  • Code golf: the Mandelbrot set

    - by Stefano Borini
    Usual rules for the code golf. Here is an implementation in python as an example from PIL import Image im = Image.new("RGB", (300,300)) for i in xrange(300): print "i = ",i for j in xrange(300): x0 = float( 4.0*float(i-150)/300.0 -1.0) y0 = float( 4.0*float(j-150)/300.0 +0.0) x=0.0 y=0.0 iteration = 0 max_iteration = 1000 while (x*x + y*y <= 4.0 and iteration < max_iteration): xtemp = x*x - y*y + x0 y = 2.0*x*y+y0 x = xtemp iteration += 1 if iteration == max_iteration: value = 255 else: value = iteration*10 % 255 print value im.putpixel( (i,j), (value, value, value)) im.save("image.png", "PNG") The result should look like this Use of an image library is allowed. Alternatively, you can use ASCII art. This code does the same for i in xrange(40): line = [] for j in xrange(80): x0 = float( 4.0*float(i-20)/40.0 -1.0) y0 = float( 4.0*float(j-40)/80.0 +0.0) x=0.0 y=0.0 iteration = 0 max_iteration = 1000 while (x*x + y*y <= 4.0 and iteration < max_iteration): xtemp = x*x - y*y + x0 y = 2.0*x*y+y0 x = xtemp iteration += 1 if iteration == max_iteration: line.append(" ") else: line.append("*") print "".join(line) The result ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** **************************************** *************************************** *************************************** ************************************** ************************************* ************************************ ************************************ *********************************** *********************************** ********************************** ************************************ *********************************** ************************************* ************************************ *********************************** ********************************** ******************************** ******************************* **************************** *************************** ***************************** **************************** **************************** *************************** ************************ * * *********************** *********************** * * ********************** ******************** ******* ******* ******************* **************************** *************************** ****************************** ***************************** ***************************** * * * **************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ********************************************************************************

  • Why is there no code-folding in emacs ?

    - by Pierre
There are several questions on SO about how to get code folding in emacs, without having to add any special characters like "markers" in the comments for example. Someone said that there was "no perfect solution." It seems that it could be done by parsing the source of the program being written and look for matching parenthesis or bracket, or to do it based on indentation. You could also use a combination of scripts that use different methods. So why is it commonly accepted that there is no "perfect" and straightforward way to get code-folding in emac? Is there something in emacs or its architecture that makes it hard to program? If it were easy, after so many years of smart people using emacs you would think that someone would have wrote it.

  • A CSS code Or Any code to put text (saved in other server) into blogspot blog..???

    - by Nok Imchen
I have a blog in blogspot. Step (1). Whenever any visitor visit my blogspot blog through Google, the search search string is tracked through a javascript and the search string is saved in another server (say serverX) Step (2). Now, when another visitor (human/Google Bot/Any downloader/etc..) visits my blog, he/she should be able to see the search string (Saved in ServerX) in my blog (anywhere, be it content or at the bottom of the blog....it doesn't matter) Well, I can code the javascript and can also write a php code to save the search string... but i've absolutely NO idea how to do the step (2) Please tell me how to do Step 2... Thanking you in anticipation.

  • How come you cannot catch Code Contract exceptions?

    - by Finglas
System.Diagnostics.Contracts.ContractException is not accessiable in my test project. Note this code is purely myself messing around with my shiney new copy of Visual Studio, but I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. I'm using the professional edition of VS, therefore I do not have static checking. In order to still use code contracts (which I like) I figured the only way my method can work is to catch the exception that is thrown at runtime, but I'm not finding this possible. TestMethod [TestMethod, ExpectedException(typeof(System.Diagnostics.Contracts.ContractException))] public void returning_a_value_less_than_one_throws_exception() { var person = new Person(); person.Number(); } Method public int Number() { Contract.Ensures(Contract.Result<int>() >= 0); return -1; } Error Error 1 'System.Diagnostics.Contracts.ContractException' is inaccessible due to its protection level.

  • Source code comparison app that doesn't require files?

    - by ZenBlender
I'm looking for an easy-to-use, free source code comparison app for Windows, which will highlight differences side-by-side between two pieces of source code. Some apps get close to what I want, but are too restrictive by requiring you load in entire files and compare them in their entirety. Sometimes I just want to compare a section of my file, such as a single function, which may be in totally different locations in the two versions I'd be comparing, making it hard to find in both panes in large files. Basically, I'd like to be able to simply edit/copy/paste the content in both panes rather than have the restriction of using files. That way I can copy and paste one function into one pane and another into the other, editing/re-ordering as necessary. (Note that I realize there are other comparison app recommendation threads out there, but I'm having a hard time finding a free app that isn't a strict file-to-file comparison app) Thanks for any pointers or links, thanks!

  • Code golf: Reverse Polish notation (postfix) evaluator

    - by Dario
After having had code-golf contests on ordinary mathematical expressions, I just thought it would also be quite interesting how short an evaluation function for postfix notation (RPN) can be. Examples for RPN: 1 2 + == 3 1 2 + 3 * == 9 0 1 2 3 + + - 2 6 * + 3 / 1 - == 1 3 2 / 2.0 + == 3.5 To make things shorter, only +, -, * and /, all just in their binary version, must be supported. Operators/Operands are delimited by one space, divsions by zero don't have to be handled. The resulting code should be a function that takes the postfix string as input and returns the resulting number.

  • Deploy maven generated site on Google Code svn?

    - by xamde
Using a google code svn as a basic maven repository is easy. However, using mvn site:deploy efficiently on google code seems hard. So far, I found only these solutions: * Deploy to a local file:/// and use a PERL script to delete the old and copy the new * Use wagen-svn to deploy. This is very slow (hours!) and does not delete old files * Plus all mime-types are wrong I am looking for a solution that allows new developers in my projects to check out the current source and just use it, without requiring to install PERL or learn weird steps to perform or wait hours.

  • Modify 3rd party code in subversion

    - by Alex
I use a script for my homepage but I'd like to localize it. Furthermore the CSS uses images from a special folder which does not fit to my folder hierarchy. Because I don't want to adopt these paths and settings I'll have to modify the original sources. Currently my repository looks like this: /3rdParty /CompanyA /CompanyAProduct1 /v1_0 /v1_1 /MyProductA /branches /tags /trunk /import /export /source Via svn:externals I map all stuff I need (lib, dll, or code) into the import folder. Now I'd like to modify the files in the import folder but this will modify the original sources, too (as far as I know). What is the best solution to have the modified version in my import folder but the original sources remain unaffected? Should I make a branch of the 3rd party code? But then I have to update the original sources for every new release. Thanks!

  • Python Closures Example Code

    - by user336527
I am learning Python using "Dive Into Python 3" book. I like it, but I don't understand the example used to introduce Closures in Section 6.5. I mean, I see how it works, and I think it's really cool. But I don't see any real benefit: it seems to me the same result could be achieved by simply reading in the rules file line by line in a loop, and doing search / replace for each line read. Could someone help me to: either understand why using closures in this example improves the code (e.g., easier to maintain, extend, reuse, or debug?) or suggest a source of some other real-life code examples where closures really shine? Thank you!

  • How do I reuse code in Zend Framework

    - by Mario
I am working on a web application which requires the user to login before they see or do anything. No part of this app should be accessible without being logged in. (Except of course, the login controller) Currently I am using sessions to handle the authentication and I have put code in each controller in the init() function to check if their session is valid. This was a temporary workaround, but it is redundant and inefficient. I would like my init() function to be similar to the following, but I am not sure how to achieve it: public function init() { // If user not logged in redirect to login controller $myLibrary = Zend_Library_MyLibrary(); $myLibrary->CheckAuth(); } So my question really has two parts: Where is the best place to store code that will be used in multiple controllers? How do I then call that function from a controller? Thanks.

  • Code generating SOAP Web Service Proxy objects yourself - C#/.NET 3.5/T4

    - by tyndall
Is there a framework or code already available that will give me more control over the code that gets generated based off my web references? I'm working at a new company. And the Web Services Proxies are all self contained in their own assembly. I would really rather generate this whole project. Every time they change something on the Services-side (Java) the WSDL references have to be dropped and re-added. (I can't figure out what those guys are doing on their end that messes with the WSDL bad enough that this needs to be done so much) Their are 10 of these references. I'd rather codegen the whole thing at compile time. Every time. What are my options?

  • Netbeans source code formatting

    - by lucky
I am Netbeans user for PHP. I have installed Netbeans IDE 6.8. Everything is working well. There is an option in SOURCE -- FORMAT. This action formats the code properly. It is quite handy. Unfortunately, this functionality is not working for me. Whenever some php code comes in between, it additionally adding some empty rows in between and making it more untidy. Can you please help to set up the same functionality. Restore the settings to default.

  • Zero code coverage with cobertura 1.9.2 but tests are working

    - by eraonel
I run the code coverage target: <junit fork="yes" dir="${basedir}" failureProperty="test.failed"> <!-- Note the classpath order: instrumented classes are before the original (uninstrumented) classes. This is important. --> <classpath path="${instrumented.dir}" /> <classpath path="${classes.dir}" /> <classpath refid="classpath" /> <!-- The instrumented classes reference classes used by the Cobertura runtime, so Cobertura and its dependencies must be on your classpath. --> <classpath refid="cobertura.classpath" /> <formatter type="xml" /> <!--<test name="${testcase}" todir="${reports.xml.dir}" if="testcase" />--> <batchtest fork="yes" todir="${reports.xml.dir}"> <fileset dir="${classes.dir}"> <include name="**/generated/AllTests.class" /> </fileset> </batchtest> </junit> <junitreport todir="${reports.xml.dir}"> <fileset dir="${reports.xml.dir}"> <include name="TEST-*.xml" /> </fileset> <report format="frames" todir="${reports.html.dir}" /> </junitreport> Then I get the following output ( when using fork="true"): java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:585) at net.sourceforge.cobertura.util.FileLocker.lock(FileLocker.java:124) at net.sourceforge.cobertura.coveragedata.ProjectData.saveGlobalProjectData(ProjectData.java:331) at net.sourceforge.cobertura.coveragedata.SaveTimer.run(SaveTimer.java:31) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595) Caused by: java.io.IOException: No locks available at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.lock0(Native Method) at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.lock(FileChannelImpl.java:784) at java.nio.channels.FileChannel.lock(FileChannel.java:865) ... 8 more --------------------------------------- Unable to get lock on /vobs/rnc/rrt/roam2/roamSs/RoamMao_swb/RoamMao_bldu/ant_build/cobertura.ser.lock: null This is known to happen on Linux kernel 2.6.20. Make sure cobertura.jar is in the root classpath of the jvm process running the instrumented code. If the instrumented code is running in a web server, this means cobertura.jar should be in the web server's lib directory. Don't put multiple copies of cobertura.jar in different WEB-INF/lib directories. Only one classloader should load cobertura. It should be the root classloader. I am using Ant 1.7.0 and cobertura 1.9.2. Any ideas why there is no coverage? Test run ok as I see in my target. I have tried to switch java versions ( 1.5.0_06 and 1.6.0_10) but no difference.

  • Automated Java to Scala source code conversion?

    - by Alex R
(Yes I know I can call Java code from Scala; but that is pointless; I want to DELETE the Java code, not keep it around and have to look at it and maintain it forever!) Are there any utilities out there to convert Java source to Scala source? I believe theoretically it should be possible to accomplish with minimal lossage. I have found this but it seems inactive, probably buggy/incomplete... http://sourceforge.net/projects/java2scala/ Any alternatives?

  • Django - Tips to avoid repeating code in views

    - by D Roddis
I'm moving from a PHP background into Django development via python, mostly for the sake of tackling a MVC (or MVT) that I feel makes the most sense, although in this pattern I've started to notice a lot of repeated code in my views. For example, when logged in I have information regarding the user that I would like to appear on every page, although when using render_to_response and in every view this is required I have to grab the information and pass it to the render_to_response function. I'm wondering what would be the most efficient way to cut down on the duplicate code which would in essence be required in all views in a particular app. Thanks in advance.

  • Lines-of-code counting for many C# solutions

    - by Eric
I am currently researching a solution for counting lines of code in C#. I pretty much need a combination of the following two tools: http://richnewman.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/c-and-vbnet-line-count-utility/ http://www.locmetrics.com/index.html My problem is that I need to recursively scan a folder containing a lot of visual studio solutions. So can't really use the first tool without any major work on its code, as it's only able to scan a single solution at a time. But I also need to split the results for each solution, preferably even the contained projects. This disqualifies the second tool I found. I also found NDepend which suffers from the same problem. Do you know of any free tools that do what I need? I am unable to find anything suitable.

  • Any Code Review Communities out there?

    - by willcodejavaforfood
After reading this post I had a look around for 'code review' communities, but I did not really find one. There were a few but they were usually for a very specific technology and not just a programming language specific one. Never really thought of it before, but there sure is a lot of code out there that could benefit from a review. Not only is it a really good way to pick up new skills from your peers (or superiors), but it will also improve quality. Does anyone know of one?
