JAVA vs .NET Technology - Way 2 go Futher

I have my subject .net acedemically. I also learned core-java and did a project as well. I took training from a java firm. Now, as a skill I do have knowledge as both language. But, it is creating a large problem to me that, which field I should chhose? Even if having better OOP funda, will it be easier for me to transfer from one-another in future ? Please suggest me a way. Also, we do have may technologies available at both side, like JSP, JSF, J2ME, Share Point, SilverLight etc. Which is better as per their reliabity point of view? Which are fast growing and useful technologies used mostly in current IT corporate world ? Are they easier to learn at fresher's point of view? Please answer. Perhaps, this answer may help me mostly to create my way to learn them and go further.

Download videos from youtube as I see it

This may seem a somewhat strange requirement : I want to download youtube videos as I see it. I know that I would have to capture the packets using a program like wireshark , and I do know that this is possible. So lets say I have 3 computers on my network and 1 smartphone. Lets say I view a youtube video on my phone. I now want this video to be recorded on any one of the computers so that I can see it later(record in the sense capture the packets so that I dont have to download it again and waste my bandwidth). Are there any programs which will do this for me? The reason I want this is I use IMediaShare to view youtube videos on my Tv. Now once I see a video if I want to see it at a later point of time I have to download the entire video again.

MVC: Nasty __o not declared

I ran into this little error with MVC where a bunch of errors showed up about __o not declared. This was driving me nuts. Lets say you have a view that’s using your site master and that view is throwing this error. Just add the items into the content section where the error occurs like so: <asp:Content ID="indexContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <%-- The following line works around an ASP.NET compiler warning --%> <%: ""%> Then add the rest of your code. That seems to fix it and its pretty simple too.

Light on every model and not in the whole scene

I am using a custom shader and try to pass the effect on my Models like that: foreach (ModelMesh mesh in Model.Meshes) { foreach (ModelMeshPart part in mesh.MeshParts) { part.Effect = effect; } mesh.Draw(); } My only issue is that every Model now has its own light source in it. Why is this happening and is this a problem of my shader? Blogger Blog Takes Ages to Load after Custom Domain Redirection

I recently bought a custom domain for a blogger blog (technabled.com) I have for sometime now. I followed the instructions on blogger's documentation. I added A-name records and CNAME records with my DNS provider. But, now, some strange problems are cropping up. If I connect to my broadband network and then ping technabled.com, it times out. Then, if I visit the webpage, which takes almost one and half minutes to load, and then if I ping technabled.com, it shows expected result. This is not just me. I asked some of the regular readers, who reported the same issue. As a result of this, I am losing a lot of visits. What is stranger is that the subsequent visits to the blog is faster. I have checked with a few online services to test the performance. WebPageTest seems to say the same thing: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/110117_1N_7PE/ (please see the First View / Repeat View time) Also, the pagespeed score is not that bad. So I am ruling out other possibilities. I am at a loss as to what I should do to find a solution. Help is much appreciated. :)

Best way to protect website application code

Background I have a web application that I host on my own server. I have clients who use the application as is, but some have asked if they can host the application on their own server. This enables them to have their own URLS rather than mine. The application only forms part of their website so I'm assuming it will not be possible for my server to respond to a direct call to their domain etc To give some examples, i currently have urls like www.mydomain.com/profile, www.mydomain.com/index.php?option=someoption&view=someview&id=1 What my clients' want is www.theirdomian.com/profile, www.theirdomian.com/index.php?option=someoption&view=someview&id=1 etc Question My question is, what is the best way for me to allow them to use their own URLs with my application, without giving them all the backend source code and databases to install on their server? One way I thought would be to create a router.php file that sits on their server. The router then asks my server to output the html. The router modifies all the links etc in the html source and outputs the new html through the clients server. When a link is clicked on the clients site, the router receives the request and modifies the url to get the data from my server etc. Is this an effective way to achieve what I want, or is it way off the mark.

What is a good web interface for remote linux load monitoring?

I'm looking for some type of remote linux monitoring software that you can view using a web interface. And I'm not just looking for the basic load information. I'm also looking for process information, similar to the info that you get from TOP. Like I'd just like to be able to pop open this webpage to view whats going on with the server at a moments notice. For example, perhaps just a basic PHP page that is on the server that uses basic AJAX to display and refresh results from the TOP command in the page. I was thinking about writing something like this, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

SITUATION: A larger company acquires a smaller one. IT infrastructure has to be merged. There are no immediate plans to change the current size or role of the smaller company - the offices and production remain. It has a Win 2003 SBS domain server, Win 2000 file server, linux server for SVN and internal Wikipedia, 2 or 3 production machines, LTO backup solution. The servers are approx. 5 years old. Cisco network equippment (switches, wireless, ASA). Mail solution is a hosted Exchange. There are approx. 35 desktops and laptops in the company. IT infrastructure unification: There are 2 IT merging proposals. 1.) Replacing old servers, installing Win Server 2008 domain controller, and setting up either subdomain or domain trust to a larger company. File server and other servers remain local and synchronization should be set up to a centralized location in larger company. Similary with the backup - it remains local and if needed it should be replicated to a centralized location. Licensing is managed by smaller company. 2.) All servers are moved to a centralized location in larger company. As many desktop machines as possible are replaced by thin clients. The actual machines are virtualized and hosted by Terminal server at the same central location. Citrix solutions will be used. Only router and site-2-site VPN connection remain at the smaller company. Backup internet line to insure near 100% availability is needed. Licensing is mainly managed by larger company. Only specialized software for PCs that will not be virtualized is managed by smaller company. I'd like to ask you to discuss both solutions a bit. In your opinion, which is better from the operational point of view? Which is more reliable, cheaper in the long run? Easier to manage from the system administrator's point of view? Easier on the budget and easier to maintain from IT department's point of view? Does anybody have any experience with the second option and how does it perform in production environment? Pros and cons of both? Your input will be of great significance to me. Thank you very much!

Advanced TSQL training

Over the past few years, Ive had it on my to do list to write and deliver and full-scale SQLServer training course and not just an hour long bite size session at user groups and conferences. To me, SQLServer development is not just knowing and remembering the syntax of commands. Sometimes I semi-jest that i have “Written a merge statement without looking up the syntax”, but I know from my interactions on and off line that I am far from alone in this. In any case we have an awesome tool in the internet which is great at looking things up. When developing SQL Server based solutions, of more importance is knowing the internals of the engine. SQL Server is a complex piece of software and we need to be able to understand to a fairly low level ( you can always dive deeper ) the choices that it makes and why it makes them in order to deliver performant, reliable, predictable and scalable systems to our customers and end-users. This is the view i shall be taking over two days in March (19th and 20th) in London and ,TBH, one I dont see taken often enough. Early bird discounts are available until 31Dec. Cannot access an application folder in Program files

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a new machine. I installed an application using a ClickOnce installer. The application runs fine, but I cannot access the application folder it created in c:\Program files (x86). It bombs with access denied. I try to view the properties on the folder and it takes about 1 minute to display (other folders take 1 second). It says I cannot view any information because I'm not the owner. It doesn't say who the current owner is (instead - Unable to display current owner.) but says I can take ownership. When I try it fails again with Access Denied, even though I have administrative permissions. Why can't I access this folder nor take ownership?

Establish connection with an IP camera behind a modem-router assigned with a private IP by Internet Service Provider?

Most solutions out there require the modem-router to have been assigned a public IP by the ISP. After which, one can access the IP camera via a portforward setting on the router. However, my ISP only provides private IPs internal to their system (they probably have a limited pool of public IPs). So I am unable to view my IP cameras in the way described. I'm wondering if there's a way to work around this problem without having to need a public IP. Since, after all, two users on Yahoo Messenger or Facebook Chat are able to find one another and exchange data despite both sides being within the internal networks of their respective ISPs. Given that I only plan to view my IP cameras via iOS or Android running on a smartphone or tablet, any ready-to-use solutions out there?

Ops Center has two database options - you can have Ops Center automatically install a database on the Enterprise Controller system, or you can use your own database on any system you choose. If you use your own database, it's obviously important to make sure that this database is running smoothly. You have a few tools that can help you do this. The first is the ecadm command. This command has a variety of subcommands that let you view and control the status of the Enterprise Controller. Two subcommands in particular are relevant to the database: ecadm verify-db: This subcommand verifies that the database is reachable and that the schemas are configured with the proper permissions. Use the -v option if you want more details; the command is normally terse if the DB is configured correctly. ecadm sqlplus -r: This subcommand opens an sqlplus console connection to the database. The -r option makes this console read-only, which isn't necessary, but is generally a good idea. You can also view the database contents using Oracle SQL Developer or other tools. The Accessing Core Product Data how-to describes this process.

XNA- Transforming children

So, I have a Model stored in MyModel, that is made from three meshes. If you loop thrue MyModel.Meshes the first two are children of the third one. And was just wondering, if anyone could tell me where is the problem with my code. Another thing I wanted to ask, if I change the scale/rotation/position of a children mesh, and then do CopyAbsoluteBoneTransforms() will children meshes be positioned properlly(at the proper distance) or would achieving that require more math/methods? How do I correctly display special characters in my Firefox browser?

(Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows XP) Every once in a while I notice an odd character on certain web pages when browsing the web. It is a outline of a box with a 4-digit number inside. And example of a page that has these characters is: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#highlights After each section heading (Elastic, Completely Controlled, ...) I see a box with the number "0096" inside. I looked at the cached version on Google, and google has – in it's place, so I'm guessing I should be seeing a dash there instead of the box with the numbers in it. I have tried changing the character encoding in Firefox but haven't been able to find one that shows these characters correctly. Is there a way to allow Firefox to view these characters? Is there any addin or tools available for web browser to view multiple web sites on one page or tab? Or is there any web service to allow me to customize one page for multiple web sites? For example, within a page, there are some tools to allow me to define regions like a table or several frames. Then I'll be able to add url to each cell or frames. After settings, I'll be able to view several sites on one tab or page. Not sure if there is any tools available?

How can I make Excel documents open in different windows?

Office 2007, Windows Server 2008 x64. How can I make Excel so that when I double-click a document, it opens in a new Excel instance, so that I can easily view them side-by-side as separate windows and not using the View-Arrange All functionality? Now I have to go to the task bar, click on one document to see it and then click on the other document in the task bar to switch to that one. As the alternative, I close one document, open a new Excel window, then drag the document in there. Thank you.

Tool or website or process to display previews of website templates residing in archive files?

I have hundreds of website templates in rar or zip files. To view any of them I have to extract the archive to a temporary folder and then view the template in there. It's a time consuming manual process to do this for each template Is there a tool which enables me to quickly preview the templates in the files? OR (if I extract each template into a separate folder off a master folder) A web app which can enable previewing of each template by automatically creating a link or a preview image (similar to template sites) of the home page for? OR any method to preview the templates in the fastest convenient way possible?

They Listened to Feedback while Keeping to their Plans I am one of the people in the “bring back the start menu” camp. I want my start menu. I *like* my start menu. Microsoft heard that and put it back, fantastic. But they implemented it in a way that still pushes the Windows 8 UI – and I’m actually pretty happy with it. When you hit the Start menu, you get the live-tiles displayed overlaying the desktop. But you can also swipe from the bottom to get the “all-applications” view. This, in essense, is really what those that like the Start Menu want. I believe it was mentioned that you can configure the all-applications view to be the default. They’re Committed to Improving Windows 8 The commitment to rapid deployments Ballmer talked about is crucial to Windows 8’s success. I think the little improvements they showed are excellent (hands-free mode, multi window docking, better multi-monitor support, new developer controls, etc.). Hardware Vendors are Committed to Windows 8 They showed off a number of new hardware products (Windows 8 and Windows Phone). The Surface’s introduction to the market has done nothing to dissuade their hardware partners. Bing as a Platform is Huge for Developers!!! This was the biggest take-away from the keynote! What the team is doing with Bing not as a search engine but as a developer API is very impressive! I’m going to be diving into this over the rest of Build so watch more blog posts coming on it. Azure, Office 365, and other topics will be covered at tomorrow’s keynote. So far, great kick off to Build. Now on to sessions! D

Include page url in php error_log

I'm working on sorting out all my php errors. I've just setup so that all errors go into one log so I can view them. The problem is that I can't really see what page someone trying to access that gave them an error. Of course I can see the file where the error was generated, but these are often includes used on other pages - so I can't really see what URL a person was attempting to view when this error was displayed, so I can't really replicate the problem. Any suggestions? Is it possible to include the actual page URL?

What kind of permission is this? (Groups+Roles)

I'm starting to need an access control for roles in my app. I don't know much of this, but I understand how vBulletin works: I create groups, then give permissions to groups. I think that what I need is the Role Bases Access Control (RBAC) , but i'm not sure, because I need groups to give permissions instead of single users (Maybe it's not that complicated to achieve). Example of what I'm thinking: Given a post: Editor's Group has permission to view it before it's published. Editor's Group has permission to edit its content. Public Group (Default) has not permission to view it before it's published. Admin Group has permission to delete the post. So basically I wan't orientation about if RBAC is what I need. And also, how would it be good to store group membership in a user, for example, would be good to have: ID NAME PASSWORD GROUPS (1, MyName, MyPassword, 1/2/3/4/5) and explode it via PHP or one registry for every Group membership in a table named permissions, example: USERID, USERGROUP values (1, 1), (1, 2) Maybe should be the second way because of the formal norms but I didn't study yet Databases 1 at college.

Venti (All Sessions, BOFs and Tutorials) To view slides paired with audio of each session, go to the JavaOne content catalog (JavaOne homepage, click on JavaOne Technical Sessions) and select a session. If a video is available, you'll see "Media" in the right column. Look under "Presentation Download" to get the slides. Sessions are being made available as quickly as possible. Question about modeling with MVC (the pattern, not the MS stuff / non web)

I'm working on an application in which I'm looking to employ the MVC pattern, but I've come up against a design decision point I could use some help with. My application is going to deal with the design of state-machines. Currently the MVC model holds information about the machine's states, inputs, outputs, etc. The view is going to show a diagram for the machine, graphically allowing the user to add new states, establish transitions, and put the states in a pleasing arrangement, among other things. I would like to store part of the diagram's state (e.g. the x and y state positions) when the machine information is stored for later retrieval, and am wondering how best to go about structuring the model(s?) for this. It seems like this UI information is more closely related to the view than to the state-machine model, so I was thinking that a secondary model might be in order, but I am reluctant to pursue this route because of the added complexity. Adding this information to the current model doesn't seem the right way to go about it either. This is the my first time using the MVC pattern so I'm still figuring things out. Any input would be appreciated.

Sharepoint 2010 can't find domain users when granting permissions

I'm trying to grant permissions to other people to view a SharePoint site but when granting permissions it uses "Check Names" and claims any user or group that is part of a domain does not exist. It does this if I try granting permissions to the team site or in central admin BUT if I try to add someone to Farm Administrators in Central admin then all of the sudden it can find all domain users. Why is it finding domain users in that one context but not others? It is supposed to be using NTLM authentication and has Windows configured as the authentication provider (And IIS is configured to use NTLM). What's even more strange is I enabled Anonymous Access for the team site which I thought would allow anyone to view it but others say they can't access it.

OpenGL, objects disappear at a certain z distance

I'm writing a managed OpenGL library in C++, and I'm having a pretty annoying problem. Whenever I set an objects position to -2.0 or lower, the object disappears. And at distances 0 through -1.9, it doesn't appear to move away from them camera. I have a world matrix (which is multiplied by the objects position to move it), a view matrix (which is just the identity matrix currently) and a projection matrix, which is setup like this: FOV: 45.0f Aspect Ratio: 1 zNear: 0.1f zFar: 100.0f using GLMs glm::perspective method. The order the matrices are multiplied by in the shader is world, view, projection, then position. I can move the object along the X and Y axis perfectly fine. I have depth testing enabled, using GL_LEQUAL. I can change the actually vertices positions to anything I want, and they move away from the camera or towards it perfectly fine. It just seems to be the world matrix acting up. I'm using glm::mat4 for the world matrix, and glm::vec3 for positions. Whats going on here? I'm also using OpenGL 3.1, GLSL version 140 (1.4?).

Munin help... configure graphs to show different time periods

I'm running a server with Munin installed through WHM cPanel. I've been googling around and I can't seem to find out how to do the following: A: Change a graph to show a different time period (currently I can only view, day, week, month, year). I would like to possibly view per minute, per hour... or specific intervals such as per 30 minutes, per 4 hours, etc... B(optional, but preferred): Add new graphs with the above criteria(A) above. I am a novice with all things that will possibly be required to do this (such as ssh). I wish I could just go edit a php file as I'm highly experienced in that subject. Thanks for any help!
