• IF Statement using dates for a budget template

  I am working on a budget and want to automatically account for increases in rent in the correct month, I would also like to account for dates tenants move in or out. I may also sometimes have a tenant in a space all year with no changes to rent. Below is an example of my budget with all three scenarios. • Can you convert an address to a zip code in a spreadsheet?

  Given a column of street addresses with city and state but no zip in a spreadsheet, I'd like to put a formula in a second column that yields the ZIP code. Do you know a way to do this? I'm dealing with US addresses, but answers pertaining to other countries are interesting, too. UPDATE: I guess I'm mostly hoping that there's a way to do this in Google Spreadsheets. I realize that you need to access a vast ZIP code database to do this, but it seems to me that such a database is already inside Google Maps. If I put an address in there without ZIP code, I get back an address with ZIP code. If Maps can do that lookup, maybe there's a way to make it happen in Spreadsheets, too.

  In A column I have a set of numbers (over 1 000). I want to get average of ten of them (a1:a10) and wrtite into next column (B). Now I want to get next ten numbers and get average of them (a11:a20). And so on... How to get this if in C1 i would have number which is range (i.e 10 = a1:a10/a11:a20 ; i.e 25 a1:a25/a26:a50) of the cells? When I change C1 value I want to column B to update automaticaly? Is this possible?

• How to change row color based on a single cell's value?

  I have a spreadsheet where I have cell within a row that will contain specific text via data validation. So for instance a cell could contain the text "Due in 7 Days", "Past Due", or "Closed". I want the row color to change depending on the text that appears in the cell. So if the text "Past Due" appears in the cell I want that entire row to turn red, if "Due In 7 Days" appears the row should turn yellow, and if "Closed" the row would turn gray. How can I do that?

• Collapsing rows of duplicate dates in a column leaving one row with a subtotal?

  I have several thousand rows of date, time, and values in columns. Each row is contains a date, time for that date, and a value for that time period (hour) So each 24 rows has the same date with each having the next hour of the day. I'd like to collapse or group the 24 rows leaving the last row with a subtotal of the value (column D) to the right in column F. While this can obviously be done manually, several years of data would take a while and there ought to be a way to do this other wise?

  I have problem I'm hoping someone could help me with. I have five different text values in 5 cells. I am trying to combine these values into one cell with a comma in between each. However the trick is that if there is no value in (H6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell (F6) and (G6). If there is a value in (H6) then place the word "and" between (G6) and (H6). In the same statement I must also include If there is not value in (G6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell E6 and F6. Please see image attached. I am trying to get the highlighted statements into one cell. So multiple IF statements into one cell. • Getting a null reference exception exporting a slightly complex rdlc report to excel

  Have an issue in exporting a slightly complex report to excel from an rdlc. Exporting a simple tabular report works fine, but getting a null reference exception with a more complex one. As is usually the case, it works on the server in the development environment, but not in the test environment. The server in the development environment has iis, sql and sql reporting services on it and test only has iis (I didn't set them up). I'm guessing there is something that gets installed with SSRS that is not installed with just the report viewer. The report has several parameters going into it and a few generic lists going in for datasources. Some tables for display as well as a list. Working with the 2005 version. • Windows App. Thread Aborting Issue

  I'm working on an application that has to make specific decisions based on files that are placed into a folder being watched by a file watcher. Part of this decision making process involves renaming files before moving them off to another folder to be processed. Since I'm working with files of all different sizes I created an object that checks the file in a seperate thread to verify that it is "available" and when it is it fires an event. When I run the rename code from inside this available event it works. public void RenameFile_Test() { string psFilePath = @"C:\File1.xlsx"; tgt_File target = new FileObject(psFilePath); target.FileAvailable += new FileEventHandler(OnFileAvailable); target.FileUnAvailable += new FileEventHandler(OnFileUnavailable); } private void OnFileAvailable(object source, FileEventArgs e) { ((FileObject)source).RenameFile(@"C:\File2.xlsx"); } The problem I'm running into is that when the extensions are different from the source file and the rename to file I am making a call to a conversion factory that returns a factory object based on the type of conversion and then converts the file accordingly before doing the rename. When I run that particular piece of code in unit test it works, the factory object is returned, and the conversion happens correctly. But when I run it within the process I get up to the... moExcelApp = new Application(); part of converting an .xls or .xlsx to a .csv and i get a "Thread was being Aborted" error. Any thoughts? Update: There is a bit more information and a bit of map of how the application works currently. Client Application running FSW On File Created event Creates a FileObject passing in the path of the file. On construction the file is validated: if file exists is true then, Thread toAvailableCheck = new Thread(new ThreadStart(AvailableCheck)); toAvailableCheck.Start(); The AvailableCheck Method repeatedly tries to open a streamreader to the file until the reader is either created or the number of attempts times out. If the reader is opened, it fires the FileAvailable event, if not it fires the FileUnAvailable event, passing back itself in the event. The client application is wired to catch those events from inside the Oncreated event of the FSW. the OnFileAvailable method then calls the rename functionality which contains the excel interop call. If the file is being renamed (not converted, extensions stay the same) it does a move to change the name from the old file name to the new, and if its a conversion it runs a conversion factory object which returns the correct type of conversion based on the extensions of the source file and the destination file name. If it is a simple rename it works w/o a problem. If its a conversion (which is the XLS to CSV object that is returned as a part of the factory) the very first thing it does is create a new application object. That is where the application bombs. When i test the factory and conversion/rename process outside of the thread and in its own unit test the process works w/o a problem. Update: I tested the Excel Interop inside a thread by doing this: [TestMethod()] public void ExcelInteropTest() { Thread toExcelInteropThreadTest = new Thread(new ThreadStart(Instantiate_App)); toExcelInteropThreadTest.Start(); } private void Instantiate_App() { Application moExcelApp = new Application(); moExcelApp.Quit(); } And on the line where the application is instatntiated I got the 'A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' error. So I added; toExcelInteropThreadTest.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.MTA); after the thread instantiation and before the thread start call and still got the same error. I'm getting the notion that I'm going to have to reconsider the design.

• Pivot table from multiple spreadsheets

  I am using excel 2010. I am trying to create pivot table between two worksheets 'Summary' and 'Summary2'. I have identical row of data ranging from cells B5 to F5 in row 5 in both worksheets. Data in the two worksheets looks like this: Summary worksheet: Issues,20,3,4,5 Summary2 worksheet: Issues,10,0,3,9 Worksheet referes to issues from location 1 and worksheet referes to issues from location 2. Col B has title 'issues', Col C refers to issues of customer 1, Col D refers to issues of customer 2, Col E refers to issues of customer 3, Col F refers to issues of customer 4 I go to a third worksheet and start pivot table and in the table range I give this: 'Summary:Summary2'!$B$5:$F$5. Then I Say OK. Gives error "data reference source is not valid". Can someone tell me how to select the row from two different worksheet in pivot table? Also I want to be able to add issues of customers between two locations and get % completion for each locaiton. Can someone please help?

I am passing in the numbers 10 and 1 as arguments, and getting an overflow error when the program reaches the top of the For loop, before it begins the first iteration. Any thoughts are appreciated.   I need to read and write data from an Excel spreadsheet. Is there a method to finding out how many rows/columns a certain worksheet has using ExcelPackage? I have the following code: FileInfo newFile = new FileInfo(@"C:\example.xlsx"); using (ExcelPackage xlPackage = new ExcelPackage(newFile)) { ExcelWorksheet worksheet = xlPackage.Workbook.Worksheets[1]; } I need to iterate through each cell this worksheet has and spit it into a fairly big table, but I don't want to print out blank cells or get an exception. Is there a method resembling worksheet.rowNum or colNum?
