• StackOverflow WordPress Plugin: Sidebar Widget [closed]

  I used the idea from "StackOverflow badge to show in your blog" from here to develop a small WordPress plugin to show your SO reputation and badges on your WordPress weblog sidebar. It's awfully lacking some graphic design, style, color, etc. I also thought of adding the user avatar, and images for the different badges. But it's working so far, and it's pretty late and I have to get some sleep. But I'll add the stuff I mentioned tomorrow. That was quite an interesting PHP challenge. • Rake migration aborted

  I'm running Ruby 2.0.0 and I installed it correctly. Just loaded up a gem 'devise' and as I tried to migrate my database changes, it wouldn't work: $ rake db:migrate rake aborted! attr_accessible is extracted out of Rails into a gem. Please use new recommended protection model for params(strong_parameters) or add protected_attributes to your Gemfile to use old one. Then, following another Stackoverflow post, they recommended installing Bundler. I did that successfully and got this: $ bundle exec rake db:migrate rake aborted! attr_accessible is extracted out of Rails into a gem. • What strategies are efficient to handle concurrent reads on heterogeneous multi-core architectures?

  I am tackling the challenge of using both the capabilities of a 8 core machine and a high-end GPU (Tesla 10). I have one big input file, one thread for each core, and one for the the GPU handling. The Gpu thread, to be efficient, needs a big number of lines from the input, while the Cpu thread needs only one line to proceed (storing multiple lines in a temp buffer was slower). The file doesn't need to be read sequentially. I am using boost. My strategy is to have a mutex on the input stream and each thread locks - unlocks it. This is not optimal because the gpu thread should have a higher precedence when locking the mutex, being the fastest and the most demanding one. I can come up with different solutions but before rush into implementation I would like to have some guidelines. What approach do you use / recommend ?

It has 2 attributes: a random ID - not helpful an image url - but it is a button, and other buttons use the same image url, not helpful a CSS class - also used by too many other things to be helpful a style - neither helpful nor unique This image is however inside of an anchor tag, but the anchor tab isn't to a page, it just runs some javascript.   I am working on a loan amortization schedule using Access, I have created the following tables: tblMembers - autoMemberID|txtLN|txtFN|etc tblLoans - autoLoanID|numMemberID|etc tblSchedules -autoScheduleID|numLoanID|numPayment#|datDue|dblBegin|...|dblEnd tblPayments - autoPaymID|numLoanID|curAmtPaid|datPaidDate and forms: frmLoans - autoLoanID|etc sbfSchedules - numPaymID|datDue|dblBegin|...|dblEnd sbfPayments - dblAmount|datPaid I have been able to generate the schedule (using DAO recordset) clicking a btnRepaymentSchedule the challenge is when I click a btnAddPayment still on the sbfSchedules, I want the value of the dblEnd field to be the value of the next record dblBegin field! I have tried using dlookup(txtBeginBalance = Dlookup("EndBalance", _ "Schedules","[ScheduleID] = Form![Schedules]![ScheduleID]-1) but there is no effect but if I use txtBeginBalance = txtEndBalance the value of txtEndBalance is assigned to the value of txtBeginBalance of the same record (want next record). Secondly, how can I set focus to the next record if a contro(txtAmountPaid) is not null on clicking the btnAddPayment or assigning the value of a calculation when the control is 0 or null ? Thanks

Removal includes ALL instances of the duplicated character (so if you find 3 n's, all three have to go), and original character order needs to be preserved. Example Input 1: nbHHkRvrXbvkn Example Output 1: RrX Example Input 2: nbHHkRbvnrXbvkn Example Output 2: RrX (the second example removes letters that occur three times; some solutions have failed to account for this) (This is based on my other question where I needed the fastest way to do this in C#, but I think it makes good Code Golf across languages.)

  I'm currently writing an in house coding challenge web application and I am wondering if there is any other security precaution I would need to have other than below java option at runtime. java -Djava.security.manager=default Basically, challenges would be more of single threaded math and algorithm focused. So I would need to enable basic data structure objects and disable any file, sockets, threading or any thing that might be not so important. Based on my quick search turning on security manager as above seems to be a solution but since this is a security related I would like to be sure before it goes alive. Is there anything else I could do more?

• How to generate multiple Alter Scripts in SSMS

  I'm using sql server management studio 2008 to try and generate an alter script for each of my stored procedures in order to save the scripts for each revision. I can easily generate an alter script for each individual procedure, but I'm not trying to go through a hundred stored procedures manually. I know that SSMS has an automated generate scripts function under task, but the only options are create, drop and create, and drop. I cant seem to figure out how to enable alter. I've already searched through many SO articles, as well as a little digging in msdn, and I've come up with nothing. I'm hoping that the fine people of stackoverflow will be up to the challenge. I have a web page where the user clicks on images, those images have to be added together to create only one image and the user must be able to download that group of images as only one... I have no idea how to do this, any tip or info so I can start researching?   I have some Linux code that monitors our hardware by collecting temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds, from the motherboard using inb(), outb(), inl(), etc. low level i/o functions. My challenge is to port that code over to run under Windows as a simple console app. But am puzzled in what functions Win32 (or .NET) provide that allow me permission to access direct memory mapped ports. I don't want to code a system driver either. My Windows tool preference is VS2008. (fyi) Is this possible?

  Hi all, Here is my question... I am using python in Linux to automate an excel. I have finished writing data into excel by using pyexcelerator package. Now comes the real challenge. I have to add another tab to the existing sheet and that tab should contain the macro run in the first tab. All these things should be automated. • Can I change the datsource of report model at runtime

  I've some adhoc reports developed on some report models which are published on Report Server (we're using SSRS 2008). Everything is running well. Now in our production environment we've near about forty (40) customers who have their own database (each have the same table structures and other database objects). Now the challenge is whenever a customer will log into the report server using windows authentication and trying to view those reports we need to get the SQL data from the proper database only. Reports are designed using the report model and each model has a valid data source which is connected to particular database. We can create forty separate data sources each will be connected to specific database. My question is, is there any way through which we can change the report model data source name dynamically or during runtime based on the customer name so that during execution of the report, SSRS would fetch the data from the correct database but not from any other database. Please help me.

I have 2 schema's named dbs1 and dbs2 in the source database (DB1). I have exported both the database schemas in Source Database (DB1) and imported it successfully into the Target Database (DB2). Now I face a challenge in synchronizing these database schemas every time from Source DB (DB1) to Target DB (DB2). Can anyone please help in letting me know how can achieve this synchronization? • Use of bit-torrent for large file download as an alternative to FTP

  The company I work for procures large volumes of data and does this by subscribing to FTP locations. I was wondering if it is possible to download the same using a tracker, the major challenge is authentication of the users IMO. Most ftp servers we subscribe to have a restriction of the number of ftp connection attempts. Does any one here have any experience with this? Any advice is welcome. Edit To clarify, we subscribe to third party vendors and access their ftp location using credentials provided by them. The service is not exclusive to us, they do sell their data to several others. If we could be part of the swarm, the download rates would be pretty high without added penalty. The question is about the possibility of achieving this, so that we can put-forth a proposal in those lines. The vendors obviously wouldn't share data to non-subscribers, so that is a constraint.

• How would I write a virtual CD/DVD burner that would allow programs that burn to write to ISO?

  I want to write an app that will allow a program like iTunes which normally will recognize a DVD/CD burner to recognize a virtual one and then write to it creating an ISO. I would guess to use C/C++... can someone point me in the right direction as to how this can be done? Basically it would be a virtual CD/DVD burner that would output an ISO file to the hard drive. I want to do this for both the usefulness of it as well as the challenge, just need an idea of how to approach it, have no idea how to write virtual hardware.

• Hudson: where to download file and stop specific builds running ?

  I have a file that is generated inside (hudson server) /var/lib/hudson/jobs/jobtitle/1/out.txt I need to fetch this file, but doing a GET request for http://myhudson:8090/job/jobtitle/1/out.txt doesn't actually locate the file. Basically, I have another box that will grab this file from the hudson server. This box will make the out.txt file available for download. Another challenge is the build number directories. How would I be able to use the hudson API to stop or delete the specific builds running ? I am forced to do iterate through all build numbers to send STOP or DELETE api call in php using wget to do the REST API call. • how to prevent database to add slash to quotes

  i know this sounds really common and so trivial but , am having a challenge here. I have a web site with Zend/Doctrine and i use ckeditor for the backend management. after uploading the site i've realized that during edit testing the look and feel of the site is messed up. with the help of firebug, i've seen that there are slashes all over the html. after inline edition, the look and feel came back to normal. There are so many files , i can't think of doing other decoding before outputting data from mysql. What options do i have to solve this problem. the site is up already and i feel a bit unconfortable about this. Can anyone give a hint? thanks

• How to implement a book preview (2 page spread) without using Flash?

  I'm looking into a solution for work, where you have a two page spread of the book to preview. Either side of this, you can hover in the corner to create a pseudo-flip and then click the mouse button to actually turn the page. I know there is many Flash solutions out there, but in this case we cannot use it... So we are looking for a possible solution that can work across all major browsers (yes, including IE6)... I looked a few canvas solutions, but with Google's canvas extension for IE, these will terribly slow. So was thinking about an SVG/VML solution, like Raphael Javascript library. This could be good, but then trying to look into how to code this, without examples, could be a challenge with the time constraint. Is there a solution out there that fits (or almost fits) this problem?

  I'm working on a spoj problem, INTEST. The goal is to specify the number of test cases (n) and a divisor (k), then feed your program n numbers. The program will accept each number on a newline of stdin and after receiving the nth number, will tell you how many were divisible by k. The only challenge in this problem is getting your code to be FAST because it k can be anything up to 10^7 and the test cases can be as high as 10^9. I'm trying to write it in python and having trouble speeding it up. • .NET Framework - When to Upgrade?

  I’m faced with a challenge of leading two (currently) separate .NET development groups with different development strategies. One group is developing on the .NET Framework 2.0 (with maybe a few applications on 3.5). The other group immediately adopts any new framework that comes out, and begins coding any new applications with it (they are running 2.0-4.0 applications). For this last group, applications written in an earlier version than the latest framework do not get upgraded. What is the current school of thought when it comes to a company developing web applications on when to adopt a new framework, and whether to migrate applications built on previous versions to the latest framework or not? Years ago the thought was to wait until the technology became mainstream - but that doesn't seem to apply much now with .NET.
