• Team Build MSBuild Task Does Not Update Main Build Log File

  I have an after build event in my main TFSBuild.proj file that uses the MSBuild task to call a deployment task after a successful build. It looks like this: <ItemGroup> <DeploymentTargets Include="..\Sources\Build\SkunkWorks.Build.Deployment.targets"> <Properties></Properties> </DeploymentTargets> </ItemGroup> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> <Message Text="Executing Deployment"/> <MSBuild Projects="@(DeploymentTargets)" Properties="PickUpLocation='@(DropLocation)'" ContinueOnError="false"/> </Target> This works fine and the deployment script is called as you would expect. The problem is that any errors or messages produced by executing the MSBuild are not written to the BuildLog.txt or ErrorsAndWarnings.txt files that are placed in the drop location after a successful build. Is there an easy way to capture this information?

  I am trying to learn how to make a simple app in android. As background information I have only programmed in C language, no OOP. Currently I am trying turn on the camera using the indications from Android Developer site but some minor changes: - no button for capturing image. - no new activity. • Is there a log file analyzer for log4j files?

  I am looking for some kind of analyzer tool for log files generated by log4j files. I am looking something more advanced than grep? What are you using for log file analysis? I am looking for following kinds of features: The tool should tell me how many time a given log statement or a stack trace has occurred, preferably with support for some kinds of patterns (eg. number of log statements matching 'User [a-z]* logged in'). Breakdowns by log level (how many INFO, DEBUG lines) and by class that initiated the log message would be nice. Breakdown by date (how many log statements in given time period) What log lines occur commonly together? Support for several files since I am using log rolling Hot spot analysis: find if there is a some time period when there is unusually high number of log statements Either command-line or GUI are fine Open Source is preferred but I am also interested in commercial offerings My log4j configuration uses org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout with pattern %d %p %c - %m%n but that could be adapted for analyzer tool.

• Email sent by ActionMailer is taking six hours to deliver mail.

  So I have been asked to help maintain a website that uses Ruby on Rails. Now, let me just say I've been programming Ruby for awhile but I am still new to Rails. The first problem brought to my attention is how the activation email takes about six hours to arrive. It would be one thing if the email was not being sent due to errors but it is being send correctly, just slow. Also the server this is running on is also its own SMTP. I checked how the email was being formatted before calling the setup_email method and everything looks okay. I even dug into the ActionMailer lib and read through the files there and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. So what is most likely causing the email to take six hours to deliver?

  It seems that the following is to deep for the debugger in Qt even though the program uses it without problem typedef QMap <int, QStringList> day2FileNameType; typedef QMap <int, day2FileNameType> month2day2FileNameType; typedef QMap <int, month2day2FileNameType> year2month2day2FileNameType; year2month2day2FileNameType y2m2d2f; now the first 2 typeDefs work okay with the debugger but the third one retrieving data for watch view (over 100 pending request) Is it wrong for me to try and use such a typedef as year2month2day2FileNameType?

• Regex, encoding, and characters that look a like

  First, a brief example, let's say I have this "/[0-9]{2}°/" regex and this text "24º". The text won't match, obviusly ... (?) really, it depends on the character encoding. Here is my problem, I do not have control on which chars the user uses, so, I need to cover all possibilities in the regex /[0-9]{2}[°º]/, or even better, assure that the text has only the chars I'm expecting °. But I can't just remove the unknow chars otherwise the regex won't work, I need to change it to the chars that looks like it and I'm expecting. I have done this through a little function that maps the "look like" to "what I expect" and change it, the problem is, I have not covered all possibilities, for example, today I found a new "-", now we got three of them, just like latex =D - -- --- ,cool , but the regex didn't work. Does anyone knows how I might solve this?

• Ant trouble with environment variables on Ubuntu

  Having some trouble with with ant reading environment variables in Ubuntu 9.10. Specifically, the build tasks my company uses has a token like ${env.CATALINA_HOME] in the main build.xml. I set CATALINA_HOME to the correct value in /etc/environment, ~/.pam_environment and (just to be safe) my .bashrc. I can see the correct value when I run printenv from bash, or when I eval (getenv "CATALINA_HOME") in emacs. Ant refuses to build to the correct directory though; instead I get a folder named ${env.CATALINA_HOME} in the same directory as my build.xml. Any idea what's happening there, and/or how to fix it?

• MySQL Query performance - huge difference in time

  I have a query that is returning in vastly different amounts of time between 2 datasets. For one set (database A) it returns in a few seconds, for the other (database B)....well I haven't waited long enough yet, but over 10 minutes. I have dumped both of these databases to my local machine where I can reproduce the issue running MySQL 5.1.37. Curiously, database B is smaller than database A. Database A also has this state but for only a second or so. There are no differences in the table structure, indexes, keys etc between these databases (I have done show create tables and diff'd them). The sizes of the tables are: database A: po_shipment 1776 po_shipment_item 1945 po_alloc 36298 po_header 71642 EVENT_TABLE 1608 database B: po_shipment 463 po_shipment_item 470 po_alloc 3291 po_header 56149 EVENT_TABLE 1089 Some points to note: Removing the WHERE clause makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing the GROUP BY makes the query return < 1 sec. Removing ev5, ev4, ev3 etc makes the query get faster for each one removed. Can anyone suggest how to resolve this issue? What have I missed? • Using URL Routing for Web Forms with .ashx files

  I am developing a .NET 3.5 Web Forms based website that uses URL Routing. So far I have created a few routes and I have had no issue. I now have a .ashx file that is going to handle sending .pdf files from a table in SQL Server to the website when someone clicks on a link. Normally when I create a Handler it would look like this: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/ViewItem.aspx", typeof(Page)) as Page; For my .ashx file I tried: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/FileServer.ashx", typeof(Page)) as Page; This doesn't work though because fileserver.ashx is not a page so casting it as typeof(Page)) as Page is going to fail. What do I cast the VirtualPath as instead of Page or is there some other way I should be doing this.

• Incompatibilities between Indy 9 and Windows Server 2003?

  I'm having a problem with a Delphi application on some Windows 2003 servers. It uses a webservice call to connect with another server and transmit data back and forth. As soon as the app gets to the Authenticate method, the app dies. The app has worked for years on previous boxes with Win Server 2003, but it doesn't on freshly built machines. The machines are set up the same way for the most part, but there is clearly some config setting that differs that I'm not able to track down. Also, while the error becomes apparent in the call to Authenticate, packet sniffing proves that nothing ever happens between the app and the server it's trying to contact, which strengthens my thoughts that something is dieing early on in setting up the connection. I can't duplicate the error locally, so I can't step through the app in a debugger either. Any thoughts on why an Indy 9 Delphi web connection might silently fail?

  I am going to be taking over from a developer here at work soon. Hence, I'll be supporting all the applications that he has written over the last few years. My question is, when supporting an application that you probably don't know much about, what kind of documentation is most helpful to get a handle on how to fix problems, extend functionality, modify functionality, etc? I'm thinking it would need to give you an overview of what the software does, what interfaces it has to other software, what databases it uses, usernames, passwords, and so on. Is there such a thing as a software support document? Referrals to any templates would be most helpful. BTW, unfortunately, there are no requirements documents, specs, etc! So, really my question is, if my colleague had a day to write a single document for each application so that I could (more easily) support it, what would that document be and/or what would it look like?

  I have a navigation bar that uses JQuery to move between 4 stages of signup process. However I need to make sure everything is working with JS disabled. So I have these 4 link images at the bottom of the page and I need so that if one is clicked it posts to the current action so I can save all the form data and then redirect to the next stage. The redirect is easy enough as I will just pass a parameter in the route or form but I don't know how to post the method using just action links. I could put 4 different submit buttons with different classes for the image backgrounds etc but this feels wrong. Any ideas?

• Include OpenX ad in a jquery-ui dialog?

  I'm loading some content into a jquery-ui dialog via .ajax. That's all working fine but now I've been given an OpenX ad to embed into the dialog & can't figure out how to do it. I know all the script is stripped when coming in via ajax, & I know how to use $.getScript to load .js files for use in the dialog, but the OpenX ad script I've got uses document.write so I think it's expecting to be embedded inline into the desired position on the page. I've tried appending the escaped script string into the div on ajax success of the main content as below, but this results in the page being redirected to a page with just the ad on it. Attempt shown below: $("#" + idHelpPage).find(".adScript").append("<script type='text/javascript'>var m3_u = (location.protocol=='https:'?'https://d1.openx.org/ajs.php':'http://d1.openx.org/ajs.php');var m3_r = ... etc etc I'm ok with jquery but not great with javascript, would really appreciate any help!   I am writing an application which uses the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel assembly to export/import data from Excel spreadsheets. Everything was going fine (except for 1 based indexing and all those optional parameters!), until I tried to use conditional formatting. When I call Range.FormatConditions.Add I get a MissingMethodException telling me that no such method exists. This happens in both Vista and XP.   How can I make my client treat 404 Error correctly? Right now it catches a general exception... My WCF Server uses WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.SetStatusAsNotFound(); To return a 404 Error code however my WCF client interperts it as an EndPointNotFoundException There was no endpoint listening at http://myUrl that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. • RenderAction not finding action method in current controller in current area

  I'm creating an ASP.NET MVC 2 (RTM) project that uses areas. The Index action of the Home controller of one area needs to use RenderAction to generate a sub-section of the page. The action called is also defined in the same Home controller. So the call should just be: <% Html.RenderAction("List") %> However, I get an exception: A public action method 'List' was not found on controller 'RareBridge.Web.Areas.Events.Controllers.HomeController'. Note that I'm not in the "Events" area! I'm in a completely different area. If I remove the "Events" home controller, then the exception still occurs but names a different controller (still not the one I want it to call). I've also tried providing the controller name and area to the RenderAction method, but the same exception occurs. What is going on here? BTW: I am using Autofac as my IoC container
