    Pretty basic question, however, I am very new to jQuery and javascript in general. I have a jQuery validation that is requiring a text box to have text in it, if a checkbox is checked. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("form").validate( { rules: { Comments: { required: "#IsAbnormal:checked" } }, messages: { Comments: { required: "Comments are required" } }, onkeyup: false, wrapper: "", errorLabelContainer: "#ErrorMessageBox" }); }); Pretty straight forward, if you check the IsAbnormal checkbox, it will throw a validation if there are no comments. What I am trying to do is require a textbox based on if another text box has any text in it, for instance require the old password if a user enters a new password into a textbox. Is there an easy way to get the required: "#NewPassword:NotBlank" to work?

    Hello! I have two tables of activities on a page: Views & Comments. Views id timestamp project_id user_id page_id Comments id timestamp project_id user_id page_id comment Pages id project_id title Now pages are related to projects: Projects id account_id title I am trying to create a summary page that combines views and comments ordered by time (so that the most recent views/comments are at the beginning, grouped by projects. Also, only projects for a specific account. So the result could potentially be: Project 1 View 5 (June 20th) View 4 (June 18th) Comment 5 (June 15th) Comment 4 (June 14th) Comment 3 (June 12th) Project 3 View 3 (June 10th) View 2 (June 8th) Comment 2 (June 7th) Project 2 View 1 (June 5th) Comment 1 (June 4th) If you could help with how to do this using SQL (or even doctrine) that would be awesome.   • Which type of Rails model association should I use in this situation?

    I have two models/tables in my Rails application: discussions and comments. Each discussion has_many comments, and each comment belongs_to a discussion. My discussions table also includes a first_comment_id column and last_comment_id column for convenience and speed. I want to be able to call discussion.last_comment for the last comment model, but the following (in my discussion model) isn't working to make this happen: has_one :first_comment, :class_name => "Comment" has_one :last_comment, :class_name => "Comment" When I call discussion.last_comment, the following SQL is run: SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (`comments`.discussion_id = 1) LIMIT 1 It's using the discussions.id column to join against comments.discussion_id, when I want it to join discussions.last_comment_id against comments.id. Am I using the wrong type of association here? Thanks for your help!

  • Customized generation/filtering resources with maven

    I wonder what is the Maven way in my situation. My application has a bunch of configuration files, let's call them profiles. Each profile configuration file is a *.properties file, that contains keys/values and some comments on these keys/values semantics. The idea is to generate these *.properties to have unified comments in all of them. My plan is to create a template.properties file that contains something like #Comments for key1/value1 key1=${key1.value} #Comments for key2/value2 key2=${key2.value} and a bunch of files like #profile_data_1.properties key1.value=profile_1_key_1_value key2.value=profile_1_key_2_value #profile_data_2.properties key1.value=profile_2_key_1_value key2.value=profile_2_key_2_value Then bind to generate-resources phase to create a copy of template.properties per profile_data_*, and filter that copy with profile_data_*.properties as a filter. The easiest way is probably to create an ant build file and use antrun plugin. But that is not a Maven way, is it? Other option is to create a Maven plugin for that tiny task. Somehow, I don't like that idea (plugin deployment is not what I want very much).

Question has_many comments Answers has_many comments Questions has_many votes answers has_many votes comments has_many votes Here are the models (only relevant things) class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :commentable, :polymorphic => true has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy end class Question < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments, :as => :commentable, :dependent => :destroy has_many :answers, :dependent => :destroy has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy end class Vote < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :votable, :polymorphic => true end class Answer < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :question, :counter_cache => true has_many :comments, :as => :commentable , :dependent => :destroy end Now the problem is whenever i am trying to delete any question/answer/comment its giving me an error NoMethodError in QuestionsController#destroy undefined method `each' for 0:Fixnum if i remove this line from any of the model (question/answer/comment) has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy then it works perfectly. It seems there is a problem while deleting the records active record is not able to find out the proper path because of multiple joins within the tables.

So each comment may have a parent comment etc. Given table "Comments": CommentId - int - identity autoincrement PostId - int ParentId - int Comment - string Is there a way to get a list of comments for a given article ordered by CreateDate and ParentId? Or maybe there is a better table design you may suggest. What is the best design when inserting Post comments like this? I'm using Entity framework. thanks

Any help to solve this issue is really appreciated.

Here's what I have so far: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT `user_id`) FROM `comments` WHERE `created_at` BETWEEN DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 7 DAY) AND NOW() This would give the number of users that have commented, but it would not take into consideration whether these comments are first for these users.

  • Commenting system for CakePHP blog tutorial

    I'm building off the CakePHP tutorial for the blog engine by adding comments to each post. I am able to add comments by selecting the post that it should be attached to, via a select box. I would like to be able to click an "Add Comment" link within the post and have the association to the post formed programatically. I am unsure how I can pass the post_id to the add method within my comments_controller. The body of my add method is the auto-generated scaffold code. Is it as easy as adding a $postId argument to the add method and write this to the post_id in my comments model? This doesn't feel right though, since I would expect add to be called when my submit button is click on my comments add view. Thanks all.

  • How can I improve this SQL to avoid several problems with its results?

    I am having some problems with trying to search. Currently this will only return results that have at least 1 row in the maintenance_parts table. I would like it to return results even if there are 0 parts rows. My second problem is that when you search for a vehicle and it should return multiple results (multiple maintenance rows) it will only return 1 result for that vehicle. Some Background Info: The user has 2 fields to fill out. The fields are vehicle and keywords. The vehicle field is meant to allow searching based on the make, model, VIN, truck number (often is 2 - 3 digits or a letter prefix followed by 2 digits), and a few other fields that belong to the truck table. The keywords are meant to search most fields in the maintenance and maintenance_parts tables (things like the description of the work, parts name, parts number). The maintenance_parts table can contain 0, 1, or more rows for each maintenance row. The truck table contains exactly 1 row for every maintenance row. A truck can have multiple maintenance records.     Hi, I'm trying to create an app like a blog, with 3 models: user, post and comment. As expected, a comment belongs to both a user and a post. I used the following associations: User.rb has_many :comments has_many :posts Post.rb has_many :comments belongs_to :user Comment.rb belongs_to :user belongs_to :post And I tried to create comments using: @user.comments.create However, this will relate the comment with user, but not with post. I want the comment to be associated wit BOTH user and post. Is there a way to do so? Or did I use the wrong associations? I think it might be a bad practice to set the user_id or post_id by hand, so both ids are not in attr_accessible. I'm not sure if it is correct. Thank you!

  • PDF reviewer in C# (ASP.NET/Silverlight?)

    Hi. I'm essentially planning to mimic the comment functions on PDF files, but online. That is; a user should be able to log in and upload a PDF file, and then numerous different users should be able to add comments etc to this same file (and view the file, with comments, online). External libraries are ok. Free obviously preferred, but commercial ones are fine if they provide a lot of the needed functionality. Note that this is meant to be used in a commercial environment. Comments don't necessarily need to be able to be exported from the site. I.e. if the comments are just put as a layer on top of a PDF file (and not in the actual file) that's ok. But obviously the more export functionality the better. I have looked at a few libraries (using the related questions and google) and while I find some that seem to do sort of what I want I'm not sure they are the bee's knees plus I would like to do as much myself as possible. The three basic approaches I've thought of is: Use some sort of native PDF viewing and then just smack down a layer on top of it where you can move around comments etc. Convert PDFs to HTML and work from there. Problem here it would either require proper PDFs (e.g. non-scanned) or really good OCR which seems a bit tedious. Convert PDFs to images and work from there. I'm afraid this will create massive images however. We're talking PDFs that can be hundreds of pages. One option would of course to just display one PDF page (image) at a time. And last - should I look at Silverlight for this or go with ASP.NET? Ideas and input concerning this project are much appreciated.

This is the join in the model function com_control(){ $this->db->select('*'); $this->db->from('comments'); $this->db->join('posts', 'comments.entry_id = posts.id'); $query = $this->db->get(); return $query->result; } My desired method of display is going to be in a table so I am starting out to use like this foreach($comm_control as $row){ $this->table->add_row( $row->entry_id, $row->comments.id, $row->comment, $row->title ); }//end of foreach My problem is the display of data from comments.id. What is the proper format to add the comment.id into the table rows? I need the ID from both tables for display, edit and delete further on in the table. The only display I get at this time for "comment.id" is the word id. The Any help would be appreciated.

  • JavaScript Fails to load content correctly on start

    I have inherited an image gallery constructed using javascript. I believe it uses a variation of JQuery, but it seems to have been heavily edited. The gallery loads the first image on page load. Each image has comments below them. There are forward and backward arrows that move between images. The problem I seem to have is that if there is a comment on image one, it is not loaded on page start, the only way to get it to display is to click forward to the next image, then click back to image one. The comment is then shown. All the comments are loaded into a script in the header under var sent_comments = [{COMMENTS}] The comment HTML code on loading is as follows; <div id="comments_container"> <div id="comments"> </div> </div> Once I have clicked to image two and then back to image one, the code is; <div id="comments_container"> <div id="comments"> SOME COMMENT </div> </div> Previous image button is: <a class="prev save_state" href="#"> <img src="/next.png?" alt="Next"> </a> Im new to javascript so not really sure what I will need to do to ensure the comment is loaded for the first image when the page loads.
