• Rebuild Apple RAID set

  We have a Mac Pro tower with an Apple RAID card in it using third party drives. When one drive failed, we replaced it and the RAID 5 set was nearly done rebuilding when the computer was rebooted. It did not come back up. We are now booting up off of a different internal volume, and have three (third-party) drives of identical spec (including revision and firmware) in the box. One of the drives is a global spare; the other two are recognized as belong to a RAID set but are in "Roaming" mode. The intention is to recreate the three-drive RAID set using the data on the two drives that are good. When we tell the system to create a RAID 5 using the three drives, it tells us that it'll create a RAID set but everything will be lost. There are no obvious options to rebuild a RAID using the two good drives and incorporating the third drive in Apple's RAID Utility, and we've looked through the options for the raidutil command. Fortunately, all important data is backed up, and we can rebuild from scratch, but, is there any way to make the RAIDset work again?

• How to set TV-out options under Linux of an Geforce 9600 GT video card

  I'm using the TV-out connector of my Geforce 9600 GT to connect it to an old TV set. It's obviously in Composite mode, the other two cables of Component video are dead, only Pb/VIDEO labeled one gives me a signal. The picture appears black/white on the TV, I presume it's because the video card gives me an NTSC signal, but it's a PAL tv set. How do I change the TV-out from NTSC to PAL? My Component to SCART adapter hasn't arrived yet, but I think I should be able to set manually, whether the signal should be Composite or Component. How do I switch modes of the TV-out, between Component and Composite? I'm running Linux, so it's probably some settings I need to make in xorg.conf. • Changing a set-cookie header using mod_rewrite/mod_proxy

  I have a bunch of cgi scripts, which are served using HTTPS. They can only be reached on the intranet, not from the outside. They set a cookie with the attribute 'Secure', so that it can only be send via HTTPS. There is also a reverse proxy to one of these scripts, unfortunately using plain HTTP. When a response comes in from my cgi-script with a secure cookie, it is not being passed on via HTTP (after all, that is what that attribute is for). I need however, an exception to this rule. Is it possible to use mod_rewrite/mod_proxy or something similar, to change the set-cookie header in the response coming from my cgi script and remove the Secure, such that the cookie can be passed back to the user using the unsafe HTTP connection? I understand that this defeats the purpose of the Secure in the first place, but I need this as a temporary work around. I have searched the web and found how to add a set-cookie header using mod_rewrite, and I have also found how to retrieve the value of a cookie coming from the client in a cookie header. What I have not yet found is how to extract the set-cookie header received in the response of a script I am proxying for. Is that possible? How would I do that? Ole

• TEMP environment variable occasionally set incorrectly

  Occasionally, I find my TEMP and TMP environment variables set to C:\Windows\TEMP. They should be set to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp, and are configured correctly in System Properties. This manifests itself as error messages like the following: ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS2001: Source file 'C:\Windows\TEMP\gb_pz65v.0.cs' could not be found error CS2008: No inputs specified ...which occurs in various .NET applications (in particular Visual Studio 2010 or SQL Server Management Studio). Alternatively, SQL Server Management Studio will report: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: viewInfo (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlStudio.Explorer) If I run PowerShell elevated, then $env:TEMP is set correctly. If I run PowerShell non-elevated, then it's not. I believe that it should be set correctly in both cases. If not, it's the wrong way round. The same is true for CMD.EXE. Rebooting fixes it, temporarily, until something breaks it again. Presumably something loaded into Explorer.exe is messing with its environment variables, but what? The values in the registry are correct, even while this is happening: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment has TEMP = %SYSTEMROOT%\Temp HKCU\Environment has TEMP = %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp By setting a breakpoint on shell32!RegenerateUserEnvironment, I'm able to trap it when it happens, but I still don't know why explorer.exe is reading the wrong environment variables. I can reproduce it consistently by broadcasting a WM_SETTINGCHANGE message (I wrote a one-line C++ program to do this). Watching the activity in Process Monitor shows that explorer.exe doesn't even look at HKCU\Environment. What is going on?

Together with acl group control for Samba, it allows me to delegate management of permissions to different users based on group membership. Thing is, when I create a new file on a Samba share, I'm unable to set its primary group (the one that grants permission to change its permissions). It's being set to my primary group (Domain Users) or group set using force group option in smb.conf share definition. Removing all groups in windows except the one I want to become the new primary group doesn't work. I can change it using chgrp group folder/ as regular user though shell, but it's suboptimal (not all users are *nix users). • AppCmd returns error: Object 'SET' is not supported

  I am trying to set SSL Host Headers and Secure Site Bindings in IIS7. I followed the directions on this website http://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/ssl-host-headers-iis-7.htm (among others), but when I run the appcmd command mentioned, I get the error "Object 'SET' is not supported. Run 'appcmd.exe /?' to display supported objects". I have also tryed "appcmd site set" but it still returns the same error. What am I doing wrong? The server I am working on is Windows 2008 R2 x64, if that matters. Thank you.

• Set Firefox viewport size

  I thought this would be easy, but turns out it's not. I need to set the Firefox viewport size to a given value (larger than my screen resolution). What I want is not to enlarge the application window, but to enlarge the size available to the html content. The viewport won't be physically larger, but will "tell" the html that it is, so that webpages will take more space (obviously making scrollbars visible). For example, let's say my physical Firefox window is 800x600 px. I'd like to set "viewport size=2", then the available space for the html to render would be 1600x1200. Web Developer has a resize feature but it doesn't work when you set a size larger than your screen resolution (in Windows 7). Thanks in advance (I hope my explanation makes some sense).

I set up SQL Server 2008 Express on a customer's computer to host a DB used by an Access 2007 app. The customer should not be able to access the DB or connect with SQL Management Studio. How do I set up a login and remove any logins that allow a user to connect via Windows Authentication and without entering a username and password? I have not much experience with logins and controlling access.

• Can't set-up Wifi Adhoc on my Raspberry Pi with an USB dongle

  I am trying to set-up an access point (ad-hoc) for my Raspberry Pi. That means I'm trying to "share" the ethernet connection over Wi-Fi. I am doing this using my Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless Adapter. When following a tutorial (or actually every tutorial), it immediately goes wrong. root@pinkypi:/home/pi# iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Device or resource busy. I already tried ifdown and not having it in the USB port at the startup. If it helps, every action with the thing fail (or at least setting the mode). I am using Debian. I'm sure I'm overseeing something, but I can't find out what. What is wrong?

  I want to use rsync to transfer files from my computer to a remote Linux system. Regardless of the local file's group ownership, I want to set these values on the remote side. If I was on the remote Linux system, I could create the directory and set the ownership and permissions as: mkdir my_directory chown :my_group my_directory chmod 775 my_directory If I create the directory locally and then use rsync (remember, I don't have my_group locally), I do: rsync -ae ssh --chmod=ug+rw,Dug+rwx my_directory remoteserver:dest That works, but I cannot figure out how to set the group owner through rsync. If I do a chmod g+s dest, my_directory has the correct group owner but all of the files inside have the incorrect group owner.

• Setting up Linux VPN Client on Mint: Never sends "Set-Link-Info" packet

  I have tried to set up a VPN Connection on the Linux Mint disto, but could not get it working. When I use a Windows 7 VPN client it works fine. I brought up Wireshark on both Windows and Linux machine and noticed that on the Windows machine, the client never attempted to send the "Set-Link-Info" packet whereas the Windows (working) VPN client did. Why isn't the Linux Mint client sending the "Set-Link-Info" packet. I think if it did that, then my connection would work. What am I missing?

  We're running a WSUS server for the simple purpose of caching updates. Since we are a very small network of all "power users", we've got the domain group policy for WSUS updates on the clients set to prompt for download/install. i.e. We don't want updates to install without our knowledge. But there are a few cases where it would be nice to be able to set a certain update to auto-install. e.g. Windows Defender updates, Malicious Software Removal Tool, Outlook Junk Email Filter, etc. Basically all the silly little updates that you would always install anyway and don't require a restart. Is there a way to set the general policy to prompt for download/install, but auto-install certain regular updates? P.S. WSUS itself does have the facility to auto-approve certain updates. • Logging Apparently Not Working - Can't Set Configure Replication

  I'm using a tutorial to set up a master (single) slave setup. When I run the command show master status; I get Empty set (0.00 sec). I have done a lot of research and believe that the log file I have set up isn't being used properly. The master is a Windows server, and I am administering it through workbench. The log file (log-bin.log) I have configured in the options exists, and is accessible by 'System'. But when I open it as a text file it doesn't have any data. So I'm assuming it's not getting used properly. How can I get the logging happening so I can finish setting up this replication? Edit: Purely for reference here is the tutorial. I followed all the steps and double checked everything up until show master status.

When I log into the OMSA web interface I can't see anything Also, omreport tells me nothing; root@box:~# omreport storage controller No controllers found I assume these two will use the same source of information so what ever is wrong will fix them both. I set up OMSA as per these instructions. Also I have compiled MegaCLI (as this is a PowerEdge 2950 with a Perc 6/i controller) and I have used that to update the RAID firmware, so that works, but the Dell tools aren't.   Hello, I have Windows Vista Business Edition running on my laptop (brand is HCL). I have 4 HDD which are as follows - C - 29.2 GB (of which only 3.68 GB is free) D - 39 GB (of which 37.8 GB is free) E - 39 GB (of which 37.3 GB is free) F - 41.6 (of which 41.4 GB is free) However, my page file settings are as below. Automatically manage paging file for all drives. Question - Why should I set one for each drive? Should I set my page file on the OS Root Drive. I happen to talk to a System Administrator in an IT company and he advised that we should never set the page file on the OS drive but on an alternate drive wherever possible. It would be really helpful, if you can guide me here or at least point me to the right resources so that I can read about paging and best practices of paging. Cheers,

In the below code, pivot_title_range is a 'String' variable, and is optional when calling the funtion. title_range is a 'Range' variable.   I would want to set the out-of-office automatic response to all emails that arrive to our [email protected]. currently in the Outlook, I only have one mailbox (the user mailbox) but it has 2 shared mailboxes setup. I have tried to create a Rule that says: for all email received on account [email protected] forward to user [email protected] and make that user to set up the Out-of-office message, but it simply did not work, and I suspect that the rules only apply to the user account and not the shared account... How can I set Out-Of-Office in this shared mailbox ?

  While working on a little backup script I try to change the ACL of a file using Set-Acl in Powershell 1 on Vista and always get the following error message: Set-Acl : The security identifier is not allowed to be the owner of this object. This error persists even if I go a minimal script: $acl = Get-Acl $sourcepath$file $acl |format-list Set-Acl -path $sourcepath$file -AclObject $acl Does anyone know the reason for this error? Obviously I'm not changing the ownership of the file... BTW: What I ultimately want to achieve is to reduce all access rights to ReadAndExecute. • Aquamacs overrides my custom-set-faces options

  I've just installed Aquamacs on my Mac. I have a .emacs file in my home, which contains all my customizations. Among these, I have a: (custom-set-faces ... ) set of lines, which seems not to be applied automatically. If I select the lines from the .emacs and manually evaluate them, everything works fine. My guess is that these options are overridden in some other place. How can I debug this? Where should I set my custom faces? Thanks guys.

  I'm currently migrating to openbox without gnome session. In unity i can use the vendor keys to set the screen brightness, but in openbox I'm on my own. /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness works fine, the problem is that I need sudo to set the brightness and that wouldn't work with keyboard mappings. xbacklight -get/set doesn't do or output anything. I don't really want to use xrandr --brightness. Are there any other options or a way to fix the problems with xbacklight or acpi_video0 ?
