  • Securing Facebook

    - by Promather
Probably like most of you, I am concerned about the privacy of Facebook. Some people suggested that I use the HTTPS address instead. Unfortunately, many links in the HTTPS page itself link back to HTTP. So I am wondering whether it is possible in Ubuntu to redirect any request to: http://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/ This way I feel safer. If you also know the solution for Windows, it might be great to share (probably as a comment to my question rather than answer, as this forum is supposed to be for Ubuntu) so that I can share it with friends.

  • Trying to retrace our SEO domain redirect strategy

    - by dans
An SEO built a copy of my company's e-commerce site on another domain that contained our product's keywords in the name (i.e. as if Levi's built a duplicate site on bluejeans.com)...and then they referenced a lot of the images on the actual website from the other domain (as if Levis.com had images on it referenced like: img src="http://www.bluejeans.com/jeans-front.jpg"), but when you tried to reach the site by typing the name into the browser you would be redirected to the regular website, so the site wasn't really used for any purpose except I guess SEO. Since I didn't think this was doing anything GOOD for us at the time, I deleted the duplicate site and let the hosting on it expire, only to watch our search engine position rankings fall dramatically. Any ideas as to what was going on there? I want to get it back to understand its impact, but I don't know how it was set up. I contacted our host and they have no idea how it was set up. I suspect there was some sort of redirect in play, or something?

  • .htaccess redirect question

    - by user473056
Hi, I'm trying to set up my .htaccess file to take the displayed link and route it to the destination link as below Displayed Link http://www.my-website.com/click-4559226-10388358?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdestination-website2.com%2FItem.php%3Fid%3D44350396%26sld%3DA6D7A632-821E-4b78-ACD0-147658B77BD6 Destination Link http://www.destination-website.com/click-4559226-10388358?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdestination-website2.com%2FItem.php%3Fid%3D44350396%26sld%3DA6D7A632-821E-4b78-ACD0-147658B77BD6 Effectively, all that changes is the first url (http://www.my-website.com) everything after that is the same. Is this possible and could someone briefly explain how I would go about it? * Just to be clear, I dont want to redirect everything from my-webiste.com. Just links that start http://www.my-website.com/click-4559226-10388358

  • CAS authentication and redirects with jQuery Ajax

    - by Steve Nay
I've got an HTML page that needs to make requests to a CAS-protected (Central Authentication Service) web service using the jQuery AJAX functions. I've got the following code: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: request, dataType: "json", complete: function(xmlHttp) { console.log(xmlHttp); alert(xmlHttp.status); }, success: handleRedirects }); The request variable can be either to the CAS server (https://cas.mydomain.com/login?service=myServiceURL) or directly to the service (which should then redirect back to CAS to get a service ticket). Firebug shows that the request is being made and that it comes back as a 302 redirect. However, the $.ajax() function isn't handling the redirect. I wrote this function to work around this: var handleRedirects = function(data, textStatus) { console.log(data, textStatus); if (data.redirect) { console.log("Calling a redirect: " + data.redirect); $.get(data.redirect, handleRedirects); } else { //function that handles the actual data processing gotResponse(data); } }; However, even with this, the handleRedirects function never gets called, and the xmlHttp.status always returns 0. It also doesn't look like the cookies are getting sent with the cas.mydomain.com call. (See this question for a similar problem.) Is this a problem with the AJAX calls not handling redirects, or is there more going on here than meets the eye?

  • Logging Redirect Location in Apache

    - by matthew
Using the standard "Combined" log format, when Apache returns a 301 response it logs it in the access log, which is good, but it only logs the response code. It doesn't log the location to which the client is being directed. What argument do I need to add to the CustomLog format in order to get it to log this information? It wasn't obvious to me from the documentation.

  • Reverse a .htaccess redirection rule

    - by Aahan Krish
Let me explain by example. Say, I have this redirection rule in my .htaccess file: RedirectMatch 301 ^/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/$ http://www.example.com/$2 What it basically does is, redirect http://www.mysite.com/sports/test-post/ to http://www.mysite.com/test-post/. Now, how do I modify the .htaccess rule to do the opposite? (i.e. redirect http://www.mysite.com/test-post/ to http://www.mysite.com/sports/test-post/)

  • header redirect in Wordpress Plugin?

    - by Kristopher
I'm writing a Wordpress plugin, and based on certain circumstances, I want to redirect to a different page, but the redirect never happens. headers_sent() returns false. I'm using the pre_get_posts hook. Here is a small snippet: function test_redirect() { header("Location: http://www.cnn.com/"); } add_action('pre_get_posts', 'test_redirect'); The redirect never happens, and no errors are reported on the page or in the error log. Why can't I redirect?

  • Redirect index.php in CodeIgniter

    - by Gabriel Bianconi
Hello. I created a CodeIgniter application and now I'm trying to redirect the urls with index.php to urls without it. My current .htaccess is: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / # Removes trailing slashes (prevents SEO duplicate content issues) RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ $1 [L,R=301] # Enforce www # If you have subdomains, you can add them to # the list using the "|" (OR) regex operator RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www|subdomain) [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.plugb.com/$1 [L,R=301] # Checks to see if the user is attempting to access a valid file, # such as an image or css document, if this isn't true it sends the # request to index.php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] The only problem is that the same page is accessible with and without the index.php. For example: http://www.plugb.com/index.php/games/adventure-rpg and http://www.plugb.com/games/adventure-rpg Is there a way to redirect the index.php URLs? Thank you, Gabriel.

  • WordPress front page (homepage) fails to redirect when static front page is set.

    - by Keyslinger
I have configured WordPress to display a static front page as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_SubPanel#Reading_Settings When save changes and try to visit my front page, my browser displays the following error: "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." Disabling cookies does not remedy the situation. I'm using the theme, Constructor (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/constructor), which I suspect may be contributing to the problem. How can I make WordPress properly display my front page?

  • Rails: How to produce 404 or redirect upon undesired url exploitation?

    - by Baby Diego
I want to hide the urls for editing users and their profiles behind safer and meaningful urls. For instance, I want /user/13/edit to be /settings/account and /user/13/profile/edit to be /settings/profile. I managed to achieve that, but for that I had to load the user information from the current_user bit from the session. Like so: # users_controller def edit @user = current_user end # profiles_controller def edit @user = current_user @profile = @user.profile end But now, since I can't compare @user.id from the params with the current_user in the session, how can I stop the old urls (/user/13/edit and /user/13/profile/edit) from being exploitable? They always load the forms for the current user, so there's no harm done, but I'd be more comfortable if they just produced a 404 error or something. Thanks in advance.

  • mod_rewrite: remove trailing slash (only one!)

    - by tshabalala
Hello. I use mod_rewrite/.htaccess for pretty URLs. I'm using this condition/rule to eliminate trailing slashes (or rather: rewrite to the non-trailing-slash-URL, by a 301 redirect; I'm doing this to avoid duplicate content and because I like URLs with no trailing slashes better): RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.localhost$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] Working well so far. Only drawback: it also forwards "multiple-trailing-slash"-URLs to non-trailing-slash-URLs. Example: http://example.tld/foo/bar////// forwards to http://example.tld/foo/bar while I only want http://example.tld/foo/bar/ to forward to http://example.tld/foo/bar. So, is it possible to only eliminate trailing slashes if it's actually just one trailing slash? Sorry if this is a somewhat annoying or weird question! Thanks.

  • Javascript to check if there is flash player installed and redirect to the neededn page.

    - by themajiks
Hi. I have this script. This determines if there is a flash player installed in the browser, it redirects the browser to a flash website. if not, then it opens a non-flash website. The Code is here: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer" && navigator.appVersion.indexOf("Mac") == -1 && navigator.appVersion.indexOf("3.1") == -1) || (navigator.plugins && navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"])|| navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash 2.0"]){ window.location='flash/index.html'; } else { window.location='index.html'; } --> </SCRIPT> What i want is to embed this code in the non-flash index page. it should just check if there is no flash then simply go with the current index file that already has been opened, or if there is no flash player, then load the index file from within the flash website. Currently, when index.html (non-flash) is opened, it goes into loop and keeps on checking for the flash player. Can I modify the window.location='index.html'; statement no to load any file here, just go on with the file already opened.??

  • Struts 2: redirect-action ? From on page to another and back again.

    - by Stephan
Hello, i have a jsp page that has a submit button. This button is linked with another jsp page. So lets assume my stuts file looks like this: B.jsp So now the submit button being on page "A.jsp" will take me to B.jsp. This works. The problem is that i want to do the following: press on the submit button on page A.jsp , go to B.jsp where i will press again a button and go back to A.jsp . The problem is that to page B.jsp go many pages, so B.jsp has to know when pressing the submit button to which page will take me back , in this case A.jsp again. So in a few words, B.jsp has to know from which page i came from so that i can go back again by pressing a submit button (this could be a parameter that would be sent back to A.jsp again, but does not really matter at the current point) A.jsp - B.jsp - A.jsp C.jsp - B.jsp - C.jsp

  • Using .htaccess to rewrite dynamic subdomains

    - by brokekidweb
I'm currently using .htaccess to rewrite on my website to create dynamic subdomains. I also use it to remove the .php extension on all pages. However, once inside the subdomain, it tries to redirect again. For example, if you went to https://admin.example.com/test, it would actually be accessing https://example.com/clients/admin/test.php. I keeping getting various 404 errors using the following .htaccess file: Options +MultiViews Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^subdomains/(.*)/(.*) http://$1.example.com/$2 [r=301,nc] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.php [NC,L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www\.)?example\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?([^\.]+)\.example\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%2%{REQUEST_URI}/ -d RewriteRule [^/]$ %{REQUEST_URI}/ [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www\.)?example\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?([^\.]+)\.example\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ clients/%2/$1 [QSA,L] How can I keep this from redirecting to https://admin.example.com/clients/admin/test.php?
