I just can't get this input text boxes, textarea and the button to be aligned like that , and to be honest the tutor isn't doing a great job to clearing stuff out Using alternative and absolute positioning, and setting top and right spacing is kinda no a good idea i think ... • Salary and profit distribution in game industry?

  A couple years ago, I started a group/team of passionate people in game development. I was the one who had the idea to form a group that will (hopefully) later be a company/real studio. I was the one who gathered the people too. We are consisting of only a few people (< 10 people) and everyone has their own specialties in game development. For some reason, everyone agreed to make me the executive director of the group. We are currently focused in creating flash games and mobile games. Until now, we have created a few free game titles and gained profit from some freelancing projects. Since I have no prior experience in running a "company", I decided to split the profit we gained from projects equally regardless of the member's role in the company, as long as he/she is involved in and have contributed a decent amount of work to the development of the project. My questions are: What is the correct way to split profit that is gained from freelance projects that are developed together? Once we've released enough products and ready to register our company legally, what about the salary? What benefits do I have from being the founder and the director? I'm not a control-freak, but I want everything to be clear.

• Opinions on NTFS for Mac solution?

  I am currently using the free NTFS-3G to access my NTFS drive from the Mac. It seems pretty stable (except once in the very beginning, it locked up the Mac and corrupted my NTFS drive, which I then fixed with chkdsk from a PC). However, speed is NOT one of its virtues. In fact, it's painfully slow I've been looking at buying Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X 8.0. Their product comparison PDF claims nearly double the speed (vs NTFS-3G) in almost every category (read, write, etc...). In addition, there is now an unsupported native solution with the snow leopard. Can folks here share their experiences. Is the native solution stable enough to be used for daily work? Should I just go with Paragon?

• Debug.Assert replacement for Phone and Store apps

  I don’t know about you, but all my code is, and always has been, littered with Debug.Assert statements. I think it all started way back in my (short-lived, but impactful to me) Eiffel days, when I was applying Design by Contract. Anyway, I can’t live without Debug.Assert. Imagine my dismay when I upgraded my Windows Phone 7.x app (Translator By Moth) to Windows Phone 8 and discovered that my Debug.Assert statements would not display anything on the target and would not break in the debugger any longer! Luckily, the solution was simple and in this post I share it with you – feel free to teak it to meet your needs. Steps to use Add a new code file to your project, delete all its contents, and paste in the code from MyDebug.cs Perform a global search in your solution replacing Debug.Assert with MyDebug.Assert Build solution and test Now, I do not know why this functionality was broken, but I do know that it exhibits the same broken characteristics for Windows Store apps. There is a simple workaround there to use Contract.Assert which does display a message and offers an option to break in the debugger (although it doesn’t output the message to the Output window). Because I plan on code sharing between Phone and Windows 8 projects, I prefer to have the conditional compilation centralized, so I added the Contract.Assert workaround directly in MyDebug class, so that you can use this class for both platforms – enjoy and enhance! • Can I have both Windows dynamic disk partition and some other non-Windows partition on the same disk?

  When a basic Windows disk is converted to dynamic, Windows creates a partition that span the whole disk with the type of "Windows LVM" and manages its dynamic partitions within this space. So even if there is still free space on this disk, it is not visible to any other OS besides Windows. This happens with MBR and GPT disks both. I would like to share a Windows dynamic disk with some other OS. I have to have dynamic disks because I use Windows SoftRaid (mirrors). So, my questions are: Is there any way to "force" Windows to take up less then the whole disk when it converts a basic disk to dynamic? Will Windows tolerate having some other non-Windows partition on its dynamic disk?

• Apache hanging with MaxClients is reached

  My Apache 2.2 (preform MPM) is hanging when MaxClients is reached, rather than queueing up requests and serving them when child processes become free. When this happens, the web server is totally unresponsive until it is manually restarted. The server stack is Ubuntu 8, MySQL 5, PHP 5. Hardware is Dual Xeons (2.8) with 2GB of RAM. It serves 30,000 - 50,000 pageviews per day. Static images, CSS, and JS are offloaded to a separate server and PHP is cached using eAccelerator. The HTML output of many pages is cached to the filesystem. The teams would never stop improving the Sample Browser for developers’ easier lives.   The Microsoft All-In-One Code Framework, Visual Studio and MSDN Samples Gallery teams are working closely to develop the next version of Sample Browser.  Here are the key functions in development or in discussion.  We hope to learn your feedback of the effort.  You can submit your suggestions to the official Visual Studio UserVoice site.  We look forward to hearing from you! 1) Offline Sample Search This is one of the top feature requests that we have received for Sample Browser.   The Sample Browser will support the offline search mode so that developers can search downloaded code samples when they do not have internet access.  This is particularly useful to developers in Enterprises with strict proxy settings. 2) Code Snippet Support and Visual Studio Editor Integration Today, the Sample Browser supports downloading and opening sample project.   However, when developers are searching for code samples, a better user experience would be to see the code snippets in the search result first.  Developers can quickly decide if the code snippet is relevant.   They can also drag and drop the code snippet into the Visual Studio Editor to solve some simple programming tasks.  If developers want to learn more about the sample, they can then choose to download the sample project and open it in Visual Studio. 3) Enterprise Sample Sharing and Searching Large enterprises have many code samples for their own internal tools and APIs that are not appropriate to be shared publicly in MSDN Samples Gallery.   In that case, today’s Sample Browser and MSDN Samples Gallery cannot help these Enterprise developers.  The idea is to create a Code Sample Repository in TFS, and provide an additional Visual Studio extension for Enterprise developers to quickly share code samples to TFS.  The Sample Browser can be configured to connect to the TFS Code Sample Repository to search for and download code samples.  This would potentially enable the Enterprise developers to be more productive. 4) Windows Store Sample Browser With the upcoming release of Windows RT and Microsoft Surface, developers are facing a completely new world of application platform.   Not like laptop, people would often use Microsoft Surface in commute and in travel.  Internet may not be available.  Today’s Visual Studio cannot be installed and run on Windows RT, however, our enthusiastic developers would hope to spend every minute on code.  They love code!   The idea is to create a Windows Store version of Sample Browser. Search and download samples from the online Samples Gallery when the user has internet access. • Comparison between Cocos2d and Corona

  I'm having a really hard time deciding which way to go on this. I'm about to start developing a game and I haven't been able to find many good comparisons between these approaches. I don't have many requirements for the game yet, but here is what I do know. needs to work on iPhone I don't have much money ($400 for Unity for iPhone is probably too much. I can probably afford $99 for Corona.) Graphics will be 2D Physics support is not needed Ability to use particles would be nice Game Center support would be nice (Corona is planning to support it soon) It would be nice to be able to support Android as well if it isn't much effort. I have done my own research, so I know basic things about them. I know Corona uses Lua and Cocos2D uses Objective C. I know that Corona allows deployment to iPhone and Android, but how easy is it? Cocos2D is free, but so many people talk about how easy it is to use Corona, but I don't like being restricted to features Corona supports or the price tag. I feel so torn here.

• How do I totally get rid of Norton Utilities

  Alright, so I treated myself to a new computer for Christmas. Windows7 64-bit, yada yada yada. Uninstalled Norton Security using Windows7 uninstall program, installed Microsoft Security Essentials in it's place. From a cold boot, I still get the screen from Norton asking me if I wanna sign up for the free six months, which I don't. Guess Windows7 uninstall left behind some pieces. Anyone know how I can get rid of this Norton screen? EDIT: @ Revolter: Great. Used Norton Removal Tool Successfully. Now I get a different pop-up window ALWAYS reminding me if I want to activate Norton Online Backup. What does one have to do to FINALLY get rid of these people?

• What comment-spam filtering service works?

  From an answer I gave to another question: There are comment filtering services out there that can analyse comments in a manner similar to mail spam filters (all links to the client API page, organised from simplest API to most complex): Steve Kemp (again) has an xml-rpc-based comment filter: it's how Debian filters comments, and the code is free software, meaning you can run your own comment filtering server if you like; There's Akismet, which is from the WordPress universe; There's Mollom, which has an impressive list of users. It's closed source; it might say "not sure" about comments, intended to suggest offering a captcha to check the user. For myself, I'm happy with offline by-hand filtering, but I suggested Kemp's service to someone who had an underwhelming experience with Mollom, and I'd like to pass on more reports from anyone who has tried these or other services.

• After using lvextend, I can't recover unused space

  I needed to add more disk space to my CentOS VM, so I added another virtual disk, then used lvextend to add the space to the existing partition. The steps I followed was: echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan pvcreate /dev/sdb vgextend VolGroup00 /dev/sdb lvextend -l +100%FREE /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 resize2fs /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 This worked fine. I subsequently filled up the VM, then deleted most of the used disk space. However, the unused disk space was never recovered after I deleted all of the files. This will illustrate what I'm saying better: # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 61G 32G 26G 56% / /dev/sda1 99M 20M 75M 21% /boot tmpfs 1006M 0 1006M 0% /dev/shm # pwd; du -h --max-depth=0 / 5.1G . I cannot figure out how to get the partition to see that only 5.1 GB is used. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

• Why does my computer slow down after being on too long?

  I'm sure everyone has experienced it - if you leave a computer on too long, every once in a while, it needs a fresh reboot. I have a laptop, and I only hibernate it, but every week or two, I'm going to need to restart otherwise it will just slow down (usually when windows update makes me restart) I was wondering though... why? What are some of the things that occur that eat up memory that can seemingly not be freed unless I reboot the OS. In addition, are there any programs I can get that can free up this memory and keep the computer alive for longer? Preferably for windows 7.

• Where can I find a useful Unicode fallback font for Mac OS X?

  On every browser I've tried (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Omniweb), when I go to a web page containing somewhat less-common characters, I can't see the glyphs. For example, on the Wikipedia page for the Bengali Language, the very first line contains a string of squares; on Windows, I can see the Bengali writing. On Windows, as long as I have the Arial Unicode MS font installed, these characters fall back to that font and display properly. Mac OS X doesn't seem to ship with a font containing these Unicode characters (it has Arial Unicode MS, but it must be a subset of the Windows version because Bengali doesn't display in that font). I checked on my Snow Leopard DVD and I installed "Additional Fonts" from the Optional Installs package, but I'm still missing many languages. Is there any good, free font that contains a large collection of languages? I know creating fonts is difficult and time-consuming, but it seems like including at least one font like this with operating systems should be standard by now.

• Windows DVD Maker on Windows 8?

  Something I really miss in Windows 8 is the Windows DVD Maker. I tried to get it running on Windows 8 by copying the DVD Maker directory from Windows 7 over to Windows 8. When I run it, I get the following error: I had hoped that this could be resolved by installing the Media Center add-on for Windows 8, but that did not have any effect. Several forum posts have suggested installing a codec pack such as the K-Lite codec pack, but I have always had bad experiences with those. I did, however, try to install the Shark007 codec pack, but that didn't work either. I also tried running the following commands (which did complete successfully, mind you) in an elevated command prompt, but they didn't change the outcome. regsvr32 msmpeg2vdec.dll regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll regsvr32 msmpeg2enc.dll I know there are other DVD making programs out there, some are even free, but the few I have tried do not compare to Windows DVD Maker's simplicity and beauty. Is there any way to make it work on Windows 8?

• Replicate / SYNC / Copy thousands of files

  Windows 32BIT Box (Server OS) 4GB RAM a 800GB LUN Mapped to the above box as a local drive Around 700GB of text files (Yes text files and a few thousand word documents) nested in thousands of directories. I need to move this to a new storage and map another server to it. What would be the best way to go about it ? What I did was mapped the existing LUN to our new box and mapped a LUN from the New storage to the new box too, and tried copying (windows copy) but that wasn't good / fast enough considering the downtime. I am now looking for either a script which will do this or a utility (prefer opensource / free) to move this size of data at a good speed. 2 x 1GB Nics teamed ether channel 2GBPs Any suggestions or pointers would be off great help Thanks !
