    Hi All I have been reading the articles on MSDN, but my mind is dead (this usually happens when I read MSDN (No offense MSDN, but your articles confuse me at times.)), and I'm trying to do some "background work" in may app, but not sure how. It's just a single method. But the application hangs, and I have to wait up to 1 - 3 minutes for it to become ...unhanged?     I don't really understand how modulus division works. I was calculating 27 % 16 and wound up with 11 and I don't understand why. I can't seem to find an explanation in layman's terms online.     I've a simple product installer for windows OS, which could be evaluated for a month. What are the techniques I can use so that this piece of software is not used after a month? I've seen that several s/w use system date to check it but it's very primitive and easily forge-able. I think a key based system based on registry or online verification could be an option but I don't know much about these. Please help.

  • Problem with C++ classes

    I have a class defined called extBlock. I then make an instance of that class with this extBlock mainBlock = new extBlock(1, 1024); I get this error: error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'extBlock *' to 'extBlock' Can anyone help me with why I am getting this error. I have seen examples online of declaring it like this with a pointer extBlock *mainBlock = new extBlock(1, 1024); But if I do it this way it does not let me call the functions of mainBlock

    I don't really know much about sockets except how to read and write to them as if they were files. I know a little about using socket selectors. I don't get why you have to flush a socket, what's actually happening there? The bits just hang out somewhere in memory until they get pushed off? I read some things online about sockets, but it's all very abstract and high level. What's actually happening here?

    Its common for the dataSource and delegate to be the same object, its also common for this object to be the viewController. In all the info/tutorials that I have seen online delegates are always setup as above. If I wanted to create my own class instead can anyone give me any pointers as to how I might do that. Where does that object get instantiated, how do you connect the dataSource and delegate items etc. I am using UITableView to test this.

  • Custom edit box - how to do it?

    I'd like to create a new text editor with some non-standard capabilities for the edit box where you would normally type your code (and do syntax highlighting). Since I'd like to have complete control over this I was thinking how should I proceed.. my target is primarily linux and I was thinking to use GTK+ as GUI toolkit. Since I'm a newbie I'm not sure how custom controls are drawn/rendered. Should I consider using openGL to draw a control from scratch? That doesn't sound right to be honest but I have no idea on how to do it.. The "nonstandard capabilities" would include drawing stuff on the control (shapes and boxes) at any position, being able to write into multiple areas.. all stuff you can't normally do with an edit box. Question: How should I create a GTK+ nonstandard GUI control like an edit box that has the following capabilities: edit text, select text, delete text, draw message boxes on top of it, draw images inside it (under and/or on top of the text), insert text into multiple places at the same time? Should I subclass an edit box control or should I "render" an entirely new one with openGL or such? I'm still in the design phase (I even need to identify the frameworks I should use) and I've taken a look at the Chromium project (GTK+). I haven't found anything that suited my problem

    Two weeks ago I blogged about a cool new site that allows you to download and customize the Visual Studio code editor background and text colors (for both VS 2008 and VS 2010 version). The site also allows you to submit and share your own Visual Studio color schemes with others. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Browsing Wallpaper Images The site has dozens of wallpaper images that you can browse through and choose from.  They range from the cool and abstract: To the fun and silly: Enabling the Wallpaper Images as your Windows Desktop You can zoom in on any image (hover over the image and then click the “zoom” button that appears over it) and then download it to be your Windows desktop image.  If you visit the site using Internet Explorer, you can also zoom in on the image, then right click on the image and choose the “Set as Background” context menu item to enable it as your Windows desktop.
