Hi...i wanna list every file end at conf, and i wanna to copy to a file the results(with command find -exec)
I try this:
find -name *conf -exec /home/ubuntu/myfile
is this wrong?
I just started playing with VirtualBox to check out different versions of Linux.
I was wondering if it would be possible (and recommended) to set up a single virtual machine with multiple partitions - one for each separate version of Linux, one for swap memory, and one fully shared /home partition?
Still new to Linux, but I've read this is a good way to partition so you can share common applications between Linux installations, however I think everything I've read is pertaining to literal partitions and not virtual machines.
In trying to diagnose a failover problem with my Cisco ASA 5520 firewalls, I ran a traceroute to www.btfl.com and, much to my surprise, some of the hops came back as RFC 1918 addresses.
Just to be clear, this host is not behind my firewall and there is no VPN involved. I have to connect across the open internet to get there.
How/why is this possible?

I'm thinking about switching the systems in my home from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows. I'm not concerned so much about new OS features as I am about peoples experiences after making the switch. I do a lot of development and use a lot of OS apps and was wondering if people ar having issues.
I'm trying to figure out how to make hidden files on my Ubuntu box available through Netatalk. I can access my ubuntu home directory from OS X, but hidden files just aren't there. Basically ls -a doesn't list them.
Netatalk version is 2.0.5-3.
According to this article, I should be able to sync my Windows Mobile smartphone via my wireless internet connection. However, when I go to the connection settings, I only see USB and COM1 options. No option for ethernet. I have an HTC Maple (aka Snap), and it connects fine to my home wireless network, but I would like to be able to sync over the network.
I work in the countryside gathering requirements, so my laptop often gets a lot of dust, and I cannot dedicate too much time for cleaning it, nor opening it.
I'd like to hear what solutions do you use for cleaning it, specially the screen and keyboard. I prefer home-made solution before special products, that I cannot buy at work.
Thanks in advance.
I have an HPcompaq nc6400 but I don't have much information about batteries.when I'm home I run it on electricity so at this time should I take the battery out or it's OK if I run it on electricity with battery on?
I have a home theatre PC running with two users accounts on windows 7.
The default account logs into locally. The account 'Paul' is present but is denied local log in so the default auto logs in locally.
I am trying to remote into account Paul using RDC however it tries to log into the default account and I am presented with an an option to boot the present user off so I can log in.
How do I specify which account I want to log into?
I'm having strange problem with my putty console. I'm establishing connection over ssh to my home computer [ windows 7 + freesshd server ]. Everything works just fine, but I'm getting this tiny screen with output, I can resize it of course, but the content is still in small box [ content doesn't resize ]
I've tried to change the number of columns and rows in properties, but it didn't change anything. The same thing is with cygwin client.
I have few programs on my machine that keep on changing my home-page.
I tried found this link, but I didn't find the path in the registry.
What I wanna do is lock the homepage so it cannot be change by programs other than the internet options of the control panel.
I use IE8 on Win7x64 machine.
I guess the reg key is slightly different.
I've been constantly switching tools that keep track of my to-do list:
Online account in SimpleGTD
To-do applet in my RSS aggregator
Outlook's builtin Task List
My cellphone's built-in to-do list
Post-it notes on my monitors at home and at work
Paper list in my wallet (thought about enhancing it and adding a pen like Jeff Atwood did)
Which proved most useful for you?

(copying data via network name ex: \\PC2)
Hi,
I've recently got a free smart power electric energy monitor from my electric provider (npower, in the UK). While it is quite good i would like to pull the information from the monitor onto my home server, so i can get more detailed information and maybe graph it using mrtg or similar.
Has anyone every tinkered about with them, how do the monitor and the display talk to each other (bluetooth/wifi) and any other info people might have.
cheers
Luke

We're trying to enable the openX Market plugin on openX 2.8.9. Enabling the plugin results in an "Allowed memory exceeded" error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 201326592 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/openx/lib/pear/PEAR.php on line 868
no matter what we have our php memory_limit set to. It even exceeded 512MB.
We're running RHEL 5.6 and PEAR 1.9.4
Has anybody else come across this problem?
Every home router I've setup/used issues addresses from low to high.
However, dhcpd from the Internet Systems Consortium seems to issue addresses in reverse order - ie, high to low.
Is there a way to change this so that addresses are issued starting at the bottom of the range, and progress higher?
I'm ready to deploy and I want to get my ASP.net web service off of my home development server and out onto the internet. Who would you recommend for good, reliable Mono hosting? Doesn't have to be rock-bottom cheap, just classy and stable.
I want to check 10+ local Git repositories if they have any unpushed commit, before shutdown.
(I always forgot to push them, so later, the next morning I came office and back home again)
I think maybe the shutdown process can check some conditions to meet, if any condition is not met, then give the user the choice to continue to shutdown or just cancel.
Then, I can write something to hook the shutdown to check my Git repository to push.
I use
ssh -D 1080 myhost.org
...to open up an SSH tunnel from my work machine to my home machine, so as to bypass the idiotic content filter on the corporate firewall. However this also creates an interactive SSH session that lives the whole time I'm using the tunnel. Is there any way to tell SSH just to create the tunnel and not bother with the interactive session?
I just bought a new SSD for my laptop, which is going to be a server running ArchLinux with grub2, GPT and btrfs.
My layout should look like this:
(grub-partition?)
/boot ext2 75MB
/ btrfs 15GB
/home btrfs remaining
What do I need to do to create these partitions in a correctly aligned fashion using parted?
Do I need to consider alignment when formatting each partition with the desired file system?
A friend of mine is looking for an equivalent on Macintosh to Visio or SmarDraw to draw plans for home improvements. I don't know anything about Macintosh, so would appreciate any feedback on good softwares for this type of applications.
Hi.
I terrible with bash scripting, and need some help with the following:
#!/bin/bash
if [ -e Pretty* ];then
ncftpput -R -DD -v -u xbmc -p xbmc 192.168.1.100 /home/xbmc/TV/Pretty_Little_Liars/ Pretty*
else
echo "No new folders"
fi
find -depth -type d -empty -exec rmdir {} \;
Problem here is the ncftpput line.. if I just do a simple [ echo "working" ] instead, everything is OK, but when I try the ncftpput-line it just gives me [ line 5: [: too many arguments
]
the ncftpput command alone works fine..
Any ideas?
At work and home, I use Server 2003 with Windows Shares. We also have a couple of Netgear ReadyNAS appliances at work, managed via the web interface.
Is there a built-in Web Interface for managing Shares, or a free one available - for use in Server 2003 (or 2008)?
The reason I ask is that it would be good to manage the Shares via the Web, rather then RDP onto the Server each time - and would allow other users to treat it as a NAS.
