• Why do you have to mark a class with the attribute [serializable] ?

  Seeing as you can convert any document to a byte array and save it to disk, and then rebuild the file to its original form (as long as you have meta data for its filename etc.). Why do you have to mark a class with [Serializable] etc? Is that just the same idea, "meta data" type information so when you cast the object to its class things are mapped properly?

If I've got a package of graphics code for my company, lets call it com.example.graphics, should I include my tests in that package too or should they be included in a seperate package, like com.example.graphics.test?   I've found plenty of tutorials / questions on Stackoverflow that deal with copying char arrays from C/JNI side into something like a byte[] in Java, but not the other way around. I am using a native C library which expects a byte array. I simply want to get data from a byte[] in java, into preferably an unsigned char[] in C. Long story short: What is the best way of copying data from a jBytearray in JNI? Is there any way to detect it's size?

  Is there a way to set the cursor at the end in a TEXTAREA tag? I'm using Firefox 3.6 and I don't need it to work in IE or Chrome. JavaScript is ok but it seems all the related answers in here use onfocus() event, which seems to be useless because when user clicks on anywhere within textarea, Firefox sets cursor position to there. I have a long text to display in a textarea so that it displays the last portion (making it easier to add something at the end).

• Is there a way to prevent an ASP.Net webapp from clearing out page variables on VB side?

  I have a webapp in ASP.Net with a VB codebehind. I need a List variable I have declared to persist as long as the person is on the page, but currently any time a control posts back to the code, everything is cleared out. I am completely new to ASP.net, so I have no idea if this is even possible. Can it be done with a Session variable? Those seem to me to be limited to base types, but I could be wrong.

  How can I get the file size of a file in C when the file size is greater than 4gb? ftell returns a 4 byte signed long, limiting it to two bytes. stat has a variable of type off_t which is also 4 bytes (not sure of sign), so at most it can tell me the size of a 4gb file. What if the file is larger than 4 gb?

(dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations?
