• DBMS for POS software

  Hello, I want to develop a POS application in .NET (C#) that would be used to rent items. I have a good idea of what will be done and the famous question that I have is about the DBMS that I should use. I would like to use MySQL database. The question is: If some places use only one computer (no network, no internet connection), can I use a MySQL database in local? Do I need to install MySQL server on all thoses computers to be able to use such a database? I know SQLite but I'm not sure if the limitations can cause problems in the future... I also looked at SQLServer Express versions. (I must consider that other point of sales are using multiple computers and more transactions so there I can't put sqlexpress or sqlite) So can anybody suggest me what I should do in that situation? I have no problems connecting to Notes, accessing the database.It is easy to access all nsf files but i want to access only only nsf files in Mail Folder i.e Mail files. • Spring/Hibernate/Junit example of testing DAO against HSQLDB

  Hi guys, I'm working on trying to implement a JUnit test to check the functionality of a DAO. (The DAO will create/read a basic object/table relationship in HSQLDB). The trouble I'm having is the persistence of the DAO (for the non-test code) is being completed through an in-house solution using Spring/Hibernate, which eliminates the usual *.hbm.xml templates that most examples I have found contain. Beacuse of this, I'm having some trouble understanding how to setup a JUnit test to implement the DAO to create/read (just very basic funtionality) to an in-memory HSQLDB. I have found a few examples, but the usage of the in-house persistence means I can't extend some of the classes the examples show (I can't seem to get the application-context.xml setup properly). Can anyone suggest any projects/examples I could take a look at (or any documentation) to further my understanding of the best way to implement this test functionality? I feel like this should be really simple, but I keep running into problems implementing the examples I have found. Thanks in advance!

• Unable to connect to a local MYSQL server on wireles LAN.

  Ok, Here is the technical description. My laptop's config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.5 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Ubuntu jaunty (9.04) 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. My friend's laptop config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.4 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Windows XP pro 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. Both are on a wireless LAN connected through a belkin router (192.168.2.1) Both the MYSQL servers have been given the sufficient GRANT privileges. I am also able to connect from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5's MYSQL instance but the vice versa is not happening. I am getting an (100061) error. Tried Telnetting on 3306; again happening from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5 but not the vice versa. Am I doing something wrong? Kindly suggest.

  I am currently working on ClearCase and now migrating to GIT. But we need this migration in a way that all work will be done in GIT and the data will be synced backed to ClearCase stream. We will have the same branch names and stream names in both GIT and CC, so scripting shouldn't be a problem. The problem here is, Can someone suggest which is the best model to sync CC and GIT Have all the Vobs in CC as single repo in GIT, and have the major stream in CC as various branches in GIT. - Single GIT repo (VOBS) and many branches (CC streams). - This takes up less space as VOBs are kept as single repo with many branches. Have important CC branches as independent GIT repositories and each repository having all the CC VOBs. - Many GIT repo for many CC branch - This will take up lots of space as VOBs will be replicated across. • Creating a "less"-like console pager interface for pysqlite3 database

  I would like to add some interactive capability to a python CLI application I've writen that stores data in a SQLite3 database. Currently, my app reads-in a certain type of file, parses and analyzes, puts the analysis data into the db, and spits the formatted records to stdout (which I generally pipe to a file). There are on-the-order-of a million records in this file. Ideally, I would like to eliminate that text file situation altogether and just loop after that "parse and analyze" part, displaying a screen's worth of records, and allowing the user to page through them and enter some commands that will edit the records. The backend part I know how to do. Can anyone suggest a good starting point for creating that pager frontend either directly in the console (like the pager "less"), through ncurses, or some other system?

• CommandManager Executed Events don't fire for custom ICommands

  The WPF CommandManager allows you to do the following (pseudo-ish-code): <Button Name="SomeButton" Command="{Binding Path=ViewModelCommand}"/> And in the code-behind: private void InitCommandEvents() { CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler(this.SomeButton, SomeEventHandler); } The SomeEventHandler never gets called. To me this didn't seem like something very wrong to try and do, but if you consider what happens inside CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler, it makes sense why it doesn't. Add to that the fact that the documentation clearly states that the CommandManager only works with RoutedCommands. Nonetheless, this had me very frustrated for a while and led me to this question: What would you suggest is the best workaround for the fact that the CommandManager does not support custom ICommands? Especially if you want to add behavior around the execution of a command? For now, I fire the command manually in code behind from the button click event.

I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IEnumerable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. When I'm only displaying a single record, as in a Details view, I use ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties to obtain the list of properties for a given model. But what happens when the model I pass to the view is a collection of model or view-model objects and not a model or view-model itself? How do I obtain the ModelMetadata for a particular item in a collection?

• When to choose LAMP over ASP.NET?

  Hello. A friend wants to start a dating website, she wants me to help her. We still haven't discussed on what platform it'll be developed, but I'm thinking she'll suggest LAMP to save a buck (which is one reason already to chose over ASP.NET already). If the dating website does well, it'll potentially hold a large amount of data (I'm not sure if this would be another reason to consider either ASP.NET or LAMP). Anyway, I ask this from an ASP.NET developer point of view. I have very little, almost null experience with LAMP, and I don't like it very much either, so if she decides to go with PHP odds are I won't help her. So what would be some good points to bring up when deciding which platform to develop on? Please be objective, I don't want this to be argumentative or anything, try to stick to facts, not opinions alone. Thanks!

  Has anyone used any open source or paid .NET Control which does the conversion job from html to pdf file? At the moment, i am using Winnovative convertor control. But it has a performance limitation during the generation of bulk pages (like more than 1000) in the pdf. The limitation comes when we use bigger images in the html content. From last 4 months i've been working on the winnovative control and found plenty of major bugs in it. For a small application and usage. winnovative is good but not for the level where application will be used by thousands of clients. Please suggest.

• Obfuscating Geocode results to protect privacy?

  I have an app that finds other users within a 20 mile radius on a google map and associates an icon with each of them. However, I do not want their exact points to be given but rather an approximation. I've wrestled with a few ideas on how to do this: Only Geocode the Zip Code, make graphic icons for 1-99, use the icon to represent how many results are within the zip code, and use the info window to show hyperlinks to the individual results. The only problem is, I'd like each individual icon to be shown because it just looks a lot better. Add/Subtract a random number to the lat/lng values stored with each user and add a translucent circle around the icon. What do you guys suggest?

  There is a conflict with the ShareThis script and another script I have on my site. I've set up a test example here: http://jbrlsr.com/help.html to reproduce the issue, use FireFox and mouseover a few of the links, you'll notice "Transferring Data From" in the status bar area. Apparently found that while adding user using Admin login allows registration form to have fields like email address, username, password,confirm password, etc with validations. But when anonymous use wants to register, then only fields like email address and username are displayed. I tried with Profile module available. But now how could I add some fields (password, confirm password, terms & condition check and receive news letter check box)and behavior (password, confirm password validation etc.)? If I am adding such fields they are also get visible in AdminAdd user form resulting duplicate fields like Password,Confirm password. Could you please suggest me how can I do this? I tried googling but confused me a lot as I am beginner to Drupal.

• Classloader problems Tomcat 6 javagent

  I am using Salve Dependency Injection library that instruments the byte code of the web application. I specified -javaagent in Tomcat VM options and pointed it to the Salve agent jar. The agent jar gets loaded, but then it throws a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError unable to find classes that are in other Salve jars which are located in WEB-INF/lib folder of my web app. I can solve this problem by putting those JARs in Tomcat/endorsed folder. However, some of those jars depend on third-party libraries, such as Spring and servlet-api.jar. Therefore, I am forced to put all these dependencies in Tomcat/endorsed as well. Could anybody suggest a better way for handling dependencies of a Tomcat javaagent? Thanks.

  Hi! I am using mysql as db for my asp.net application. Here are the facts: I am using connection string from web.config which has both username and password. I can do SELECT with tableadapter. When I am trying to do INSERT with tableadapter, I am getting "mysqlexception insert command denied for user" error When I try to do INSERT programatically, i.e. using connection, command object, etc. everything is fine. In this case, I'm reading connection string from web.config, too. This can be only applied to GoDaddy hosting, but on local machine I don't have this kind of problems. Can anyone suggest what can I do to make it work on GoDaddy hosting? Regards, D
