  • Why doesn't my form post when I disable the submit button to prevent double clicking?

    - by John MacIntyre
    Like every other web developer on the planet, I have an issue with users double clicking the submit button on my forms. My understanding is that the conventional way to handle this issue, is to disable the button immediately after the first click, however when I do this, it doesn't post. I did do some research on this, god knows there's enough information, but other questions like Disable button on form submission, disabling the button appears to work. The original poster of Disable button after submit appears to have had the same problem as me, but there is no mention on how/if he resolved it. Here's some code on how to repeat it (tested in IE8 Beta2, but had same problem in IE7) My aspx code <%@ Page Language="C#" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function btn_onClick() { var chk = document.getElementById("chk"); if(chk.checked) { var btn = document.getElementById("btn"); btn.disabled = true; } } </script> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:Literal ID="lit" Text="--:--:--" runat="server" /> <br /> <asp:Button ID="btn" Text="Submit" runat="server" /> <br /> <input type="checkbox" id="chk" />Disable button on first click </form> </body> </html> My cs code using System; public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { base.OnInit(e); btn.Click += new EventHandler(btn_Click); btn.OnClientClick = "btn_onClick();"; } void btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { lit.Text = DateTime.Now.ToString("HH:mm:ss"); } } Notice that when you click the button, a postback occurs, and the time is updated. But when you check the check box, the next time you click the button, the button is disabled (as expected), but never does the postback. WHAT THE HECK AM I MISSING HERE??? Thanks in advance.

  • Using a variable name in XMLHttpRequest

    - by Paul
    Hi All, I am using jQuery and trying to load a variable in place of a named xml file. My Code: $(document).ready(function() { // bind 'myForm' and provide a simple callback function $('#theForm').ajaxForm(function(responseXML2) { var myxml = responseXML2; alert(responseXML2); displayResult(); }); }); function loadXMLDoc(dname) { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { alert("loading xmlhttprequest"); xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { alert("loading activeX"); xhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } alert("bottom load"); xhttp.open("GET",dname,false); xhttp.send(); return xhttp.responseXML; } function displayResult() { alert("setting vars"); alert("displayResult called"); //xml=loadXMLDoc(responseXML2); //tried this and the line below, among others xml=responseXML2; alert("xmlDocLoaded"); xsl=loadXMLDoc("xslt-test.xsl"); alert("XSLloaded"); // code for IE if (window.ActiveXObject) { alert("IE"); ex=xml.transformNode(xsl); document.getElementById("ieiresponse").innerHTML=ex; } // code for Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, etc. else if (document.implementation && document.implementation.createDocument) { alert("notIE"); xsltProcessor=new XSLTProcessor(); xsltProcessor.importStylesheet(xsl); resultDocument = xsltProcessor.transformToFragment(xml,document); document.getElementById("ieiresponse").appendChild(resultDocument); } } In the code above I want to have: //xml=loadXMLDoc(responseXML2); //tried this and the line below, among others xml=responseXML2; instead of a named file: xsl=loadXMLDoc("example.xml"); When I run through the code, it works if I name the file, but when I use the variable, (which does show up in alerts, so is being pulled), it stops the code at the above line (placing the variable as the xml file) Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

  • jquery How to refresh pages when resize happens?

    - by Maju
    I have some indicator displays settings which float above a menu. Problem is when someone resizes the 'indicators stays on the same place', the page needs to 'refreshed to position correctly'. How to have a page refresh by itself when it detects the page is being resized? or is there any better way to do it? jQuery function findPosY(b) { var a = 0; if (b.offsetParent) { while (1) { a += b.offsetTop; if (!b.offsetParent) { break } b = b.offsetParent } } else { if (b.y) { a += b.y } } return a } function findPosX(b) { var a = 0; if (b.offsetParent) { while (1) { a += b.offsetLeft; if (!b.offsetParent) { break } b = b.offsetParent } } else { if (b.x) { a += b.x } } return a } function setNotifications() { $("#shortcut_notifications span").each(function () { if ($(this).attr("rel") != "") { target = $(this).attr("rel"); if ($("#" + target).length > 0) { var a = findPosY(document.getElementById(target)); var b = findPosX(document.getElementById(target)); $(this).css("top", a - 31 + "px");//-24 $(this).css("left", b + 83 + "px")//+60 } } }); $("#shortcut_notifications").css("display", "block") } CSS #shortcut_notifications { display:none; } .notification { color:#fff; font-weight:700; text-shadow:1px 0 0 #333; background:transparent url(../images/bg_notification.png) no-repeat center; position: absolute;/*absolute*/ width:37px;/*37*/ height:37px; display:block; text-align:center; padding-top:17px; color:#ffffff; } #nav li { display:block; float:right; padding:19px 21px; text-align: left; position:relative; height:24px; font-size:16px; } HTML <li class="settings"><a class="settings" href="#">Settings</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Game Settings</a></li> <li><a href="#">Transactions </a></li> </ul> </li>

  • Weird javascript problem...

    - by Silvio Iannone
    Hi there, i'm building a page that is dinamically loaded with ajax. This is what the '$.get' jQuery function calls (this is located on an external HTML page): <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('button').sb_animateButton(); $('input').sb_animateInput(); $('#settings_security_error').hide(); }); function check_passwords(password, password_confirm) { $('#settings_security_error').show(); alert('I\'m in funcion!'); // This works... if(password.length < 4) // ... this doesn't { $('#settings_security_error').innerHTML = 'Password too short'; } else { password = hex_md5(password); password_confirm = hex_md5(password_confirm); $.get('/engine/ajax/check_password.php?password=' + password + '$password_confirm=' + password_confirm, {language: "php", version: 5}, function(result) { $('#settings_security_error').innerHTML = result; }, 'html'); } } </script> <div class="title">Security</div> <table class="sub_container"> <tr> <td><label>Old password</label></td> <td class="td_input"><input type="password" name="old_password"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td><label>New password</label></td> <td class="td_input"><input type="password" name="new_password" id="settings_security_new_password" onkeyup="check_passwords(this.value, getElementById('settings_security_password_confirm').value)"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td><label>Confirm password</label></td> <td class="td_input"><input type="password" name="new_password_confirm" id="settings_security_password_confirm" onkeyup="check_passwords(getElementById('settings_security_new_password').value, this.value)"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="td_error" id="settings_security_error"></td> </tr> </table> And this is where the external HTML is placed...: <div id="settings_appearance"> </div> ... from this javascript snippet: function get_page_content(page, target_id) { $.get('engine/ajax/get_page_content.php?page=' + page, null, function(result) { $("#"+target_id).html(result); // Or whatever you need to insert the result }, 'html'); } Well... the problem is that the javascript in the first snippet is executed when it's loaded by the $.get function, but i still can't understand the reason why when i type into the input boxes nothing happen. It should write the output of the javascript function check_passwords(password, password_confirm) in <td class="td_error" id="settings_security_error"></td>. Thanks for helping. Silvio

  • displaying the values in textbox based on AJAX fetched entries

    - by Anurag
    hello, I've a table in which addition rows can be generatred as per the user need by clicking a javascript function. Each row has a drop down list, and based on the values of this an AJAX script fetchs some values which has to be displayed in corresponding textfields of the same row.. here is the code for HTML.. <td><div align="center"> <label> <select name="gcno1" id="gcno1" onchange="fetch_gc(this)"> <option value="0">NIL</option> <option value="2">1</option> <?php while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <option value="<?php echo $row[0]; ?>"><?php echo $row[0]; ?></option> <?php }?> </select> </label> </div></td> <td><div align="center"><input name="date1" id="date1" type="text" size="10" /> </div></td> and here is the AJAX which I'm writing... xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); var value=encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById('gcno1').value); var parameters="param1="+value; xmlhttp.open("POST", 'fetch_gc.php', true); xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); xmlhttp.send(parameters); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function(){ if(xmlhttp.readyState == 4 && xmlhttp.status == 200) { var detail=xmlhttp.responseText.split('+'); alert(detail[0]); document.getElementsByName('date1').value=String(detail[0]); alert("life " + document.getElementById('gcno1').value); } } The alert inside the AJAX shows the correct response text, detail[0] but is unable to put the value in corresponding textbox i.e. with name 'gcno1'......   • Selecting the contents of an ASP.NET TextBox in an UpdatePanel after a partial page postback

    - by Scott Mitchell
    I am having problems selecting the text within a TextBox in an UpdatePanel. Consider a very simple page that contains a single UpdatePanel. Within that UpdatePanel there are two Web controls: A DropDownList with three statically-defined list items, whose AutoPostBack property is set to True, and A TextBox Web control The DropDownList has a server-side event handler for its SelectedIndexChanged event, and in that event handler there's two lines of code: TextBox1.Text = "Whatever"; ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, this.GetType(), "Select-" + TextBox1.ClientID, string.Format("document.getElementById('{0}').select();", TextBox1.ClientID), true); The idea is that whenever a user chooses and item from the DropDownList there is a partial page postback, at which point the TextBox's Text property is set and selected (via the injected JavaScript). Unfortunately, this doesn't work as-is. (I have also tried putting the script in the pageLoad function with no luck, as in: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(..., "function pageLoad() { ... my script ... }");) What happens is the code runs, but something else on the page receives focus at the conclusion of the partial page postback, causing the TextBox's text to be unselected. I can "fix" this by using JavaScript's setTimeout to delay the execution of my JavaScript code. For instance, if I update the emitted JavaScript to the following: setTimeout("document.getElementById('{0}').select();", 111); It "works." I put works in quotes because it works for this simple page on my computer. In a more complex page on a slower computer with more markup getting passed between the client and server on the partial page postback, I have to up the timeout to over a second to get it to work. I would hope that there is a more foolproof way to achieve this. Rather than saying, "Delay for X milliseconds," it would be ideal to say, "Run this when you're not going to steal the focus." What's perplexing is that the .Focus() method works beautifully. That is, if I scrap my JavaScript and replace it with a call to TextBox1.Focus(); then the TextBox receives focus (although the text is not selected). I've examined the contents of MicrosoftAjaxWebForms.js and see that the focus is set after the registered scripts run, but I'm my JavaScript skills are not strong enough to decode what all is happening here and why the selected text is unselected between the time it is selected and the end of the partial page postback. I've also tried using Firebug's JavaScript debugger and see that when my script runs the TextBox's text is selected. As I continue to step through it the text remains selected, but then after stepping off the last line of script (apparently) it all of the sudden gets unselected. Any ideas? I am pulling my hair out. Thanks in advance...

  • Intellisense for Javascript - not correct in Visual Studio 2010

    - by Finglas
    var obj = document.getElementById("header"); Given the above code snippet, I should be able to wire event handlers. For example, I can wire onMouseDown to the mouse down event, the issue is that Visual Studio does not display this in the Intellisense. I've tried this on both a standalone Javascript file, as well as an MVC project to no luck. Is there anything I'm doing wrong - or is there a way to resolve this?

  • JSon/Jquery request with a setTimeout always returns a "null" result? (for Twitter Search API)

    - by supermogx
    I make a call to the twitter API. 100 posts are retreived + a properties that tells me what the next page to call is. So I wait 5 sec. and call that next page, but the JSon results in the callback function is always null the second time... I think it's probably a JQuery problem... Here's a complete sample HTML code : <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="./jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script> function test() { var rqUrl = "http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23apple+OR+%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=?" callTwitterSearchApi(rqUrl); } function callTwitterSearchApi(tiwtterRequestUrl) { debug("request to twitter : " + tiwtterRequestUrl); // *** FIRST CALL WORKS GREAT... *** $.getJSON(tiwtterRequestUrl, callTwitterSearchApi_callback); } function callTwitterSearchApi_callback(jsonPostsResults) { debug("callback"); if (jsonPostsResults == null) { debug("Why is jsonPostsResults null? If I copy paste the request inside a browser, I get something =("); return; } if (jsonPostsResults.error != undefined && jsonPostsResults.error != "") { debug("twitter api error"); } var posts = new Array(); $(jsonPostsResults.results).each(function() { posts.push(this); }); debug("Number of posts : " + posts.length); if (jsonPostsResults.next_page != undefined && jsonPostsResults.next_page.trim() != "") { debug("calling next request in 5 sec..."); // *** WHEN COMMING BACK FROM THAT LINE, JSON RESULTS == NULL?! **** setTimeout("callTwitterSearchApi(\"http://search.twitter.com/search.json" + jsonPostsResults.next_page + "\")", 5000); } } function debug(message) { document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML = message + "\n" + document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML; } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="test();" value="test" /><br /> <textarea id="debug" cols="80" rows="20"></textarea> </body> </html> at line 18, at the second callback (back from the setTimeout), the parameter "jsonPostsResults" is always returned as null... I have no idea why. If I copy paste that 2nd request in a browser, it returns 100 results. Anybody had a problem like that with the Ajax JQuery functions when calling it with a setTimeout?
