  • Mac OS X Terminal: mouse support?

    Is there a native option (ie. without installing extra soft/package/plugins) to enable mouse support in the Terminal app? Actually, I'm using a lot vim with the option set mouse=a (activating mouse features). But it seems that Terminal don't support all xterm's features. It appears (after some googling) that Terminal had once the mouse support, but I wonder where did it go. N.B: I really want mouse support in Terminal, not only for vim, so please, don't suggest MacVim :]

    I'm trying to configure the Snow Leopard's VPN on demand service without success I've tried the following domain+configuration pairs but none of them have worked: domain.net default *.domain.net default My goal is that each time I go to www.domain.net with Safari, ssh server1.domain.net or everything else on this domain.net the connection will be established trough the VPN !   • Throttle network bandwidth per application in Mac OS X

    I notice that iTunes seems to suck up all my bandwidth and doesn’t play nice with other applications that use the web when it's downloading. In fact, it doesn't even give itself enough bandwidth when browsing the iTunes Store while downloading large or many files (podcasts, TV shows, large apps, etc). I'm not concerned with getting all my downloads as soon as possible, they're really low priority, and I'd rather not have to do this while I'm awake, but I can't hit the refresh button if I'm in bed and forgot it already. Is there an application or tool via the Terminal to limit the download bandwidth that iTunes gets without also hindering web browsers or other applications? FOSS/GPL software is preferable, but pay software might be acceptable too.

  • OS X not booting after upgrading LibXML2

    I tried upgrading the version of LibXML2 in my machine to run some propietary software. Compiled as 32-bit (-arch i386) and restarted to see if it worked. Now when I try to boot I can only get into the spinning screen and it just sits there. Restarting in verbose mode (Cmd-V) does not show any error in the process, it just freezes after "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete". I can't from any CD either (if I press c on startup it just spins the disk around and then stops in the same spinner screen). I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM to discard any problems with that and it´s still not fixed. Any pointers of what might´ve gone wrong? (Latest gen MBP, running 10.6.3)

  • DHCPDISCOVER requests from an off-by-one MAC address

    In a Linux DHCP server I'm getting a bunch of these log lines: dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:30:48:fe:5c:9c via eth1: network 192.168.2.0/24: no free leases I don't have any machines with 00:30:48:fe:5c:9c and I don't intend to give out an IP to 00:30:48:fe:5c:9c (whatever that could be). I tracked down the server that this is coming from and killed all the DHCP clients that were running but the DHCPDISCOVER requests do not stop. I can prove that this is the sending server by pulling the Ethernet cable - the requests stop. The strange thing is that the sending server only has 2 interfaces which are: 00:30:48:fe:5c:9a 00:30:48:fe:5c:9b What can be the cause of the off-by-one address? Who could be sending the requests? Itunes only shows data using track1,2,3. How can I add metadata? are there any good softwares? I am open to windows too :)

  • Stop a runaway launchd process on OS X Leopard

    I created a launchd .plist file to in order to have a python script run every hour. I ended up editing and later deleting the .plist file ( in /Library/LaunchDaemons )... but somehow launchd is still trying to run the script.. The file that the original .plist was calling is also no longer present ( it was in /usr/bin ).. Now every 10 seconds launchd is still attempting to run the script, fails, and respawns... I tried fixing this with Lingon.... to no avail.. Is there a way to kill this process for good? I tried logging out and restarting as well... Machine is running 10.5.8

  • Open FDF document on Mac

    I'm having the issue documented here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/445594 When I try to open a FDF, I just get a pop up over and over again which asks me if I want to open the form. One possible solution is downgrading to Safari 3, but that is not proven to work. I thought maybe I could get the FDF to open in FireFox, but changing the default browser does not affect Reader, it still attempts to open the FDF in Safari (strange). So, does anyone know of a way to open this form? Thanks -Corey

  • Old (Leopard) Expose on Snow Leopard (for mac)

    I'm amazed this question haven't been asked here. There are many discussions about it out there and even a way to remove the blue glow. Of course I've already filled my complain with apple... But, is there a way to have the old expose on Snow Leopard? Or maybe a mix of both. The only thing I like on the new one is viewing minimized windows, but not always. So I'd like better been able to tweak it a little bit, but just having the old expose would be fine.

    I thought that all operating systems would merge folder content when being moved to the same location. Imagine my surprise when that didn't happen and I have hundreds, if not thousands of files that have gone missing and are nowhere to be found. Because they were not "deleted" they are not in the trash bin. I've tried to do some recovery using a program called stellarPheonix but after about a 24hour scan, it didn't recognize any of the raw files (.dng,.arw) as image files and so I couldn't see if they could be recovered. It also didn't show the directory structure, which would be handy. I tried a quick scan, but all it showed was files that were still on the HD, not sure what the point of that is. I've used recover 2000 on Win and it does a good job, does anyone know of anything that works quickly and reliably for this kind of file recovery. (I don't think I should have to do a sector-by=sector for this kind of file loss)

  • On the fly volume compression (waveform capping) for VLC or OS X

    I'm looking to impose a hard limit on a movie. In particular when I have earbuds in and a reasonable volume set, loud or sudden sounds (gun shot, dramatic sound effects, gun fire, etc) are loud enough to hurt. Lowering the volume makes speech and other sounds hard to hear. Is there a third party on-the-fly solution for this, or a plug-in for VLC that I can use?
