• Ant trouble with environment variables on Ubuntu

  Having some trouble with with ant reading environment variables in Ubuntu 9.10. Specifically, the build tasks my company uses has a token like ${env.CATALINA_HOME] in the main build.xml. I set CATALINA_HOME to the correct value in /etc/environment, ~/.pam_environment and (just to be safe) my .bashrc. I can see the correct value when I run printenv from bash, or when I eval (getenv "CATALINA_HOME") in emacs. Ant refuses to build to the correct directory though; instead I get a folder named ${env.CATALINA_HOME} in the same directory as my build.xml. Any idea what's happening there, and/or how to fix it?

  I have classes DirReader and Search. The search uses DirReader. I want the search to know when DirReader throws exception. So how can I have class throwing exception? Currently, I use initCorrect -dummy var. Exception-style method may be more appropriate. • What documentation is helpful when supporting an application?

  I am going to be taking over from a developer here at work soon. Hence, I'll be supporting all the applications that he has written over the last few years. My question is, when supporting an application that you probably don't know much about, what kind of documentation is most helpful to get a handle on how to fix problems, extend functionality, modify functionality, etc? I'm thinking it would need to give you an overview of what the software does, what interfaces it has to other software, what databases it uses, usernames, passwords, and so on. Is there such a thing as a software support document? Referrals to any templates would be most helpful. BTW, unfortunately, there are no requirements documents, specs, etc! So, really my question is, if my colleague had a day to write a single document for each application so that I could (more easily) support it, what would that document be and/or what would it look like?

• Using URL Routing for Web Forms with .ashx files

  I am developing a .NET 3.5 Web Forms based website that uses URL Routing. So far I have created a few routes and I have had no issue. I now have a .ashx file that is going to handle sending .pdf files from a table in SQL Server to the website when someone clicks on a link. Normally when I create a Handler it would look like this: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/ViewItem.aspx", typeof(Page)) as Page; For my .ashx file I tried: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/FileServer.ashx", typeof(Page)) as Page; This doesn't work though because fileserver.ashx is not a page so casting it as typeof(Page)) as Page is going to fail. What do I cast the VirtualPath as instead of Page or is there some other way I should be doing this.

  Hi All, All the time we are hearing that java is enterprise. We have read many books about jpa, entity beans and other stuff. All this books explain this technology with some dummy examples. I have not seen a book that explains real problems with enterprise beans, java clients and security! I mean real book not some imaginated stupid examples . Is there any book that describes completely some enterprise system, Its architecture, communication, security, of course the client that uses the distributed components ? I need a book that will cover the flowing: server side components (ejb, jpa) client side java desktop application security (authentication and authorization) web services with complete authentication clustering (we can find for all of this a book, but there is no book that covers all this things in one piece.   I am looking for some kind of analyzer tool for log files generated by log4j files. I am looking something more advanced than grep? What are you using for log file analysis? I am looking for following kinds of features: The tool should tell me how many time a given log statement or a stack trace has occurred, preferably with support for some kinds of patterns (eg. number of log statements matching 'User [a-z]* logged in'). Breakdowns by log level (how many INFO, DEBUG lines) and by class that initiated the log message would be nice. Breakdown by date (how many log statements in given time period) What log lines occur commonly together? Support for several files since I am using log rolling Hot spot analysis: find if there is a some time period when there is unusually high number of log statements Either command-line or GUI are fine Open Source is preferred but I am also interested in commercial offerings My log4j configuration uses org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout with pattern %d %p %c - %m%n but that could be adapted for analyzer tool.

• Close PrintPreviewDialog when ESC is pressed

  I'm working on a WinForms application that uses System.Windows.Forms.PrintPreviewDialog to display a Print Preview dialog. When the user presses ESC in that dialog, I'd like to close the dialog. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried to install a KeyDown/PreviewKeyDown event handler, but it never gets called. I also tried setting focus to the dialog (and to its PrintPreviewControl), thinking that was the issue, but that didn't help either. Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?

• MSSQL2008: DTC Transaction - Internal abort

  Hi all, I write a small own replication - a trigger which fires an DTC INSERT to another server (one reason for my own "replication": while trigger is running it calculates some data, another: it works from an express version to an express version). When I do the initial insert from the same Host with the windows authentification it works fine. But there is a webserver on another host, which uses the sqlserver login (for testing sa). When this Host do the initial insert I get a Internal abort after the entlisting and creating phase in the DTCTransaction EventClass (Profiler). The magic is: When I first fire it from the same Host with the windows authentification, I can fire it from the webserver and it works fine. But I just have to wait some minutes and it won't work. Where is my error in reasoning... Thanks! • Posting a form and redirecting to action ASP.NET MVC

  I have a navigation bar that uses JQuery to move between 4 stages of signup process. However I need to make sure everything is working with JS disabled. So I have these 4 link images at the bottom of the page and I need so that if one is clicked it posts to the current action so I can save all the form data and then redirect to the next stage. The redirect is easy enough as I will just pass a parameter in the route or form but I don't know how to post the method using just action links. I could put 4 different submit buttons with different classes for the image backgrounds etc but this feels wrong. Any ideas?

  I have created a non-form c# program that uses the NotifyIcon class. The text "(Click to Activate)" shows up when I hover the mouse. So I am getting some events handled. • C++ STL library in XCode - memset not defined in this scope

  I am trying to create a STL based C++ library in XCode with a bunch of C++ files that I have. Basically my end output should be a shared library (dylib) that can be consumed by a Objective-C application. When trying to compile, I get the following error.. 'memset' was not declared in scope. Since my codebase uses a lot of external 3rd party codebases, I thought i'll include or to resolve this, but I tried both and even that didn't work. Does it have something to do with the SDK? Am currently running 10.5 with GCC 4.2 Need help with setting up the Target properly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Regex, encoding, and characters that look a like

  First, a brief example, let's say I have this "/[0-9]{2}°/" regex and this text "24º". The text won't match, obviusly ... (?) really, it depends on the character encoding. Here is my problem, I do not have control on which chars the user uses, so, I need to cover all possibilities in the regex /[0-9]{2}[°º]/, or even better, assure that the text has only the chars I'm expecting °. But I can't just remove the unknow chars otherwise the regex won't work, I need to change it to the chars that looks like it and I'm expecting. I have done this through a little function that maps the "look like" to "what I expect" and change it, the problem is, I have not covered all possibilities, for example, today I found a new "-", now we got three of them, just like latex =D - -- --- ,cool , but the regex didn't work. Does anyone knows how I might solve this?

• CUDA: How to reuse kernels in multiple files (for unit testing)

  How can I go about reusing the same kernel without getting fatal linking errors due to defining the symbol multiple times In Visual Studio I get "fatal error LNK1169: one or more multiply defined symbols found" My current structure is as follows: Interface.h has an extern interface to a C function: myCfunction() (ala the C++ integration SDK example) Kernel.cu contains the actual __global__ kernels and is NOT included in the build: __global__ my_kernel() Wrapper.cu inlcudes Kernel.cu and Interface.h and calls my_kernel<<<...>>> This all works fine. But if I add another C function in another file which also includes Kernel.cu and uses those kernels, I get the errors. So how can I reuse the kernels in Kernel.cu among many C functions in different files. The purpose of this by the way is unit testing, and integrating my kernels with CPP unit, if there is no way to reuse kernels (there must be!) then other suggestions for unit testing kernels within my existing CPP unit framework would be appreciate. • Incompatibilities between Indy 9 and Windows Server 2003?

  I'm having a problem with a Delphi application on some Windows 2003 servers. It uses a webservice call to connect with another server and transmit data back and forth. As soon as the app gets to the Authenticate method, the app dies. The app has worked for years on previous boxes with Win Server 2003, but it doesn't on freshly built machines. The machines are set up the same way for the most part, but there is clearly some config setting that differs that I'm not able to track down. Also, while the error becomes apparent in the call to Authenticate, packet sniffing proves that nothing ever happens between the app and the server it's trying to contact, which strengthens my thoughts that something is dieing early on in setting up the connection. I can't duplicate the error locally, so I can't step through the app in a debugger either. Any thoughts on why an Indy 9 Delphi web connection might silently fail?

• Include OpenX ad in a jquery-ui dialog?

  I'm loading some content into a jquery-ui dialog via .ajax. That's all working fine but now I've been given an OpenX ad to embed into the dialog & can't figure out how to do it. I know all the script is stripped when coming in via ajax, & I know how to use $.getScript to load .js files for use in the dialog, but the OpenX ad script I've got uses document.write so I think it's expecting to be embedded inline into the desired position on the page. I've tried appending the escaped script string into the div on ajax success of the main content as below, but this results in the page being redirected to a page with just the ad on it. Attempt shown below: $("#" + idHelpPage).find(".adScript").append("<script type='text/javascript'>var m3_u = (location.protocol=='https:'?'https://d1.openx.org/ajs.php':'http://d1.openx.org/ajs.php');var m3_r = ... etc etc I'm ok with jquery but not great with javascript, would really appreciate any help!   I am writing an application which uses the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel assembly to export/import data from Excel spreadsheets. Everything was going fine (except for 1 based indexing and all those optional parameters!), until I tried to use conditional formatting. When I call Range.FormatConditions.Add I get a MissingMethodException telling me that no such method exists. This happens in both Vista and XP.   How can I make my client treat 404 Error correctly? Right now it catches a general exception... My WCF Server uses WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.SetStatusAsNotFound(); To return a 404 Error code however my WCF client interperts it as an EndPointNotFoundException There was no endpoint listening at http://myUrl that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. The inner exception is WebException "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

• MySQL Query performance - huge difference in time

  I have a query that is returning in vastly different amounts of time between 2 datasets. For one set (database A) it returns in a few seconds, for the other (database B)....well I haven't waited long enough yet, but over 10 minutes. I have dumped both of these databases to my local machine where I can reproduce the issue running MySQL 5.1.37. Curiously, database B is smaller than database A. Database A also has this state but for only a second or so. There are no differences in the table structure, indexes, keys etc between these databases (I have done show create tables and diff'd them). The sizes of the tables are: database A: po_shipment 1776 po_shipment_item 1945 po_alloc 36298 po_header 71642 EVENT_TABLE 1608 database B: po_shipment 463 po_shipment_item 470 po_alloc 3291 po_header 56149 EVENT_TABLE 1089 Some points to note: Removing the WHERE clause makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing the GROUP BY makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing ev5, ev4, ev3 etc makes the query get faster for each one removed. Can anyone suggest how to resolve this issue? What have I missed?   I am new to spring-security in general and am a bit confused. The project I am trying to integrate this with uses X509 certificates to identify users for signing in to the application. There are no usernames or passwords. We validate the certificates are good, and that they have been given access to our app. The question is how do I integrate spring in to this to get their roles using the X509 certificates? I have seen this: <http> ... <x509 subject-principal-regex="CN=(.*?)," user-service-ref="userService"/> ... </http> But I don't understand how this works. Will it still require something for a password? Or is the subject all it needs?
