  • Ubuntu 14.04 : Lost my sound randomly tried a few commands and I think I failed

    I lost my sound the other day and I tried to delete pulseaudio then reinstall, then I tried to delete it and install alsa, It did not work and I had to reinstall everything; overall bad idea... now I can't have any sound. Should I do a fresh install? I don't know how to boot an usb drive with GRUB...     My laptop connects to 46" Sony Bravia LED TV using HDMI cable in Windows without any problem. However, it just doesn't work with Ubuntu 12.04. It always says No Signal.   • Cursor running wild, then crashes on an Asus G73sw

    The cursor sometimes goes wild, I get random clicks, the windows are resizing, the cursor disappears. In the worst case, clicks and keyboards are disabled. I've tried the solution given on doc.ubuntu-fr.org and add tu grub : i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT But it didn't work What can I do ? Graphic card : Geforce GTX460M. I've tried loading earlier kernels [3.2.0 ] but that hasn't helped. I've tried playing with alsamixer, unmuting and raising volume, doesn't work I've tried playing with pauvcontrol, doesnt work. Althought, strangely, when i play a song, under output i can see a bar moving implying that something is working, just the sound isn't getting through my speakers. Thus it might be a hardware problem. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling pulsaudio annd alsamixer, doesn't work [maybe made it worse...]. I've heard reverting back to kernel 3.0... works, but i'm reluctant to try that[i dont know much about kernels]. Thank you. Please tell me what other information you need. EDIT: My audio has started working again after another reboot. However this time im not connected to my external audio on startup. I will see if this is the issue next time i'm at home Edit: Connecting to external audio is not the problem.

  • SQL Server Express backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

    Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server. Example: Here are a few headlines about a recent Broadway play: 1 - David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross, Starring Al Pacino, Opens on Broadway 2 - Al Pacino in 'Glengarry Glen Ross': What did the critics think? 3 - Al Pacino earns lackluster reviews for Broadway turn 4 - Theater Review: Glengarry Glen Ross Is Selling Its Stars Hard 5 - Glengarry Glen Ross; Hey, Who Killed the Klieg Lights? Problem: Running a fuzzy-string match over these records will establish some relationships, but not others, even though a human reader could pick them out from context in much larger datasets. How do I find the relationship that suggests #3 is related to #4? Both of them can be easily connected to #1, but not to each other. Is there a (Googlable) name for this kind of data or structure? What kind of algorithm am I looking for? Goal: Given 1,000 headlines, a system that automatically suggests that these 5 items are all probably about the same thing. To be honest, it's been so long since I've programmed I'm at a loss how to properly articulate this problem. (I don't know what I don't know, if that makes sense).   • Why can't I install MVC (1 or 2) with Visual Web Developer Express 2008 RC1?

    Hi all, I have installed VWD 2010 Express and love MVC2. I have an existing ASP.NET 3.5 website that I'd like to redevelop with ASP.NET MVC2 under VWD 2008 with the 3.5 framework (the host only supports .Net 3.5, and Express 2010 doesn't support targeting of .Net framework versions) I am however unable to install MVC2 with VWD 2008. The installer (for 2008 SP1) says it has installed, but the MVC project templates don't show up when I create a new project. I also had this problem originally with MVC1 which is why I gave up at some point and just created it as a normal ASP.NET website. I tried uninstalling and installing VWD 2008, and then installing MVC2, but this didn't solve the problem. Does anyone know why this problem occurs, or how to solve it? Or is there a way to add these templates and the tooling manually?

    When installing SQL Server Express Edition 2008, checklist says "Previous version of Visual Studio 2008" and asked me to upgrade to sp1. Unfortunately sp1 for some reason refuses to install on my brand new pc (Windows 7). So why can't I just bypass this ? Why would SQL Server Express needs VS2008 to install that's insane. SQL Server install used to be as easy as 123, now it has become a nightmare like installing Oracle. Will I have to go back to Windows XP ?

  • How do we achieve "substring-match" under O(n) time?

    I have an assignment that requires reading a huge file of random inputs, for example: Adana Izmir Adnan Menderes Apt Addis Ababa Aden ADIYAMAN ALDAN Amman Marka Intl Airport Adak Island Adelaide Airport ANURADHAPURA Kodiak Apt DALLAS/ADDISON Ardabil ANDREWS AFB etc.. If I specify a search term, the program is supposed to find the lines whereby a substring occurs. For example, if the search term is "uradha", the program is supposed to show ANURADHAPURA. If the search term is "airport", the program is supposed to show Amman Marka Intl Airport, Adelaide Airport A quote from the assignment specs: "You are to program this application taking efficiency into account as though large amounts of data and processing is involved.." I could easily achieve this functionality using a loop but the performance would be O(n). I was thinking of using a trie but it seems to only work if the substring starts from index 0. I was wondering what solutions are there which gives a performance better than O(n)?

    I've been searching the internet and I've come up with a lot of answers of how to store paypal API credentials(Used in Paypal Express Checkout.) They say to hash the credentials using salt. But what I don't understand is how and where to store the salt. If they get access to the salt, can't they just un-hash the credentials? That doesn't seem very secure to me.     A client has a very important database that has not been backed up in 6 months. The PC has promptly failed. The Windows directory is corrupt, and the computer will not boot. It had a Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 database on it. I have access to the hard drive by booting in with an Ubuntu Live CD, but I am not sure if I can find the database.     File sharing on Windows XP has a 5 client limitation. Our solution uses both file sharing and SQL Express. The way I see it, we have 2 options here: -Reload the machine that they want to use as a server with Windows Server, or; -Supply them with a dedicated NAS server, and keep their server machine on Windows XP The second option is the preferred one, for reasons I'm not going to go into. I just need to confirm that the 5 client limitation applies to the file sharing only.

I have 1 Probook 4540s with Windows 7 installed and I can access wlan from it. I tried installing the necessary drivers from HP's website, but it still doesn't seem to be working. I've seen other people with different Probooks having similar problems, but their computers seem to be able to detect and even attempt to connect wlans, while mine doesn't even acknowledge that it has wireless.     hullo folks....this is my first thread here Ok,i first installed ubuntu 11.10 the day it released on my old laptop...internet worked fine without configuring anything so now,i installed ubuntu 11.10 on my newer laptop.But it says ,"device not ready(firmware missing". Windows 7 worked absolutely fine on it i also tried using a Netgear routed i use on my HDTV,but ubuntu doesnt detect it Any Help?
