• How to properly override Drupal imagecache presets

- by volocuga
Say I need to override defaul presets, provided by Ubercart module. This is what I wrote: function config_imagecache() { $presets = array( array( 'presetname' => 'product', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_crop', 'data' => array('width' => 300, 'height' => ''), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), array( 'action' => 'canvasactions_canvas2file', 'data' => array('xpos' => 'center', 'ypos' => 'center', 'path' => 'actions/pad_300_300.gif', 'dimensions' => 'background',), 'weight' => 1, 'module' => 'imagecache_canvasactions', ), ), ), array( 'presetname' => 'uc_thumbnail', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_scale', 'data' => array('width' => 55, 'height' => 55, 'upscale' => 0), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), array( 'action' => 'canvasactions_canvas2file', 'data' => array('xpos' => 'center','ypos' => 'center', 'path' => 'actions/pad_60_60.gif','dimensions' => 'background'), 'weight' => 1, 'module' => 'imagecache_canvasactions', ), ), ), array( 'presetname' => 'product_full', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_scale', 'data' => array('width' => 600, 'height' => 600, 'upscale' => 0), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), ), ), array( 'presetname' => 'product_list', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_scale', 'data' => array('width' => 100, 'height' => 100, 'upscale' => 0), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), array( 'action' => 'canvasactions_canvas2file', 'data' => array('xpos' => 'center', 'ypos' => 'center', 'path' => 'actions/pad_100_100.jpg','dimensions' => 'background',), 'weight' => 1, 'module' => 'imagecache_canvasactions', ), ), ), array( 'presetname' => 'uc_category', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_scale', 'data' => array('width' => 100, 'height' => 100, 'upscale' => 0), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), array( 'action' => 'canvasactions_canvas2file', 'data' => array('xpos' => 'center', 'ypos' => 'center', 'path' => 'actions/pad_100_100.gif', 'dimensions' => 'background',), 'weight' => 1, 'module' => 'imagecache_canvasactions', ), ), ), array( 'presetname' => 'cart', 'actions' => array( array( 'action' => 'imagecache_scale', 'data' => array('width' => 50, 'height' => 50, 'upscale' => 0), 'weight' => 0, 'module' => 'imagecache', ), array( 'action' => 'canvasactions_canvas2file', 'data' => array('xpos' => 'center', 'ypos' => 'center', 'path' => 'actions/pad_60_60.gif', 'dimensions' => 'background',), 'weight' => 1, 'module' => 'imagecache_canvasactions', ), ), ), ); foreach ($presets as $preset) { drupal_write_record('imagecache_preset', $preset); foreach ($preset['actions'] as $action) { $action['presetid'] = $preset['presetid']; drupal_write_record('imagecache_action', $action); } } imagecache_presets(true); cache_clear_all('imagecache:presets', 'cache'); } I can see in imagecache UI the settings was applied, but really images disappeared at all. Nothing works now. Where is the mistake?

• Rails - How to connect Helper to Controller Module

- by red eye
I have helper: module BreadcrumbsHelper def breadcrumbs_cache_wrap(key, options, &block) ... end end And i extract part of Controller to module: module ApplicationController::Breadcrumbs def default_breadcrumbs ... end class ApplicationController include ApplicationController::Breadcrumbs ... end Now i want to connect Helper to Controller. I can do it like this: class ApplicationController include ApplicationController::Breadcrumbs helper :breadcrumbs ... end It's working. But can i incapsulate connection to Breadcrumbs Module? module ApplicationController::Breadcrumbs helper :breadcrumbs ... end Unfortunately this code is not working "undefined method `helper'".

• Is context inheritance, as shown by Head First Design Patterns' Duck example, irrelevant to strategy pattern?

- by Korey Hinton
In Head First Design Patterns it teaches the strategy pattern by using a Duck example where different subclasses of Duck can be assigned a particular behavior at runtime. From my understanding the purpose of the strategy pattern is to change an object's behavior at runtime. Emphasis on "an" meaning one. Could I further simplify this example by just having a Duck class (no derived classes)? Then when implementing one duck object it can be assigned different behaviors based on certain circumstances that aren't dependent on its own object type. For example: FlyBehavior changes based on the weather or QuackBehavior changes based on the time of day or how hungry a duck is. Would my example above constitute the strategy pattern as well? Is context inheritance (Duck) irrelevant to the strategy pattern or is that the reason for the strategy pattern? Here is the UML diagram from the Head First book:

• Servlet mapping url patterns

- by Scobal
I have the following urls that need mapping to two different servlets. Can anyone suggest a working url-pattern please? vehlocsearch-ws: /ws/vehlocsearch/vehlocsearch /ws/vehavailrate/vehavailratevehlocsearch /ws/vehavailrate/vehavailratevehlocsearch.wsdl vehavailrate-ws: /ws/vehavailrate/vehavailrate /ws/vehavailrate/vehavailratevehavailrate /ws/vehavailrate/vehavailratevehavailrate.wsdl So far I have this, which feels right, but isn't: <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>vehlocsearch-ws</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.vehlocsearch*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>vehavailrate-ws</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.vehavailrate*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> Note: I have no control over the incoming urls

• "Admin module" taking over [Yii framework]

- by Flavius
Hi I have an "admin" module and I want it to serve "dynamic controllers", i.e. to provide a default behaviour for controllers which don't really exist ("virtual controllers"). I've invented a lightweight messaging mechanism for loose communication between modules. I'd like to use it such that when e.g. ?r=admin/users/index is requested, it will call the "virtual controller" "UserController" of AdminModule, which would, by default, use this messaging mechanism to notify the real module "UsersModule" it can answer to the request. I thought about simulating this behaviour in AdminModule::init(), but at that point I have no way of deciding whether the action can be processed by a real controller or not, or at least I don't know how to do it. This is because of the way Yii works: bottom-up, the controller is the one that renders the view AND the application layout (or the module's, if it exists), for example. I don't think the module even has a word to say about handling a given controller+action or not. To recap, I'm looking for a kind of CWebModule::missingController($controllerId,$actionId), just like CController::missingAction($actionId), or a workaround to simulate that. That would possibly be in CWebModule::init() or somewhere where I can find out whether the controller actually exists, in which case it's his job to handle it the $actionID and $controllerID whether the module $controllerID exists (I didn't type it wrong, in r=admin/users/index, "users" is the actual module, as specified in the application's config).

• Maven3 Issues with building a multi-module enterprise project

- by Sujit K
I just migrated from Maven2 to Maven3 and I'm able to build each module individually or all the modules in one shot by calling mvn clean install. However, in Maven2, since we have multi-module enterprise project, we build multiple ear's and each ear is built as its own module with its own child pom. To build an individual ear with its dependents, the below command works fine in Maven2 but not in Maven3. Let me explain the issue in Maven3 a bit later. mvn -pl ear_module -rf first_dependent_module -am clean install In Maven2 when the reactor lists the build order, I see first_dependent_module second_dependent_module ear_module End of the day I have my ear module also part of the reactor which is how it should be. The reason we call -rf is we don't want to delete the target folder at the main ${project.basedir} (so not to delete the output created in target from building the other ear modules). With Maven3, however, this is all I see when the reactor lists the build order: first_dependent_module second_dependent_module Maven3 totally ignores the argument (ear_module) set to -pl flag to be also built after its dependents have been. Not sure what I'm missing here. Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. P.S: The build I'm making is similar to the one below.... Build specific module in multi-module project Thanks, SK

• printSoln module problem

- by dingo_d
Hi I found in book:Numerical Methods in engineering with Python the module run_kut5, but for that module I need module printSoln, all provided in the book. Now I cp the code, made necessary line adjustments and so. The code looks like: # -*- coding: cp1250 -*- ## module printSoln ''' printSoln(X,Y,freq). Prints X and Y returned from the differential equation solvers using printput frequency ’freq’. freq = n prints every nth step. freq = 0 prints initial and final values only. ''' def printSoln(X,Y,freq): def printHead(n): print "\n x ", for i in range (n): print " y[",i,"] ", print def printLine(x,y,n): print "%13.4e"% x,f for i in range (n): print "%13.4e"% y[i], print m = len(Y) try: n = len(Y[0]) except TypeError: n = 1 if freq == 0: freq = m printHead(n) for i in range(0,m,freq): printLine(X[i],Y[i],n) if i != m - 1: printLine(X[m - 1],Y[m - 1],n) Now, when I run the program it says: line 24, in <module> m = len(Y) NameError: name 'Y' is not defined But I cp'd from the book :\ So now when I call the run_kut module I get the same error, no Y defined in printSoln... I'm trying to figure this out but I suck :( Help, please...

• Load-Module equivalient in PowerShell v1

- by friism
(Cross-post from Stackoverflow) For reasons of script portability, I need to dynamically load snap-ins in a PowerShell script (ie. I don't want to actually install it). This is easily accomplished in PowerShell v2 with the Load-Module function. I need to run this particular script on a machine where I, for various reasons, do not want to install PowerShell v2, but have v1. Is there a Load-Module equivalent in PowerShell v1?

• Windows PowerShell ISE doesn't import PSCX 2.0 module

- by Alexander
Hi, i am using Powershell 2.0 with the PSCX 2.0 module. When writing PS scripts inside Windows PowerShell ISE no Cmdlets from the PSCX module are availible. For example running "Get-DriveInfo" from Windows PowerShell ISE would cause an error. Running "Get-DriveInfo" from Powershell works fine. I guess Windows PowerShell ISE doesn't load my PS profile (this would be mad). Does anyone know why and what to do to get it work?

package testing.ejb1; import javax.ejb.Stateless; import testing.model.Data; @Stateless public class DataService { private Data data; public DataService(){ data = new Data(); data.setData("Hello testing.ejb1.DataService; @Stateless public class Service { @EJB DataService service; public Service(){ } public String getText(){ return service.getDataText(); } } And the web module contains only a Servlet: package testing.web; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import javax.ejb.EJB; import javax.servlet.ServletException; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import testing.ejb2.Service; public class SimpleServlet extends HttpServlet { @EJB Service service; public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); out.println( "SimpleServlet Executed" ); out.println( "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd" > <web-app> <display-name>Archetype Created Web Application</display-name> <servlet> <servlet-name>simple</servlet-name> files are set up by me. There is no ejb-jar.xml in any ejb files, because I'm using EJB 3.1. So I think ejb-jar.xml descriptors are optional. I this right? But the problem is, the already mentioned error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to load EJB module. DeploymentContext does not contain any EJB Check archive to ensure correct packaging Can anybody help?

• Pass variable to regular expression pattern string in jquery

Is that possible to pass variable into regular expression pattern string in jquery ( or javascript)? For example, I want to validate a zip code input field every time while user type in a character by passing variable i to the regular expression pattern. How to do it right? $('#zip').keyup( function(){ var i=$('#zip').val().length for ( i; i<=5; i++){ var pattern=/^[0-9]{i}$/; if ( !pattern.test( $('#zip').val() ) ) {$('#zip_error').css('display','inline');} else {$('#zip_error').css('display','none');} } })

• OWB 11gR2 – Flexible and extensible

- by David Allan
The Oracle data integration extensibility capabilities are something I love, nothing more frustrating than a tool or platform that is very constraining. I think extensibility and flexibility are invaluable capabilities in the data integration arena. I liked Uli Bethke's posting on some extensibility capabilities with ODI (see Nesting ODI Substitution Method Calls here), he has some useful guidance on making customizations to existing KMs, nice to learn by example. I thought I'd illustrate the same capabilities with ODI's partner OWB for the OWB community. There is a whole new world of potential. The LKM/IKM/CKM/JKMs are the primary templates that are supported (plus the Oracle Target code template), so there is a lot of potential for customizing and extending the product in this release. Enough waffle... Diving in at the deep end from Uli's post, in OWB the table operator has a number of additional properties in OWB 11gR2 that let you annotate the column usage with ODI-like properties such as the slowly changing usage or for your own user-defined purpose as in Uli's post, below you see for the target table SALES_TARGET we can use the UD5 property which when assigned the code template (knowledge module) which has been modified with Uli's change we can do custom things such as creating indices - provides The code template used by the mapping has the additional step which is basically the code illustrated from Uli's posting just used directly, the ODI 10g substitution references also supported from within OWB's runtime. Now to see whether this does what we expect before we execute it, we can check out the generated code similar to how the traditional mapping generation and preview works, you do this by clicking on the 'Inspect Code' button on the execution units code template assignment. This then creates another tab with prefix 'Code - <mapping name>' where the generated code is put, scrolling down we find the last step with the indices being created, looks good, so we are ready to deploy and execute. After executing the mapping we can then use the 'Audit Information' panel (select the mapping in the designer tree and click on View/Audit Information), this gives us a view of the execution where we can drill into the tasks that were executed and inspect both the template and the generated code that was executed and any potential errors. Reflecting back on earlier versions of OWB, these were the kinds of features that were always highly desirable, getting under the hood of the code generation and tweaking bit and pieces - fun and powerful stuff! We can step it up a bit here and explore some further ideas. The example below is a daisy-chained set of execution units where the intermediate table is a target of one unit and the source for another. We want that table to be a global temporary table, so can tweak the templates. Back to the copy of SQL Control Append (for demo purposes) we modify the create target table step to make the table a global temporary table, with the option of on commit preserve rows. You can get a feel for some of the customizations and changes possible, providing some great flexibility and extensibility for the data integration tools.

• java.util.regex.Pattern matching the beginning of a String

Hi all, Is it possible to know if a stream/string contains an input that could match a regular expression. For example String input="AA"; Pattern pat=Pattern.compile("AAAAAB"); Matcher matcher=pat.matcher(input); //<-- something here returning true ? or String input="BB"; Pattern pat=Pattern.compile("AAAAAB"); Matcher matcher=pat.matcher(input); //<-- something here returning false ? • Finding a pattern within a string variable in C#

- by lo3
Ok i'm working on a project for a 200 level C# course, we are required to create a heads or tails project. Basically the project is setup so that the computer will guess randomly up to 5 times, but on the sixth time it will look into the playersGuessHistory variable setup as a string to see if it can find a match for a pattern of 4 entires, if there is a pattern found the computer will guess the next character after the pattern EX: [HHTT]H [HHTTH]H HHTT being the pattern then the computer would guess H for the next turn. My only problem is that i'm having difficulty setting up the project so that it will look through the playersguesshistory and find the patterns and guess the next character in the history. Any suggestions?

== Subjective Question Warning == Looking for well supported opinions or supporting evidence. Let us assume that skeleton code can be good. If you disagree with the very concept of module skeleton code then fine, but please refrain from repeating that opinion here. Many python IDE's will start you with a template like: print 'hello world' That's not enough... So here's my skeleton code to get this question started: My Module Skeleton, Short Version: #!/usr/bin/env python """ Module Docstring """ # ## Code goes here. # def test(): """Testing Docstring""" pass if __name__=='__main__': test() and, My Module Skeleton, Long Version: #!/usr/bin/env python # -*- coding: ascii -*- """ Module Docstring Docstrings: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0257/ """ __author__ = 'Joe Author ([email protected])' __copyright__ = 'Copyright (c) 2009-2010 Joe Author' __license__ = 'New-style BSD' __vcs_id__ = '$Id$' __version__ = '1.2.3' #Versioning: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0386/ # ## Code goes here. # def test(): """ Testing Docstring""" pass if __name__=='__main__': test() Notes: """ ===MODULE TYPE=== Since the vast majority of my modules are "library" types, I have constructed this example skeleton as such. For modules that act as the main entry for running the full application, you would make changes such as running a main() function instead of the test() function in __main__. ===VERSIONING=== The following practice, specified in PEP8, no longer makes sense: __version__ = '$Revision: 1.2.3 $' for two reasons: (1) Distributed version control systems make it neccessary to include more than just a revision number. E.g. author name and revision number. (2) It's a revision number not a version number. Instead, the __vcs_id__ variable is being adopted. This expands to, for example: __vcs_id__ = '$Id: example.py,v 1.1.1.1 2001/07/21 22:14:04 goodger Exp $' ===VCS DATE=== Likewise, the date variable has been removed: __date__ = '$Date: 2009/01/02 20:19:18 $' ===CHARACTER ENCODING=== If the coding is explicitly specified, then it should be set to the default setting of ascii. This can be modified if necessary (rarely in practice). Defaulting to utf-8 can cause anomalies with editors that have poor unicode support. """ There are a lot of PEPs that put forward coding style recommendations. Am I missing any important best practices? What is the best python module skeleton code? Update Show me any kind of "best" that you prefer. Tell us what metrics you used to qualify "best".

• Best practice for DAO pattern ?

- by Tony
I've seen a lot of codes use a service-dao pattern , I don't know the origin of this pattern . It force the front layer call service , then delegates some of the service task to dao. I want to ask : Does DAO layer do purely data access related task ? What about exception encapsulation ? Is there other pattern can be used to replace this ?

• PRG Pattern and Sticky Forms

- by Scott Christopherson
I'm using the PRG pattern on a form of mine. I've never used this approach before and I'm trying to figure something out: Normally, I always just displayed the posted form again when there were validation errors and displayed POST values in the form (sticky form). However with the PRG pattern, the form is displayed after a redirect, so there aren't any POST values. So my question is, how can I implement the PRG pattern and still have sticky forms?

• Ignore duplicates in regex pattern

- by gAMBOOKa
I have a regex pattern that searches for words in a text file. How do I ignore duplicates? For instance, take a look at this code $pattern = '/(lorem|ipsum|daboom|pahwal|ababaga)/i'; $num_found = preg_match_all( $pattern, $string, $matches ); echo "$num_found match(es) found!"; echo "Matched words: " . implode( ',', $matches[0] ); If I have more than one say lorem in the article, the output will be something like this 5 matches found! Matched words: daboom, lorem, lorem, lorem, lorem I want the pattern to only find the first occurrence, and ignore the rest, so the output should be: 2 matches found! Matched words: daboom, lorem

• What design pattern do you use the most?

- by spoon16
I'm interested in understanding what design patterns people find themselves using often. Hopefully this list will help other recognize common scenarios and the associated design pattern that can be used to solve them. Please describe a common problem you find yourself solving and the design pattern(s) you use to solve it. Links to blogs or documentation describing the pattern are also appreciated. Edit: Please expand on your answers a bit, I would like this to be a useful reference for someone who wants to learn more about design patterns and is curious on what situations a specific design pattern might be used. Nobody has linked to any "more learning" resources.
