• Why are a visual studio project's command-line settings stored per user? Is it OK to check-in (and

  We're creating an application that understands some command-line parameters. There are some default's we would like to supply on the command-line when debugging, and these are easily set in the project settings as explained here. The thing is visual studio stores these settings in a *.csproj.user file, and the default settings for integrated source control do not check-in *.user files. We would like to just have these default command-line parameters in everyone's IDE when debugging this project. Often (but not always) when visual studio guides you into doing things a certain way it is for good reason. We probably don't want to just check-in someone's .csproj.user file... right? This question is has a few parts: Why does Visual Studio store this particular setting per user? Is there a way to alter this behavior? - Would doing so bring bad juju? Under these circumstances is it OK to check-in and share a .user file? Is there a better way to accomplish what we are trying to do here? Thank you -

• Linux SW Raid: whole disk or per-partition?

  I have inherited a machine which has 2 physical disks and uses Linux SW RAID(1). Both disks are partitioned and are are all individual arrays (/dev/md0, /dev/md6, etc.). Those arrays are then mounted (/boot, /home, etc. even /tmp). As RAID is designed to mitigate physical failures, is there any reason why one would use this technique over whole-disk arrays that are then partitioned (perhaps using LVM)? This seems prone to more potential issues, but may have some special properties that I haven't been able to glean. I'm planning on moving this setup to: disks?SWRAID(1)?LVM as I'll be making multiple VMs out of the one machine, but wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing when I got rid of the old setup.

  all. My company host all the software, including application and website in one local ubuntu server. But recently we start to use Amazon EC2, and want to move the whole server to cloud. Is there anyway to copy the entire server to EC2? OS is the same, ubuntu 12.04, and just one server, and one user account. On EC2 is also one instance, one account. I don't know whether there is a simple and quick way to do that. Thanks a lot!!

  I am trying to use MATCH() and/or LOOKUP() in LibreOffice Calc. I have the "Search criteria = and < must apply to whole cells" and the "Enable regular expressions in formulas" options selected. The item I am looking for is a multi word string. How do I provide a search criteria as a cell reference (E3) in to LOOKUP(E3, B1:B20, C1:C20) and have it match the value in B1:B20 EXACTLY? Right now it is matching partial strings rather than matching the cell values exactly.

  Hi There, I've got a set of tools which periodically (about once a day) generate a complete set of static HTML pages for a site with associated folder structure etc. I then need to put those file onto the production server, my problem is that the server runs IIS(6 I think) and I only have regular FTP access. I need a way to automate the process of publishing the new site and it needs to a total replacement of the files each time its published, eg delete the whole folder & contents then put the new ones up. My source server is a ubuntu machine and I've got total control at that end, I have tried using CurlFTpFS but it seems to be too slow for what I'm trying to do and locks up. Rgds Sam

• PGP Desktop Whole disk Encryption paused on a toshiba ultrabook z935

  I have a Toshiba z930 Ultrabook with PGP Desktop installed for whole disk encryption. It installed correctly, and started encrypting but it stays paused. If I reboot, it shows me the PGP desktop username, password, domain screen. If I enter in my credentials, it allows me to get into windows but encryption remains paused. If I click on resume, it lets me enter a password, accepts it but then it doesn't do anything. One suspicious thing is that in the 'Select disk or partition to encrypt' box, it says, C: 120B fixed disk. Unknown Bus: TOSHIBA THNSNS12... Do I need to change something in the BIOS, or install any drivers so that it doesn't see it as an Unknown Bus?

• How to change a function/formula in a whole column where I also have empty cells

  I have a column with a formula/function that has other cells as parameters. However in the column, every few rows I have a subtotal and blanks, for readability. Now I decided to change the formula/function but I can not do copy+paste on the whole column because of the subtotals/blank cells, and I can not do change+replace because there are parameters in the functions that uses other cells and thus it is different in each cell in the column. For example, if the formula is =if(A5>24,1,"") and I want to change it to =AA_userfn(A5,B5) Any idea how to change it easily? currently I copy+paste few rows at a time, but that is tedious. Maybe a Sub that will go all over the column (the column number as an input parameter) and looks for =if(, and then replaces it with =aa_userfn(Ax, By) where Ax and By are calculated based on the position of the cell currently changed in reference to the previous values in that cell. Any ideas will be welcomed

  Supposing I know that someFile.php contains the definition for someFunction(). How would I go about displaying the whole body of the function in stdout? If I know that the body is 10 lines long then I would use cat someFile.php | grep -A 10 "function someFunction" [1] but in reality the function could be any arbitrary length. I figured that with sed I could use Vimesque commands such as /function someFunction<Return>/{<Return>% [2] but I can't figure out exactly how to format it. Ideally, the PHPDoc before the function would be output along with the function. Any help or links to the appropriate fine manual would be appreciated. Thanks!   I recently switched from bash to zsh. In bash one way (besides recursive search) that I used to find previously-run commands was history | grep whatever, where whatever is the bit of command I remember. In zsh, this isn't working. history returns only a few items, even though my .zsh_history file contains many entries, which I have configured it to do. How can I output my whole history, suitable for searching with grep? (Note: I started out using ryanb's dotfiles, so perhaps it's a problem with his default settings?)

  I'm trying to do this: make a symlink of a whole directory "C:/Master", in different folders like "C:\Projects\Alpha\", "C:\Projects\Beta\" an so on. "Master" directory usually changes in files and data. I work on the "Projects/*", where every project folder uses the "Master" files, but every one has new files in them. Let's say, I point to the car engine in every project folder, and inside them I add different kind of wheels. The problem I'm having, as a Windows 8 user, is that symlinks (junction) acts as a window to "Master" - I'm not allowed to add any file inside. I looking a way to reference the entire "Master" directory, and add new files - not edit any of the "Master" ones. It's as described here, but on Windows.

  I am thinking about putting my whole linux server under version control using git. The reason behind it being that that might be the easiest way to detect malicious modifications/rootkits. All I would naively think is necessary to check the integrity of the system: Mount the linux partition every week or so using a rescue system, check if the git repository is still untempered and then issue a git status to detect any changes made to the system. Apart from the obvious waste in disk space, are there any other negative side-effects? Is it a totally crazy idea? Is it even a secure way to check against rootkits since I most likely would have to at least exclude /dev and /proc ?

  Is there any way I can upload whole folders to my Dropbox account without the desktop application? I am syncing my home computer to a computer at university and the university computers do not allow users to install applications anywhere, meaning that I cannot use the Dropbox utility to share my folders. I've attempted to use the online utility (on the website) to share my files, but much of my work is spanned over dozens of files all within their own folders. All you can do with the upload feature on the website is upload files and for my projects this would take a long time.

  I am drawing a line in XNA which I want to never end. I also have a tool that moves forward in X-direction and a camera which is centered at this tool. However, when I reach the end of the viewport the lines are not drawn anymore. Here are some pictures to illustrate my problem: At the start the line goes across the whole screen, but as my tool moves forward, we reach the end of the line.   I am a beginner in OpenGL and tried to write my first program to draw some points and a line. I can see that the window opens with white background but no line is drawn.   Short version: How can I prevent a spawned Java process in Windows from blocking the spawning process from ending? Long version: I'm trying to spawn a multi-threaded Java program (Selenium RC, not that it should matter) from a program launched from the Windows command line (NAnt's <exec> task, again, not that it should matter). I'm doing it using the Windows "start" command, and the spawned process is started and runs correctly. The spawning process receives control back and finishes (NAnt says "BUILD SUCCEEDED"), but doesn't actually exit to the command line. When the spawned process finally terminates (could be hours later), the command process returns and the command line prompt occurs. • How do I bypass GUI in MFC app if command line options exist?

  I've got an existing simple MFC app that the user specifies the input file, output file, and then a "Process" button. I'd like to just add the capability so that the input/output files are command line parameters. But, if they exist, I don't want the GUI to show up. I just want the "Process" to execute. I see where I can get the command line parameters (m_lpCmdLine) but how can I bypass the displaying of the GUI? If I step into the app, it goes directly to winmain.cpp and displays the GUI without stepping into any of my code.
