• Latitude & longitude coordinates of Australian states/territories for database using Google Maps

  Hi, We have a database which has location-based search using Google Maps API. However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time. • Random numbers from binomial distribution

  I need to generate quickly lots of random numbers from binomial distributions for dramatically different trial sizes (most, however, will be small). I was hoping not to have to code an algorithm by hand (see, e.g., this related discussion from November), because I'm a novice programmer and don't like reinventing wheels. It appears Boost does not supply a generator for binomially distributed variates, but TR1 and GSL do. Is there a good reason to choose one over the other, or is it better that I write something customized to my situation? I don't know if this makes sense, but I'll alternate between generating numbers from uniform distributions and binomial distributions throughout the program, and I'd like for them to share the same seed and to minimize overhead. I'd love some advice or examples for what I should be considering.

• Enjoy bug fixing more than coding from scratch

  As I get more and more into my job I've had a lot of opportunity to code new projects from scratch. Almost every programmer I know really appreciates that opportunity. But the further I go into it, the more I enjoy bug fixing. In fact, if I can spend a whole day looking over code, whether it be mine or someone else's code, and find some obscure bug, I feel much more accomplished than when I create code. Does anyone else feel this way, and are there any job advantages to this?

  I have a class that contains some data: class DATA Now I would to create some functions that uses those data. I can do it easily by writing member functions like DATA::usedata(); Since there are hundreds of functions, I would to keep an order in my code, so I would like to have some "categories" (not sure of the correct name) like: DATA data; data.memory.free(); data.memory.allocate(); data.file.import(); data.whatever.foo(); where memory, file and whatever are the "categories" and free, allocate and foo are the functions. I tried the inheritance way, but I got lost since I can not declare inside DATA a memory or file object, error C2079 occurs: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/9ekhdcxs%28VS.80%29.aspx Since I am not a programmer please don't be too complicated and if you have an easier way I am all ears.

  I work in a call centre and have been told by my manager that when there are no calls coming through they're happy for me to read stuff on the internet. There is a net filter in place but I can access SO from work which is always handy. I'm searching for articles that will make me a generally better programmer. I code in Python but combine it with Postgres and JS quite a lot if that helps. • Are there any good materials or examples on creating a custom Designer in the Delphi IDE

  I am working on creating a custom form designer in the Delphi IDE. I'm trying to use the RegisterCustomModule, TBaseCustomModule, and ICustomModule functions, classes, and interfaces. My first question on this pointed me to the Delphi Developer's Handbook and the idea that I could even create a custom form designer. However, that book seems to be all Delphi 3 information and things have really changed since then. I'm not finding any material in the Delphi Help file, and searches have not returned very much. I did find the Accidental Programmer's page on the Open Tools, but that looks like it was last up dated in 1998? It does at least have the correct unit names and uses the new interfaces. I'm willing to track down and buy an older book if that is the best reference.

  Suppose, a blog or a nice article was hosted on a website and it got deleted or worse the website was brought down. How do you view that web page? I tried searching for the cached version in Google. But, looks like the content was deleted long ago and is not listed in the search results directly. There are annotations to the link from many other sites, but still the actual content is not fully available. Now, can anybody help me see this page... • Three boolean values saved in one tinyint

  Hello, probably a simple question but I seem to be suffering from programmer's block. :) I have three boolean values: A, B, and C. I would like to save the state combination as an unsigned tinyint (max 255) into a database and be able to derive the states from the saved integer. Even though there are only a limited number of combinations, I would like to avoid hard-coding each state combination to a specific value (something like if A=true and B=true has the value 1). I tried to assign values to the variables so (A=1, B=2, C=3) and then adding, but I can't differentiate between A and B being true from i.e. only C being true. I am stumped but pretty sure that it is possible. Thanks
