• Cant connect to asterisk internal database [on hold]

  Im trying to get a PHP script to connect to Asterisks internal mysql database. I tried the to use the standard method for example $con = mysqli_connect("192.168.1.126","root","mysql","asterisk"); However when I log into the asterisk server to access the mysql database all i need it to type "mysql" and im logged in. Im wondering is it possible for my php script to connect to asterisk internal database. • Is Windows XP Pro not a good Hyper-V guest citizen?

  On my Windows Server 2008 R2 w. the Hyper-V role, I have these guest VMs: 3 x Windows Server 2008 R2 2 x Windows Server 2003 x86 2 x Windows 7 x64 1 x Windows XP Pro x86 In general, all machines are very fast and responsive. However, the Windows XP Pro guest is very sluggish. It can take up to 2 minutes to connect to the console/or a RD session. Sometimes it can "go into sleep" for several minutes. I have tried to add a 2nd CPU and more memory, but it doesn't help. When the issue happens, it's more or less impossible to get a responsive Task Manager up to analyze which process is hogging the CPU. But I have noticed that it can be various processes; lsass.exe, crss.exe etc. Integration Services is installed. Microsoft Security Essentials is installed, but I have tried without it, no difference. Any ideas?

• Securing a Windows Server 2008 R2 Public Web Server

  I'm setting up a public web server: Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS7.5. Does anyone have a tutorial / walkthrough / tips on properly securing a public web server? I've seen a few tutorials but mostly focused on Windows Server 2003. What I've done so far: Created a specific user account for the website / app pool, Renamed Admin account, Installed FTPS, Configured firewall to block any non-public service (web / https), Configured firewall to allow access to management interfaces only from specific IP addresses (rdp, IIS management, ftp) Maybe a few other things but can't remember at the moment... ICMP is allowed... Should I disable all except ping? Port scan reveals only web and https ports. Any other suggestions? Thanks

• Performance Alert Writing to event Log but not running program

  I followed the instructions here How to create and configure performance alerts in Windows Server 2003 to set up an alert if the available logical disk space on one of my drives goes below a certain number. I selected the option to write to the application event log and select the "run this program" option and put in the path to a script that sends me an email. If I copy the path to the script and run it everything works and I get the email. When I start the alert I can see that the limit I set is being exceeded and the logs are being written to the application log, but the email is never being sent. I have the runas user and pword set to a Domain Admin. If I make the "run this program path" to C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe" it also doesn't start up the calculator. The Performance Logs and alerts services is running as Local Admin with allow to interact with desktop. What am I doing wrong?

  In Windows 2003 it was simple to do and one could use the winhttpcertcfg.exe (download) to give "NETWORK SERVICE" account access to a certificate. I'm now using Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5 and I am unable to find where and how to set permissions access permissions to a certificate in the certificate store. This Post showed how to do it in Vista and that winhttpcertcfg features were added into the certificates mmc however it doesn't seem to work with imported certificates or doesn't work anymore on Server 2008 R2. So does anyone have any idea on how give IIS 7.5 the correct permissions to read a certificate from the certificate store? And also what account from IIS 7.5 that needs the permission.

• IIS7 defaulting to default.php instead of default.aspx

  Hi guys. My client has just got a new dedicated server running Win2008 (we had 2003 before), II7, etc. I started setting a little ASP.NET 2.0 web application we have. Running on its own AppPool 2.0. The problem is that when I browse the site root (locally or remotely), I get 404 because the url now points to http://domain/default.php, when it should be default.aspx. Yes, I've checked the Defaults Documents settins for the website and I deleted everything but default.aspx (default.php was not even listed). To finish, I'll say that if I navigate to http://domain/default.aspx, the site works perfectly and I can follow links without problem. Any idea why is this happening? Or at least where I should start looking? Thanks!

  My application calls a Stored Procedure, through the stored procedure I am calling a Windows Service using the NET START command as follows: SELECT @Cmd = 'Net Start ServiceName /"' + @param1 + '" /"' + @param2 + '"' Now the parameters passed here are not reaching the OnStart method. These values are blank. Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String) Try service1= New Service service1.param2 = args(1) service1.param1 = args(0) Here I get args(0) as the name of service instead of the value that is passed, and args(1) is blank. Although the args.Getlength(0) returns 2. The service starts successfully, it invokes the executable, but the parameters are not there. What can be the reason? Administrative access might be required in NET START command? Has the syntax changed for NET START command in Windows Server 2008? Windows Services do not accept parameters in Windows Server 2008? The same thing is running fine on Windows Server 2003.

  Hello, I have some HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients connecting to a Windows Server 2003. Now I want to upgrade to 2008 R2, so I tested a trial installation with remote desktop in administration mode. So I try to connect my T20 to the server and... It doesn't matter if I turn off encryption or not it disconnects with an generic error instantly. The T20s have Windows CE embedded with RDP 5.2 installed. Out of curiosity I tried Windows Server 2008 (no R2) and it worked! I tried the same with a Windows 7 machine set up with- no work. I can not update the T20s to Windows NT embedded for example because they only have a low amount of flash memory. It seems the "new" version of RDP coming from Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 is completely incompatible with the older 5.2 version.   I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works.   I was recently installing Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 to create my build server on a VM (Windows 2003 R2 Std), I was wondering that it would be nice to specify the temporary folder for the files being extracted by MSI for use during the installation. This should ideally work for any MSIs. I have some more virtual hard disks I have attached to this VMs, to point the temporary folder for MSI to one of these virtual hard disks would be quite productive since I can remove/discard this virtual hard disk later. Compacting the C drive VHD is a pain, and does not always reclaim space correctly. I tried changing the %temp% and tmp environment variable with no effect?   I have a bunch of files whose filename looks like "<Track> - <Title> - <Artist>.mp3". I'd like to rewrite their MP3 Title tag to be "<Track> - <Title>.mp3" so that each song is displayed correctly on my elcheapo MP3 player. Since I rarely edit MP3 files anyway, MP3 Tag Tools 1.2 Build 008 from 2003 was good enough, but I can't figure out how to do this with this application. I just tried MP3Tag 2.46, but couldn't figure out if it can do this (created a new Action, to no avail). I also tried TagScanner 5.1.558, without success. Does someone know of a good, free Windows application that can do this? Thank you.

  I have enabled following policies, "Prohibit TCP/IP advanced connection" "Prohibit access to properties of components of a LAN connection" "Enable Windows 2000 Network Connections setings for Administrators" after doing all these, all machines running windows xp, 2000 and vista have network settings properties button disabled as expected. However all machines running windows 7 have no effect, I believe there are few more steps, all Windows 7 machines are on domain and we want to control this via Domain Controler's GPO. Please let me know, what I need to do to have Windows 7 disable the properties of network connection, I am not network expert, I read few articles about what new has been added in GPO of windows 7 but I am blank. Everything works fine on Windows XP, Vista, 2003 Server. Only Windows 7 is a problem.

• Effect of NonBlockingSendSpecialBuffering setting on Windows

  Recently I ran into some issue related to the UDP sending on Windows. When the application tries to send the packets over UDP in non-blocking mode, often it received socket error 10035 (WSAEWOULDBLOCK) in the send(), so likely that the socket buffer is full. I only seen this issue on Windows 2008 and did not see the same problem on Windows 2003. • Folder Disappeared In Outlook but is still searchable?

  Hi All currently having an issue where the personal folders in outlook seem to be disappearing. We have a folder called 0 Mail Filing, it seems to have disappeared, but doing a search for mail, it finds the mail and the folder is still in inbox/0 Mail Filing. Is there anyway to find the exact location, or get the folder back. We have checked all of the other subfolders and the folder is not in any of them. • MX Record Propagation

  How long does it take a change in MX records to propagate? Is the MX record TTL the max time it will take or do we also need to wait for all DNS records to propagate? We are changing our mail server from Exchange 2003 to Exchange Online. Our current MX records (at Network Solutions) have a 1 & 2 hour TTL (primary and backup MX respectively). When we change the MX records to point to Exchange Online should all MX records worldwide be updated within 2-4 hours or should we assume the traditional 48 hours for DNS to propagate? I assume that once all MX records propagate that all new incoming email will be directed to the new server.

• Re-deploy Reports on SCOM Management Packs

  I've migrated Reporting Services on a SCOM 2007 R2 install, and noticed that the reports have not being copied. I can create a new report, but the ones I've had because of the management packs are gone. I've tried re-applying the Management Packs however it doesn't re-deploy them and when I try to access for example: Monitoring - Microsoft Windows Print Server - Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 Print Services - State View - select any item and click Alerts on the right menu. • IIS FTP service - download timeouts and restarts getting the data twice

  We have an IIS FTP site on a Windows Server 2003 x64 machine. Application Layer Gateway service is disabled (so http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931130 does not apply). Windows Firewall service is disabled as well. Connection timeout for the FTP site (there is only one) is set to 1,200 seconds = 20 minutes. An external client can connect to the site, list directory contents and download small files. When a client attempts to download a large file (eg, if the download continues for 3 minutes, which is still under 20 minutes, but relatively long), the server sends all data, then the connection times out, the client issues REST / RETR commands attempting to restart the download since after the last byte (which I believe should succeed and receive exactly 0 bytes), and the server behaves as if the client tried to restart after byte 0, that is, it sends the entire file all over. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• Meetings Disappearing from Outlook 2010 Public Calendar

  We are experiencing a frustrating issue with our Public Calendars in Outlook 2010. Meetings that have been scheduled months in advance are missing, but will then reappear. If user A logs in @ 9:30 and goes to the calendar, certain meetings will be missing. 15 Minutes later, when user B logs in, the meetings are there. It is not tied to the actual user- I have seen this issue occur with the order of logging in reversed. These are with meetings that were posted to the calender months ago, so it should not be an issue of an item being updated. We have not upgraded our Exchange environment (still running on 2003), but this is a new machine, running Windows 7 Professional, on a domain, running office 2010. Are there any quirks or settings that I am missing or not aware of?

• How to view only Mail on shared email account?

  I have a support account which I should have access to in my Outlook 2010, however, since changing from 2003, the situation has become unusual. I used to be able to just view shared mail items in a seperate account, without it having the Calendar, Tasks and Reminders popping up in my face all hours of the day. Now, if I add the account, I get upwards of 60 task reminders that are not my personal account, and that clog up my Reminders window and task list. Is there a way to show only my Tasks and Reminders in Outlook 2010? I've tried the Advanced Filter option on the Tasks list, but if I set it to show only things from or to myself, everything disappears, or nothing disappears. I tried looking in the email account settings for something like 'Read email only' or something to do with only showing some of the modules of outlook, but it was useless.

  We're running a WSUS server for the simple purpose of caching updates. Since we are a very small network of all "power users", we've got the domain group policy for WSUS updates on the clients set to prompt for download/install. i.e. We don't want updates to install without our knowledge. But there are a few cases where it would be nice to be able to set a certain update to auto-install. e.g. Windows Defender updates, Malicious Software Removal Tool, Outlook Junk Email Filter, etc. Basically all the silly little updates that you would always install anyway and don't require a restart. Is there a way to set the general policy to prompt for download/install, but auto-install certain regular updates? P.S. WSUS itself does have the facility to auto-approve certain updates. • What is Causing this IIS 7 Web Service Sporadic Connectivity Error?

  On sporadic occasions we receive the following error when attempting to call an .asmx web service from a .Net client application: "The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." By sporadic I mean that it might occur zero, once every few days, or a half-dozen times a day for some users. It will never occur for the first web service call of a user. And the subsequent (usually the same) call will always work immediately after the failure. The failures happen across a variety of methods in the service and usually happens between 15-20 seconds (according to the log) from the time of the request. Looking in the IIS site log for the particular call will show one or the other of the following windows error codes: 121: The semaphore timeout period has elapsed. 1236: The network connection was aborted by the local system. Some additional environment details: Running on internal network web farm consisting of two servers running IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 OS. These problems did not occur when running in an older IIS6 web farm of three servers running on Windows Server 2003 (and we use a single IIS6/2003 instance for our development and staging environments with no issues). EDIT: Also, all of these server instances are VMWare virtual machines, not sure if that is a surprise anymore or not. The web service is a .Net 2.0/3.5 compiled .asmx web service that has its own application pool (.Net 2.0, integrated pipeline). Only has Windows Authentication enabled. We have another web service on the farm that uses the same physical path as the primary service, the only difference being that Basic Authentication is enabled. This is used for a portion of our ERP system. Have tried using the same and different application pool - no effect on the error. This site isn't hit as often as the primary site and has never had an error. As mentioned, the error will only happen when called from the .Net client - not from other applications. The client application is always creating a new web service object for each request and setting the service credentials to System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials. The application is either deployed locally to a client or run in a Citrix server session. Those users running in Citrix doesn't seem to experience the issue, only locally deployed clients. The Citrix servers and the web farm are located in the same physical location and are located in the same IP range (10.67.xx.xx). Locally deployed clients experiencing the error are located elsewhere (10.105.xx.xx, 10.31.xx.xx). I've checked the OS logs to see if I can see any problems but nothing really sticks out. EDIT: Actually, I myself just ran into the error a little bit ago. I decided to check out the logs again and saw that there was a Security log entry of "Audit Failure" at the 'same' time (IIS log entry at 1:39:59, event log entry at 1:39:50). Not sure if this is a coincidence or not, I'll have to check out the logs of previous errors. I'm probably grasping for straws but the details: Log Name: Security Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing Date: 7/8/2009 1:39:50 PM Event ID: 5159 Task Category: Filtering Platform Connection Level: Information Keywords: Audit Failure User: N/A Computer: is071019.<**.net Description: The Windows Filtering Platform has blocked a bind to a local port. Application Information: Process ID: 1260 Application Name: \device\harddiskvolume1\windows\system32\svchost.exe Network Information: Source Address: 0.0.0.0 Source Port: 54802 Protocol: 17 Filter Information: Filter Run-Time ID: 0 Layer Name: Resource Assignment Layer Run-Time ID: 36 I've also tried to use Failed Request Tracing in IIS7 but the service call never actually gets to where FRT can capture it (even though the failure is logged in the web service log). The network infrastructure group said they checked out the DNS and any NIC settings are correct so there is no 'flapping'. Everything pans out. I'm not sure that they checked out any domain controller servers though to see if that could be an issue. Any ideas? Or any other debugging strategies to get to the bottom of this? I'm just the developer in charge of the software and don't really have the knowledge on what to investigate from the networking side of things - although it does sound like a networking issue to me based on what is happening.   Hello we just upgraded from exchange 2003 to 2010. 2010 seems to be pushing people to stop using public folders. Public folders had the nice feature that you could see the contacts of the public folder in your address book. I haven't found a way to add shared contacts to the Outlook address book. How do you do it? If I am unable to find the solution I will likely have to go through the hassle of migrating the public folders over. I was having a problem with that so I went the route of shared contacts.

• PHP 5.2.11: Unable to load dynamic library complaints

  I installed PHP 5.2.11 and upon enabling the php_mssql.dll module (and the obligatory restart of the services) started receiving warnings about not being able to load the dynamic library. The operating environment is IIS ISAPI under Windows 2003 R2. Here is the list of things that were checked File Exists in \PHP\ext directory and has the same timestamp as the other distribution delivered libraries. Permissions are correct to the file. Other extensions are enabled and functioning with identical permissions. ntwdblib.dll has been copied from a SQL Server 2005 installation (per php.net's requirements for the module) Other modules before and after the php_mssql entry are working. I've also stripped down and remove all non-essential references with detectable improvements. I turned up logging and enabled all the error logs in the php.ini, nothing is generated by the logs. Searching Google has turned up a slew of closed/unsolved bug reports on php.net and some miscellaneous near-matches, none of which have really addressed the problem or lead to any inspirations.
