• No useful DVB-T card found

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 3.2.0-26 kernel and I just added a DVB-T card. I did install the media_build as in (http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers) After that the Restricted Drivers appeared on the screen and I installed the Firmware for DVB Cards. lsusb shows Bus 002 Device 005: ID 048d:9005 Integrated Technology Express, Inc. which is my card. lsmod shows these things regarding dvb dvb_usb_it913x 22173 0 dvb_usb 32369 1 dvb_usb_it913x dvb_core 110010 1 dvb_usb rc_core 26343 2 dvb_usb_it913x,dvb_usb Nevertheless there is no /dev/dvb on my linux and Kaffeine does not find the TV turner. Can anybody help me installing my TV Card? Thanks

  Which vendor provides better GPGPU. my requirements are confined to rendering utilising the GPU for BSDF building for e.g. Intel started providing Ivy Bridge chipset GPU, which are comparably fast to HD5960 cards. I'm not that against nvidia or amd. but I'm a fan of Intel. how it compares to nvidia in price and performance. if possible may I know, how all of them perform with OpenCL?? I'm not sure if it is right to ask it here. but I don't know where to ask.

• Is it ok to run with unknown video device?

  I'm new to linux and just starting to learn. From what I've read and experimented with there's no more support for older ati mobility cards. I resolved a few boot issues with my first install of Ubuntu 12.10(now on clean install #3) and my system seems to function ok with video unknown. Picture quality is good and no issues with video playback. It functions for my purposes. Should I leave it as is......or will this cause problems I'm not aware of? Thanks

• Deactivate one graphicdevice in a SLI system

  As it is now, I have a Gaminglaptop with 2 GeForce 9800M GT with SLI activated, Ubuntu 12.04. When I use any graphicdriver that is aware of acceleration features the system crashes after a short period of time. After I removed and purged jockey my system runs stable but slowly, but I can use it for now (I have to choose recovery at startup and the resume boot, botting up normal results in a colorflickering screen). But since the system is runs slowly, I would like to try to work with only one graphicdevice. First test device A, if that doesn't work test with device B. A testing tool for Windows already told me, that one of the cards doesn't work properly, but it doesn't say which one (same crashes in Windows when programs or desktop uses acceleration). Therefore I wanted to ask, if there is a way to reinstall any nVidia (or third party) driver, deactivate one of the two devices and test the stability?

My Notebook has two graphics cards: lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Madison [AMD Radeon HD 5000M Series] I tried to install the proprietary graphics drivers ''fglrx'' available in "Additional Drivers", which does not give me 3D graphics acceleration (and I can't install those post-release). Then I can try to download and install from the website (I tried the version that Catalyst 11.8 11.12). • Leapfrog Crammer won't mount as a USB flash drive

  I can't seem to get the Leapfrog Crammer study and sound system to show up as a flash drive under ubuntu so I can transfer stuff to it. I don't want to install the leapfrog bloatware, can someone help me with this? Additional Information: When I plug my crammer into my computer it shows a 1 MB file system with a link to download the crammer software. I want to know how to access the rest of the crammer's file system so I can transfer music to it. The crammer does not show any other partitions in natulius. According to an article on the internet, the crammed is divided into three partitions: One with a link to install the crammer software, one with all content(music, flash cards, etc.) and one for firmware. I want to know how to access the one with the content so I can add music to the player. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

• Help with intel Imac 2008 Audio not working

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I get no audio except if i insert speakers and set them as headphones. This means really weird feedback and little volume. i'd like to set it back to the mac's default speakers but currently no matter what graphical interface i go into such as Audio or Alsamixer i can not fix the problem.Ive run alsamixer and looked thoroughly throught the forums but cannot find the answer to my problem. • Triple monitors on hybrid video system GeForce+Intel

  I use Lenovo Ideapad Z580A with hybrid video: GeForce+Intel with Ubuntu 12.10 x64 Ukrainian. It has internal display and two outputs: HDMI and VGA. When I connect third display to VGA all displays go black. Pressing alt+backspace and login causes output to two displays: internal and VGA. System Settings - Displays (or monitors - I have Ukrainian interface) shows three displays: two are on, one (DVI) is off. Turning DVI on and pressing apply causes an error: Can not set configuration of controller CRTC 65. BIOS setting is Optimus (two video cards). Driver for GeForce is Nouveau. With best regards. • Dual 7950, freezes during startup

  I have two identical video cards right now. Xubuntu will boot up no problem if I only have one card installed. If I install the 2nd card it will just hang midway thru the loading screen. Regardless of which card I use and which position on the motherboard, it will freeze if I have both installed. I've tried installing the proprietary drivers, both fglrx and fglrx-updates, still freezes in the same spot. Uninstalled those and went back to the default ones. The only way I can get a terminal is by booting into failsafe mode. Booting using 13.10 i386 on a USB stick gives me some errors related to what I think is the 2nd video card: [drm:r600_ring_test] ERROR radeon: ring 1 test failed (scratch(0x850C)=0xCAFEDEAD) [drm:r600_dma_ring_test] ERROR radeon: ring 3 test failed (0x02FFFF6B) radeon 0000:0200.2 disabling GPU acceleration"

• Time display and Cursor bug in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  Just installed Ubuntu 14.04. Noticed the time in seconds speeds up then slows down to normal speed. The cursor for the keyboard has a strange rhythm; it stays normal, then slowly speeds up faster and faster till it looks like it's not blinking anymore, then goes back to normal and starts the process again. It almost seems like my whole operating system speeds up then slows down again. Even the hour circle that spins when it's loading starts slowly then it picks up speed till it spins so fast it looks like it's not even spinning. It interferes with video and the whole system. I have a Dell Vostro 3750 dual video cards and dual boot with Windows 7. Windows is running fine.

• Ubuntu 10.10 screen goes nuts and unreadable

  Running Ubuntu 10.10 in its own partition, also have Oracle Virtualbox 4 with Windows XP. Because i previously had a problem with a dark screen when i let the laptop on and i didn't use it for a long while i had set Power settings to Never sleep, never let the Display sleep. Monitor on install set to Laptop resolution 1400 by 1050, refresh rate 60 Hz, rotation Normal. The problem was when the computer was left on and i returned after about an hour, the screen was unreadable, similar to what used to happen to graphics cards before multisync became normal. So it appears as though the graphics card was asked to use a resolution it couldn't handle and went nuts. I had to power off the system, on restart everything was fine. Thanks for any suggestions. • Ubuntu thinks I have two displays

  When I first installed Ubuntu I noticed that my mouse would flicker a lot, which caused me to investigate. I remembered back when I ran Fedora I had an issue where it thought I had two displays (hp-dv7 4285dx laptop). In Fedora, this didn't cause any issues. In Ubuntu, it causes the mouse the flicker a lot. The fix I've been using is to just go into settings displays and disable the display that doesn't actually exist. The only problem is that this is not permanent. Each time I start up Ubuntu, I have to go back in and disable this display. They're each just titled "Built-in Display", and have the same resolution. My laptop does have two graphics cards: one on-board and one dedicated. I'm not sure if maybe that is causing is an issue? Any guidance towards this would be great. Thanks!

There were a couple of warnings at "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic fglrx-legacy" with update-alternatives. But, at the last step I got "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". Unity does not start anymore. I only can login to Gnome. How can I get back to a working system?

• 12.04 freezes on install

  I'm new to ubuntu and can't for the life of me understand how to get around this issue. I'm having a problem where when I insert the boot disk that i burned for 12.04, it loads and gives me the language option and select an installation type, i select either try ubuntu / install ubuntu and it begins to load. Then after about 5 mintues of the purple screen with the dots under the UBUNTU it freezes the whole computer, and the only way to get out is to turn off the laptop with the power button. I have read previous threads saying people had similar "freezing" issues including ones that mention my model of laptop, HP Pavillion DV1000. But it appears their problems are post installation and relate to their wireless cards. I have tried changing the boot options (F6) and I am totally stuck. Can anyone shed any light on to this issue? • What sort of things can cause a whole system to appear to hang for 100s-1000s of milliseconds?

  I am working on a Windows game and while rendering, some computers will experience intermittent pauses ("hitches" for lack of a better term). When profiled they appear in seemingly random places in the code. Eventually I noticed that it wasn't just my process that was affected, but (seemingly) every process on the system. All of the threads in my application hitch at once. The CPU utilization drops during these hitches and it appears as if most processes make no progress. This leads me to believe this may be an Operating System or Driver issue, but it only occurs while playing the game (and only on some systems). What sort of operations might the operating system be doing that would require the kernel to pause all user threads and block. Some kind of I/O? At first I thought of paging but my impression is that would only affect a single process, no? Some systems in use: Windows, DirectX (3d), nVidia cards (unknown if replicates on ATI), using overlapped io for streaming

For example Purpose of Website: (sell products, reduce number of enquires, reduce work load, etc) Do you have you’re an existing logo? (can you send it via email) Do you have a preferred font for the website text? Do you have a colour theme for your logo, business cards, shop you would like to keep on the website Do you have photos you can provide of your Products? etc Ofcause it would need to be tweaked slightly for each customer but I was looking for a generic document as a baseline.

• How to disable VGA

  If i run lspci | grep VGA I get below output which tells me below VGA cards are present on my computer. 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2) 08:02.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc ES1000 (rev 02) The ES1000 is an onboard card which came with my machine. Do anyone know how to disable this VGA on my machine. The reason for this request is because if I run xrandr I get the output as shown below: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 50.0* 800x600 51.0 52.0 53.0 680x384 54.0 55.0 640x480 56.0 512x384 57.0 400x300 58.0 320x240 59.0 Which means I am not able to configure nVidia to accept smaller resolution. I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure. • Kubuntu 13.04 Sound Problems

  Well, I have already looked into drivers, and sound cards whatnot, but what happens to me is this; sometimes sound wants to play, sometimes it does not! Not via speakers, not via headphones-nothing! I am unsure of what causes this problem, but it is a reoccurring issue through the versions of Kubuntu I run. I do not see any noteable symptoms about this, it is completely random! I have tested it on fresh installs and modified versions and I get the same problem, which annoys me. If updated Flash, tried youtube, tried various video players-the lot! Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

• In some games, we just let the main() loop be the Player object or Table object?

  I was thinking that let's say if there is a game of Blackjack or MasterMind, then we should have a class called Dealer or ComputerPal, which is how the computer interact with us (as a dealer for Blackjack or as the person giving hints for MasterMind). And then there should be a Player object, and the way to play one game is aPlayer.playGame but I noticed that a book was just using the main() loop to act as the player (or as the Controller of the game), calling the Dealer methods to dealer the cards, ask for player's action, etc... 1) Is this just a lazy way to model all the proper objects? 2) If more objects are to be added, who should call the aDealer.dealCards and then ask for aPlayer.askForAction? (because it is strange to let the Player handle all the logical steps). Should there be a Table object that handle all these logic and then to play one round of game, use aTable.playGame? What is a good object design for such game?

• Changing externally visible IP on a multi-IP router?

  I work at a public library and I'm trying to configure OCLC's EzProxy software. I've run into a problem and I think it's related to our network config. I'm punching above my weight here a little so I need some help. I think I'm trying to configure a 1:1 NAT, but not sure how or if our hardware supports it. The EzProxy machine is on an internet line which supports multiple external IPs. Our router is a Billion BiGuard30. There's another server on this line, let's say its IP is x.x.x.9. The EzProxy machine is x.x.x.11 I've set up port forwarding from x.x.x.11 on the http ports to the EzProxy machine. Trying to browse to x.x.x.11 from an external PC works fine - we get to the EzProxy page we are serving. However, if we go to something like WhatIsMyIP from the EzProxy machine, it says that its IP is x.x.x.9. This causes problems with our user authentication software. How do we make the rest of the internet see that the machine is x.x.x.11? There doesnt seem to be any "outbound port forwarding" on the Billion router, nor is there any "1:1 NAT" options in its config webpage. The EzProxy machine is running Ubuntu 12.04, if that helps.

• Using pre-made patch cables on a punch down block?

  I need to add a 24 port switch to my wiring closet. In the (distant) past, I usually just punched each port of the switch to a 110 block on the wall (using hand-made cables), and cross connect between that and the 110 block that has the runs to each workstation. To save time, I'm thinking of buying 12 pre-made drop cables, cutting them in half (so 24 single ended cables), and punching those to my 110 block. The things I'm worried about are wire type (ie. solid vs. strands) and color scheme. I really don't know if they use different wire types (still?), but I remember that being an issue at one point. Can anyone comment on this? (I definitely won't feel comfortable trying to punch stranded wiring on my 110 block) Also, picking up a random pre-built cable I had laying around, I noticed that the color scheme used didn't appear to be T568B, but T568A, which would clash with the rest of my wall. Anyone know of an online source that specifies these things? I've looked at www.cablesforless.com (which does have nicer prices) and www.cablestogo.com (which seem stupid expensive) so far. Cables For Less doesn't specify wiring scheme, Cables To Go does specify T568B. Both seem to specify stranded wires instead of solid.
