    I'm running some lengthy video encodes using the Handbrake command line interface. After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program for Windows 7. Possibly related links: System "Beep" sound does not function in Windows Vista x64 with HD Audio devices (I am indeed using an HD Audio device: the SoundMAX ADI1986A) What’s up with the Beep driver in Windows 7?

  • How to create a service running a .bat file on Windows 2008 Server?

    I've created the service using sc create myService binpath=myservice.bat But when I start it, it fails with the following error message: [SC] StartService FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. On Win2k3 I used the srvany.exe from the Resource kit, but there's no resource kit for win2k8. For the time being I've installed the srvany.exe on my machine, but I don't think that's the best way to do it. Thanks!

  • Join .doc files into one .doc (with keeping the original format of every document)

    I have about ~50 .doc files, that look perfect (they are extracted with Able2Extract). Now I want to join these 50 files into one huge .doc. I've tried using Word's in-built "Insert" feature, but that messed up the whole format. I want to keep everything I have. Like just document1 - document2 - document3. Nothing "intelligent" or "smart" needed during the conversion, just the capability of joining them. (Thus making them all searchable, that's the ultimate aim.) I don't mind if the method/solution applies a single blank page at every document end either.

  • Recursively resize images from one directory tree to another?

    I have a large complex directory tree full of JPG images. I would like to create a second directory tree that exactly mirrors the first, but resizing all the images down to a set size (say 2000x1500 or something) and quality (perhaps 85%). Is there any tool that would allow me to easily do this on Windows? I could write some scripts to automate it with bash and image magick, but first want to see if it's already been done. Faster is better too, as I have thousands of images. So something like Photoshop is probably not a good solution as it might take a couple of seconds per image.

    I am trying to list the directory name (only name, not full path) and sub directories (only name, not full path) inside it. There is only one level of sub directories. I used below script to do this: @echo off&setlocal enableextensions for /r "PATH" %%G in (.) do ( Pushd %%G for %%* in (.) do set MyDir=%%~n* echo %MyDir% popd ) endlocal&goto :eof The problem with the above script is that it is showing root directory with the full path. How can I just make it show the directories in relation to the one I am working in?

    Suppose my PATH is C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\ SET NEW_PATH=C:\My\Dir\ SETX PATH "%PATH%;%NEW_PATH%" Results in a path of: C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\;C:\My\Dir" Notice the quotation mark at the end of the path. It's as though the backslash at the end of %NEW_PATH% escaped the final quote mark. I need the quotation marks because I have spaces in my path, but I don't want backslashes to be interpreted as escape characters. What's the right way to include my PATH in the call to SETX?

    I have at the moment a logon.cmd script, that I'm using to map network drives to the users profile. It looks like this: ::Onboarding net use m: /delete net use m: \\BOB\onboarding ::Bookings net use n: /delete net use n: \\BOB\bookings ::Accounts net use j: /delete net use j: \\BOB\accounts It works fine up until it gets up to a folder that the current user cannot access, it then asks for a username and password instead of erroring and continuing. Notes: This very script used to work on another Samba PDC network, but I've moved it over to another server (Still Samba PDC) and now its breaking. Is there anyway for it to ignore the username/password prompt and just continue?

  • How to limit SMTP delivery to hourly batches

Sorry if you saw it there first In an effort to keep us from being labeled spammers by major ISPs (in addition to SPF records, privacy policies, CANSPAM compliance and the like) - I wanted to limit the amount of mail we send out an hour. Is this possible in W2K3 SMTP server? I was looking at outbound connection properties in the SMTP virtual server config screens...It's just not that clear if tinkering with those settings are going to do what I want. In a nutshell, I'd love mail being sent by this server to queue up and send for example, 5,000 messages every 10 minutes or so. Mail is being sent via ASP.Net. Also, I wouldn't be sending 1 million a day. Probably 30,000 tops - and doing that only a few times a month. I'm just trying to avoid a tidal wave of 30k going out in 1 minute and setting off every network spam monitoring alarm in North America. I know I could do it with a combination console app / scheduled job. My question was if there was an easier way to accomplish this with the Virtual SMTP Server settings on Win2k3 Is this possible?

  • Download folders from dev server to local drive

    I am developing a .net web application on a local environment. I have a dev server that the application is installed on. Within the web application on the dev server I have four folders that I dont have locally and that are controlled by another application. In my day to day development I require the four folders on local PC. I would like to automate the process of pulling the folders from the dev server to my local drive, so I can keep thing in sync. Ideally something like this Run file from main folder (be it a bat file, powershell, some sort of job, open to recommendations) Download 4 folders supplied to it. First download bring everything down, from them on only pull the changes Not sure where to start with achieving this but would appreciate any help would with. I know there are apps out there that do something like this but would like to give a go writing something to do this before I resort to using one of them.

    I am using an application that requires several attempts to log in (because of overloaded servers). This app has no "remember my password" feature. Therefore, I would like to make a script (preferably a .bat script), that would first copy my password into the clipboard -so that I don't have to retype my password on every log on attempt- , then launch the application (easy part) Is this possible with a MS-DOS command ? Do I need a little exe or another script language ? I'm obviously looking for the quickest solution to implement. Thanks in advance for your ideas

  • Auto-rotate rotated images with mogrify

    Some of my images have been taken rotated but kept this data. The problem is that, when using mogrify to convert them from JPG to png, that data seems to dissapear. For showing this problem, I think the best is to show the script and an screenshot. Script with the code. Put it in a text file, give it execution permission, double click, run (from terminal if you wish) and wait a while. All the JPGs in that folder will be converted to png. #! /bin/bash echo "Converting JPG to png. Please don't close this window." mogrify -alpha on -format png *.JPG mogrify -alpha on -format -alpha on png *.jpg It works great and adds an alpha channel. This is personally useful when I edit them later, not to add the channel individually. Now the screenshot that illustrates the problem: As you can see, the original ones' (JPGs) preview is right, the modified preview is wrong, the Shotwell rendering is right and the GIMP edit is wrong and didn't even say the image was rotated, as it uses to do with other images. How can I edit my script to preserve the orientation?

Or even "better": echo 1 echo 2 echo 3 echo 4 echo 5 echo 6 echo 7 echo 8 echo 9 echo 10 echo 11 echo 12 and then execute it...     I am creating a custom boot disk for work using Windows PE 3.0. I need to be able to tell what drive the system was booted from. it may be a CD, or a USB Flash drive. In the past, I have looked for a file on the root of the drive that holds some of our custom configuration. however that is getting a bit messy. Basically, in addition to Windows PE, the drive or disk also has other scripts and tools. I need to remount that USB drive or DVD to the U:\ Drive, to keep thing consistent. Basically, Diskpart.exe Select Volume $X assign Letter=U Exit I just need to figure out how to determine that nasty little $X.

  • How do I open a file with a program via a shortcut from the cmd prompt

    Here's my predicament: When I add a program's location to my PATH, I can do the following in cmd prompt to open a file in my current directory: notepad++ open_me.txt And this opens open_me.txt in notepad++. However, I don't want to have to add every single program I want to run to my path. What I want is to add a folder called C:\Users\Me\Documents\Programs to my path and just drop shortcuts to various programs into that folder and have them function the same as adding them to my path. So I dropped a link to notepad++.exe named "np" in my folder, and what I got was this: I have to run it with start np (instead of just np) But more importantly, if I try start np open_me.txt, it opens notepad++.exe but looks for open_me.txt in notepad++'s directory. How can I do this properly? (Also, I'd like to be opening notepad++.exe with the shortened name of np)

This is my first question, so any tips or thoughts are welcome, as well as an answer :p As explained in title, i want to create a script that launches, finds a file on android phone, copies it, and pastes it to a flash drive. As of right now, it's a mix of multiple tutorials, trial and error, and I'm at a point of giving up. As of right now, I have a flash drive, loaded with three scripts. Then run this scrip. Yes i'm trying to pull the database to copy all my email contacts. I use launch.bat, which then makes file.bat invisible due to the invisible.vbs script. What would i need to do now to have the file searched for and copied to the flashdrive?     Let's say there are some folder in the D: drive: D:\Air D:\Abonden D:\All D:\Whatever I want to delete all folders starting with "A" (including all subfolders and files). I tried this command: rmdir D:\A* /s /q I get an error, though :( The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. The del command works with *, but I need to delete folders as well. Is there a way to achieve that via the rmdir command?

    Currently I have a .bat file that opens a program, opens a document and then reloads this document so it contains new data. After that I need a timeout so it can run some other things within the document which takes about 2 minutes in total, but for safety I used 5 minutes. Then I want it to save the document and close the program. I've searched a lot for this but I can't find anything that saves the document and then closes it. Only can find how to save a bat file, but I already have that! But I need to find this line: 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.49.73.1 10.49.73.24 10 So I tried to modify the findstr parameter like this: findstr "\<0.0.0.0\>.\<0.0.0.0\>" in the expectation that '.' will match for the tab between the columns. But it doesn't. It will still set DefaultGateway to 10.8.0.1 I couldn't find a clue in MS documentation either. Maybe someone knows the right expression? Thanks a lot.

  • Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file

    Is there a way to enable/disable a wireless network interface via the command line (so I can put it in a bat file)? When I'm in the office I use a wired connection, but Windows still occasionally bugs me about my wireless connection not being connected (even though I turned off the option for notifying me when there's no connectivity). I'm guessing the only way to stop it from bugging me is to disable the interface, but I'd rather not have to go into the network settings every time I need to do so. I'd like to set up a bat file or a shortcut that I can use to enable/disable the wireless (preferably a single one that toggles the current state), and then just set up a keyboard shortcut for that. I just have no idea how to do so from the command line.

  • Remove USB device from command line

    I'm constructing a backup script for Windows 7, and the last action I want it to perform is to safely "remove" the USB drive that it is backing up to. I am under the impression that plugging the drive into the SAME USB port all the time will keep the same DEV_ID, correct me if I'm wrong. With a Command Line (or PowerShell), how can I tell Windows to safely remove the hardware automatically without user input? Just as a place holder, other OSes that may have a way to do this would be great to know as well
