  • Special characters in PHP / MySQL

    Hi, I have in the database words that include special character (in Spanish mostly, like tildes). In the database everything is saved and shown correctly with PHPmyAdmin, but when I get the data (using PHP) and display it in a browser, I get a weird character, like a "?" with a square... I need a general fix so I don't need to escape each character every time, and also I would be able to insert special Spanish characters from a PHP form into the database... The HTML is correct: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> All tables and databas are set to utf8_spanish The character I get: ? Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

  • Two-way databinding of a custom templated asp.net control

    I hate long code snippets and I'm sorry about this one, but it turns out that this asp.net stuff can't get much shorter and it's so specific that I haven't been able to generalize it without a full code listing. I just want simple two-way, declarative, edit-only databinding to a single instance of an object. Not a list of objects of a type with a bunch of NotImplementedExceptions for Add, Delete, and Select, but just a single view-state persisted object. This is certainly something that can be done but I've struggled with an implementation for years. This newest, closest implementation was inspired by this article from 4-Guys-From-Rolla. Unfortunately, after implementing, I'm getting the following error and I don't know what I'm missing: System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. If I don't use Bind(), and only use Eval() functionality, it works. In that way, the error is especially confusing. Update: Actually, using Eval() does NOT work, but using <%# Container.SampleString %> works. However, Eval("SampleString") gives the same error. That leads me back to this article I found earlier but had discarded. Now I believe it might be related, though I haven't cracked it yet ...   • CSS3 gradient background set on body doesn't stretch but instead repeats?

    ok say the content inside the <body> totals 300px high. If I set the background of my <body> using -webkit-gradient or -moz-linear-gradient Then I maximize my window (or just make it taller than 300px) the gradient will be exactly 300px tall (the height of the content) and just repeat to fill the rest of the window. I am assuming this is not a bug since it is the same in both webkit and gecko. But is there a way to make the gradient stretch to fill the window instead of repeat?

If I specify Cache-Control "max-age=3600, must-revalidate" for a static html/js/images/css file, with Last Modified Header defined in HTTP header, a. Does browser/proxy cache(liek Squid/Akamai) go all the way to orgin server to validate before max-age expires? Or will it serve content from cache till max-age expires? b. After max-age expiry(that is expiry from cache), is there a IMS check or is content re-downloaded from origin server w/o IMS check?

    I am re-using Apple's AdvancedTableViewCells example to create a custom, fast-scrolling tableview. Specifically, I am using their CompositeSubviewBasedApplicationCell method which draws the content on the tableviewcell with drawRect Everything works, but how do you hide a label or set the tag for a label or image using their method? Doing it this way is pretty new to me (without IB), so I apologize ahead of time if it's something easy. However for some reason it's not working. Firefox error console outputs unkown pseudo-class or pseudo-element "visible" everytime I try to use it.   • CodeIgniter Project Giving 303/Compression Error

    Trying to setup a CodeIgniter based project for local development (LAMP stack), and once all the config file were updated (meaning I successfully had meaningful bootstrap errors for CodeIgniter), I get this error in my browsers: Chrome Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error. Firefox Content Encoding Error: The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression. Just using wget to fetch the file works fine, no errors and I get the content I'm expecting. Not sure if this is something with CI and the Server, or just something weird with the project. Has anyone seen this before?

    I have a situation where loop through a sorted nodeset and apply a template on each of the nodes: <div id="contractscontainer"> <xsl:for-each select="document"> <xsl:sort select="content[@name='ClientName']/text()" /> <xsl:apply-templates select="." mode="client-contract" /> </xsl:for-each> </div> I want to do something special with the "first" 5 nodes in the node set and render them nested element. The problem is that they need to be in the same order as if they were sorted (as they are in the loop). I had planned on doing this by using two xsl:for-each elements, each with the correct nodes selected from the set. I can't do this, however, because they need to be sorted before I can select the "first" 5. Am I approaching this incorrectly?

  • IE6 not rendering the page

    I have a web page which consists of a few component pages. When a user requests the page, the server assembles its component pages into the main page and sends it back to the browser. When there is an update on the component page, IE6 browser cannot see the updated content. However, IE7 and Firefox are fine. Checking with Fiddler, the http response returns 200, If-Modified-Since header is the same as the last modified date of the main page, the response raw html also has the updated content. It seems that IE6 browser abandons the rendering of the page because If-Modified-Since is the same as the last modified date of the main page. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue in IE6?

  • Dynamically pulling images from XML for iPhone App

    I've got my iPhone app pulling down live data content via XML nicely, and I've formatted the UITableView cells to display the content without too many headaches. However, at the moment, for each cell I'm just showing a default graphic for now, but I want this to be pulled down from my server too. The code snippet that grabs the image (which is actually in my project) is: cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"TBC.png"]; But that will need to be the dynamic image. In my XML, am I better just returning 'mypic.png' and let the SDK determine the full path, like http://myapp.com/mypic.png or storing the full URL to the image in the XML?

  • XPath and special characters

    I am having an issue with an XPath query I'm performing for a Sitecore CMS system. This query works fine: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/* But when I try this: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/*[@SomeAttribute='somekey'] I get an error which says "End of string expected at position 22" which is where the dash character is found. I was under the impression that the dash was not a special character in XML... am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to encode this in some way? Or is this a bug in the XPath parser? Any suggested workarounds?

  • Is there a way to rewrite a url to go to a file stored in the filefield of the node

    I have a custom content-type called 'document' On this content-type, I have a File field where a user can upload a document. Assume the path to a document node is /somesite/document/tester I would like to be able to link to /somesite/document/tester/file and it automatically go to the file that is uploaded to the file field of the node. I have tried the url_alter module and am able to get the correct url of the document but when it tries to go there, it says not found. It seems that my redirection is still trying to be rewritten with pathauto or something. Ulitamtely, we want to have a consistent url for these documents so that a user can upload a replacement document and we can still use the same urls. Any ideas?

  • Firefox add-on tab-specific buttons and scripts, similar to Page Actions in Google Chrome

    I want to write a Firefox extension that acts exactly like the built-in RSS feed scanner (as an exercise). It should do the following: On each new page / tab load, it should scan the content of the page for RSS feeds If there are RSS feeds in the page, it should put a button in the location bar that the user can click On clicking the button, a speech bubble should appear under the button (the way a speech bubble appears under the bookmarks star when you click on it), with information on the feeds and buttons to subscribe to them So my main questions are: What is the process to run specific content scripts for specific pages? What is the process to use the results of those scripts to update the speech bubble for each location bar button for each tab? Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to do in Firefox what Page Actions are in Google Chrome. Please help! :)
