  • Battery is drained too quickly

    - by LucaB
    I'm getting really low battery life under ubuntu, not even close to windows. I tried powertop, and I saw that my laptop is consuming in idle nearly 20 watts (a bit more). I tried to install laptop-mode-tools, change "good" into "bad" in powertop, but nothing changes. I see that I have the the HD audio output device which is running at 100% every time. Could this be the problem? This is a report from powertop. The battery reports a discharge rate of 22.8 W The estimated remaining time is 33 minutes Summary: 381.8 wakeups/second, 0.0 GPU ops/second and 0.0 VFS ops/sec Usage Events/s Category Description 3.2 ms/s 182.7 Timer tick_sched_timer 100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D3: Intel 7.9 ms/s 25.1 Process /usr/bin/X :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch -background no 1.9 ms/s 24.2 Interrupt [6] tasklet(softirq) 2.9 ms/s 23.2 Process /usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --type=zygote 8.1 ms/s 20.3 Process /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service 0.7 ms/s 17.4 Timer hrtimer_wakeup 4.2 ms/s 12.6 Process unity-2d-panel 604.4 µs/s 9.7 Process syndaemon -i 2.0 -K -R -t 149.7 µs/s 9.7 kWork ieee80211_iface_work 0.8 ms/s 8.7 Process metacity 19.5 ms/s 1.0 Process powertop 3.0 ms/s 6.8 Process //bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session 699.0 µs/s 6.8 Process /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird 4.3 ms/s 4.8 Process gnome-terminal 658.9 µs/s 2.9 Interrupt [1] timer(softirq) 75.1 µs/s 2.9 kWork iwl_bg_run_time_calib_work 163.8 µs/s 1.9 Process /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon 70.6 µs/s 1.9 Process [ksoftirqd/2] 25.8 µs/s 1.9 Process [ksoftirqd/0] 1.0 ms/s 1.0 Process /usr/bin/python /usr/sbin/powernapd 408.2 µs/s 1.0 Process unity-2d-shell 189.8 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser 124.4 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/unity-lens-applications/unity-applications-daemon 113.3 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon 112.0 µs/s 1.0 Process nautilus -n 104.9 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-trash --spawner :1.2 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/0 77.5 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/colord/colord 75.6 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor 75.0 µs/s 1.0 Interrupt [53] i915 74.9 µs/s 1.0 Process /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor What should I do to make the battery consumption lower?

  • Make a basic running sprite effect

    - by PhaDaPhunk
    I'm building my very first game with XNA and i'm trying to get my sprite to run. Everything is working fine for the first sprite. E.g : if I go right(D) my sprite is looking right , if I go left(A) my sprite is looking left and if I don't touch anything my sprite is the default one. Now what I want to do is if the sprite goes Right, i want to alternatively change sprites (left leg, right leg, left leg etc..) xCurrent is the current sprite drawn xRunRight is the first running Sprite and xRunRight1 is the one that have to exchange with xRunRight while running right. This is what I have now : protected override void Update(GameTime gameTime) { float timer = 0f; float interval = 50f; bool frame1 = false ; bool frame2 = false; bool running = false; KeyboardState FaKeyboard = Keyboard.GetState(); // Allows the game to exit if (GamePad.GetState(PlayerIndex.One).Buttons.Back == ButtonState.Pressed) this.Exit(); if ((FaKeyboard.IsKeyUp(Keys.A)) || (FaKeyboard.IsKeyUp(Keys.D))) { xCurrent = xDefault; } if (FaKeyboard.IsKeyDown(Keys.D)) { timer += (float)gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalMilliseconds; if (timer > interval) { if (frame1) { xCurrent = xRunRight; frame1 = false; } else { xCurrent = xRunRight1; frame1 = true; } } xPosition += xDeplacement; } Any ideas...? I've been stuck on this for a while.. Thanks in advance and let me know if you need any other part from the code.

  • How to configure maximum number of transport channels in WCF using basicHttpBinding?

    - by Hemant
    Consider following code which is essentially a WCF host: [ServiceContract (Namespace = "http://www.mightycalc.com")] interface ICalculator { [OperationContract] int Add (int aNum1, int aNum2); } [ServiceBehavior (InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerCall)] class Calculator: ICalculator { public int Add (int aNum1, int aNum2) { Thread.Sleep (2000); //Simulate a lengthy operation return aNum1 + aNum2; } } class Program { static void Main (string[] args) { try { using (var serviceHost = new ServiceHost (typeof (Calculator))) { var httpBinding = new BasicHttpBinding (BasicHttpSecurityMode.None); serviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint (typeof (ICalculator), httpBinding, "http://172.16.9.191:2221/calc"); serviceHost.Open (); Console.WriteLine ("Service is running. ENJOY!!!"); Console.WriteLine ("Type 'stop' and hit enter to stop the service."); Console.ReadLine (); if (serviceHost.State == CommunicationState.Opened) serviceHost.Close (); } } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine (e); Console.ReadLine (); } } } Also the WCF client program is: class Program { static int COUNT = 0; static Timer timer = null; static void Main (string[] args) { var threads = new Thread[10]; for (int i = 0; i < threads.Length; i++) { threads[i] = new Thread (Calculate); threads[i].Start (null); } timer = new Timer (o => Console.WriteLine ("Count: {0}", COUNT), null, 1000, 1000); Console.ReadLine (); timer.Dispose (); } static void Calculate (object state) { var c = new CalculatorClient ("BasicHttpBinding_ICalculator"); c.Open (); while (true) { try { var sum = c.Add (2, 3); Interlocked.Increment (ref COUNT); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine ("Error on thread {0}: {1}", Thread.CurrentThread.Name, ex.GetType ()); break; } } c.Close (); } } Basically, I am creating 10 proxy clients and then repeatedly calling Add service method. Now if I run both applications and observe opened TCP connections using netstat, I find that: If both client and server are running on same machine, number of tcp connections are equal to number of proxy objects. It means all requests are being served in parallel. Which is good. If I run server on a separate machine, I observed that maximum 2 TCP connections are opened regardless of the number of proxy objects I create. Only 2 requests run in parallel. It hurts the processing speed badly. If I switch to net.tcp binding, everything works fine (a separate TCP connection for each proxy object even if they are running on different machines). I am very confused and unable to make the basicHttpBinding use more TCP connections. I know it is a long question, but please help!

  • Wait 300ms and then slide down menu using jQuery

    - by Derfder
    I tried this js code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function() { var timer; $('.top-menu-first-ul li').hover(function(){ if(timer) { clearTimeout(timer); timer = null } timer = setTimeout(function() { $(this).find('ul').slideToggle(100); }, 500) }, // mouse out }); }); </script> with this html: <ul class="top-menu-first-ul"> <li> <a href="http://google.com">Google</a> <ul class="top-menu-second-ul"> <li><a href="http://translate.google.com">Google Translate</a></li> <li><a href="http://images.google.com">Google Images</a></li> <li><a href="http://gmail.google.com">Gmail</a></li> <li><a href="http://plus.google.com">Google Plus</a></li> </ul> </li> <li> <a href="http://facebook.com">Facebook</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> </li> </ul> but it is not working. I would like to show the submenu when hovering over e.g. Google link and other will appear after 300ms. So, I need to prevent loading submenu when the user just quickly hover over it and not stay on hover link for at least 300ms. Then I need to stop executing code (or slide up) when he leaves the link. Because if he go over and back and over and back a copule of times he stop doing hovering anfd the code is still executing itself how many times he had hover over the link. I need somehow prevent this to happen. EDIT: I need to solve this without plugins like hoverIntent etc. if possible, just plain javascript and jQuery

  • jboss connection pooling

    - by Web
    I have a question related to Prepared Steatement pooling (across all connections). Here's the config file <datasources> <local-tx-datasource> <jndi-name>JNDI-NAME</jndi-name> <connection-url>jdbc:mysql://<server_name>/<database_name>?useServerPrepStmts=true</connection-url> <driver-class>com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</driver-class> <user-name>xxx</user-name> <password>xxxxx</password> <min-pool-size>10</min-pool-size> <max-pool-size>20</max-pool-size> <idle-timeout-minutes>20</idle-timeout-minutes> <exception-sorter-class-name>org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.vendor.MySQLExceptionSorter</exception-sorter-class-name> <valid-connection-checker-class-name>org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.vendor.MySQLValidConnectionChecker</valid-connection-checker-class-name> <background-validation>true</background-validation> <background-validation-minutes>5</background-validation-minutes> <prepared-statement-cache-size>100</prepared-statement-cache-size> <share-prepared-statements>true</share-prepared-statements> <!-- sql to call when connection is created <new-connection-sql>some arbitrary sql</new-connection-sql> --> <!-- sql to call on an existing pooled connection when it is obtained from pool - MySQLValidConnectionChecker is preferred for newer drivers <check-valid-connection-sql>some arbitrary sql</check-valid-connection-sql> --> <!-- corresponding type-mapping in the standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml --> <metadata> <type-mapping>mySQL</type-mapping> </metadata> </local-tx-datasource> </datasources> It seems that this line: <background-validation-minutes>5</background-validation-minutes> doesn't cause any problems with Prepared Statements, but: <idle-timeout-minutes>20</idle-timeout-minutes> causes that all connections are removed and re-created if there was no traffic for the last 20 minutes. Because of that existing Prepared Statements are removed from the pool of cached Prepared Statements. How to overcome this issue? I have to use idle-timeout-minutes because MySQL server closes the connection after 8h

  • XFS disk becomes unavailable after a while

    - by Guard
    Ubuntu 12.04 (but the same was on 11.10 before upgrading) WD MyBook, 2TB, no RAID (or RAID0, not completely sure, anyway no mirroring, both 1TB disks are in use, mounted as a single device). Formatted to XFS, normally used for big movie files. Connected to Firewire 800. At some point the LED started going up and down as when constantly reading/writing. The device gives access error. When unplugged (cable, then holding the power button for a while, then unplugging the power) and re-connected becomes available. xfs_check with no results. xfs_repair did something, but looks like didn't fix any error. Then after a massive read (checking 1.5GB torrent file for integrity) becomes unavailable again. Any ideas what's wrong? Drives? Cables? Motherboard? OS? • jQuery Countdown plugin and AJAX

    - by roman m
    I'm using jQuery Countdown plugin to implement a Countdown and call a webservice when timer expires. The problem is that I'm using AJAX on the page, and have to re-setup the Countdown on every AJAX request like so: var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance(); prm.add_endRequest(SetupTimer); /*Initial setup*/ $(document).ready(function() { SetupTimer(); }); function SetupTimer() { var serverTime = new Date(); var cutoffTime = new Date($("#<%= cutoffTime.ClientID %>").val()); serverTime.setHours(serverTime.getHours()); if (serverTime < cutoffTime) { $('#timer').countdown('destroy'); /*should work, but doesn't*/ $('#timer').countdown({ until: cutoffTime, serverTime: serverTime, onExpiry: OrderingEnded, format: 'yowdHMS' }); } else OrderingEnded(); } This, for some reason, creates a new instance of the Countdown on ever request, resulting in numerous calls to Webservice when Countdown expires. How do I make sure that only one instance of the Countdown exists at a time? EDIT found this in documentation, doesn't do it for me though $('#timer').countdown('destroy');

  • Chain of DataBinding

    - by Neir0
    Hello I am trying to do follow DataBinding Property -> DependencyProperty -> Property But i have trouble. For example, We have simple class with two properties implements INotifyPropertyChanged: public class MyClass : INotifyPropertyChanged { private string _num1; public string Num1 { get { return _num1; } set { _num1 = value; OnPropertyChanged("Num1"); } } private string _num2; public string Num2 { get { return _num2; } set { _num2 = value; OnPropertyChanged("Num2"); } } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; public void OnPropertyChanged(string e) { PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged; if (handler != null) handler(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(e)); } } And TextBlock declared in xaml: <TextBlock Name="tb" FontSize="20" Foreground="Red" Text="qwerqwerwqer" /> Now lets trying to bind Num1 to tb.Text: private MyClass _myClass = new MyClass(); public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); Binding binding1 = new Binding("Num1") { Source = _myClass, Mode = BindingMode.OneWay }; Binding binding2 = new Binding("Num2") { Source = _myClass, Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay }; tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, binding1); //tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, binding2); var timer = new Timer(500) {Enabled = true,}; timer.Elapsed += (sender, args) => _myClass.Num1 += "a"; timer.Start(); } It works well. But if we uncomment this string tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, binding2); then TextBlock display nothing. DataBinding doesn't work! How can i to do what i want?

  • Asynchronous crawling F#

    - by jlezard
    When crawling on webpages I need to be careful as to not make too many requests to the same domain, for example I want to put 1 s between requests. From what I understand it is the time between requests that is important. So to speed things up I want to use async workflows in F#, the idea being make your requests with 1 sec interval but avoid blocking things while waiting for request response. let getHtmlPrimitiveAsyncTimer (uri : System.Uri) (timer:int) = async{ let req = (WebRequest.Create(uri)) :?> HttpWebRequest req.UserAgent<-"Mozilla" try Thread.Sleep(timer) let! resp = (req.AsyncGetResponse()) Console.WriteLine(uri.AbsoluteUri+" got response") use stream = resp.GetResponseStream() use reader = new StreamReader(stream) let html = reader.ReadToEnd() return html with | _ as ex -> return "Bad Link" } Then I do something like: let uri1 = System.Uri "http://rue89.com" let timer = 1000 let jobs = [|for i in 1..10 -> getHtmlPrimitiveAsyncTimer uri1 timer|] jobs |> Array.mapi(fun i job -> Console.WriteLine("Starting job "+string i) Async.StartAsTask(job).Result) Is this alright ? I am very unsure about 2 things: -Does the Thread.Sleep thing work for delaying the request ? -Is using StartTask a problem ? I am a beginner (as you may have noticed) in F# (coding in general actually ), and everything envolving Threads scares me :) Thanks !!

  • emacs: Inferior-mode python-shell appears "lagged"

    - by Begbie00
    Hi all - I'm a Python(3.1.2)/emacs(23.2) newbie teaching myself tkinter using the pythonware tutorial found here. Relevant code is pasted below the question. Question: when I click the Hello button (which should call the say_hi function) why does the inferior python shell (i.e. the one I kicked off with C-c C-c) wait to execute the say_hi print function until I either a) click the Quit button or b) close the root widget down? When I try the same in IDLE, each click of the Hello button produces an immediate print in the IDLE python shell, even before I click Quit or close the root widget. Is there some quirk in the way emacs runs the Python shell (vs. IDLE) that causes this "lagged" behavior? I've noticed similar emacs lags vs. IDLE as I've worked through Project Euler problems, but this is the clearest example I've seen yet. FYI: I use python.el and have a relatively clean init.el... (setq python-python-command "d:/bin/python31/python") is the only line in my init.el. Thanks, Mike === Begin Code=== from tkinter import * class App: def __init__(self,master): frame = Frame(master) frame.pack() self.button = Button(frame, text="QUIT", fg="red", command=frame.quit) self.button.pack(side=LEFT) self.hi_there = Button(frame, text="Hello", command=self.say_hi) self.hi_there.pack(side=LEFT) def say_hi(self): print("hi there, everyone!") root = Tk() app = App(root) root.mainloop()

  • Cannot access Class methods from previous windows form - C#

    - by George
    I am writing an app, still, where I need to test some devices every minute for 30 minutes. It made sense to use a timer set to kick off every 60 secs and do whats required in the event handler. However, I need the app to wait for the 30 mins until I have finished with the timer since the following code alters the state of the devices I am trying to monitor. I obviously don't want to use any form of loop to do this. I thought of using another windows form, since I also display the progress, which will simply kick off the timer and wait until its complete. The problem I am having with this is that I use a device Class and cant seem to get access to the methods in the device class from the 2nd (3rd actually - see below) windows form. I have an initial windows form where I get input from the user, then call the 2nd windows form where it work out which tests need to be done and which device classes need to be used, and then I want to call the 3rd windows form to handle the timer. I will have up to 6-7 device classes and so wanted to only instantiate them when actually requiring them, from the 2nd form. Should I have put this logic into the 1st windows form (program class ??) ? Would I not still have the problem of not being able to access device class methods from there too ? Anyway, perhaps someone knows of a better way to do the checks every minute without the rest of the code executing (and changing the status of the devices) or how I should be accessing the methods in the app ?? Well that's the problem, I cant get that part of it to work correctly. Here is the definition for the calling form including the device class - namespace NdtStart { public partial class fclsNDTCalib : Form { NDTClass NDT = new NDTClass(); public fclsNDTCalib() (new fclsNDTTicker(NDT)).ShowDialog(); Here is the class def for the called form - namespace NdtStart { public partial class fclsNDTTicker : Form { public fclsNDTTicker() I tried lots but couldn't get the arguments to work.

  • JUnit: checking if a void method gets called

    - by nkr1pt
    I have a very simple filewatcher class which checks every 2 seconds if a file has changed and if so, the onChange method (void) is called. Is there an easy way to check ik the onChange method is getting called in a unit test? code: public class PropertyFileWatcher extends TimerTask { private long timeStamp; private File file; public PropertyFileWatcher(File file) { this.file = file; this.timeStamp = file.lastModified(); } public final void run() { long timeStamp = file.lastModified(); if (this.timeStamp != timeStamp) { this.timeStamp = timeStamp; onChange(file); } } protected void onChange(File file) { System.out.println("Property file has changed"); } } @Test public void testPropertyFileWatcher() throws Exception { File file = new File("testfile"); file.createNewFile(); PropertyFileWatcher propertyFileWatcher = new PropertyFileWatcher(file); Timer timer = new Timer(); timer.schedule(propertyFileWatcher, 2000); FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(file); fw.write("blah"); fw.close(); Thread.sleep(8000); // check if propertyFileWatcher.onChange was called file.delete(); }

  • JSP getParameter problem

    - by user236501
    I have a form, if the timer reach the form will auto redirect to the Servlet to update database. My problem now is if javascript redirect the window to servlet my request.getParameter is null. function verify(f,whichCase){ if(whichCase == "Submit"){ msg = "Are you sure that you want to submit this test?"; var i = confirm(msg) if(i){ parent.window.location = "sindex.jsp" } return i; } } I doing this because i got a iframe in my jsp. Timer update problem have to use iframe. So, when time up or user click submit parent.window.location can let me refresh parent window <form method="POST" action="${pageContext.request.contextPath}/TestServlet" onSubmit="return verify(this,whichPressed)"> My form when user click submit button within the timing, it will trigger the verify function to let user confirm submit. So inside my TestServlet i got this, because using javascript redirect request.getParameter("answer") this keep return me null. protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { if (request.getParameter("Submit") != null) { String ans = request.getParameter("answer"); Answer a = new Answer(ans, no); aa.CreateAnswer(an,t.getTestCode(),username); RequestDispatcher rd = request.getRequestDispatcher("/sindex.jsp"); rd.forward(request, response); } } Below are my timer when time up redirect to TestServlet trigger the doGet method if((mins == 0) && (secs == 0)) { window.alert("Time is up. Press OK to submit the test."); // change timeout message as required var sUrl = "TestServlet"; parent.window.location = sUrl // redirects to specified page once timer ends and ok button is pressed } else { cd = setTimeout("redo()",1000); }

  • Qtimer not timing out QT, C++

    - by realz
    Hi, I am learning C++ and using QT. I have a small program in which I am trying to update the text of the PushButton every second. The label being current time. I have a timer that should time out every second, but seems like it never does. here's the code. Header File #ifndef _HELLOFORM_H #define _HELLOFORM_H #include "ui_HelloForm.h" class HelloForm : public QDialog { public: HelloForm(); virtual ~HelloForm(); public slots: void textChanged(const QString& text); void updateCaption(); private: Ui::HelloForm widget; }; #endif /* _HELLOFORM_H */ CPP file #include "HelloForm.h" #include <QTimer> #include <QtGui/QPushButton> #include <QTime> HelloForm::HelloForm(){ widget.setupUi(this); widget.pushButton->setText(QTime::currentTime().toString()); widget.pushButton->setFont(QFont( "Times", 9, QFont::Bold ) ); QTimer *timer = new QTimer(this); connect(timer, SIGNAL(timeout()), SLOT(updateCaption())); timer->start(1000); connect(widget.pushButton, SIGNAL(clicked()), qApp, SLOT(quit()) ); connect(widget.nameEdit, SIGNAL(textChanged(const QString&)), this, SLOT(textChanged(const QString&))); } HelloForm::~HelloForm() { } void HelloForm::textChanged(const QString& text) { if (0 < text.trimmed().length()) { widget.helloEdit->setText("Hello " + text.trimmed() + "!"); } else { widget.helloEdit->clear(); } } void HelloForm::updateCaption() { QString myVar; myVar = QTime::currentTime().toString(); widget.pushButton->setText(myVar); } Any help will be greatly appreciated... The PushButton's text never changes...

  • How can i add to dataGridView1 a data to the last row/column?

    - by user3681442
    In top of form1 i did: private System.Timers.Timer _refreshTimer; private int _thisProcess; Then in the Form1 Load event: _thisProcess = Process.GetCurrentProcess().Id; InitializeRefreshTimer(); PopulateApplications(); Then the timer init method: void InitializeRefreshTimer() { _refreshTimer = new System.Timers.Timer(5000); _refreshTimer.SynchronizingObject = this; _refreshTimer.Elapsed += new System.Timers.ElapsedEventHandler(TimerToUpdate_Elapsed); _refreshTimer.Start(); } Then the timer elapsed event: void TimerToUpdate_Elapsed(object sender, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e) { PopulateApplications(); } In the end the Populate method: void PopulateApplications() { dataGridView1.Rows.Clear(); foreach (Process p in Process.GetProcesses(".")) { if (p.Id != _thisProcess) { try { if (p.MainWindowTitle.Length > 0) { String status = p.Responding ? "Running" : "Not Responding"; dataGridView1.Rows.Add( p.MainWindowTitle, status); } } catch { } } } } The variable status show in the column2 but let's say i want that status will be display for each process/app in column5 ? How can i move it ? EDIT** Tried this: void PopulateApplications() { dataGridView1.Rows.Clear(); foreach (Process p in Process.GetProcesses(".")) { if (p.Id != _thisProcess) { try { if (p.MainWindowTitle.Length > 0) { var icon = Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon(p.MainModule.FileName); Image ima = icon.ToBitmap(); img.Image = ima; img.HeaderText = "Image"; img.Name = "img"; String status = p.Responding ? "Running" : "Not Responding"; dataGridView1.Rows.Add(img, p.MainWindowTitle, status); } } catch { } } } } I moved the variable img to the top of the form. The problem is i see in each row this: DataGridViewImageColumn { Name=img, Index=-1 } And i don't see the icon it self. Why ?

  • Data-driven animation states

    - by user8363
    I'm trying to handle animations in a 2D game engine hobby project, without hard-coding them. Hard coding animation states seems like a common but very strange phenomenon, to me. A little background: I'm working with an entity system where components are bags of data and subsystems act upon them. I chose to use a polling system to update animation states. With animation states I mean: "walking_left", "running_left", "walking_right", "shooting", ... My idea to handle animations was to design it as a data driven model. Data could be stored in an xml file, a rdbms, ... And could be loaded at the start of a game / level/ ... This way you can easily edit animations and transitions without having to go change the code everywhere in your game. As an example I made an xml draft of the data definitions I had in mind. One very important piece of data would simply be the description of an animation. An animation would have a unique id (a descriptive name). It would hold a reference id to an image (the sprite sheet it uses, because different animations may use different sprite sheets). The frames per second to run the animation on. The "replay" here defines if an animation should be run once or infinitely. Then I defined a list of rectangles as frames. <animation id='WIZARD_WALK_LEFT'> <image id='WIZARD_WALKING' /> <fps>50</fps> <replay>true</replay> <frames> <rectangle> <x>0</x> <y>0</y> <width>45</width> <height>45</height> </rectangle> <rectangle> <x>45</x> <y>0</y> <width>45</width> <height>45</height> </rectangle> </frames> </animation> Animation data would be loaded and held in an animation resource pool and referenced by game entities that are using it. It would be treated as a resource like an image, a sound, a texture, ... The second piece of data to define would be a state machine to handle animation states and transitions. This defines each state a game entity can be in, which states it can transition to and what triggers that state change. This state machine would differ from entity to entity. Because a bird might have states "walking" and "flying" while a human would only have the state "walking". However it could be shared by different entities because multiple humans will probably have the same states (especially when you define some common NPCs like monsters, etc). Additionally an orc might have the same states as a human. Just to demonstrate that this state definition might be shared but only by a select group of game entities. <state id='IDLE'> <event trigger='LEFT_DOWN' goto='MOVING_LEFT' /> <event trigger='RIGHT_DOWN' goto='MOVING_RIGHT' /> </state> <state id='MOVING_LEFT'> <event trigger='LEFT_UP' goto='IDLE' /> <event trigger='RIGHT_DOWN' goto='MOVING_RIGHT' /> </state> <state id='MOVING_RIGHT'> <event trigger='RIGHT_UP' goto='IDLE' /> <event trigger='LEFT_DOWN' goto='MOVING_LEFT' /> </state> These states can be handled by a polling system. Each game tick it grabs the current state of a game entity and checks all triggers. If a condition is met it changes the entity's state to the "goto" state. The last part I was struggling with was how to bind animation data and animation states to an entity. The most logical approach seemed to me to add a pointer to the state machine data an entity uses and to define for each state in that machine what animation it uses. Here is an xml example how I would define the animation behavior and graphical representation of some common entities in a game, by addressing animation state and animation data id. Note that both "wizard" and "orc" have the same animation states but a different animation. Also, a different animation could mean a different sprite sheet, or even a different sequence of animations (an animation could be longer or shorter). <entity name="wizard"> <state id="IDLE" animation="WIZARD_IDLE" /> <state id="MOVING_LEFT" animation="WIZARD_WALK_LEFT" /> </entity> <entity name="orc"> <state id="IDLE" animation="ORC_IDLE" /> <state id="MOVING_LEFT" animation="ORC_WALK_LEFT" /> </entity> When the entity is being created it would add a list of states with state machine data and an animation data reference. In the future I would use the entity system to build whole entities by defining components in a similar xml format. -- This is what I have come up with after some research. However I had some trouble getting my head around it, so I was hoping op some feedback. Is there something here what doesn't make sense, or is there a better way to handle these things? I grasped the idea of iterating through frames but I'm having trouble to take it a step further and this is my attempt to do that.

  • ant undeploy task error

    - by Devil Jin
    I am using ant 1.7 to deploy and undeploy applications in tomcat //Snippet from my build.xml <target name="deploy" depends="war" description="Install application to the servlet containor"> <deploy url="${tomcat.manager.url}" username="${manager.user}" password="${manager.passwd}" path="/${tomcat.ctxpath}" war="${war.local}" /> </target> <target name="undeploy" description="Removes Web Application from path"> <undeploy url="${tomcat.manager.url}" username="${manager.user}" password="${manager.passwd}" path="/${tomcat.ctxpath}" /> </target> The deploy task works perfectly fine but the undeploy task gives an html output for the undeploy task prefixed with [undeploy] although the application is undeployed successfully The html message also contains the success message 'OK - Undeployed application at context path /MyApplication' OUTPUT: [undeploy] <html> [undeploy] <head> [undeploy] <style> [undeploy] H1 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:22px;} H2 {font-family:Tah oma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:16px;} H3 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:whit e;background-color:#525D76;font-size:14px;} BODY {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-color:white;} B {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;} P {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;background :white;color:black;font-size:12px;}A {color : black;}A.name {color : black;}HR {color : #525D76;} table { [undeploy] width: 100%;
