  • In what way I can implement packet filtering function in C++/C#?

    - by Network study
Background: I am going to design a firewall-like application (with GUI) which will include several functions such as Packet sniffing and packet filtering. Both of the functions should be implemented to support different protocol levels including application, transport, network and link layer. I only know a little in C#.Net programming to perform the IP packet sniffing. It is also known that packet filtering requires the techniques in WFP or LSP and packet sniffing in application requires dll hooking. Questions: I am not sure which programming language(either C++ or C#) would be suitable for designing such an application described above. If I want to implement the packet filtering function, any libraries will be needed? edit01: Someone suggest that winDivert would be helpful, is it true?

  • does glBindAttribLocation silently ignore names not found in a shader?

    - by rwols
    Does glBindAttribLocation silently ignore names that are not found? For example, in a shader: // Some vertex shader in vec3 position; in vec3 normal; // ... And in some set up code: // While setting up shader GLuint program = glCreateProgram(); glBindAttribLocation(program, 0, "position"); glBindAttribLocation(program, 1, "normal"); glBindAttribLocation(program, 2, "color"); // What about this one? glLinkProgram(program);

  • game programming career, vc++ reference and future of it [closed]

    - by Pappu Bacha
    1) I have quite a lot of interest in game programming and I (to my thought) am quite good at programming skills, I have developed some console based animations and text based animation games (like copter-it, snake, and a music visualization), should I invest in game programming? I have 2 years at college left. 2) If I am to pursue a career in game programming, and I select to go only with c++ and DirectX, is it enough? is assembly language necessary? 3) is Visual C++ or MFC dead? should I invest in it or not? 4) I am unable to find any reference book for Visual C++ 2008 or later (just like C++ the complete reference book) I need a book that covers the basic fundamentals and covers the most of the libraries etc.

  • How to check if a variable is an integer? [closed]

    - by FyrePlanet
    I'm going through my C++ book and have currently made a working Guess The Number game. The game generates a random number based on current time, has the user input their guess, and then tells them whether it was too high, too low, or the correct number. The game functions fine if you enter a number, but returns 'Too High' if you enter something that is not a number (such as a letter or punctuation). Not only does it return 'too high', but it also continually returns it. I was wondering what I could do to check if the guess, as input by the user, is an integer and if it is not, to return 'Not a number. Guess again.' Here is the code. #include <iostream> #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> using namespace std; int main() { srand(time(0)); // seed the random number generator int theNumber = rand() % 100 + 1; // random number between 1 and 100 int tries = 0, guess; cout << "\tWelcome to Guess My Number!\n\n"; do { cout << "Enter a guess: "; cin >> guess; ++tries; if (guess > theNumber) cout << "Too high!\n\n"; if (guess < theNumber) cout << "Too low!\n\n"; } while (guess != theNumber); cout << "\nThat's it! You got it in " << tries << " guesses!\n"; cout << "\nPress Enter to exit.\n"; cin.ignore(cin.rdbuf()->in_avail() + 1); return 0; }

  • Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 5.3 now available

    - by user12609056
Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 5.3 The Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool Team is happy to announce the availability of release 5.3.  This release addresses bugs discovered since the release of 5.2 plus enhancements to support Oracle Solaris 11 and updates to Oracle Solaris versions 7 through 10. The packages are available on My Oracle Support - simply search for Patch 13365310 to find the downloadable packages. Release Notes General blast support The blast GUI has been removed and is no longer supported. Oracle Solaris 2.6 Support As of Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 5.3, support for Oracle Solaris 2.6 has been dropped. If you have systems running Solaris 2.6, you will need to use Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 5.2 or earlier to read its crash dumps. New Commands Sanity Command Though one can re-run the sanity checks that are run at tool start-up using the coreinfo command, many users were unaware that they were. Though these checks can still be run using that command, a new command, namely sanity, can now be used to re-run the checks at any time. Interface Changes scat_explore -r and -t option The -r option has ben added to scat_explore so that a base directory can be specified and the -t op[tion was added to enable color taggging of the output. The scat_explore sub-command now accepts new options. Usage is: scat --scat_explore [-atv] [-r base_dir] [-d dest] [unix.N] [vmcore.]N Where: -v Verbose Mode: The command will print messages highlighting what it's doing. -a Auto Mode: The command does not prompt for input from the user as it runs. -d dest Instructs scat_explore to save it's output in the directory dest instead of the present working directory. -r base_dir Instructs scat_explore to save it's under the directory base_dir instead of the present working directory. If it is not specified using the -d option, scat_explore names it's output file as "scat_explore_system_name_hostid_lbolt_value_corefile_name." -t Enable color tags. When enabled, scat_explore tags important text with colors that match the level of importance. These colors correspond to the color normally printed when running Oracle Solaris Crash Analysis Tool in interactive mode. Tag Name Definition FATAL An extremely important message which should be investigated. WARNING A warning that may or may not have anything to do with the crash. ERROR An error, usually printer with a suggested command ALERT Used to indicate something the tool discovered. INFO Purely informational message INFO2 A follow-up to an INFO tagged message REDZONE Usually used when prnting memory info showing something is in the kernel's REDZONE. N The number of the crash dump. Specifying unix.N vmcore.N is optional and not required. Example: $ scat --scat_explore -a -v -r /tmp vmcore.0 #Output directory: /tmp/scat_explore_oomph_833a2959_0x28800_vmcore.0 #Tar filename: scat_explore_oomph_833a2959_0x28800_vmcore.0.tar #Extracting crash data... #Gathering standard crash data collections... #Panic string indicates a possible hang... #Gathering Hang Related data... #Creating tar file... #Compressing tar file... #Successful extraction SCAT_EXPLORE_DATA_DIR=/tmp/scat_explore_oomph_833a2959_0x28800_vmcore.0 Sending scat_explore results The .tar.gz file that results from a scat_explore run may be sent using Oracle Secure File Transfer. The Oracle Secure File Transfer User Guide describes how to use it to send a file. The send_scat_explore script now has a -t option for specifying a to address for sending the results. This option is mandatory. Known Issues There are a couple known issues that we are addressing in release 5.4, which you should expect to see soon: Display of timestamps in threads and clock information is incorrect in some cases. There are alignment issues with some of the tables produced by the tool.

  • Solaris Administration Web GUI?

    - by Robert C
I recently installed Solaris 11 x86 text install (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen) to be used as a file server running ZFS. I noticed that I'm given the bare minimum in terms of packages. Is there an official oracle web GUI for managing ZFS? I ran a netstat and it doesn't appear to have installed any webserver thats listening. I saw something from a couple years ago, but apparently it's not packaged or maintained anymore (https://blogs.oracle.com/talley/entry/manage_zfs_from_your_browser). I tried pkg install network-console, but it says that the package isn't available for my platform. Any ideas? I'd like to stick with Oracle Solaris instead of the open source alternatives, if possible.

  • monitoring TCP/IP performance on Solaris

    - by Andy Faibishenko
I am trying to tune a high message traffic system running on Solaris. The architecture is a large number (600) of clients which connect via TCP to a big Solaris server and then send/receive relatively small messages (.5 to 1K payload) at high rates. The goal is to minimize the latency of each message processed. I suspect that the TCP stack of the server is getting overwhelmed by all the traffic. What are some commands/metrics that I can use to confirm this, and in case this is true, what is the best way to alleviate this bottleneck?

  • postfix/postdrop Issue with Solaris 10 (sparc) - permissions

    - by Zayne
I am trying to get postfix (installed from blastwave) working on a Solaris 10 server, but only root is allowed to send mail. The problem appears to be permission related with postdrop. postdrop: warning: mail_queue_enter: create file maildrop/905318.27416: Permission denied I've checked that /var/opt/csw/spool/postfix/maildrop and /var/opt/csw/spool/postfix/public are both in the 'postdrop' group. main.cf contains setgid_group = postdrop. ppriv on postdrop as non-root user reports: postdrop[27336]: missing privilege "file_dac_write" (euid = 103, syscall = 5) needed at ufs_iaccess+0x110 I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I'm don't have much experience with Solaris; I use Linux daily. Any suggestions?

One person suggested snoop and dtrace. dtrace seems pretty general - are there any additional pointers on how to use it to diagnose TCP issues?

  • Minimum Requirements for (open) Solaris?

    - by Electrons_Ahoy
I'm thinking about knocking together a Solaris box at home to act as a combination server and learning exercise. What are the minimum hardware specs I can throw at it such that it'll be actually usable? I'd be cobbling the machine together from a stack of various x86 PC spares/leftovers. Does anyone have experience with Solaris at the lower end of the spectrum? The Sun site, for example, claims it'll run with as little as 255 megs of ram, but is it worth the exercise with less than a gig? Will my old Pentium II 450 cut the mustard? (I'm willing to throw a couple of bucks at pricewatch/mwave/newegg on this, but if I need to build a better rig than my main PC, I may not bother.)

  • how to make solaris more friendly for a linux user

    - by user10015
Hi there, I've been a linux user for years. Very used to the bash shell, used to linux shell key mappings that come with most mainstream distros. I'm also a happy vim user in linux & love my arrow keys. Just started a job where 90% of the systems are solaris & the default shell for administrators is ksh. The key mappings, things like autocomplete & history not working they way they should and is driving me insane. I've been told that i can change solaris bash, but it still doesn't feel like linux. How do I make things run they way I'm used to? Can someone please put me in the right direction.

  • Windows user trying install Git on Solaris

    - by nahab
Is there simply way to install Git on Solaris as on Windows without installing any side libraries and compiling source files? And if not, why? UPD. Yes I'm looking for single package that will be easy to install. We have ~8 solaris zones using for development those we need simple way to install git fast on they. Installation should be easy because each member of team possibly will be do it and it should be fast because of big count of zones.

  • Mounting Solaris UFS partition on Debian(with FreeBSD kernel)

    - by hayalci
I have some disks that were being used on a Solaris system. The disks are formatted as UFS. I attached them to a Debian system (with FreeBSD kernel. Debian/kFreeBSD), but I cannot mount them. $ mount -t ufs /dev/da2s1 /mnt/diska mount: /dev/da2s1 : Invalid argument Also the tunefs.ufs does not work; $ tunefs.ufs -p /dev/da2s1 tunefs.ufs: /dev/da2s1: could not read superblock to fill out disk Is there an incompatibility between FreeBSD UFS and Solaris UFS? Is it possible to mount one, under the other OS ? Note: tunefs.ufs works on the root partition $ tunefs.ufs -p /dev/da7s2 tunefs.ufs: ACLs: (-a) disabled tunefs.ufs: MAC multilabel: (-l) disabled tunefs.ufs: soft updates: (-n) disabled tunefs.ufs: gjournal: (-J) disabled tunefs.ufs: maximum blocks per file in a cylinder group: (-e) 2048 tunefs.ufs: average file size: (-f) 16384 tunefs.ufs: average number of files in a directory: (-s) 64 tunefs.ufs: minimum percentage of free space: (-m) 8% tunefs.ufs: optimization preference: (-o) time tunefs.ufs: volume label: (-L)

  • solaris + match the network device name according to IP address

    - by yael
how to find the device name as ( e1000g2 , e1000g3 , etc ) according to his IP address on Solaris machine for example ifconfig -a | grep 10.106.134.133 inet 10.106.134.133 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.106.134.255 ifconfig with grep command view only the line with the IP address , and the device name appears before the IP address so my target is to match the device name according to the IP address on Solaris machine , and then insert the device name in to parameter ( ksh ) please advice? full example: from ifconfig -a ( I get the IP and device name , what I need is to find the device name according to IP address , and insert the device name in to parameter ) e1000g2: flags=201000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 inet 10.106.134.133 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.106.134.255

  • BASH_ENV ignored on solaris?

    - by Peeter Joot
In my .bash_profile, executed for both my interactive and non-interactive logins are BASH_ENV=$HOME/.myinteractivestuff export BASH_ENV doing this for bash on Linux works fine, but on Solaris is not sourced: bash --version GNU bash, version 3.00.16(1)-release (sparc-sun-solaris2.10) Curiously, if I invoke screen within my login shell, BASH_ENV is then read. Are any restrictions on when $BASH_ENV is respected on Solaris? In my case I'm logging in with ssh using putty, but also tried unix to unix ssh, and telnet and see the same. Note that I know that my BASH_ENV variable assignment is being executed since I can echo this variable after login without any trouble (ie: ruling out the obvious possibility that my .bash_profile is also not being read).

  • Cannot connect Solaris 10 to Windows 7

    - by user999353
I'm trying to connect a Solaris VM (powered by VMware Player) to Windows Explorer in Windows 7. When I try to map the network drive I get the following: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. I am using the following URL which has worked on a machine I used before. The only thing that has changed is the IP address of the Solaris machine. I am able to connect to the VM via putty. \\1.2.3.4\xxx\yyy I checked and I think samba is running.. root 375 1 0 09:53:39 ? 0:00 /usr/sfw/sbin/smbd -D root 376 375 0 09:53:40 ? 0:00 /usr/sfw/sbin/smbd –D Anyone any ideas?

  • You Don't Want to Meet Orgad Kimchi in a Dark Alley

    - by rickramsey
source Do you remember what those bad guys in the old Charles Bronson films looked like? They looked like Orgad Kimchi, that's what they looked like. When I met him at Oracle OpenWorld 2012, I realized I didn't want to meet him in the wrong alleyway of Budapest after dark. Neither do old versions of Oracle Solaris, which Orgad bends to his will with as much ease as he probably bends stray tourists to his will in Budapest, Kandahar, or Dagestan. How Orgad Made Oracle Database Migrate from Oracle Solaris 8 to Oracle Solaris 11 In this article, which we liked so much we reprinted it from his blog (please don't tell him!), Orgad explains how he head-butted an Oracle Database into submission. The database thought it was safe running in Oracle Solaris 8, but Orgad dragged its whimpering carcas into Oracle Solaris 11. How'd he do that? Well, if you had met Orgad in person, you wouldn't ask that question. Because you'd know he could have simply stared at it, and the database would have migrated on its own. But Orgad didn't do that. Instead, he stuffed an Oracle Solaris 8 Physical-to-Virtual (P2V) Archiver Tool into his leather trench coat, the one with the special pockets sown in by the East German Secret Police for several Uzis and their ammo, and walked into his data center in a way that reminded the survivors of this clip from Matrix Reloaded. The end result? The Oracle Database 10.2 that was running on Oracle Solaris 8 is now running inside a Solaris 10 branded zone in Oracle Solaris 11. With no complaints. Don't make Orgad angry. • saslauthd + PostFix producing password verification and authentication errors

    - by Aram Papazian
So I'm trying to setup PostFix while using SASL (Cyrus variety preferred, I was using dovecot earlier but I'm switching from dovecot to courier so I want to use cyrus instead of dovecot) but I seem to be having issues. The password in 'users' is set through the 'ENCRYPT()' function. I also followed the methods found in http://www.jimmy.co.at/weblog/?p=52 in order to redo /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd as that seems to be a lot of people's problems, but that didn't help at all. Also, here is my /etc/default/saslauthd START=yes DESC="SASL Authentication Daemon" NAME="saslauthd" # Which authentication mechanisms should saslauthd use? (default: pam) # # Available options in this Debian package: # getpwent -- use the getpwent() library function # kerberos5 -- use Kerberos 5 # pam -- use PAM # rimap -- use a remote IMAP server # shadow -- use the local shadow password file # sasldb -- use the local sasldb database file # ldap -- use LDAP (configuration is in /etc/saslauthd.conf) # # Only one option may be used at a time. See the saslauthd man page # for more information. # # Example: MECHANISMS="pam" MECHANISMS="pam" MECH_OPTIONS="" THREADS=5 OPTIONS="-c -m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r" I had heard that potentially changing MECHANISM to MECHANISMS="mysql" but obviously that didn't help as is shown by the options listed above and also by trying it out anyway in case the documentation was outdated. So, I'm now at a loss... I have no idea where to go from here or what steps I need to do to get this working =/ Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: Here is the error that is coming from auth.log ... I don't know if this will help at all, but here you go: Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql auxprop plugin using mysql engine Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: begin transaction Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin create statement from userPassword user xxxxxx.com Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin doing query select crypt from users where id = '[email protected]'; Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin create statement from cmusaslsecretPLAIN user xxxxxx.com Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin doing query select crypt from users where id = '[email protected]'; Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: commit transaction Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1' Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: begin transaction Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin create statement from userPassword user xxxxxx.com Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin doing query select crypt from users where id = '[email protected]'; Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin create statement from cmusaslsecretPLAIN user xxxxxx.com Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin doing query select crypt from users where id = '[email protected]'; Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: commit transaction Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin Parse the username [email protected] Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin try and connect to a host Aug 11 17:19:56 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[9503]: sql plugin trying to open db 'maildb' on host '127.0.0.1'

  • SPARC Solaris Momentum

    - by Mike Mulkey-Oracle
Following up on the Oracle Solaris 11.2 launch on April 29th, if you were able to watch the launch event, you saw Mark Hurd state that Oracle will be No. 1 in high-end computing systems "in a reasonable time frame”.  "This is not a 3-year vision," he continued.Well, According to IDC's latest 1QCY14 Tracker, Oracle has regained the #1 UNIX Shipments Marketshare! You can see the report and read about it here: Oracle regains the #1 UNIX Shipments Marketshare, but suffice to say that SPARC Solaris is making strong gains on the competition.  If you have seen the public roadmap through 2019 of Oracle's commitment to continue to deliver on this technology, you can see that Mark Hurd’s comment was not to be taken lightly.  We feel the systems tide turning in Oracle's direction and are working hard to show our partner community the value of being a part of the SPARC Solaris momentum. We are now planning for the Solaris 11.2 GA in late summer (11.2 beta is available now), as well as doing early preparations for Oracle OpenWorld 2014 on September 28th.  Stay tuned there! Here is a sampling of the coverage highlights around the Oracle Solaris 11.2 launch:“Solaris is still one of the most advanced platforms in the enterprise.” – ITBusinessEdge“Oracle is serious about clouds now, just as its customers are, whether they are building them in their own datacenters or planning to use public clouds.” – EnterpriseTech"Solaris is more about a layer of an integrated system than an operating system.” — ZDNet

  • Public Solaris/SPARC roadmap until 2015

    - by Karim Berrah
It now public, and give you a nice overview on what's going on, where Oracle is going with Solaris and SPARC processors. It's now available from here. What can we lean from this roadmap ? well, if you look carefully: Oracle is announcing Solaris 11 this year. The release date should be ... check OOW11 Solaris 10 updates should still be released in 2012 (remember, released in 2005). Check the Solaris lifecycle to understand how long is Solaris to stay side by side with Solaris 11. in 2011, a great 3x Single Strand improvement for the T-Series. Some thing great under preparation. Probably revealed at Oracle Open World 2011. Good news for ISVs ! in 2012, a great 6x Troughput improvement for the M-Serie ! How can this be done ? .... Nearly everything on the SPARC/SOLARIS level is said through the public roadmap, but as you know the evil is in the details ;)

  • Is This How the Execs React to Your Recommendations?

    - by rickramsey
Well then, do your homework next time! The friendly folks on the Solaris team have made that a little easier. They have put together a list of resources to help you evaluate Oracle Solaris 11. Evaluating Oracle Solaris 11 The've got demos. They've got podcasts. They have content to find out what's involved in upgrading from Oracle Solaris 10. Content to find out how to migrate from a different OS. Plus a link to the Pre-flight checker and the Solaris 11 Cheat Sheet. And more. All in one place. So if you decide Solaris 11 is not for you, you'll be able to explain why. And if you decide that Solaris 11 is right for you, you'll have the facts to back up your decision. • Retrieving Top 10 rows ans sum all others in row 11

    - by Mario
Hello all, I have the following query that retrieve the number of users per country; SELECT C.CountryID AS CountryID, C.CountryName AS Country, Count(FirstName) AS Origin FROM Users AS U INNER JOIN Country AS C ON C.CountryID = U.CountryOfOrgin GROUP BY CASE C.CountryName, C.CountryID What I need is a way to get the top 10 and then sum all other users in a single row. I know how to get the top 10 but I`m stuck on getting the remaining in a single row. Is there a simple way to do it? For example if the above query returns 17 records the top ten are displayed and a sum of the users from the 7 remaining country should appear on row 11. On that row 11 the countryid would be 0 and countryname Others Thanks for your help!
