  • Getting started in Mac Development; No Mac.... What Do?!

    - by Andrew Bolster
Hi folks, With all the RDF et al around King Jobs' newest glass beermat, I'm getting the feeling that its a good time to add the 'iphone/ipad developer' string to my bow. One problem (two if you count not being in a financial position to slap down $1000+ for a mac) ; I am a PC head, specifically a Linux-head, and have no regular access to a Mac platform to develop on. I cannot see any way of getting my hands on iSDK without being on a Mac, (but have been known to be wrong) How hopeless is my plight and where can I go from here?

  • Anyone get mach_inject working on snow leopard?

    - by overboming
Project is now on github and here is the link to my issue I successfully compiled the whole thing and able to run rejector and rejectee separately. • Raw socket sendto() failure in OS X

    - by user37278
When I open a raw socket is OS X, construct my own udp packet (headers and data), and call sendto(), I get the error "Invalid Argument". Here is a sample program "rawudp.c" from the web site http://www.tenouk.com/Module43a.html that demonstrates this problem. The program (after adding string and stdlib #includes) runs under Fedora 10 but fails with "Invalid Argument" under OS X. Can anyone suggest why this fails in OS X? I have looked and looked and looked at the sendto() call, but all the parameters look good. I'm running the code as root, etc. Is there perhaps a kernel setting that prevents even uid 0 executables from sending packets through raw sockets in OS X Snow Leopard? Thanks.

  • Dendrogram generated by scipy-cluster does not show

    - by Space_C0wb0y
I am using scipy-cluster to generate a hierarchical clustering on some data. As a final step of the application, I call the dendrogram function to plot the clustering. I am running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard using the built-in Python 2.6.1 and this matplotlib package. The program runs fine, but at the end the Rocket Ship icon (as I understand, this is the launcher for GUI applications in python) shows up and vanishes immediately without doing anything. Nothing is shown. If I add a 'raw_input' after the call, it just bounces up and down in the dock forever. If I run a simple sample application for matplotlib from the terminal it runs fine. Does anyone have any experiences on this?

  • How do I build mDNSResponder?

    - by Alex
I have tried checking out the mDNSResponder source from Apple's SVN host, with the thought of compiling it and tweaking it. This failed miserably. Here is the last line of the output of cd trunk SRCROOT=. make I get the same error for several tags in the SVN tree, so I'm not sure if there is something on my end wrong? The following build commands failed: mDNSResponder: CompileC mDNSResponder.build/mDNSResponder.build/Objects-normal/i386/mDNSMacOSX.o /Users/myname/Desktop/mDNSResponder/trunk/mDNSMacOSX/mDNSMacOSX.c normal i386 c com.apple.compilers.gcc.4_2 PhaseScriptExecution "Run Script" /Users/myname/Desktop/mDNSResponder/trunk/mDNSMacOSX/mDNSResponder.build/mDNSResponder.build/Script-D284BE6C0ADD80740027CCDF.sh mDNSResponder debug: CompileC "mDNSResponder.build/mDNSResponder debug.build/Objects-normal/i386/mDNSMacOSX.o" /Users/myname/Desktop/mDNSResponder/trunk/mDNSMacOSX/mDNSMacOSX.c normal i386 c com.apple.compilers.gcc.4_2 Build Some: PhaseScriptExecution "Run Script" "/Users/myname/Desktop/mDNSResponder/trunk/mDNSMacOSX/mDNSResponder.build/Development/Build Some.build/Script-FF045B6A0C7E4AA600448140.sh" (4 failures)

  • Linking to libcrypto for Leopard?

    - by adib
Hi I am using Mac OS X 10.6 SDK and my deployment target is set to Mac OS 10.5. I'm linking to libcrypto (AquaticPrime requires this) and found out that my app doesn't launch on Leopard. The error is dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib I've tried the following workarounds but none of them work: Linking directly to libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib (the 10.6 SDK refuses to link directly with libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib. Copying the 10.5 SDK's version of libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib to the 10.6 lib directory and try t link with it (this time the link process succeeded but in Leopard the app still tries to lookup the non-existent libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib file and thus won't launch). Copying libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 installation and link with it (the link was successful but the app still looks for libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib). Is there a way to link to this library and still use the 10.6 SDK? Thanks.

  • Help with pointers in Cocoa

    - by G.P. Burdell
I'm trying to make a simple calculator application in cocoa. The program hangs when I click on one of my buttons. I think I've traced the problem to the part of my controller that adds a digit to the end of the number currently on the display: - (void)updateNumber:(int)buttonClicked{ *self.activeNumberPointer = *self.activeNumberPointer * 10 + buttonClicked; [outputField setFloatValue:*self.activeNumberPointer]; } I used a pointer to the "activeNumber" in order to allow my program to tell which of the two operands I'm editing. Any help appreciated, thanks.

  • Including FFMPEG with a Java application on Mac

    - by James Skidmore
I'm writing a Java program that will be used on both Windows and Mac. In the program, I'm using FFMPEG to convert a MOV file to an FLV. On Windows, it's no problem -- simply call the command. But on Mac, I'm not quite sure what to do. Does the user really have to install FFMPEG on their machine, or can it somehow be included in the Java application? Thanks for any help/guidance!

  • Quartz Window Services equivalent for Windows and X11?

    - by Jake Petroules
What is the equivalent of Quartz Window Services for Windows and X11? I want to be able to capture individual windows with their decorations, shadows, etc., completely independent from each other. Basically what the Son of Grab example is able to do. http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/SonOfGrab/Introduction/Intro.html Also it seems like it's not possible to capture non-top-level windows with QWS in Mac. For example I want to be able to capture a Java or Flash applet running inside Firefox. What other library would I need to use instead?

  • Selenium tests not building due to NUnit error (Mono+OS X)

    - by Jem
I'm running Selenium RC on my Mac and driving my tests using NUnit in C#. My problem is that when I try and build a simple test in Mono I get the following error. Error CS0433: The imported type `NUnit.Framework.Assert' is defined multiple times (CS0433) (TestProject) When I comment out the Assert's it runs fine. The code I'm using currently is just a dump from the openqa site using System; using System.Text; using System.Text.RegularExpressions; using System.Threading; using NUnit.Framework; using Selenium; namespace SeleniumTests { [TestFixture] public class AllTests { private ISelenium selenium; private StringBuilder verificationErrors; [SetUp] public void SetupTest () { selenium = new DefaultSelenium ("localhost", 4444, "*safari", "http://www.google.co.uk"); selenium.Start (); verificationErrors = new StringBuilder (); } [TearDown] public void TeardownTest () { try { selenium.Stop (); } catch (Exception) { // Ignore errors if unable to close the browser } Assert.AreEqual ("", verificationErrors.ToString ()); } [Test] public void GoogleHomepageTests () { // Open Google search engine. selenium.Open ("http://www.google.com/"); // Assert Title of page. Assert.AreEqual ("Google", selenium.GetTitle ()); // Provide search term as "Selenium OpenQA" selenium.Type ("q", "Selenium OpenQA"); // Read the keyed search term and assert it. Assert.AreEqual ("Selenium OpenQA", selenium.GetValue ("q")); // Click on Search button. selenium.Click ("btnG"); // Wait for page to load. selenium.WaitForPageToLoad ("5000"); // Assert that "www.openqa.org" is available in search results. Assert.IsTrue (selenium.IsTextPresent ("www.openqa.org")); // Assert that page title is - "Selenium OpenQA - Google Search" Assert.AreEqual ("Selenium OpenQA - Google Search", selenium.GetTitle ()); } } } Any ideas? Is it a OSX/Mono thing?

  • How to check if a file is a DLL?

    - by PierreBdR
Given a file, I want to check if this is a DLL, or a shared object (Linux) or a dylib (Mac OS X), or something different. My main interest is differentiating executable and DLL on Linux and Mac OS X. For windows, the extension should be enough for my problem. I already checked that the magic number technique doesn't work for Linux as executable and shared objects both have the same number.

  • How to get the last key pressed on Mac ?

    - by Dheeraj
Hi All, I'm writing a plugin for an application. I cannot derive from NSApplication as it is a third party application. I can get the callback in my plugin when any key is pressed. But I will not know what key is pressed. So is there any call in Cocoa to find the last key pressed when I get the callback? I only have NSView object. Any ideas will help me a lot. Thanks, Dheeraj.

  • Finding text's bounding rect in Core Text

    - by Mo
I'm trying to find the boundaries of a line of text in Core Text. For simplicity, assume it has a single character. At the moment I'm using the following method: line = CTLineCreateWithAttributedString(attrString); rect = CTLineGetImageBounds(line, context); It works most of the times, but for some characters, like math italic d (Unicode: 0x1D451) or math italic q (Unicode: 0x1D45E), the width is a bit short. I tried using CTLineGetTypographicBounds() or CTFramesetterSuggestFrameSizeWithConstraints, but they didn't help either (I think they use glyph's advance to find the width, not its graphical width.) As the font itself isn't italic, I also can't use slant angle to correct this. I tried accessing the glyphs directly and using CTFontCreatePathForGlyph(), but failed as CGGlyph and UniChar are both 16-bits and I need 32-bit characters. Does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong? If so, what's the right way?

  • Preferred Font for Reading Documentation?

    - by Vaibhav Bajpai
I have been spending quite some time lately reading Java6 Documentation; although I use Monaco as my monospaced font of choice, I am still searching for the best font which will please my eyes while reading the documentation text. I use both Windows7 at work and Mac OS X at home for the aforementioned and currently using (Monaco+Andalus) on Windows and (Monaco+Geneva) on Mac OS X, but would love to try out better looking fonts (specifically for documentation text, since I am sold on Monaco already). I have included a screenshot of how the text looks on Windows.

  • ASIHTTPRequest wrapper usage for Macs

    - by Rob
I am trying to apply the ASIHTTPRequest wrapper to a very basic Objective C program. I have already copied over the necessary files into my program and after giving myself an extreme headache trying to figure out how it works through their website I thought I would post a question on here. The files copied over were: ASIHTTPRequestConfig.h ASIHTTPRequestDelegate.h ASIProgressDelegate.h ASIInputStream.h ASIInputStream.m ASIHTTPRequest.h ASIHTTPRequest.m ASIFormDataRequest.h ASIFormDataRequest.m My program is very basic: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // Defining the various variables. char firstName[20]; char lastName[20]; char rank[5]; int leaveAccrued; int leaveRequested; // User Input. NSLog (@"Please input First Name:"); scanf("%s", &firstName); NSLog (@"Please input Last Name:"); scanf("%s", &lastName); NSLog (@"Please input Rank:"); scanf("%s", &rank); NSLog (@"Please input the number leave days you have accrued:"); scanf("%i", &leaveAccrued); NSLog (@"Please input the number of leave days you are requesting:"); scanf("%i", &leaveRequested); // Print results. NSLog (@"Name: %s %s", firstName, lastName); NSLog (@"Rank: %s", rank); NSLog (@"Leave Accrued: %i", leaveAccrued); NSLog (@"Leave Requested: %i", leaveRequested); [pool drain]; return 0; } How do I utilize the wrapper to export these 5 basic variables to a web server via an http request?

  • Linker library for OpenMP for Snow Leopard?

    - by unknownthreat
Currently, I am trying out OpenMP on XCode 3.2.2 on Snow Leopard: #include <omp.h> #include <iostream> #include <stdio.h> int main (int argc, char * const argv[]) { #pragma omp parallel printf("Hello from thread %d, nthreads %d\n", omp_get_thread_num(), omp_get_num_threads()); return 0; } I didn't include any linking libraries yet, so the linker complains: "_omp_get_thread_num", referenced from: _main in main.o "_omp_get_num_threads", referenced from: _main in main.o OK, fine, no problem, I take a look in the existing framework, looking for keywords such as openmp or omp... here comes the problem, where is the linking library? Or should I say, what is the name of the linking library for openMP? Is it dylib, framework or what? Or do I need to get it from somewhere first?

  • Unexplained crashs with coregraphic

    - by Ziggy
Hello there, i'm on this bug for a week now, and i can't solve it. I have some crash with coregraphic calls, it happen randomly (sometimes after 2 mn, or just at the start), but often at the same places in the code. I have a class that just wrap a CGContext, it have a CGContextRef as member. This Object is re-created each time DrawRect() is called, so the CGContextRef is always up-to-date. The draw calls came from the main thread, only After looking for this kind of error, it appear that it should be object Release related. Here is an example of an error : #0 0x90d8a7a7 in ___forwarding___ #1 0x90d8a8b2 in __forwarding_prep_0___ #2 0x90d0d0b6 in CFRetain #3 0x95e54a5d in CGColorRetain #4 0x95e5491d in CGGStateCreateCopy #5 0x95e5486d in CGGStackSave #6 0x95e54846 in CGContextSaveGState #7 0x00073500 in CAutoContextState::CAutoContextState at Context.cpp:47 the AutoContextSave() class look like this : class CAutoContextState { private: CGContextRef m_Hdc; public: CAutoContextState(const CGContextRef& Hdc) { m_Hdc = Hdc; CGContextSaveGState(m_Hdc); } virtual ~CAutoContextState() { CGContextRestoreGState(m_Hdc); } }; It crash at CGContextSaveGState(m_Hdc). Here is what i see into GDB: * -[Not A Type retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x16a148b0.
