    Can anyone help me , I'm really struggling to connect to Windows shares via Nautilus using the Connect to server command - anyone know the correct Syntax to use for user names and domain names or work groups? Its driving me nuts, I would fully use Ubuntu for work if I could make it connect to my Windows 2003/2008/ Windows 7 shares/ File servers seamlessly. How do you do it? I have been googling my a$%S off but can't work it out I have no issues with SSH or FTP

  • Help with DB Structure, vOD site

    I have a video on demand style site that hosts series of videos under different modules. However with the way I have designed the database it is proving to be very slow. I have asked this question before and someone suggested indexing, but i cannot seem to get my head around it. But I would like someone to help with the structure of the database here to see if it can be improved. The core table is Videos: ID bigint(20) (primary key, auto-increment) pID text airdate text title text subject mediumtext url mediumtext mID int(11) vID int(11) sID int(11) pID is a unique 5 digit string to each video that is a shorthand identifier. Airdate is the TS, (stored in text format, right there maybe I should change that to TIMESTAMP AUTO UPDATE), title is self explanatory, subject is self explanatory, url is the hard link on the site to the video, mID is joined to another table for the module title, vID is joined to another table for the language of the video, (english, russian, etc) and sID is the summary for the module, a paragraph stored in an external database. The slowest part of the website is the logging part of it. I store the data in another table called 'Hits': id mediumint(10) (primary key, auto-increment) progID text ts int(10) Again, here (this was all made a while ago) but my Timestamp (ts) is an INT instead of ON UPDATE CURRENT TIMESTAMP, which I guess it should be. However This table is now 47,492 rows long and the script that I wrote to process it is very very slow, so slow in fact that it times out. A row is added to this table each time a user clicks 'Play' on the website and then so the progID is the same as the pID, and it logs the php time() timestamp in ts. Basically I load the entire database of 'Hits' into an array and count the hits in each day using the TS column. I am guessing (i'm quite slow at all this, but I had no idea this would happen when I built the thing) that this is possibly the worst way to go about this. So my questions are as follows: Is there a better way of structuring the 'Videos' table, is so, what do you suggest? Is there a better way of structuring 'hits', if so, please help/tell me! Or is it the fact that my tables are fine and the PHP coding is crappy?

    Might be a really easy problem to fix, but it the solution is eluding me! I'm using Fluent NHibernate 1.0 RTM (and using NHibernate bins that ships with it). I'm trying to map my entities and cannot use the WithTable() method. It's not available in Intelligence and VS doesn't suggest any namespaces to reference.     A common 'Perlism' is generating a list as something to loop over in this form: for($str=~/./g) { print "the next character from \"$str\"=$_\n"; } In this case the global match regex returns a list that is one character in turn from the string $str, and assigns that value to $_ Instead of a regex, split can be used in the same way or 'a'..'z', map, etc. I am investigating unpack to generate a field by field interpretation of a string. I have always found unpack to be less straightforward to the way my brain works, and I have never really dug that deeply into it. As a simple case, I want to generate a list that is one character in each element from a string using unpack (yes -- I know I can do it with split(//,$str) and /./g but I really want to see if unpack can be used this way...) Obviously, I can use a field list for unpack that is unpack("A1" x length($str), $str) but is there some other way that kinda looks like globbing? ie, can I call unpack(some_format,$str) either in list context or in a loop such that unpack will return the next group of character in the format group until $str is exausted?     When opening a connection to SQL Server 2005 from our web app, we occasionally see this error: "Impersonate Session Security Context" cannot be called in this batch because a simultaneous batch has called it. We use MARS and connection pooling. The exception originates from the following piece of code: protected SqlConnection Open() { SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(); connection.ConnectionString = m_ConnectionString; if (connection != null) { try { connection.Open(); if (m_ExecuteAsUserName != null) { string sql = Format("EXECUTE AS LOGIN = {0};", m_ExecuteAsUserName); ExecuteCommand(connection, sql); } } catch (Exception exception) { connection.Close(); connection = null; } } return connection; } I found an MS Connect article which suggests that the error is caused when a previous command has not yet terminated before the EXECUTE AS LOGIN command is sent. Yet how can this be if the connection has only just been opened? Could this be something to do with connection pooling interacting strangely with MARS? UPDATE: For the short-term we have implemented a workaround by clearing out the connection pool whenever this happens, to get rid of the bad connection, as it otherwise keeps getting handed back to various users. (Not too bad as this only happens a couple of times a day.) But if anyone has any further ideas, we are still looking out for a real solution...
