• PyQt4 Need to move DLLs to package root

  Hi Guys, I've used the new installers from http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/software/pyqt/download for Python 2.6 x86_64 and I've a small problem importing PyQt4 in one particular application. Here's the traceback: # ERROR : Traceback (most recent call last): # File "<Script Block >", line 2, in <module> # from PyQt4 import QtCore # ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified procedure could not be found. # - [line 2] This might look familiar. Fun thing is that in a previous version of the 3d software it does work (and from a standard command line), but not in the new software version. I inspected the sys.path (within the app) in order to see if this path was there: C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\bin In both application this path is present. Finally managed to make it works by copying the DLLs from C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\bin to C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4 Is there any known reason for this? I've a hard time debugging this thing further (making sure everything is 64 bit, path are correct, etc) Thanks for your help

• How can I have a smooth animated move between 2 Google Maps locations?

  When clicking from one marker to another in Google Maps, the map screen animates the move smoothly if both markers are within them initial map view but jumps if one of the markers is off screen. I'm trying to set up a map which has several locations within the main map area but has one which is 'off screen'. I have a signpost icon to the more distant location within the initial map area which I want to smoothly scroll to the off screen location when clicked (so as to give a better sense of it's relative location). I can't find anything in the Maps API which would let me do this however. I could zoom out, move and then zoom in again but this looks a bit jarring. Am I missing something in the API, or does anyone have any suggestions?

  Dear Network Gurus Before saying anything let me tell you that i am not well educated int networks related subjects. I am a software developer and I have written and exposed a Service on HTTPS at port 8000. Now i want to know that if there is any kind of software that can help me to trace if there is any kind of port blocking from one site to my service location with information of blocker host. I have tried couple of Tracerout software like wintrace but all these uses ICMP protocols and there is no option to provide port number in them. And moreover i like to ad an exception in Firewall for incoming ICMP protocal in windows server 2003 windows firewall but i can't see anyoption to ad protocol in exception instead there are only options to ad a program or ad a port of udp or tcp. Please help Regards

  From the Wowhead Terms of Service: "Intellectual Property Rights The Service and any necessary software used in connection with the Service ("Software") contain proprietary and confidential information that is protected by applicable intellectual property and other laws. You agree not to modify, rent, lease, loan, sell, distribute or create derivative works based on the Service or the Software, in whole or in part." Does this mean that I can't write a program to consume a web service being published by the writers of this TOS? I find it kind of scary that I even have to ask this question. The wikipedia article on "derivative works" isn't very conclusive.

• Silverlight 4 application on localhost runs extremely slow

  Silverlight 4 app running in IE8 and hosted on VS2010 internal webserver. The website takes atleast a minute to download the xap and code runs slow on client (IE8). I am running the app in debug mode and have turned intellitrace off. Symbol loading is also turned off. However if I kill the VS webserver, clean the solution, the app runs fast. 3 debugging sessions later, the app slows to a crawl. Have also tried turning off McAfee live scanning but no use. Looked in event log for any clue but found none. What could be the cause of the slowness? TIA rams

• How to test a .net application against a proxy?

  I need to support the use of proxy on our application that is using WCF connections. We do not have any proxy server on our network and I don't want to disrupt our corporate network by requesting a proxy installation. I was thinking of installing a proxy server on a local virtual machine and configurating Internet Explorer so that it will challenge that proxy. I don't know what proxy software to use (I don't want to install ISA server) and I don't know how to configure one. Does someone have any suggestion for a easy to use software that will require an authentication for any WCF services and do you have any guideline that would be helpful to know when testing a software against a proxy?

• Cron expressions: leading zeros ok?

  A quartz-scheduled process did not kick off last evening. The only thing that looks like it MIGHT be off is that, in one entry: 0 00 23 13,15 APR ? The "minutes" field is specified as a 2-digit 00 rather than a single-digit 0. I can't find any definitive cron documentation saying whether or not this would cause a problem. I can't test it again until the off-hours. Anyone know for sure if this could be a problem? if so, it's rather a silly one.

I have a Listener in my system, which suppose to get a UDP trigger times to times from an outside server, ive done this listener as a service. how could i prevent it being shut off by the user? (SDK 1.5), i`am working for a company which create cell phones, and we spread the device with this Listener. as soon as the listener goes off our systems will be terminated any idea for this scenario? *i`am already aware to the face, that the system could also take it off, but this case will be easier to handle and avoid. thanks, ray.

• Printer Communication Capture

  If I need to post this elsewhere let me know. We have some old software thats being re-written, that uses a printerdriver to a propriatery printer. I need to rewrite the software bypassing the print driver and go directly to the printer. I do have the specs for the printer communication, thats fine, but what Id like to do is monitor the communications to the printer to view its contents (from the existing software that Im re-writing) and compare it to the specs, and what I will be sending it for validation. I have to make sure Im not missing anything. Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this? Thanks

• Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

  I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with. I have a table and one of its column is referring to another column in another table (in the same database) as foreign key, here is the related SQL statement, in more details, column [AnotherID] in table [Foo] refers to another table [Goo]'s column [GID] as foreign key. [GID] is primary key and clustered index on table [Goo]. My question is, in this way, if I do not create index on [AnotherID] column on [Foo] explicitly, will there be an index created automatically for [AnotherID] column on [Foo] -- because its foreign key reference column [GID] on table [Goo] already has primary clustered key index?   I scripted the tables in my dev database using SQL 2008 - generate scripts option (Datbase-right click-Tasks-Generate Scripts) and ran it on the staging database, but the script throws the below error for each table Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near '('. Msg 319, Level 15, State 1, Line 15 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'with'. If this statement is a common table expression, an xmlnamespaces clause or a change tracking context clause, the previous statement must be terminated with a semicolon.   Having worked in software development for 12 years, I've recently started to worry about ageism in the industry. Seeing I'm not too bad at what I do I've never really worried about where my next job's going to come from, but the more I look around me the younger software developers seem to get. Although I feel I'm now at the top of my programming game, I have some management experience and I'm now wondering if I should make a fully-fledged leap from development to ensure future career security. I know ageism has traditionally be linked with the IT industry, but given modern employment law makes discrimination illegal, is ageism still a real problem for software developers? Or are my aging neurons deluding me?

• jquery: Toggle elements based on result from a function

  I have a number of table rows that I would like to toggle the visibility of. They should be visible if a data item I have set on them earlier equals a selected value in a form. Thing is that I thought I was able to give toggle a function that would decide if each row should be on or off, but it turns out I can only give it a boolean condition which would be an all or nothing deal kind of... So, I have this function: function() { return $(this).data('category_id') == category_id; } How can I use that to go through all the rows and toggle them on or off? Or is there a better approach to this? What should I do?

  I'm trying to automate the build process for engineering group. As part of that automation, I'm trying to get to a point where the act of applying a specific tag that adheres to a pattern will kick off an automated process that will do the following: Check out source code Create a build script from a template Build the project I'm pretty certain I could do this with a post-hook in subversion, but I'm trying to figure out a way to do this with something other than a subversion hook. Would it make sense to monitor the tags directory in the subversion repository to kick off my workflow? Are there any decent tools that help with this (.NET would be great if possible). Am I better off just writing an engine to do this? My preferences: Existing product that does all or part of this If development work needs to occur, .NET is preferable Works with Windows (we've got a Linux based repo, but builds all occur on windows)

Also it should support easy extension and customization of the features. I read that plug-in based architecture supports both. What are the advantages and disadvantages of plug-in based architecture? I am working on windows 7 and can use preferably C++ Builder 2010 Embarcadero, or java or Qt. The library have to be under a public domain or equivalent, as my software is a proprietary software.
