  • OpenGL and layouts

    I'm using OpenGL to render a game view in my android application. The game is turn based and I wish to add some buttons to the interface. I'd prefer to use standard Android widgets, structured in an XML-generated layout (or, if I have to, a hardcoded layout) and put the OpenGL view in its own window as part of that layout. So in regards to this, I have 3 questions: 1: Is such a thing possible? I've done a few half-hearted tries, but have had no luck so far. 2: Is such a thing advisable? Does it carry a significant performance penalty, for example, over using OpenGL-based homebrew widgetry? 3: Is it possible to pass particular arguments to instances created in XML layouts? For example, my current OpenGL view has three arguments in its constructor; is it somehow possible for me to invoke that particular constructor with particular parameters when it's part of a layout?

  • Twitter widget stops page from rendering in IE 8, anybody know why?

    The widget works fine in Firefox but it completely stops the page from being rendered in IE8.   • qapps runs well but breakpoint sometimes generates segmentation fault

    I have a qApp that generates a segmentation fault only when a breakpoint is inserted in the code (I can put it at different places) and only after 4-5 breakpoint stops. Do I have a problem with my code or is this a DBG bug. the method is part of a QThread Class. Basically what I did is i took the mandlebrot example, and have 3 instances of it in my program. So the program would look like a mainwindow that has 3 mandlebrot widgets in it, one besides the other. Is it possible that GDB doesnt support debugging qthread subclasses that are instantiated multiple times or is it thread-unsafe to do so. I dont have any problems at run-time.

  • [WordPress] Need help with remove_action()

    I'm trying to remove the unsightly embedded <STYLE> tag the built-in Recent Comments widget puts in my <HEAD>, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. It originally calls add_action( 'wp_head', array(&$this, 'recent_comments_style') ); to add it (in wp-includes/default-widgets.php, line 609), and I'm trying to undo it. I think it should be something like this: remove_action('wp_head', 'WP_Widget_Recent_Comments::recent_comments_style'); but with all the variations I've tried I still can't get it right.   • Django: How/Where to store a value for a session without unnecessary DB hits

    Hi all, I have an extended userprofile with AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE (ref: http://tinyurl.com/yhracqq) I would like to set a user.is_guru() method similar to user.is_active(). This would results for al views (or rather templates) to e.g. disable/enable certain user messages, displaying of widgets, etc. The boolean is stored in the extended user profile model, but I want to avoid hitting the DB for every view. So the questions is .. Do I use a context_processor, a template tag, session_dict or what have you to, possible cached, store this info for the duration of the users visit. Note: I dont have performance issues, so it's definitely filed under premature optimization. I just want to avoid generating extra work in the future :). Any pointers are very welcome.     Hello all, I'm looking to purchase a jquery book. I'm a strong C# developer whose had experience with dojo. Now, I'm building my own site and am looking to learn a new platform in the process. So, I've chosen jquery. With dojo, I know how to make my own widgets. I want to learn about ways to plug into jquery to make reusable controls. Also, I plan to make heavy use of json with ajax. Other things to consider: I would call my javascript expertise as intermediate. I'd like to find a book that is as up to date with the jquery platform as possible as I know that in a few months it will likely be out of date. What book or books would you reccomend?

    Let's assume I have Component (say Graph like Yahoo Finance) rendered on the page. Component view template contains bunch of a_hrefs which I wanto to switch period in graph. I created Event and Event handler in Component. I have two questions: How to raise event on Graph Component via those a_hrefs (should they be part of Graph?)? How to redraw Graph without loosing curent page context (section, filter - specified as $_GET values)?   • .Net Template Engine/Report Solution

    I am looking to add custom reports/forms to a web application. I want users to be able to upload a report definition/template file and then be able to print out a PDF or word document (one or the other it doesn't need to be both) for each of their widgets based off of the template they uploaded. I can't install anything on the server and am looking for an open source/free solution. Data Source- The data will be in the form of a datatable or dataset that the application fetches itself. The report tool does will not be able to connect to any database.

  • How do I style jQuery Combobox to look like a normal select dropdown

    Hi everyone. I am making use of jQuery 1.4.4 and jQuery UI 1.8.7 in a legacy code base. I have added a few combobox() ui-widgets, these comboboxes live along side normal <select> dropdowns. I am finding it difficult to get the two elements to look the same, i.e. the unstyled <select> with it's Internet Explorer / Windows based style and the most basic jQuery UI Themed ui-widget combobox. The screenshot shows an unstyled <select> on the left and a jQuery ui-widget combobox on the right: Is it possible to make the two look the same?

    I have a following Qt code: QVBoxLayout* box = new QVBoxLayout; label = new QLabel(); // will be set later dynamically box->addWidget (label); Text in label will be set later. The problem is that when label resizes, it resizes QVBoxLayout, and it resizes other neighboring widgets. I don't want to make a label or layout fixed width. Because I want them to resize with a whole window. Is it possible to tell a widget to take all the place that it has in a layout, but not more?

    I'm having some problems with Server.Execute that I can't seem to find any details on. Page page = new WidgetProcessor(Widget); Server.Execute(page, htmlTextWriter, true); The Widget in the above code is a simple object that knows how to instantiate a usercontrol. The WidgetProcessor takes a Widget and adds the widgets control to the page. This works fine on the initial load, it doesn't seem to handle postbacks however; it never actually fires the user controls events, it just consistently returns the original page as if you had never posted back. I've found this article from 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817036, though I would think they would have fixed this by now. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is it possible to cut down the size of Flex 4 deployments?

    My bin-release for a very simple Web project using Flex 4 is weighing in at 1.5MB. 40% of that is taken up by one single file which is over 600K all by itself. Here are the files that take up most of the volume: framework_4.0.0.14159.swz 608KB spark_4.0.0.14159.swz 311KB textLayout_1.0.0.595.swz 153KB There are others as well, but this is over a megabyte right there. All this was fine when I was writing components for a large Flex application, but now I need to do widgets on an HTML page using a CMS. Are all these files really necessary to deploy? Are there things I can do to cut down the weight?

  • wxPython formatting questions

    I have an app I was working on to learn more about wxPython( I have been primarily been a scripter ). I forgot about it now I am opening it back up. It's a screen scraper, and I have it working almost the way I want it, going to build a regex parser to strip out the links in every scrape that I don't need. The questions I have are this. In it current state, if I check more than one site, it goes out and scrapes, and returns it in separate windows, the for:each section in the Clicked function. I want to put them in a frame, in the window, altogether. I also want to know if I can take the list they are read into and send it to a checklist, so someone could check off separate items, I want to build a save function and keep certain ones. In regards to a save function, I want to keep saved checks, are there calls to the widgets to save their states? I know it's a lot, but thanks for the help.

  • How do I programmatically add a widget to a container created from GtkBuilder?

    I've created a window that has some containers and widgets in it, and I want to add a new widget dynamically at run-time to one of the Vboxes in this window. So I have this code, which brings up the window: gtk_builder_add_from_file( g_builder, "window.xml", NULL ); mainwindow = GTK_WIDGET( gtk_builder_get_object( g_builder, "window" )); gtk_widget_show( mainwindow ); Then I create a new label, for example, and add it to one of the existing Vboxes, called "vbox_mid", like this: label = gtk_label_new( "Test label" ); vbox = GTK_WIDGET( gtk_builder_get_object( g_builder, "vbox_mid" )); gtk_box_pack_end( GTK_BOX( vbox ), label, TRUE, TRUE, 0 ); But this doesn't seem to work. I don't see a new label in the vbox. I have a feeling I'm missing something here, but I can't see what it is. I thought perhaps there was a special GtkBuilder call to add a widget dynamically, but I don't see anything that looks like that. I would really appreciate any help on this.

  • jQuery infinite loop w/ tablesorter

    Got myself in a funny situation: page has three tables. Using sortEnd, any time you sort one table, it sorts the other three. However, since I bound sortEnd to the function that does the sorting, you get a infinite loop of sorting/resorting.   • Can I have multiple instance of the mandlebrot example in one program?

    Basically what I did is I took the Mandlebrot example and have 3 instances of it in my program. So the program would look like a mainwindow that has 3 mandlebrot widgets in it, one besides the other. Is it possible that GDB doesnt support debugging multiple intances of a classe that derives from qthread or is it thread-unsafe to do so? I don't have any problems at run-time but when I put breakpoints in a function called by the QThread run() function I get a segmentation fault. I can clearly see that the function doesn't complete before returning to the breakpoint ie I the program stops at the breakpoint, I step into the lines of codes one by one but after a couple of instructions another thread startS using the function(even though they are different instances).

  • Tkinter mouse event initially triggered

    I'm currently learning Tkinter and I cannot find a solution for my problem here nor outside Stackoverflow. In a nutshell, all events that I bind to my widgets are triggered initialy and don't respond to my actions. In this example, the red rectangle appears on the canvas when I run the code, and color=random.choice(['red', 'blue']) revealed that the event binding doesn't work after that: import Tkinter as tk class application(tk.Frame): def __init__(self, master=None): tk.Frame.__init__(self, master) self.can = tk.Canvas(master, width=200, height=200) self.can.bind('<Button-2>', self.draw()) self.can.grid() def draw(self): self.can.create_rectangle(50, 50, 100, 100, fill='red') app = application() app.mainloop() I use a Mac platform, but I haven't got a clue about its role in the problem.   • Why exactly is server side HTML rendering faster than client side?

    I am working on a large web site, and we're moving a lot of functionality to the client side (Require.js, Backbone and Handlebars stack). There are even discussions about possibly moving all rendering to the client side. But reading some articles, especially ones about Twitter moving away from client side rendering, which mention that server side is faster / more reliable, I begin to have questions. I don't understand how rendering fairly simple HTML widgets in JS from JSON and templates is a contemporary browser on a dual core CPU with 4-8 GB RAM is any slower than making dozens of includes in your server side app. Are there any actual real life benchmarking figures regarding this? Also, it seems like parsing HTML templates by server side templating engines can't be any faster than rendering same HTML code from a Handlebars template, especially if this is a precomp JS function?

  • Printing python tkinter output

    I am trying to print the contents of a python tkinter canvas. I have tried using the postscript method of canvas to create a postscript file, but I get a blank page. I know this is because I have embedded widgets, and these do not get rendered by the postscript method. Before I rewrite my program to create a more printer-friendly layout, can someone suggest a way to approach this problem? All of the programming books I have ever read approach the problem of sending output to a printer with a bit of hand-waving, something along the lines of: "It's a difficult problem that depends on interacting with the operating system." I also have a hard time finding resources about this because of all the pages related to printing to the screen. I am using Python 2.6, on Ubuntu 9.04.

  • How to implement the "Edit" menu with "Undo", "Cut", "Paste" and "Copy"?

    Greetings, for one of my applications I'm trying to implement an "Edit" menu. This menu usually has the standard-entries Undo, Cut, Copy and Paste. This menu is not there by default, and users seem to expect it especially on Mac OS X. Is there a an easier way of implementing this, without doing so in every widget manually? Since most widgets have the copy/paste/undo mechanism already implemented via shortcuts, I'd like to provide a few simple menu actions that call them as well. The actions should call whatever widget has the focus first, then they should pass the events upwards the object chain, I guess. I'm using Qt 4.6 on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Thanks!

  • How can I display more info in an error message when using NUnit Assert in a loop?

    Consider the following code: [Test] public void WidgetTest() { foreach (Widget widget in widgets) { Assert.AreEqual(0, widget.SomeValue); } } If one of the asserts fails, I will get a very unhelpful error message like the one below: 1) Test Failure : WidgetTest.TestSomeValue Expected: 0 But was: 1 at WidgetTest.TestSomeValue() So, the question is, how can I get NUnit to display more useful info, such as the name of the widget, or the iteration of the loop, etc? Even a line number would be more helpful, since this is run in automated manner and I'd like to be able to spot the failing assert without debugging into the code.
