  • Changing hibernate batch size programatically

    Hello, Is possible to change hibernate.jdbc.batch_size programmatically? I understand hibernate.jdbc.batch_size is a application level parameter, wanted to know if i can use it specifically for certain HQL inserts and not others. I would change the code only for those HQL inserts The big picture is that i need to introduce batch inserts to make the web application performant in some scenarios, but i do not want to jeopardize the normal inserts which work right now. Any pointers would help thanks Sameer

    Hi, I'm looking to setup Hibernate with distributed cache where I have one application writing to the DB and another one reading from the DB. Is there an easy way to notify the reading application when the writing one has written through Hibernate? The distributed cache will invalidate the cache but I need the reading application to know a change has been made to refresh its data immediately. Thanks, D

I am sure that quite a few people love the framework but I am unclear on the advantages and disadvantages. What are the advantages and disadvantages of lazy loading, and are there other features to Hibernate? Is there anything that makes a framework like this easier to use (best practices, other frameworks, etc)?

  • Hibernate query cache automatically refreshed on external update?

    I'm creating a service that has read-only access to the database. I have a query cache and a second level cache enabled (READ_ONLY mode) in Hibernate to speed up the service, as the tables being accessed change rarely. My question is, if someone goes into the DB and changes the tables manually (i.e. outside of Hibernate), does the cache recognize automatically that it needs to be cleared? Is there a time limit on the cache?

  • Virtual PC: Cannot restore machine from hibernate

    I have two virtual machines set up from Virtual PC on Windows 7 Professional: Windows XP Mode and Xubuntu. Last time I used them (last month or so), I had closed them by hibernating. Evidently, I have meanwhile downloaded a Windows Update affecting VPC and now receive the following error in restoring either of them from hibernation: 'Xubuntu' could not be restored because of either host processor type mismatch or lack of hardware-assisted virtualization support in the system. I've been through the virtual machine's settings, and there's nowhere an option to simply reboot it. (Virtualization is not the problem, as I can create a new virtual machine without any problems.) Any ideas?

The column names in the database table exactly match the xml field names.

  • Windows 7 Standy/Hibernate Freeze/Lockup

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on a MSI U100 Netbook which often experiences a lockup or freeze whilst hibernating or shutting down. I have a friend with an Asus netbook running Windows 7 who has experienced the same issue. This happens to me perhaps 1-2 times a week, and is frustrating as hell because it will just sit there running flat out (the fan goes to max after a while) until the battery dies if I don't notice it first. Just wondering if anyone has had any similar issues or might be able to point me in the right direction. The freeze occurs when the screen has faded to black. The HDD light flickers for a few moments then just sticks on solid. I haven't been able to isolate any apps which may be causing this either. It will be fine one standby, and lock up the next with no new apps open. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Cheers, Kyle

    I have a similar question to this one. Only my context is the 15" Retina MacBook Pro - and Windows 8. I have just the original Mac OS X Mountain Lion on there, then Windows 8 via Bootcamp. no rEFIt installed. (I just press ALT every time I restart windows, actually as a security measure to stop tech-unsavvy thugs, who, if the laptop is stolen, think it's only a mac and don't discover my Windows as quickly as they would've, and by that time I remotely activate various anti-theft mac apps and nab them that way). SO: like the related question asks, why isn't it behaving like it should? The Windows 7 FAQ states: Will sleep eventually drain my laptop battery? If your laptop battery charge gets critically low while the computer is asleep, Windows automatically puts the laptop into hibernation mode. But this is just not happening - on my rMBP Windows 8. It seems EVERY time I set the laptop to sleep (when it reaches 10%), then arriving home and plugging it in and hoping to simply resume my work, it does NOT save the session to disk and I lose ALL my work. Who's fault is it? Win 8's (a bug, grr)? Or Apple's EFI system (maybe fixable via editing EFI options/do I have to install refit to make it work perhaps?) Or maybe changing windows power options can somehow fix the problem? Thanks for your help.

    Hi, Im trying to construct a powershell script that uses some XML. I have a XML document where I try to add some values with email addresses. The finished xml document should have this format: (I'm only showing the relevant part of the xml here) <emailAddresses> <value>[email protected]</value> <value>[email protected]</value> <value>[email protected]</value> </emailAddresses> SO, in powershell I try to do this as a test, which fails: $newNumber = [xml] '<value>555-1215</value>' $newNode = $Request2.ImportNode($newNumber.value, $true) $emailnode.AppendChild($newNode) After some reading, I have figured out that if I do this, it suceeds: $newNumber = [xml] '<value name="flubber">555-1215</value>' $newNode = $Request2.ImportNode($newNumber.value, $true) $emailnode.AppendChild($newNode) So, I am stuck. I'm starting to wonder if I should use another function instead of importnode when I have several keys with the same name but different values. As you guys probably have figured out by now, i'm not an expert in xml. ANy help appreciated!

  • Dell Inspiron/Windows Vista sleep/hibernate issue

    When I hit the sleep button in Windows the computer looks like it's going into Sleep mode but a few seconds later it's restarted, and stops with this error message: internal hard disk drive not found To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive. No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics. The computer is running Windows Vista (SP2) and I have installed all available Windows Updates and the latest manufacturer drivers. I have already tried to reseated the drive, ran the onboard diagnostics and there were no errors. I have changed the power settings for all devices where it's available so that they are not allowed to wake up the computer. Any ideas?

  • Help me find the offending process waking my Windows 7 PC from hibernate every night

    Recently my Windows 7 64-bit PC has started waking every night from hibernation around 3:30am. I have done the following to try and figure out what is causing the issue with no luck: Examined the Windows Event logs. Nothing is noted Ran powercfg -lastwake and that reports nothing c:\powercfg -lastwake Wake History Count - 1 Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 0 Ran powercfg to find what devices are armed for wake. Interestingly, this reports two items (I've already unchecked the "Allow this device to wake the computer" in device manager): The keyboard and something called the "eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR)". This is a desktop PC and it does not have an Infrared received, so I'm not sure what that device is. Suffice to say it does not have the option to "Allow device to wake..." available in Device Manager. C:\powercfg -devicequery wake_armed eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) HID Keyboard Device My next step is to disable the Keyboard from wake, but I'm not convined that's the problem. This is on a Dell XPS435 if that helps anyone.

  • Update in grub.cfg file for loading new kernel image in Ubuntu 11.04

    I am new to Linux. I am compiling Linux kernel (ver: 2.6.34.12) in gcc in traditional manner in VMware machine in Ubuntu (kernel version - 2.6.38-8-generic) 11.04 version. I am unable to find, where to update about newly compiled kernel in the grub.cfg file. I updated the newly created image version name in the existing image. Then VMware didn't able to load new kernel. I have searched in internet but I didn't find. So anyone can help me, to update in the grub.cfg and to successfully load new kernel. Few things about what I have done: Make bzImage to create image file. Make modules_install && make install to install modules and then sudo mkinitramfs -o initramfs.img-2.6.34 2.6.34. Then sudo gedit grub.cfg. In that at the mementry I updated the version of vmlinuz and initrd from 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.34.12. This is I have done.

I have never tried JBoss before. Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • Parsing concatenated, non-delimited XML messages from TCP-stream using C#

    I am trying to parse XML messages which are send to my C# application over TCP. Unfortunately, the protocol can not be changed and the XML messages are not delimited and no length prefix is used. Moreover the character encoding is not fixed but each message starts with an XML declaration <?xml>. The question is, how can i read one XML message at a time, using C#. Up to now, I tried to read the data from the TCP stream into a byte array and use it through a MemoryStream. The problem is, the buffer might contain more than one XML messages or the first message may be incomplete. In these cases, I get an exception when trying to parse it with XmlReader.Read or XmlDocument.Load, but unfortunately the XmlException does not really allow me to distinguish the problem (except parsing the localized error string). I tried using XmlReader.Read and count the number of Element and EndElement nodes. That way I know when I am finished reading the first, entire XML message. However, there are several problems. If the buffer does not yet contain the entire message, how can I distinguish the XmlException from an actually invalid, non-well-formed message? In other words, if an exception is thrown before reading the first root EndElement, how can I decide whether to abort the connection with error, or to collect more bytes from the TCP stream? If no exception occurs, the XmlReader is positioned at the start of the root EndElement. Casting the XmlReader to IXmlLineInfo gives me the current LineNumber and LinePosition, however it is not straight forward to get the byte position where the EndElement really ends. In order to do that, I would have to convert the byte array into a string (with the encoding specified in the XML declaration), seek to LineNumber,LinePosition and convert that back to the byte offset. I try to do that with StreamReader.ReadLine, but the stream reader gives no public access to the current byte position. All this seams very inelegant and non robust. I wonder if you have ideas for a better solution. Thank you. EDIT: I looked around and think that the situation is as follows (I might be wrong, corrections are welcome): I found no method so that the XmlReader can continue parsing a second XML message (at least not, if the second message has an XmlDeclaration). XmlTextReader.ResetState could do something similar, but for that I would have to assume the same encoding for all messages. Therefor I could not connect the XmlReader directly to the TcpStream. After closing the XmlReader, the buffer is not positioned at the readers last position. So it is not possible to close the reader and use a new one to continue with the next message. I guess the reason for this is, that the reader could not successfully seek on every possible input stream. When XmlReader throws an exception it can not be determined whether it happened because of an premature EOF or because of a non-wellformed XML. XmlReader.EOF is not set in case of an exception. As workaround I derived my own MemoryBuffer, which returns the very last byte as a single byte. This way I know that the XmlReader was really interested in the last byte and the following exception is likely due to a truncated message (this is kinda sloppy, in that it might not detect every non-wellformed message. However, after appending more bytes to the buffer, sooner or later the error will be detected. I could cast my XmlReader to the IXmlLineInfo interface, which gives access to the LineNumber and the LinePosition of the current node. So after reading the first message I remember these positions and use it to truncate the buffer. Here comes the really sloppy part, because I have to use the character encoding to get the byte position. I am sure you could find test cases for the code below where it breaks (e.g. internal elements with mixed encoding). But up to now it worked for all my tests.   • Replacing XML reserved characters in SQL Server 2005

    I'm working on a system that takes relational data from a sql server DB and uses SSIS to produce an XML extract using sql server 2005's 'FOR XML PATH' command and a schema. The problem lies with replacing the XML reserved characters. 'FOR XML PATH' is only replacing <, , and &, not ' and ", so I need a way of replacing these myself. I've tried pre-processing the fields in the database to replace XML reserved characters with their entitised equivalents (e.g. & becomes &amp;), but once these fields are used to construct XML using FOR XML the leading & is replaced with &amp;, so I end up with &amp;amp; where I should have &amp;. What I've tried so far is altering the element's contents after the XML has been constructed using XQuery inside SQL server like so: DECLARE @data VARCHAR(MAX) SET @data = CONVERT(VARCHAR(MAX), [my xml column].query(' data(/root/node_i_want)') SELECT @data = [function to replace quotes etc](@data) SET [my xml column].modify('replace value of (/root/node_i_want)[1] with sql:variable("@data")') but I get the same problem.     I'm using xml.sax with unicode strings of XML as input, originally entered in from a web form. On my local machine (python 2.5, using the default xmlreader expat, running through app engine), it works fine. However, the exact same code and input strings on production app engine servers fail with "not well-formed". If not assume it is write as my real file does work and this is what this dummy one is based off. Now my problem is this. I want to enforce as much as I can from my schema. Such as the "owner" tag must be the first element and should show up one time and only one time ( minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"). Right now I can remove the owner element from my dummy xml file and deseriliaze it and it will go on it's happy way and convert it to object and will just put that property as null. I don't want that I want it to throw an exception or something saying this does match what was expected. I don't want to have to validate things like that once deserialized. Same goes for the <car></car> tag I want that to appear always even if there is no information yet I can remove that too and it will be happy with that. So what tags do I have to add to make my serialization class know that these things are required and if they are not found throw an exception.

  • Alright to truncate database tables when also using Hibernate?

    Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.
