• How can I get latency info from Android's AudioTrack class?

  I've noticed that the C++ classes underlying the AudioTrack and AudioRecord APIs in Android both have a latency() method that is not exposed via JNI. As far as I can see, the latency() method in AudioRecord still does not take into account the hardware latency (they have a TODO comment for that), but the latency() method in AudioTrack does add in the hardware latency. I absolutely need to get this latency value from AudioTrack. Is there any possible way I can do this? I don't care what kind of crazy hack is needed as long as it doesn't require a rooted phone (the resulting code must still be packaged as an app on the market).

• MySQL + MyISAM table size question

  Hello, I have a test table. The test table is as follows: CREATE TABLE mytest ( num1 int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, KEY key1 (num1) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; I inserted 50 million rows in this table. When I do show table status the avg_row_length is 7. I was expecting to see 4 since mySQL uses 4 bytes for integers. Does the key have an effect on the avg_row_length? • Writing a simple RSpec test to check that Rake tasks are correct

  I'm trying to be diligent about checking my rake tasks with RSpec tests, but in the process of feeling my way around I seem to have hit a wall. I've got a really simple RSpec test that looks like this: # ./test/meta_spec.rb describe "Rake tasks" do require 'rake' before(:each) do @rake = Rake::Application.new @rake.load_rakefile # => Error here! Rake.application = @rake end after(:each) do Rake.application = nil end it "should have at least one RSpec test to execute" do Rake.application["specs"].spec_files.size.should > 0 end end I have a simple task called "specs" defined in ./Rakefile.rb which has an RSpec task that includes all the *_spec.rb files. If I put the @rake.load_rakefile method in, I want that Rakefile to load. But instead it just bombs out. If I comment it out, however, the test fails because the "specs" task is (understandably) not defined. Where am I going wrong?

• StackOverflow Site Layout Problem in Chrome

  I was cleaning up one of my questions here and noticed that Stack Overflow's comments were overflowing into the right column in Chrome. The question is, what's the difference in CSS handling between Chrome and Firefox. I don't have access to Safari, Opera, et al. Can someone tell me in which browsers the error manifests? Is it just me? Here's the layout error: (my apologies to Tim Down for covering up his name with my comment bubble) Since I have no natural skill for good layouts and the whole process makes me sad, I wonder if someone can diagnose the error on StackOverflow and make a recommendation on how to avoid it. Is this a consequence of embedding a div inside a td? Plus I admit it. It's fun to point out an error on one of the greatest sites ever.

  A gtk.Label can't be aligned in center when line-wrap is turned on. G'day, I've read both of Steve McConnell's excellent Code Complete books "Code Complete" and "Code Complete 2" and was wondering if people have any other suggestions for commenting code. My commenting mantra could be summed up by the basic idea of expressing "what the code below cannot say". While enjoying this interesting blog post by Jeff about commenting I was still left wondering "When coding, when do you feel a comment is required?" Edit: Oops. Seems to be a duplicate of this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/121945/how-do-you-like-your-comments so sorry for the noise. Thanks to my, seemingly, SO shadow for pointing it out - wouldn't have thought I was that interesting. Now off to read the original post and see if it is relevant. Edit: I meant to emphasise the best appraoch to ensure that your comments will stay in step with the code. Maybe expressing an intent rather than the mechansim for instance.

• How do you get Eclipse/Mylyn to fill out your commit messages for you?

  I've setup the following: Installed Mylyn in Eclipse Installed the Bugzilla connector Installed Subversive SVN Integration for the Mylyn Project I've gone to Windows - Preferences - Tasks - Team and clicked Change Set Management and left it with the default Commit Comment Template: ${task.status} - ${connector.task.prefix} ${task.key}: ${task.description} ${task.url} However, if I activate a bugzilla bug in the Task List, and then edit a file, when I commit the changes the commit message isn't filled in. Also, in the Synchronisation perspective there isn't a change set for the task I'm working on. I've tried following the instructions on the Eclipse wiki's Mylyn FAQ for Why does task change set not appear when I modify files? but the bullet point: * Verify that the configured Synchronize View is configured for change sets. points to a section that is no longer in the document. I have a Show Change Sets button, but clicking it only shows me incoming change sets, there aren't any outgoing change sets. What am I missing?

• Change color of text within a RichTextBox in C#

  I have a RichTextBox that I write a string to every time I click a Form button. The string ends with a newline so each time I add a string, it appends to the bottom of the RichTextBox. Each string begins with the string "Long" or "Short" and ends with Environment.NewLine. I'd like to color each line red if it beings with "Long" and blue if it begins with "Short". How can I do this? • Show last command with up arrow on a linux c shell

  I have implemented a simple linux shell in c. Now, I am adding some features and one I immediately thought about was to be able to show the last commands with the up arrow. Question 1: However, I have no idea how to accomplish this. Do you? Question 2: Any comment on how to store the "history" commands are also appreciated. I suppose something like a queue which allows access to all elements would be a good idea. Am I wrong? Do I have to implement it or is there already some good implementation out there I should know about? Thanks.

• How to keep submit button visible and executable upon textarea onblur

  I have a <div id="comment_posting_holder"> tag that holds a form with two elements: a textarea box and a submit button. I want to have the div tag (containing the textarea and submit button) disappear if I click somewhere "OTHER" than the submit button. I have a start for the code below. So upon leaving focus from the textarea, I can make the div tag disappear. I tried placing in a mouseclick event inside the blur function for the submit button but that did not work. Any suggestions? Thank you! **Facebook does this with it's comments. • question about frequency of updating access

  i have a table in an access database this access database is used on a regular basis, basically from 9-5 someone else has a copy of this exact table. sometimes records are added, sometimes deleted, and sometimes data within the records is updated. i need to update the access database table with the offsite table every hour or so. what is the best algorithm of updating the data? there are about 5000 records. would it severely lock up the table for a few seconds every hour? i would like to publicly apologize for my rude comment to david fenton

  Hi, I am trying to specify the colClasses options in the read.csv function in R. In my data, the first column "time" is basically a character vector while the rest of the columns are numeric. data<-read.csv("test.csv" , comment.char="" , colClasses=c(time="character","numeric") , strip.white=FALSE) In the above command, I would want R to read in the "time" column as "character" and the as numeric. Although, the "data" variable did have the correct result after the command completed, R returned the following warnings. I am wondering how I could fix these warnings? Warning messages: 1: In read.table(file = file, header = header, sep = sep, quote = quote, : not all columns named in 'colClasses' exist 2: In tmp[i[i > 0L]] <- colClasses : number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length Thank in advance Derek

  Hi all, I recently created a (C#) project with Visual Studio (2010) and used some Settings (which I created under Properties). The only place I found where I can add some XML comments for my documentation, would be in Settings.Designer.cs. However this file is auto-generated so whenever I change the Settings, the comments are gone. Even Visual Studio gives started giving mewarnings, "Missing XML comment for publicity visibly type or member .... " My question here is: What is the neatest way to add XML comments to my Settings? Is there a better place than Settings.Designer.cs? Should I stop the file from being auto-generated? How? Any other way?

I checked some tutorials online and they said to comment out: bind-address = 127.0.0.1 But this didn't seem to help! is there anything specific for VPSs? or Am I missing something else? • When is a scala partial function not a partial function?

  While creating a map of String to partial functions I ran into unexpected behavior. When I create a partial function as a map element it works fine. When I allocate to a val it invokes instead. Trying to invoke the check generates an error. Is this expected? Am I doing something dumb? Comment out the check() to see the invocation. • Check malicious Redirect URL in ASP.NET

  I heard of sites using other site to redirect users either to their own site or to hide behind another site. In my code i redirect in a few places such as post a comment (its easier to use a return url then figure out the page using data given). How do i check if the return URL is my own url? I think i use absolute paths so i can easily check if the first character is '/' but then i will lose relative flexibility. This also disallows me from doing http://mysite.com/blah in the redirect url. I could patch the url by adding mysite + string but i'll need to figure out if string is a relative url or already a mysite.com url. Whats the easiest way to ensure i am only redirecting to my site?

• How do I draw an ESB on a SoaML diagram?

  I've recently had to draw some architectural diagrams that feature the use of an Enterprise Service Bus. The ESB is critical, so everyone wants it to show up on the diagram. But since it's the center of what everything is connected to, it really of gets in the way. I settled on trying to use SoaML. I color-coded the request points blue and service points green, to help then stand out. The text names on the ports give you a sense of what talks to what, and it's incredibly obvious that everything goes through the ESB. Can anyone comment on my approach? Any suggestions on something better?
