• OS X Mavericks Won't Connect To Ubuntu Server (Netatalk, Avahi)

  I'm really sorry for posting this. I know it may have been asked a thousand times. I have googled like crazy and I'm on the verge of desperation here. Basically, I followed this guide: http://motionsoundfx.com/2012/05/ubuntu-vnc-afp-macosx/ To create a small personal file server. When I installed it, I was able to connect to it just fine, I connected with my Ubuntu username and password and I was able to see the home directory. But later, I had to restart the file server so I could prepare a couple of other hard drives to put in. When the server restarted, I tried to connect to it, but I got an error message on my Mac: "The version of the server you're trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to solve this problem." Again, I have googled like crazy for this, and everybody says it is a problem with OS X Lion and up (assuming it affects Mavericks too). I have tried all the fixes mentioned for Lion and Mountain Lion and I haven't had any luck. That's the reason I'm posting this here: I suspect the problem is with my Ubuntu server. This happened after I restarted the server. Before restarting the server, I just put in my credentials and saw my home directory. Something when I restarted the server must have been messed up. I have found some other solutions, including to use "SHX2" in the conf file, but it hasn't worked for me. I ask for your help to solve this issue. Also please understand I'm completely illiterate when it comes to Linux. This is a nice chance to me to learn the OS so please give me detailed steps to do things if you deem it necessary. Thank you! • Is there any reason not to go directly from client-side Javascript to a database?

  So, let's say I'm going to build a Stack Exchange clone and I decide to use something like CouchDB as my backend store. If I use their built-in authentication and database-level authorization, is there any reason not to allow the client-side Javascript to write directly to the publicly available CouchDB server? Since this is basically a CRUD application and the business logic consists of "Only the author can edit their post" I don't see much of a need to have a layer between the client-side stuff and the database. I would simply use validation on the CouchDB side to make sure someone isn't putting in garbage data and make sure that permissions are set properly so that users can only read their own _user data. The rendering would be done client-side by something like AngularJS. In essence you could just have a CouchDB server and a bunch of "static" pages and you're good to go. You wouldn't need any kind of server-side processing, just something that could serve up the HTML pages. Opening my database up to the world seems wrong, but in this scenario I can't think of why as long as permissions are set properly. It goes against my instinct as a web developer, but I can't think of a good reason. So, why is this a bad idea? I feel like I should add a few generic assumptions instead of calling out CouchDB and AngularJS specifically. So let's assume that: The database can authenticate users directly from its hidden store All database communication would happen over SSL Data validation can (but maybe shouldn't?) be handled by the database The only authorization we care about other than admin functions is someone only being allowed to edit their own post We're perfectly fine with everyone being able to read all data (EXCEPT user records which may contain password hashes) Administrative functions would be restricted by database authorization No one can add themselves to an administrator role The database is relatively easy to scale There is little to no true business logic; this is a basic CRUD app

• Disable Password Complexity/Expiration etc. Policy on Windows Server 2008

  Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). One of the things I like to do, for development environments only is to get rid of that excessively bothersome password policies. I like to have my password as something like p@ssword1, so they are easy to remember etc. etc. Obviously never do this in production. However, Windows Server 2008 comes with a password policy that expires my passwords every 90 days, and requires me to pick complex passwords, can’t reuse passwords etc. etc. Well here is how you disable password policy on a Windows Server 2008 machine - Run Group Policy Management (gpmc.msc) Expand to your domain, look for Forest\Domains\yourdomain\default domain policy. Go to the settings tab, right click on the tab, and choose “Edit”. This will open the Group Policy Management Editor, in which - Go to Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Account Policies\Password Policy, and change the policy to whatever that suits you. Close everything, and run command prompt as administrator, and issue a “gpupdate /force” command to force the group policy update on the machine. • Should I list this work experience on my resume? [closed]

  I am currently working at a company. I did an internship before this job with a prestigious company and project itself was challenging but it was in the initial phases and hence there were no tight schedules and we ended up doing brainstorming for the first month and the 2nd month actually setting up our hardware, which is linux servers in lab and a cluster administrator for the servers. And then i wrote an addin task which runs on the server and uses existing API to collect some statistics from the the servers in the cluster and feeding them into another entity which is basically an algorithm that calculates how the load on the servers should be automatically balanced. Neither of these things went into production by the time I left the company and I'm not even sure of their current state. Does it make sense to include it in my resume then? I also worked as a software engineer right out of school at another prestigious company for 9 months. I was involved in some bug fixes before the product launched and I don't even recollect the exact fixes I made to the product. So, will it make sense to have these experiences on my resume ? Will people question me about them and will saying it was bug fixes and mentioning what kind of fixes suffice as enough to justify my work ex there ?

• Ubuntu not shutting down ( going to black screen ) 12.04

  I am currently using a USB persistent install of ubuntu. its a simple 4GB drive with a 2.8GB partition ( casper-rw storage partition ). I setup an administrator account and set it to login automatically. I also removed ubiquity to simply use this as a go anywhere install. Heres my issue. Im logged in as my account, and I click the top right gear and select "shut down". Text pops up showing its quitting processes.. etc. and then goes to the plymouth animation. But... The screen goes black, and then it goes to the login screen. Now when im at the login screen i go into terminal ( alt+F2 ) and dont you know, im logged in as Ubuntu. so then I try the following: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo shutdown now It goes to the plymouth screen again as if its shutting down, AND the screen goes black once again but the computer has not turned off, as in the usb is still flashing the light, the fans are still on, the only thing off is the screen. Is this a bug? If not maybe i did something wrong? Perhaps its that I made an account but... if there is a work around for this please let me know. Thanks again, Fox

  Oracle B2B 11g, provides the out-of-the box ability to connect to IBM MQ to exchange the message. This is support is provided via JMS offering of Oracle B2B. This is an addition to the stack of existing communication capabilities of B2B with trading partners. There are 2 ways of connecting to IBM MQ using B2B 1. Credential based connectivity 2. .bindings based connectivity As a pre-requisite to connect to IBM MQ, it is required to provide the following libraries in classpath: a. com.ibm.mqjms.jar b. dhbcore.jar c. com.ibm.mq.jar d. com.ibm.mq.jmqi.jar e. mqcontext.jar f. com.ibm.mq.pcf.jar g. com.ibm.mq.commonservices.jar h. com.ibm.mq.headers.jar i. fscontext.jar j. jms.jar Add the above jars into domain library directory and the directory usually located at $DOMAIN_DIR/lib. The jars located in this($DOMAIN_DIR/lib) directory will be picked up and added dynamically to the end of the server classpath at server startup. • missing libjpeg.so.62 from ia32 shared library

  I am trying to install a chemical/molecular biology modeling program called Molsoft ICM-Pro. Initially after downloading the program and trying to open, it gave me error messages that I was missing shared libraries, and after talking with my network administrator he recommended I install the ia32 shared libraries using sudo apt-get install ia32-libs Which gives sudo apt-get install ia32-libs Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done ia32-libs is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. so I am assuming the libraries installed correctly, but now when I try to run the program I get this error: ubuntu:/home/reilly/icmd icm icm: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory So my question is, where can I get the library containing libjpeg.so.62? Additionally, I was told I would need libXmu.so.6 and libtiff.so.3 . Is there a shared library that could be missing that would contain these files? I am an ubuntu noob, so sorry if the information I provided was unclear. Any help would be immensely appreciated! btw I am using ubuntu 12.04 dual boot with windows on an HP pavilion dv6

Here's a short bio: Elke is a Product Manager in the Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Technology Group.  She joined Oracle in 2011 after having been an Oracle customer and Oracle Technologist (Oracle Database Administrator, Oracle Applications DBA, Technical Architect and Technical Manager of an Oracle Applications DBA Team) since 1993. • Developing an internet-enabled application as a Kiosk on Windows 7

  I am finalizing development of a desktop Java application that communicates with an outside web server, and now I need to start seriously considering deployment. This application will run on a large touchscreen all-in-one workstation running Windows 7. It will be located in a public-area and thus must be LOCKED-DOWN Hanibal Lecter style. Early in the project nobody really concerned themselves with this fact just assuming that we can buy some magical software for Windows 7 that will automatically take care of all this, however I am finding now that this looks to be a LOT more complicated than my manager ever thought. I need to: - Lock down the standard hot-keys (ALT+TAB, ALT+CTRL+DEL, etc...) Prevent the user from opening ANY programs other than the kiosk application and its spawned executables Prevent the user from closing the application Start the kiosk application on startup (this can be done without kiosk software) Auto-login to Windows on reboot (Windows Updates, power failure, bratty kid pressing the power button, etc...) Administrator passcode escape sequence for routine maintenance by desktop support professionals. To my dismay I am having a really hard time finding software that contains the whole package and am finding numerous swaths of competing information on the best way to do this. I am not necessarily looking for free or open source software and am willing to pay for software that can help me achieve this. Have any of you ever wrote kiosk software before and if so what approaches have you taken to do this?

  Few days ago I started having some problems with nautilus. Basically when I'm trying to get into a folder it crashes. It's not happening all the time, but in 85% it does... Sometimes, after the crash all my desktop icons are also gone. The only thing that I think causes this is Ubuntu Tweak - I'm not sure, but the issues started after I did the Package cleaner from Ubuntu Tweaks... Any ideas? -------- EDIT ---------- First time, after running the command (nautilus --quit; nautilus --no-desktop) 3 times all the system crashed (except the mouse, I could move the mouse). • How do I install Postgres Graphical Installer?

  I am a newbie in using Ubuntu (more precisely never used linux except the production deployment ). Now I choose to hold a grip on the system and intalled a latest 11.10 Ubuntu in my 32 bit Intel** desktop. In this machine **I have a 'administrator' user 'tusar'. I want to install the PostgreSQL graphical version so downloaded this file postgresql-8.4.9-1-linux.bin from here Now If run the file with ./filename command (refuses if I am not root), it opens up the graphical interface and completes the installation (creates user postgres and ask for password, wont complete if I dont give valid password). I checked with /etc/inint.d/postgresql-8.4 status , that postgres is running. But the problem is I am unable to open the GUI (I installed it in /opt/Postgresql ), its telling permission denied even if I am logged in as 'tusar'. Then I tried using the su postgres command and it directly changed the user without password. Now if I run the psql , createdb , its prompting me to install the postgres-client-package but this utilies are already installed and I can view them in my /opt/Postgresql/8.4/bin folder. I can run query through my JDBC utility programs but unable to use neither terminal nor the graphical interface (although I can see pgAdmin3 is there ). Urgent help needed. I have used this guide for the installation.

• SSO between multiple Flex applications

  We have three applications developed in Flex and all these use BlazeDS. These applications have their own authentication implementations (Database). Also they will be deployed in tomcat. Deploying all these applications in the same tomcat instance is acceptable for us. We want to bring the authentication credentials of all these applications into a single place and also provide SSO feature between these applications. We also want the authentication module to be configurable. Something like the system administrator can decide if the authentication should be done against a database or LDAP. Say, if the user successfully logs into app1, and when he access app2 in the same browser he should be automatically logged in. Same goes for logout as well. We have been exploring OpenAM, jGuard and JOSSO. I'm not sure if these require lot of customization to work with Flex. I would like to know how people are implementing SSO for Flex applications. Is there a common and simple SSO solution available for Flex based applications ?

• Read-only lock on a SharePoint site collection, or Why can't I edit anymore?

  Monday morning, the calls started.  For some reason, long-time users were unable to edit list items.  I figured we had a permissions issue, so I popped in to look at the Site Settings -- and found that I couldn't.  A quick trip to Central Administration showed that I was still listed as a Site Collection Administrator, but I had no power at all on the site collection in question.A quick glance at the logs told me that the server had recently shut down unexpectedly (this is a Hyper-V virtual machine).  Apparently, in the confusion, somehow SharePoint decided to lock the site collection as Read Only.  This can be remedied in one of two ways:1)  In Central Administration, go to Application Management->SharePoint Site Management->Site collection quotas and locks.  Once you have arrived, select the correct application and site collection, and you will have the opportunity to view and set the lock status of the collection (it most likely will be set to "Read-only", and you'll want to move that radio button to "Not locked").2)  Fire up stsadm and issue the following command:stsadm -o setsitelock -url http://myportalsitecollection -lock none

  This is a reminder that Oracle will retire Oracle Linux System Administration (1Z0-403) and Oracle Linux Fundamentals (1Z0-402) on October 31, 2013. We will also re-release exam 1Z0-402 as Oracle Linux Fundamentals (1Z0-409) on November 1, 2013. New Oracle Linux 5 and 6 OCA and OCP certifications are now available. Existing certification holders should note that these retirements suspend the delivery of any further exams, but do not affect your certification. If you currently hold a certification earned by one of these exams, your credential remains fully valid. Retiring Certification Path Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate Retiring Exam 1Z0-402 Oracle Linux Fundamentals (this will be re-released as Oracle Linux Fundamentals (1Z0-409) and lead to the  Oracle Linux Certified Implementation Specialist certification.) 1Z0-403 Oracle Linux System Administration These exams will continue to be offered through October 31, 2013.
