  • [.NET] What's the point of MarshalByValue Object?

    - by smwikipedia
Hi awesome! We know that MarshalByRef allow us to create an object in a different AppDomain and use a Proxy object to access it. And the behavior of that object is in a different context of the AppDomain where it actually lives in. Well this sounds faily reseaonable in the regard of isolation and safety. But why is there still MarshalByValue? MarshalByValue just leads to an newly deserialized object which is an exact copy of the object in a different AppDomain. If we need that object, why not just create it in the current AppDomain? Why bother to first create it in a different AppDomain and then get it back by MarshaoByValue? Many thanks.

  • How can I make external script output link to code in Visual Studio?

    - by JoelFan
I sometimes need to search code for patterns in a way that goes beyond the regex capabilities of Visual Studio (e.g. patterns that depend on what was seen previously in the file or on the contents of other files). So I use Perl to analyze the source and output matching lines, along with the file name and line number. Since this is the exact same format as is produced by the search feature of Visual Studio, I wonder if there is a way to duplicate the functionality where I can double-click on a line and it will display that line in context in Visual Studio. Any ideas?

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 Model object validation

    - by Jimmy
Hey guys, I'm trying to validate a model object outside of the context of ModelState within a controller, I currently have a parser that creates model objects from an excel file and I want to be able to report how many entries were added to the database and how many failed, is there a way to validate a model object on its data annotations outside of model binding? I'm looking for something similar to the rails model method of model.valid? or a way for me to implement that myself. My current solution is just manually checking if a few key fields are present but this duplicates requirements between my model class and its metadata, there has to be a better way to hook into the model validation checking that is done by mvc 2. Thanks

  • Can I use MFC objects in STL containers?

    - by Jesse Stimpson
The following code doesn't compile for me in MSVC2005: std::vector<CMenu> vec(10); CMenu is an MFC menu object (such as a context menu). Through some testing I learned that CMenu does not have a public copy constructor. To do what I wanted to do, I needed to use a dynamic array. CMenu* menus = new CMenu[10]; // ... delete [] menus; Of course, now I've lost all the benefits of using an STL container. Do I have any other options?

  • Simulating python's With statement in java

    - by drozzy
    Is there something like Python with context manager in Java? For example say I want to do something like the following: getItem(itemID){ Connection c = C.getConnection(); c.open(); try{ Item i = c.query(itemID); }catch(ALLBunchOfErrors){ c.close(); } c.close(); return c; } where in python I just have: with( C.getConnection().open() as c): Item i = c.query(itemID); return i;

  • The meaning of tracking in git

    - by user273158
In an article that has been cited in StackOverflow a few times (e.g. 1) , the author discusses the asymmetry between git push and git pull, and mentions the following: Update: Thanks to David Ongaro, who points out below that since git 1.7.4.2, the recommended value for the push.default option is upstream rather than tracking, although tracking can still be used as a deprecated synonym. The commit message that describes that change is nice, since it suggests that there is an effort underway to deprecate the term “track” in the context of setting this association with the upstream branch in a remote repository. (The totally different meanings of “track” in git branch --track and “remote-tracking branches” has long irritated me when trying to introduce git to people.) What is exactly the difference that he is referring to with: The notion of "tracking" in git branch --track The notion of "tracking" in remote-tracking branches in the last sentence?

  • Django: Why Doesn't the Current URL Match any Patterns in urls.py

    - by austin_sherron
I've found a few questions here related to my issue, but I haven't found anything that has helped me resolve my issue. I'm using Python 2.7.5 and Django 1.8.dev20140627143448. I have a view that's interacting with my database to delete objects, and it takes two arguments in addition to a request: def delete_data_item(request, dataclass_id, dataitem_id): form = AddDataItemForm(request.POST) data_set = get_object_or_404(DataClass, pk=dataclass_id) context = {'data_set': data_set, 'form': form} data_item = get_object_or_404(DataItem, pk=dataitem_id) data_item.delete() data_set.save() return HttpResponseRedirect(reverse('detail', args=(dataclass_id,))) The URL in myapp.urls.py looks something like this: url(r'^(?P<dataclass_id>[0-9]+)/(?P<dataitem_id>[0-9]+)/delete_data_item/$', views.delete_data_item, name='delete_data_item') and the portion of my template relevant to the view is: <a href="{% url 'delete_data_item' data_set.id data_item.id %}">DELETE</a> Whenever I click on the DELETE link, django tells me that the request URL: http://127.0.0.1:8000/myapp/5/%7B%%20url%20'delete_data_item'%20data_set.id%20data_item.id%20%%7D doesn't match any of my URL patterns. What am I missing? The URL on which the DELETE links exist is myapp/(<dataclass_id>[0-9]+)/

  • OpenGL game written in C with a Cocoa front-end I want to port to Windows

    - by Philip
Hello, I'm wondering if someone could offer me some tips on how to go about this. I have a MacOS X OpenGL game that is written in very portable C with the exception of the non-game-play GUI. So in Cocoa I set up the window and OpenGL context, manage preferences, registration, listen for keystrokes etc. But all of the drawing and processing of input is handled in nice portable C. So I want to port to Windows. I figured the obvious way to go about was to use the Win32 api. Then I started to read a primer on Win32 and began to wonder if maybe life isn't too short. Can I do this in C# (without converting the backend to C#)? I'd rather devote the time to learning C# than Win32. Any suggestions would be most welcome. I really don't know a lick about Windows. The last version I regularly used was 3.1...

  • Maven + Tomcat acceleration

    - by Bar
I am writing a web application with Maven in the Eclipse IDE, and use Tomcat servlet container. So, I run Maven like this: mvn clean compile. It is reasonable that after this oepration I must re-run Tomcat so it can reinitialize the context (Sysdeo Tomcat launcher helps a lot). The problem is Maven execution and subsequebt Tomcat re-running takes noticable amount of time (like 10+ seconds for Maven and 20+ sec. for Tomcat, because of logging, Hibernate mappings, etc.) every time I do it. Is there any automated and more faster solution for these two operatioins? As I see it, a way better solution can be moving re-compiled classes only to the target dir.

  • How to know if your Unit Test Fixture is “right-sized”?

    - by leeand00
How do you know if you "Test Fixture" is right-sized. And by "Test Fixture" I mean a class with a bunch of tests in it. One thing that I've always noticed with my test fixtures is that they get to be kind of verbose; seeing as they could also be not verbose enough, how do you get a sense of when your unit tests are the right size? My assumption is that (at least in the context of web development) you should have one test fixture class per page. I know of a good quote for this and it's: "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

  • Camel | Need for Scheduling console

    - by user1692063
I am using camel 2.9.0 in my project. We have a number of routes divided into different camel contexts. Each camel context is bundled separately and deployed in Apache Karaf. Now the problem is divied into 2 parts: 1.) Each route is a scheduled route. Although using Quartz component, we are able to define a cron expressio in each route, we want a console where in we can trigger, stop any route and also put a cron expression to any route.(Scheduling a route through a web console is our main objective). 2.) Also we tried to configure the cron expression for each route through quartz.property. But if someone wants to change the cron expression at runtime in Apache Karaf, then we have to stop the bundle deployed and start in again. What can be done to change the value of cron expression at runtime. Any replies and help would be appreciable. Piyush

  • Referenced assembly won't load in new thread on IIS 7

    - by DanielC
I have a process in which a user uploads a file to a web site where the file is then processed and uploaded into the database. The process of validating the file could take several minutes so as soon as the file is uploaded I create a new thread and I do my processing on this second thread. This works great on my local machine but doesn't work at all on my IIS 7 test server. After some investigating I found the problem is that the process is trying to load a reference to Castle and it can't find the DLL. I have a copy of Castle DLLs in my bin and it works elsewhere in my app. I ran Fuslog and discovered that it is trying to load castle from the wrong location. It is trying to load from c:/windows/system32/inetsrv/. It appears that under IIS 7 the second thread is executing in a different context or something. So the question is what can I do to get it to find Castle in the application BIN folder?

  • Static dictionary in .Net Thread safety

    - by Emmanuel
    Reading msdn documentation for dictionaries it says : "Public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." Those this mean that with a dictionary such as this : static object syncObject = new object(); static Dictionary<string,MyObject> mydictionary= new Dictionary<string, MyObject>(); Is doing something like the code below unnecessary? lock (syncObject) { context = new TDataContext(); mydictionary.Add("key", myObject); }

  • Sequencing ajax requests

    - by Scott Evernden
I find I sometimes need to iterate some collection and make an ajax call for each element. I want each call to return before moving to the next element so that I don't blast the server with requests - which often leads to other issues. And I don't want to set async to false and freeze the browser. Usually this involves setting up some kind of iterator context that i step thru upon each success callback. I think there must be a cleaner simpler way? Does anyone have a clever design pattern for how to neatly work thru a collection making ajax calls for each item?

  • Should I 'delete' this CDC?

    - by Binary Worrier
Folks, I'm trying to track down an intermittant bug that's showing up on site. I've a feeling it's in some GDI code I'd to cobble together to get a tally printer working. I'm connfused over how to delete this CDC, my code looks OK to me, but is this correct. // Create a device context for printing CDC* dc = new CDC(); if(! dc->CreateDC(safeDriverName.AsBSTR(), safePrinterName.AsBSTR(), NULL, NULL)) { throw . . . } // as I finish with the CDC dc->DeleteDC(); delete dc; Do I need delete dc after dc->DeleteDC();? • Create link to Sitecore Item

    - by Zooking
I know I have done this before but I can't seem to remember where or how. I want to create a link to an Item in Sitecore. This code: Sitecore.Data.Items.Item itm = Sitecore.Context.Database.GetItem(someID); return itm.Paths.Path.ToString(); Produces the following string: http://localhost/sitecore/content/Home/Item1/Item11/thisItem I would like to have this string instead: http://localhost/Item1/Item11/thisItem.aspx What is the correct way to get the path to the item? In this case I can't use a normal Sitecore link: Sitecore.Web.UI.WebControls.Link

  • PHP include(): File size & performance

    - by Tom
An inexperienced PHP question: I've got a PHP script file that I need to include on different pages lots of times in lots of places. I have the option of either breaking the included file down into several smaller files and include these on a as-needed basis... OR ... I could just keep it all together in a single PHP file. I'm wondering if there's any performance impact of using a larger vs. smaller file for include() in this context? For example, is there any performance difference between a 200KB file and a 20KB file? Thank you.

  • How do I cancel a text selection after the initial mousedown event?

    - by cwillu-gmail
I'm trying to implement a pop-up menu based on a click-and-hold, positioned so that a (really) slow click will still trigger the default action, and with the delay set so that a text-selection gesture won't usually trigger the menu. What I can't seem to do is cancel the text-selection in a way that doesn't prevent text-selection in the first place: returning false from the event handler (or calling $(this).preventDefault()) prevents the user from selecting at all, and the obvious $().trigger('mouseup') doesn't doesn't do anything with the selection at all. This is in the general context of a page, not particular to a textarea or other text field. e.stopPropogation() doesn't cancel text-selection. I'm not looking to prevent text selections, but rather to veto them after some short period of time, if certain conditions are met.

  • Apache file caching

    - by danp
How does apache handle caching of certain files, and is it possible to explicitly say that certain files should be aggressively cached more than others, through the standard config files for a given host or virtualhost? To put it in context, I keep a lot of site content in various XML files, and I'd like to be able to say that this file will be used a lot, and therefore cache it as much as possible..? Does apache do this kind of thing intelligently and on the fly..? Will it observe which files are more popular than others and try to match cache hits appropriately..? Lots of questions in one, but the basic idea should be clear enough. edit: to be clear, these are resource files which are loaded and interpreted by PHP - but php as a process is spawned inside apache.. right? Please help!

  • Eclipse: The icons in "Display View" are all greyed out

    - by Mark Silberbauer
The discussion here describes the "display view" in eclipse which allows one to to quickly evaluate java expressions. The thing is, when I open the display view the icons remain greyed out and I can't execute anything. The only icon that isn't is "clear console". The odd thing is, alot of the screenshots on the web show the same behaviour but the people posting about the feature don't mentioned it. There aren't any options in the context sensitive menu either. I'm trying it on a java project. I've tried it in the debug view and I get the same issue. I'll provide a screenshot once my hosting is sorted. I'm using eclipse 3.4.

  • What are the differences between struct and class in C++

    - by palm3D
This question was already asked in the context of C#/.Net. Now I'd like to learn the differences between a struct and a class in (unmanaged) C++. Please discuss the technical differences as well as reasons for choosing one or the other in OO design. I'll start with an obvious difference: If you don't specify public: or private:, members of a struct are public by default; members of a class are private by default. I'm sure there are other differences to be found in the obscure corners of the C++ specification.
