  • How does .NET determine the week in a TimeZoneInfo.TransitionTime ?

    Greetings I'm trying to do some DateTime math for various time zones and I wanted to take daylight savings into account. Lets say I have a TimeZoneInfo and i've determined the appropriate AdjustmentRule for a given DateTime. Lets also say the particular TimeZoneInfo i'm dealing with is specified as rule.DaylightTransitionStart.IsFixedDateRule == false, so I need to figure out if the given DateTime falls within the start/end TransitionTime.Week values. This is where I'm getting confused, what is .NET considering as a "week"? My first thought was it probably used something like DayOfWeek thisMarksWeekBoundaries = Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.DateTimeFormat.FirstDayOfWeek; and went through the calendar assigning days to week, incrementing week every time it crossed a boundary. But, if I do this for May 2010 there are 6 week boundary buckets, and the max valid value for TransitionTime.Week is 5 so this can't be right. Whats the right way to slice up May 2010?

    Hi Guys, I'm using SWFUpload and Paperclip on Rails 2.3.5 to upload images and videos. How can I store the capture date of images and duration of videos? The following works correctly in irb: irb(main):001:0> File.new('hatem.jpg').mtime => Tue Mar 09 16:56:38 +0200 2010 But when I try to use Paperclip's before_post_process: before_post_process :get_file_info def get_file_info puts File.new(self.media.to_file.path).mtime # =>Wed Apr 14 18:36:22 +0200 2010 end I get the current date instead of the capture date. How can I fix this? Also, how can I get the video duration and store it with the model? Thank you.

    Checking if a user input is a valid date or a valid "date + time" is easy: .NET provides DateTime.TryParse (and, in addition, VB.NET provides IsDate). Now, I want to check if the user entered a date including a time component. So, when using a German locale, 31.12.2010 00:00 should be OK, but 31.12.2010 shouldn't. I know I could use DateTime.TryParseExact like this: Dim formats() As String = {"d.M.yyyy H:mm:ss", "dd.M.yyyy H:mm:ss", _ "d.MM.yyyy H:mm:ss", "d.MM.yyyy H:mm:ss", _ "d.M.yyyy H:mm", ...} Dim result = DateTime.TryParseExact(userInput, formats, _ Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentCulture, ..., result) but then I would hard-code the German format of specifying dates (day dot month dot year), which is considered bad practice and will make trouble should we ever want to localize our application. In addition, formats would be quite a large list of all possible combinations (one digit, two digits, ...). Is there a more elegant solution?

  • JSON Feed Appears to be XHR when it should be JS

    I don't get why it'd doing this with the 2nd feed (appearing as a XHR call rather than just JS [looking at it in Firefox/Firebug]). The 2nd feed has the exact same MIME type as Flickr's JSON feed, yet the PortlandOregon.gov one shows as XHR and i get a NULL callback when using $.getJSON and if i use $.ajax with a 'json' or 'jsonp' type i get nothing at all. If i do the Flickr one i get the normal "[object Object]" callback. Whats going on? Please help! This has been such a headache for about a week. And i have authorization to change the feed, but i have to request the change, so if anyone knows for absolute sure let me know that!     I've developed in Java in the past, and now I'm trying to learn Grails/Groovy using this slightly dated tutorial. import grails.test.* class DateTagLibTests extends TagLibUnitTestCase { def dateTagLib protected void setUp() { super.setUp() dateTagLib = new DateTagLib() } protected void tearDown() { super.tearDown() } void testThisYear() { String expected = Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR) // NOTE: This statement fails assertEquals("the years dont match and I dont know why.", expected, dateTagLib.thisYear()) } } DateTagLibTests.groovy (Note: this TagLibUnitTestCase is for Grails 1.2.1 and not the version used in the tutorial) For some reason the above test fails with: expected:<2010 but was:<2010 I've tried replacing the test above with the following alternate version of the test, and the test passes just fine: void testThisYear() { String expected = Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR) String actual = dateTagLib.thisYear() // NOTE: The following two assertions work: assertEquals("the years don\'t match", expected, actual) assertTrue("the years don\'t match", expected.equals(actual)) } These two versions of the test are basically the same thing right? Unless there's something new in Grails 1.2.1 or Groovy that I'm not understanding. They should be of the same type because the values are both the value returned by Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR)

  • How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in a Java program?

    I am writing a piece of code in Java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the Java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the Java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. To troubleshoot this I printed out the two: System Time = 1269898069496 (converted = Mon Mar 29 2010 16:27:49 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)) Script Start = 03292010_16:27:45 Script Start in Milli = 1264804065000 (Converted = Fri Jan 29 2010 16:27:45 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time))

    I am trying to parse a date that looks like this: 2010-04-05T17:16:00Z This is a valid date per http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3339.txt. The 'Z' literal "imply that UTC is the preferred reference point for the specified time." If I try to parse it using SimpleDateFormat and this pattern: yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss It will be parsed as a Mon Apr 05 17:16:00 EDT 2010 SimpleDateFormat is unable to parse the string with these patterns: yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssz yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ I can explicitly set the TimeZone to use on the SimpleDateFormat to get the expected output, but I don't think that should be necessary. Is there something I am missing? Is there an alternative date parser?

    I used IntentService in my code instead of Service because IntentService creates a thread for me in onHandleIntent(Intent intent), so I don't have to create a Thead myself in the code of my service. I expected that two intents to the same IntentSerivce will execute in parallel because a thread is generated in IntentService for each invent. But my code turned out that the two intents executed in sequential way.   • Why Java SimpleDateFormat().parse() is printing weird formate?

    My input is String formated as the following: 3/4/2010 10:40:01 AM 3/4/2010 10:38:31 AM My code is: DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss aa"); try { Date today = dateFormat.parse(time); System.out.println("Date Time : " + today); } catch (ParseException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } the output is: Sun Jan 03 10:38:31 AST 2010 Sun Jan 03 10:40:01 AST 2010 I'm not sure from where the day (Sun) came from? or (AST)? and why the date is wrong? I just wanted to keep the same format of the original String date and make it into a Date object. I'm using Netbeans 6.8 Mac version.

    Hi, I am working on Joomla 1.5 and our site is using the Bluehost server.Till March 9th, 2010 our site was working perfectly.And on March 10th,2010 , the following error was shown in the site as Warning: Unexpected character in input: '' (ASCII=28) state=1 in /home1/tcscoinc/public_html/tcsrnd/administrator/components/com_jaclplus/jac lplus.class.php on line 73 Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home1/tcscoinc/public_html/tcsrnd/administrator/components/com_jaclplus/jac lplus.class.php on line 73 For time being, i have just renamed the file jaclplus.class.php to make the site to function. As we are using Jaclplus component and we have purchased the Jaclplus component from Byos Tech , i have checked in the membership details.And we found that our Membership has been expired on 03/10/2010 . I have asked them but they had replied that it may not be a problem on membership. Please anyone share what can be the reason for the error.I am not able to open that file(jaclplus.class.php) since its a binary file.

  • Unable to verify body hash for DKIM

    I'm writing a C# DKIM validator and have come across a problem that I cannot solve. Right now I am working on calculating the body hash, as described in Section 3.7 Computing the Message Hashes. I am working with emails that I have dumped using a modified version of EdgeTransportAsyncLogging sample in the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent SDK. Instead of converting the emails when saving, it just opens a file based on the MessageID and dumps the raw data to disk. And while I was working on it (failing to get it to work) I finally came across a message with c=simple/simple which means that you process the whole body as is minus any empty CRLF at the end of the body. (Really, the rules for Body Canonicalization are quite ... simple.) Here is the real DKIM email with a signature using the simple algorithm (with only unneeded headers cleaned up). Now, using the above code and updating the expectedBase64 hash I get the following results: Expected hash: VnGg12/s7xH3BraeN5LiiN+I2Ul/db5/jZYYgt4wEIw= Computed hash: ISNNtgnFZxmW6iuey/3Qql5u6nflKPTke4sMXWMxNUw= Are equal: False The expected hash is the value from the bh= field of the DKIM-Signature header. Now, the file used in the second test is a direct raw output from the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent. If so inclined, you can view the modified EdgeTransportLogging.txt. At this point, no matter how I modify the second email, changing the start position or number of CRLF at the end of the file I cannot get the files to match. What worries me is that I have been unable to validate any body hash so far (simple or relaxed) and that it may not be feasible to process DKIM through Exchange 2010.
