    I got sick of the Bing Maps on WebOS not being able to find “coffee” when I’m in St. Paul.  Coffe Pk, TX anyone? – no thanks.  So I finally got around to installing PreWare on my Palm Pre 2.  The WebOS Quick Install doesn’t successfully download the novacom drivers.  You can find them here: http://downloads.help.palm.com/opensource/novacom/novacom-win-32.tgz http://downloads.help.palm.com/opensource/novacom/novacom-win-64-tgz Don’t bother trying the Novacom Universal Installer either. Then put phone in developer mode (by Typing webos20090606 and switch on developer mode), attach phone in “Just Charge” mode, run WebOS Quick Install, select the globe icon, and search for PreWare, install.

  • ASP.NET MVC, Web API, Razor and Open Source

    Microsoft has made the source code of ASP.NET MVC available under an open source license since the first V1 release. We’ve also integrated a number of great open source technologies into the product, and now ship jQuery, jQuery UI, jQuery Mobile, jQuery Validation, Modernizr.js, NuGet, Knockout.js and JSON.NET as part of it. I’m very excited to announce today that we will also release the source code for ASP.NET Web API and ASP.NET Web Pages (aka Razor) under an open source license (Apache 2.0), and that we will increase the development transparency of all three projects by hosting their code repositories on CodePlex (using the new Git support announced last week). Doing so will enable a more open development model where everyone in the community will be able to engage and provide feedback on code checkins, bug-fixes, new feature development, and build and test the products on a daily basis using the most up-to-date version of the source code and tests. We will also for the first time allow developers outside of Microsoft to submit patches and code contributions that the Microsoft development team will review for potential inclusion in the products. We announced a similar open development approach with the Windows Azure SDK last December, and have found it to be a great way to build an even tighter feedback loop with developers – and ultimately deliver even better products as a result. Very importantly - ASP.NET MVC, Web API and Razor will continue to be fully supported Microsoft products that ship both standalone as well as part of Visual Studio (the same as they do today). They will also continue to be staffed by the same Microsoft developers that build them today (in fact, we have more Microsoft developers working on the ASP.NET team now than ever before). Our goal with today’s announcement is to increase the feedback loop on the products even more, and allow us to deliver even better products.  We are really excited about the improvements this will bring. Learn More You can now browse, sync and build the source tree of ASP.NET MVC, Web API, and Razor on the http://aspnetwebstack.codeplex.com web-site.  The Git repository on the site is the live RC milestone development tree that the team has been working on the last several weeks, and the tree contains both the runtime sources + tests, and is buildable and testable by anyone.  Because the binaries produced are bin-deployable, this allows you to compile your own builds and try product updates out as soon as they are checked-in. You can also now contribute directly to the development of the products by reviewing and sending feedback on code checkins, submitting bugs and helping us verify fixes as they are checked in, suggesting and giving feedback on new features as they are implemented, as well as by submitting code fixes or code contributions of your own. Note that all code submissions will be rigorously reviewed and tested by the ASP.NET MVC Team, and only those that meet an extremely high bar for both quality and design/roadmap appropriateness will be merged into the source.     Another version of Tyrus, the reference implementation of JSR 356 – Java API for WebSocket is out! Complete list of fixes and features is below, but let me describe some of the new features in more detail. All information presented here is also available in Tyrusdocumentation. What’s new? First to mention is that JSR 356 Maintenance review Ballot is over and the change proposed for 1.1 release was accepted. More details about changes in the API can be found in this article. Important part is that Tyrus 1.8 implements this API, meaning you can use Lambda expressions and some features of Nashorn without the need for any workarounds. Almost all other features are related to client side support, which was significantly improved in this release. Firstly – I have to admit, that Tyrus client contained security issue – SSL Hostname verification was not performed when connecting to “wss” endpoints. This was fixed as part of TYRUS-339 and resulted in some changes in the client configuration API. Now you can control whether HostnameVerification should be performed (SslEngineConfigurator#setHostnameVerificationEnabled(boolean)) or even set your own HostnameVerifier (please use carefully): #setHostnameVerifier(…). Detailed description can be found in Host verification chapter. Another related enhancement is support for Http Basic and Digest authentication schemes. Tyrus client now enables users to provide credentials and underlying implementation will take care of everything else. Our implementation is strictly non pre-emptive, so the login information is sent always as a response to 401 Http Status Code. If the Basic and Digest are not good enough and there is a need to use some custom scheme or something which is not yet supported in Tyrus, custom Authenticator can be registered and the authentication part of the handshake process will be handled by it. Please seeClient HTTP Authentication chapter in the user guide for more details. There are other features, like fine-grain threadpool configuration for JDK client container, build-in Http redirect support and some reshuffling related to unifying the location of client configuration classes and properties definition – every property should be now part of ClientProperties class. All new features are described in the user guide – in chapterTyrus proprietary configuration. Update – Tyrus 1.8.1 There was another slightly late reported issue related to running in environments with SecurityManager enabled, so this version fixes that. Another noteworthy fixes are TYRUS-355 and TYRUS-361; the first one is about incorrect thread factory used for shared container timeout, which resulted in JVM waiting for that thread and not exiting as it should. The other issue enables relative URIs in Location header when using redirect feature.   • using pf for packet filtering and ipfw's dummynet for bandwidth limiting at the same time

    I would like to ask if it's fine to use pf for all packet filtering (including using altq for traffic shaping) and ipfw's dummynet for bandwidth limiting certain IPs or subnets at the same time. I am using FreeBSD 10 and I couldn't find a definitive answer to this. Googling returns such results as: It works It doesn't work Might work but it's not stable and not recommended It can work as long as you load the kernel modules in the right order It used to work but with recent FreeBSD versions it doesn't You can make it work provided you use a patch from pfsense Then there's a mention that this patch might had been merged back to FreeBSD, but I can't find it. One certain thing is that pfsense uses both firewalls simultaneously so the question is, is it possible with stock FreeBSD 10 (and where to obtain the patch if it's still necessary).   • Web based file search in the lan?

    I would like to search files in my lan easily. (over 500k files on SMB shares, it would take ages with other ways) I mean, i just need to do a quick search on file names, i don't care content indexing at all, as most of my files are in a proprietary format, and the file name is explicative enough. But, date range filters are a must for me. I just need a quick search like voidtools' everything can do, but in a network way The files are on a WHS box (lol, Videos and Music share names are not appropriate for a company, but a license for that win2003-based os is cheaper than an xp home one!) I tried: Lansearch pro: it is not good for me, as i need a quick index Network Search Engine: it would be perfect, but does not offer a date range filter Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express, but it is horrible! First, does NOT index filenames, and then, my Core2Duo is not powerful enough to run it smoothly. Google Desktop with a proxy on localhost to make it run on the lan, but i don't like the hacked result. The preinstalled Windows Search 4.0 but it sucks totally in choosing the relevance of data - uninstalled Docco... what's that? I am considering to try: Ibm omnifind DocFetcher (can it work as a client? did not investigated yet) Strigi (it looks like that it can work as a client, right?) Any ideas/suggestions?

I was able to create a VPN connection from another company that has the same internet service provider. The problem begins when I'm trying to connect from another ISP like Orange or Telekom.   • glusterfs mounts get unmounted when 1 of the 2 bricks goes offline

    I have an odd case where 1 of the 2 replicated glusterfs bricks will go offline and take all of the client mounts down with it. As I understand it, this should not be happening. It should fail over to the brick that is still online, but this hasn't been the case. I suspect that this is due to configuration issue. Here is a description of the system: 2 gluster servers on dedicated hardware (gfs0, gfs1) 8 client servers on vms (client1, client2, client3, ... , client8) Half of the client servers are mounted with gfs0 as the primary, and the other half are pointed at gfs1. Both configs connect everything just fine, they just don't fail over. Any help would be appreciated.

  • In Objective C, what's the best way to extract multiple substrings of text around multiple patterns?

    For one NSString, I have N pattern strings. I'd like to extract substrings "around" the pattern matches. So, if i have "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" and my patterns are "brown" and "lazy" i would like to get "quick brown fox" and "the lazy dog." However, the substrings don't necessarily need to be delimited by whitespace. I have a hunch that there's a very easy solution to this, but I admit a disturbing lack of knowledge of Objective C string functions.

    Hi, this is probably the really newbie question (well, I'm pretty sure it is), but I have a float that's being returned and I need a quick and efficient way of turning it into an int. Pretty simple, but I have an exception. If the remainder of the float is anything other than .0 then I want to increment the int. Some quick examples: Float = 98.0, Int = 98 Float = 98.1, Int = 99 Float = 6.6, Int = 7 etc. Thanks for any help!
