  • Release objects before returning a value based on those object?

    - by Moshe
    Consider the following method, where I build a string and return it. I would like to release the building blocks of the sting, but then the string is based on values that no longer exists. Now what? Am I leaking memory and if so, how can I correct it? - (NSString) getMiddahInEnglish:(int)day{ NSArray *middah = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"Chesed", @"Gevurah", @"Tiferes", @"Netzach", @"Hod", @"Yesod", @"Malchus"]; NSString *firstPartOfMiddah = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@", [middah objectAtIndex: ((int)day% 7)-1]]; NSString *secondPartOfMiddah = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@", [middah objectAtIndex: ((int)day / 7)]]; NSString *middahStr = [NSString string@"%@ She'bi@%", firstPartOfMiddah, secondPartOfMiddah]; [middah release]; [firstPartOfMiddah release]; [secondPartOfMiddah release]; return middahStr; }

  • Why does this PHP script interfere with my CSS layout?

    - by CT
    This page uses $_GET to grab an asset id and query a mysql database and return some information. If 'id' does not match anything, no results are displayed but the page looks fine. If 'id' is null an error would occur at $id = $_GET["id"] or die(mysql_error()); When this occurs, they page layout is not displayed correctly. How do I fix this? Bonus question: How would I get a message like "No matching results found" or something when the id does not match any id in the database or is null. Thank you. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; • Change color of a table cell using javascript using dropdown menu

    - by Mike Burzycki
    I'd like to use some javascript code to change the background color of a single cell within a table. I have some code below which allows me to change the page background color. This is similar in concept to what I would like to do, but I would really like to be able to change just one cell...not the whole page. I have thought about making the rest of the cell borders and background colors white, leaving the cell I want to manipulate transparent, but I think this probably a brute force method that will cause me trouble down the road. Does anyone have any advice to do this with javascript? The page background color changing code is here: <form name="bgcolorForm">Try it now: <select onChange="if(this.selectedIndex!=0) document.bgColor=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value"> <option value="choose">set background color <option value="FFFFCC">light yellow <option value="CCFFFF">light blue <option value="CCFFCC">light green <option value="CCCCCC">gray <option value="FFFFFF">white </select></form> Thanks for the help, Mike

  • How can I line up columns with Perl's printf when the value might be a number or a string?

    - by user317203
    I am trying to output a document that looks like this (more at http://pastebin.com/dpBAY8Sb): 10.1.1.1 100 <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> 72.12.148.186 94 Canada Hamilton ON 43.250000 -79.833300 0.00 72.68.209.149 24 United States Richmond Hill NY 40.700500 -73.834500 611.32 72.192.33.34 4 United States Rocky Hill CT 41.657800 -72.662700 657.48 I cannot find how to format the output I have to have a floating poing and format the distance between columns. My current code looks something like this. if (defined $longitude){ printf FILE ("%-8s %.6f","",$longitude); }else{ $longitude = "<unknown>"; printf FILE ("%-20s ",$longitude); } The extra "" throws off the whole column and it looks like this (more at http://pastebin.com/kcwHyNwb). 10.1.1.1 100 <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> 72.12.148.186 94 Canada Hamilton ON 43.250000 -79.833300 0.00 72.68.209.149 24 United States Richmond Hill NY 40.700500 -73.834500 571.06

  • how do i see if a big JSON object contains a value?

    - by Haroldo
    I'm using PHP to json encode a massive multi-dimensional array of events, so i get something like this: var ents = {"7":{"event_id":"7","nn":"The Whisky Drifters","nn_url":"the-whisky-drifters","venue":"The Grain Barge","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"1","sd":"A New Acoustic String Band...","ven_id":"44","art":0},"15":{"event_id":"15","nn":"Bass Kitchen","nn_url":"bass-kitchen","venue":"Timbuk2","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"2","sd":"Hexadecimal \/ DJ Derek \/ Id","ven_id":"21","art":1}, the first dimension is the id, see var ents = {"7":{ So its possible to get the ids without examining the nested objects... What's the fastest, most efficent way to check if my JSON contains an id?

  • Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

    - by Brann
    I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

  • How can I set a field to null in a Pre-Update Plugin

    - by Juergen
    I developed a Pre-Update Plugin for the Case entity. In this plugin I want to set a string field to a new value. It works smoothly if the new value is not null. But if the new value si null, it is just ignored. This works: Incident caseTarget = ((Entity) localContext.PluginExecutionContext.InputParameters["Target"]).ToEntity<Incident>(); caseTarget.ProductSerialNumber = "new value"; After the execution of the plugin, the ProductSerialNumber field has value "new value". This doesn't work: Incident caseTarget = ((Entity) localContext.PluginExecutionContext.InputParameters["Target"]).ToEntity<Incident>(); caseTarget.ProductSerialNumber = null; After the execution of the plugin, the ProductSerialNumber field has still its old value. How can I set the target's field to null?

  • How does the method overload resolution system decide which method to call when a null value is passed?

    - by Joan Venge
    So for instance you have a type like: public class EffectOptions { public EffectOptions ( params object [ ] options ) {} public EffectOptions ( IEnumerable<object> options ) {} public EffectOptions ( string name ) {} public EffectOptions ( object owner ) {} public EffectOptions ( int count ) {} public EffectOptions ( Point point ) {} } Here I just give the example using constructors but the result will be the same if they were non-constructor methods on the type itself, right? So when you do: EffectOptions options = new EffectOptions (null); which constructor would be called, and why? I could test this myself but I want to understand how the overload resolution system works (not sure if that's what it's called).

  • How to get Combobox.SelectedItem Return string value of what is selected instead of Service Reference Class?

    I currently have the following code for a button. The message box shows SilverlightApplication2.ServiceReference2.Employee instead of the text string selected by the user. The combobox items are being populated by a WCF service. As a result I am unable to pass it to the Async call. How do I get the string of what user selected? private void btnAdd_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { object selectedItem = comobo1.SelectedItem.ToString(); MessageBox.Show(selectedItem.ToString()); var proxy = new Service1Client(); proxy.GetAllEmployeesCompleted += proxy_GetAllEmployeesCompleted; proxy.GetAllEmployeesAsync(selectedItem.ToString()); }

  • In Delphi 7, why can I assign a value to a const?

    - by Blorgbeard
    I copied some Delphi code from one project to another, and found that it doesn't compile in the new project, though it did in the old one. The code looks something like this: procedure TForm1.CalculateGP(..) const Price : money = 0; begin ... Price := 1.0; ... end; So in the new project, Delphi complains that "left side cannot be assigned to" - understandable! But this code compiles in the old project. So my question is, why? Is there a compiler switch to allow consts to be reassigned? How does that even work? I thought consts were replaced by their values at compile time?

  • SQL Is it possible to setup a column that will contain a value dependent on another column?

    - by Wesley
    I have a table (A) that lists all bundles created off a machine in a day. It lists the date created and the weight of the bundle. I have an ID column, a date column, and a weight column. I also have a table (B) that holds the details related to that machine for the day. In that table (B), I want a column that lists a sum of weights from the other table (A) that the dates match on. So if the machine runs 30 bundles in a day, I'll have 30 rows in table (A) all dated the same day. In table (B) I'll have 1 row detailing other information about the machine for the day plus the column that holds the total bundle weight created for the day. Is there a way to make the total column in table (B) automatically adjust itself whenever a row is added to table (A)? Is this possible to do in the table schema itself rather than in an SQL statement each time a bundle is added? If it's not, what sort of SQL statement do I need? Wes

  • PHP / MYSQL: Sanitizing user input - is this a bad idea?

    - by Greg
    I have one "go" script that fetches any other script requested and this is what I wrote to sanitize user input: foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value){ if (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string(stripslashes($value)); else $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string($value); } I haven't seen anyone else use this approach. Is there any reason not to? EDIT - amended for to work for arrays: function mysql_escape($thing) { if (is_array($thing)) { $escaped = array(); foreach ($thing as $key => $value) { $escaped[$key] = mysql_escape($value); } return $escaped; } // else if (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $thing = stripslashes($thing); return mysql_real_escape_string($thing); } foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value){ $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_escape($value); }

  • Please help optimizing a long running query (left outer join, with 2 subqueries)

    - by 46and2
    Hi all. The query I need help with is: SELECT d.bn, d.4700, d.4500, ... , p.`Activity Description` FROM ( SELECT temp.bn, temp.4700, temp.4500, .... FROM `tdata` temp GROUP BY temp.bn HAVING (COUNT(temp.bn) = 1) ) d LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT temp2.bn, max(temp2.FPE) AS max_fpe, temp2.`Activity Description` FROM `pdata` temp2 GROUP BY temp2.bn ) p ON p.bn = d.bn; The ... represents other fields that aren't really important to solving this problem. The issue is on the the second subquery - it is not using the index I have created and I am not sure why, it seems to be because of the way TEXT fields are handled. The first subquery uses the index I have created and runs quite snappy, however an explain on the second shows a 'Using temporary; Using filesort'. Please see the indexes I have created in the below table create statements. Can anyone help me optimize this? By way of quick explanation the first subquery is meant to only select records that have unique bn's, the second, while it looks a bit wacky (with the max function there which is not being used in the result set) is making sure that only one record from the right part of the join is included in the result set. My table create statements are CREATE TABLE `tdata` ( `BN` varchar(15) DEFAULT NULL, `4000` varchar(3) DEFAULT NULL, `5800` varchar(3) DEFAULT NULL, .... KEY `BN` (`BN`), KEY `idx_t3010`(`BN`,`4700`,`4500`,`4510`,`4520`,`4530`,`4570`,`4950`,`5000`,`5010`,`5020`,`5050`,`5060`,`5070`,`5100`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 CREATE TABLE `pdata` ( `BN` varchar(15) DEFAULT NULL, `FPE` datetime DEFAULT NULL, `Activity Description` text, .... KEY `BN` (`BN`), KEY `idx_programs_2009` (`BN`,`FPE`,`Activity Description`(100)) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 Thanks!

  • Foreign key not working in MySQL: Why can I INSERT a value that's not in the foreign column?

    - by stalepretzel
    I've created a table in MySQL: CREATE TABLE actions ( A_id int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, type ENUM('rate','report','submit','edit','delete') NOT NULL, Q_id int NOT NULL, U_id int NOT NULL, date DATE NOT NULL, time TIME NOT NULL, rate tinyint(1), PRIMARY KEY (A_id), CONSTRAINT fk_Question FOREIGN KEY (Q_id) REFERENCES questions(P_id), CONSTRAINT fk_User FOREIGN KEY (U_id) REFERENCES users(P_id)); This created the table I wanted just fine (although a "DESCRIBE actions;" command showed me that the foreign keys were keys of type MUL, and I'm not sure what this means). However, when I try to enter a Q_id or a U_id that does not exist in the questions or users tables, MySQL still allows these values. What did I do wrong? How can I prevent a table with a foreign key from accepting invalid data? If I add TYPE=InnoDB to the end, I get an error: ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table './quotes/actions.frm' (errno: 150) Why might that happen? I'm told that it's important to enforce data integrity with functional foreign keys, but also that InnoDB should not be used with MySQL. What do you recommend?

  • Best practice. Do I save html tags in DB or store the html entity value?

    - by Matt
    Hi Guys, I was wondering about which way i should do the following. I am using the tiny MCE wysiwyg editor which formats the users data with the right html tags. Now, i need to save this data entered into the editor into a database table. Should I encode the html tags to their corresponding entities when inserting into the DB, then when i get the data back from the table, not have the encode it for XSS purposes but I'd still have to use eval for the html tags to format the text. OR Do i save the html tags into the database, then when i get the data back from the database encode the html tags to their entities, but then as the tags will appear to the user, I'd have to use the eval function to actually format the data as it was entered. My thoughts are with the first option, I just wondered on what you guys thought.

For example, I have predictable arrays of values such as 1 => [1, 2, 444, 0.987], 2 => [2, 23, 123, -0.234], 3 => [3, 1, 34, 1.456] I would like to store the above in a TC fixed length db. Is there a way to store the above as arrays instead of as strings?
