• Newbie python error in regards to import

  Hello. I'm a python newbie and starting out with using the Bottle web framework on Google App Engine. I've been messing with the super small, super easy Hello World sample and have already ran into problems. Heh. I finally got the code to work with this... import bottle from bottle import route from google.appengine.ext.webapp import util @route('/hello') def hello(): return "Hello World!" util.run_wsgi_app(bottle.default_app()) My question is, I thought I could just go 'import bottle' without the second line. But if I take the second line out, I get a NameError. Or if I do 'from bottle import *', I still get the error. bottle is just a single file called 'bottle.py' in my site's root directory. • SQL CE: Limiting rows returned in the query

  In SQL Compact Edition 3.5 , note that it is the Compact Edition I am talking about- Is there a way to limit the amount of rows to only 2? Something like using LIMIT or TOP. I really don't want to use anything with a SqlCEDataReader, or SqlCEResultSet. I want to do all the limiting in the query. Is this possible now? I have looked around and it doesn't seem so. EDIT- In response to Dave Swersky's request for data and using Min()/Max() on some columns as a means to get the top 2 lines, here is some sample (sterilized) data: Line Site Function Status 1010 Las Vegas new 4 1020 DC send 1 1030 Portland copy 1 1040 SF copy 1 1050 Portland copy 1 1060 DC send 1 *There are more columns than this but these are the significant ones. Sorry for the lack of intuitive data (but the actual data is even less intuitive!), but for security i need to change the data. So- i need to determine: what site the record was at in the preceding line to determine where it needs to be picked up. The site on any given line (except the first line with function = 'new') corresponds to where the item is going next. So simply grabbing that site off the same line wont tell me where it came from. The status will always be 1 or 4. The 4 corresponds to a where it has been delivered already and so i dont want to include those records in the result. But it might be useful in getting the pickup site. For this table of data i want the query to return the site corresponding to the line just above the first line with status 1. So- for this it would be Las Vegas.

• CSS background image being downloaded more than once

  I noticed in my current project that Firefox (3.5.4) downloads the background image (set in CSS) for my divs more than once. I've checked with both firebug and wireshark and it really does appear that it does not wait for the first request to finish and then simply use the cached version. Wireshark also confirms that Chrome and IE8 do as expected and only request the image once. Any ideas what might be causing this? There is an explicit block to handle anything strange inets might return [Response]. Despite this, I still get what look like inets error reports dumped to the console [sample below]. What am I doing wrong here ? Do I need to configure some kind of inets error handler elsewhere ?   How do I get the Silverlight Add-On for Visual Studio 2010? And where can I find lots of example code? When the interent and html was new, one could find examples of how to build a website on a few trusted web sites. The same web sites might not be the best choice for looking for examples for Silverlight, I guess. What are the best web sites where you can look at examples -- and most importantly -- look at the source code of some examples of Silverlight? Back when MFC existed as a option that programmers might use to develop windows applications, a coder could look at a huge list of sample code and step through that code to find something that somewhat did what he was looking for and use that example code to build his own app. Is there anything like that for Silverlight? I have found the http://gallery.expression.microsoft.com/ Expression Blend Gallery and I have found the http://www.silverlight.net/community/samples/silverlight-samples/ Silverlight dot net community samples. I guess that will keep me busy for a while. Are there other sites? There are video instructions on MSDN's Channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/tags/curso-silverlight-4/ Are there any videos in English?   I have been looking everywhere how to play a $#@&! rington/alarm sound in android. I press a button and I want to play a rington/alarm sound. I could not find a easy, strsight forward sample... YES! I already looked at Alarm clock source code... but it is not straight forward and I cannot compile it neither. • Authentication problem with Wufoo

  I set up a Wufoo form with admin only portions that will only show up if I am logged in. I read through the Wufoo API documentation and I can get the authenication to work, but when I try to access the form after I authenticate, it says I need to authenticate. And one last bonus question... can I do all of this using Ajax instead? - the page I will be displaying the form on will already be limited to admin access, so exposing the API shouldn't matter.

  I'm struggling with regex for splitting logs files into log sequence in order to match pattern inside these sequences. log format is: timestamp fieldA fieldB fieldn log message1 timestamp fieldA fieldB fieldn log message2 log message2bis timestamp fieldA fieldB fieldn log message3 The timestamp regex is known. I want to extract every log sequence (potentialy multiline) between timestamps. And I want to keep the timestamp. I want in the same time to keep the exact count of lines. What I need is how to decorate timestamp pattern to make it split my log file in log sequence. • C# WPF XAML Problem with icon in GridViewColumn

  I've created a ListView with a GridView component in it. Now trying to fill one of the cells with an icon (PNG) like in the code sample below (save_icon.png): <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Header="Date" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Date}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Time" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Time}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="FriendlyName" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding FriendlyName}" /> <GridViewColumn Width="Auto"> <Image Source="save_icon.png" /> </GridViewColumn> </GridView> </ListView.View> Visual Studio gives me an error on the line, where i put the icon into the column (ERROR: "Error 35: The file save_icon.png is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'.") I added the icon to the project as a resource and when i start the app, everything works (the icon appears at the right place). But the WPF designer window can't be reloaded and i'm not able to see changes in the designer, when i change the XAML code. Can somebody explain this error or am i doing something wrong?   In my application there are two folders one for a rails application and another for a ruby application. In the ruby folder I have created a ruby file in which I have written code to access some model which is present in the rails application using active resource. • Debugging Maya plug-ins: can't get output or debugger to engage

  I'm not a total beginner at Maya, but this is my first time trying to write a plug-in for it. I've downloaded the 30-day eval version of Maya2011 (32bit version on 64bit Windows 7), and have tried building a couple of plug-ins with VC 2008 Express. The first one is helloWorldCmd from the sample directory ..\devkit\plug-ins, and it basically doesn't work until you convert the line cout<<"Hello World"<<endl; to cerr<<"Hello World"<<endl;, but I can live with that. The second one is the SelectRingContext2 example from David Gould's book. The plug-in works as advertised, but I cannot get any debugging output from it. I've tried putting cout, cerr,printf, and MGlobal::displayInfo into the doIt() method, and can't get a peep. I also haven't figured out how to run the plug-in in a debugger. I'm afraid I'm missing something easy but slightly obscure, like a flag somewhere. Anybody out there have any hints? Edit: Turns out the action is happening in the redoIt() method. So I can get MGlobal::displayInfo and cerr producing output. Still don't know why cout and printf don't work, and I'm not sure how to run in the debugger. When I run maya -d (which some of the online advice says I should do) it just shows the output window but never loads the rest.

• How to create a rails habtm that deletes/destroys without error?

  I created a simple example as a sanity check and still can not seem to destroy an item on either side of a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship in rails. Whenever I try to delete an object from either table, I get the dreaded NameError / "uninitialized constant" error message. To demonstrate, I created a sample rails app with a Boy class and Dog class. I used the basic scaffold for each and created a linking table called boys_dogs. I want all three property values to remain synchronized, i.e. that whenever the int value changes in an object, this value is propagated to the two other objects. I think of multibinding to do the job, but I don't know how to detect which object changed, thus which value should be used and propagated to the other objects. I understand I could solve the problem by creating an X_Changed event in the 3 types and then have each object registering to the two other objects event. I don't like this "manual" way and would prefer to bind the 3 properties together.

  I've read that unmanaged resource are considered file handles, streams, anything low level. Does MSDN or any other source explain how to recognize an unmanaged resource? I can't seem to find any examples on the net that show unmanaged code, all the examples just have comments that say unmanaged code here. Can someone perhaps provide a realworld example where I would handle an unmanaged resources in an IDispose interface? I provided the IDisposable interface for your convience. • Flush separate Castle ActiveRecord Transaction, and refresh object in another Transaction

  I've got all of my ASP.NET requests wrapped in a Session and a Transaction that gets commited only at the very end of the request. At some point during execution of the request, I would like to insert an object and make it visible to other potential threads - i.e. split the insertion into a new transaction, commit that transaction, and move on. The reason is that the request in question hits an API that then chain hits another one of my pages (near-synchronously) to let me know that it processed, and thus double submits a transaction record, because the original request had not yet finished, and thus not committed the transaction record. So I've tried wrapping the insertion code with a new SessionScope, TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New), combination of both, flushing everything manually, etc. However, when I call Refresh on the object I'm still getting the old object state. Here's some code sample for what I'm seeing: Post outsidePost = Post.Find(id); // status of this post is Status.Old using (TransactionScope transaction = new TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New)) { Post p = Post.Find(id); p.Status = Status.New; // new status set here p.Update(); SessionScope.Current.Flush(); transaction.Flush(); transaction.VoteCommit(); } outsidePost.Refresh(); // refresh doesn't get the new status, status is still Status.Old Any suggestions, ideas, and comments are appreciated!

  I have a table references to itself. User table: id, username, managerid and managerid links back to id Now, I want to get all the managers including direct manager, manager of direct manager, so on and so forth... The problem is that I do not want to have a unstop recursive sql. So, I want to check if an id alreay in a list, I will not include it anymore. I do not know how to declare it inside a common table expression like this one. Usually, in db2, I can just put varchar(40) My sample data: ID UserName ManagerID 1 admin 1 2 a 1 3 b 1 4 c 2 What I want to do is that I want to find all managers of c guy. The result should be: admin, a, b. Some of the user can be his manager (like admin) because the ManagerID does not allow NULL and some does not have direct manager. With common table expression, it can lead to an infinite recursive. So, I am also trying to avoid that situation by trying to not include the id twice. For example, in the 1st iteration, we already have id : 1, so, in the 2nd iteration and later on, 1 should never be allowed. I also want to ask if my current approach is good or not and any other solutions? Because if I have a big database with a deep hierarchy, I will have to initialize a big varchar to keep it and it consumes memory, right?

  Hi, I need to send emails asychronously through a console application. I need to do some DB updates on the callback but my application is exiting before the callback code gets run! How can I stop this from happening in a nice manner rather than simply guessing how long to wait before exiting. I would imagine the Async calls get placed in some form of thread? Is it possible to check if any are waiting to be called? • In a digital photo, how can I detect if a mountain is obscured by clouds?

  The problem I have a collection of digital photos of a mountain in Japan. However the mountain is often obscured by clouds or fog. What techniques can I use to detect that the mountain is visible in the image? I am currently using Perl with the Imager module, but open to alternatives. All the images are taken from the exact same position - these are some samples. My naïve solution I started by taking several horizontal pixel samples of the mountain cone and comparing the brightness values to other samples from the sky. This worked well for differentiating good image 1 and bad image 2. However in the autumn it snowed and the mountain became brighter than the sky, like image 3, and my simple brightness test started to fail. Image 4 is an example of an edge case. I would classify this as a good image since some of the mountain is clearly visible. UPDATE 1 Thank you for the suggestions - I am happy you all vastly over-estimated my competence. Based on the answers, I have started trying the ImageMagick edge-detect transform, which gives me a much simpler image to analyze. convert sample.jpg -edge 1 edge.jpg I assume I should use some kind of masking to get rid of the trees and most of the clouds. Once I have the masked image, what is the best way to compare the similarity to a 'good' image? I guess the "compare" command suited for this job? How do I get a numeric 'similarity' value from this?

  Okay I'm kindoff new to the .NET platform. And currently i'm learning ASP MVC. Do i need to install a virtual smtp server or something?.
