• How can I change the UI language of QT Creator 1.3.1?

  I just downloaded and installed QT Creator 1.3.1 on my english Windows 7 system from the english download site at http://qt.nokia.com/downloads Apparently, however, the UI of QT Creator is in German language, although the help files are in English. From the FAQ at http://www.qt.gitorious.org/qt-creator/pages/FrequentlyAskedQuestions I found the answer Qt Creator uses the language setting of the system it runs on. On Linux systems you can also override that language by setting the LANG environment variable prior to starting Qt Creator, e.g. on the command line LANG=de ./qtcreator will run Qt Creator with german interface. This, however, is apparently not correct, as I have an English Windows, and as system locale I have "English (United Kingdom)" set. Possibly QT Creator interprets mistakenly the Windows settings for "current location", which I have set to "Germany" to mean that German would also be my language. However, changing that value had apparently no effect (maybe it should have been done before installing QT Creator). Is there any way to change the UI language of QT creator to english after installing it, preferrably without adjusting global system settings?

• RIA IDE - Visual Studio 2010, FlashBuilder and ExtJS Designer

  I've been playing around with Flex4 - the trial version - and is really quite good in terms of layout development - since I'm starting a new RIA project and we still on the "what platform" phase I better listen what you guys have to say. In Flashbuilder I can do the layout and mix with the back end script code really fast - the version 4 give me the power to even test the functionality of the server side script, etc and since I can use Fllashbuilder as a Eclipse plugin, I end up with only one IDE. On the other hand, with Silverlight, it looks like if I want a "drag and drop" approach to build my interface I would need Expression Blend and Visual Studio (full or express version). Is there a way out that? I mean, Visual Studio 2010 will come with some sort of Silverlight component palet so that you can easily drag and drop it on your interface like you would do with WPF, etc? I don't wanna use Blend - is way too much for what we need - taking the "coding XAML" by hand is out of question as well. A third approach is to use ExtJS - they have a new designer IDE that looks promising.

• Using a Mac for cross platform development?

  Who uses Macs for cross-platform development? By cross platform I essentially mean you can compile to target Windows or Unix (not necessarily both at the same time). I understand that this also has a lot to do with writing portable code, but I am more interested in people's experience with Mac OS X to develop software. I understand that there are a range of IDEs to choose from, I would probably use Eclipse (I like the GCC toolchain) however Xcode seems to be quite popular. Could it be used as described above? At a pinch I could always virtualise with VirtualBox or VMware Player or parallels to use Visual Studio (or dual boot for that matter). Having said that I am open to any other suggested compilers (with preferably an IDE that uses GCC.) Also with the range of Macs available, which one would you recommend? I would prefer a laptop (as I already have a desktop) but am unsure of reasonable specifications. If you are currently using a Mac to do development, I would love to hear what you develop on your Mac and what you like and don't like about it. I would primarily be developing in C/C++/Java. I am also looking to experiment with Boost and Qt, so I'm interested in hearing about any (potential) compatibility issues. If you have any other tips I'd love you hear what you have to say.

• iPod/iPhone OpenGL ES UIView flashes when updating

  I have a simple iPhone application which uses OpenGL ES (v1) to draw a line based on the touches of the user. In the XCode Simulator, the code works perfectly. However, when I install the app onto an iPod or iPhone, the OpenGL ES view "flashes" when drawing the line. If I disable the line drawing, the flash disappears. By "flash", I mean that the background image (which is an OpenGL texture) disappears momentarily, and then reappears. It appears as if the entire scene is completely erased and redrawn.   Hello, I moved to a new server with integrated merak mail. since I forgot merak(used before), i missed to configure security options. So before I realize the issue, my smtp server was used by spammers for 2 days, hundreds times I configured security settings as what it should be (at least i hope) then i realize, i can't send e-mail to gmail or hotmail. gmail says "550 5.7.1 see our Bulk Email Senders Guidelines" yes, I saw its guidelines. first, I creat SPF records via msn senderID wizard. it completed very well. then as gmail says, I created DKIM dns records. (in Merak mail, there is option to create DKIM, i created it and save it to DNS as TXT record) it's been 2 days after doing the fixes above. but still i can't send mail gmail or hotmail. (P.S, some of my domain in merak is forwarded to my gmail account i mean when a mail arrives to [email protected] it will forward to my gmail. and the surprise it, merak mail can forward them very vell :S but can't still send mail from outlook etc.)

• Invoking WCF functions using Reflection

  I am pretty new to WCF applications. I have a WCF application that is using NetTcpBinding. I wanted to invoke the functions in WCF service using the System.Reflection's Methodbase Invoke method. I mean I wanted to Dynamically call the Function by passing the String as the Function name. Reflection works great for Web Service or a Windows application or any dll or class. So their is certain way to do this for WCF also but I am not able to find that. I am getting the Assembly Name than it's type everything fine but as we cannot create an instance of the Interface class I tried to open the WCF connection using the binding and tried to pass that object but it's throwing the exception as : "Object does not match target type." I have opened the connection and passed the object and type is of interface only. I don't know whether I'm trying wrong thing or in wrong way. Any idea how shall I accomplish this??? The NetTCPBinding all are properly given while opening the connection. And one more thing I am using WCF as a Windows Service using NETTCPBinding.

  I wrote a component to display current FPS. By strange things I mean that sometimes FPS drasticly decreases, this is obvious, but displayed FPS changes more often than once a second. If I understand this code FPS can't change more often than once a second. Can someone explain me what's going on?

• Using .NET's HttpWebRequest to download a multitude of files in a row

  I have an application that needs to download several files in a row in succession (sometimes a few thousand). However, what ends up happening when several files need to be downloaded is I get an exception with an inner exception of type SocketException and the error code 10048 (WSAEADDRINUSE). I did some digging and basically it's because the server has run out of sockets (and they are all waiting for 240s or so before they become available again) - not coincidentally it starts happening around the 1024 file range. I would expect that the HttpWebRequest/ServicePointManager would be reusing my connection, but apparently it is not (and the files are https, so that may be part of it). I never saw this problem in the C++ code that this was ported from (but that doesn't mean it didn't ever happen - I'd be surprised if it was, though). I am properly closing the WebRequest object and the HttpWebRequest object has KeepAlive set to true by default. Next my intent is to fiddle around with ServicePointManager.SetTcpKeepAlive(). However, I can't see how more people haven't run into this problem. Has anyone else run into the problem, and if so, what did you do to get around it? Currently I have a retry scheme that detects this error and waits it out, but that doesn't seem like the right thing to do. • Embedding SWF in Powerpoint VSTO

  hi guys, I was wondering if there is someway to embed a Flash Shockwave Object or .SWF file in MS Powerpoint (Presentation) 2007 and higher version. ie inside ".pptx" formats . by embed i mean when i save the presentation,close it . i wont be needing the the .swf file again.that way i can share the Presentations with others. If i use this link Insert-Flash-Into-PowerPoint-2007,it works but when i save and close the presentation,the swf file doesnt get embeded. (Note:if i do the same with a .ppt file,it works correctly.) I know we can embed the swf inside powerpoint presentation version 2003 ie.".ppt" format. but couldn't do the same in .pptx format. Also is it possible to embed .swf file in .pptx using OpenXML format? I tried to rename the ".pptx" file to ".zip" and added the ".swf" in media folder. and then renamed it back to ".pptx",but when opened in Powerpoint,it gave error about unreadable content or corruption. I had read somewhere that its kind of strategy from MS not to provide this kind of support for Adobe Swf file / ActiveX object. and as of now the feature is not supported. • Default Transaction Timeout

  I used to set Transaction timeouts by using TransactionOptions.Timeout, but have decided for ease of maintenance to use the config approach: <system.transactions> <defaultSettings timeout="00:01:00" /> </system.transactions> Of course, after putting this in, I wanted to test it was working, so reduced the timeout to 5 seconds, then ran a test that lasted longer than this - but the transaction does not appear to abort! If I adjust the test to set TransactionOptions.Timeout to 5 seconds, the test works as expected After Investigating I think the problem appears to relate to TransactionOptions.Timeout, even though I'm no longer using it. I still need to use TransactionOptions so I can set IsolationLevel, but I no longer set the Timeout value, if I look at this object after I create it, the timeout value is 00:00:00, which equates to infinity. Does this mean my value set in the config file is being ignored? To summarise: Is it impossible to mix the config setting, and use of TransactionOptions If not, is there any way to extract the config setting at runtime, and use this to set the Timeout property [Edit] OR Set the default isolation-level without using TransactionOptions

• Zend Studio Debugger returns Application Error

  When I run debug for my public/index.php I got an application error as output. I've seen that it occurs at this line: foreach($feed->findFeedEntries($entriesLimit) as $entry) If I put a breakpoint before this, all works as expected, I mean, the error is after the line above. If I remove findFeedEntries() method, I can perform debugging without erros. • iPhone nextResponder switching keyboards

  iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 4 (I am downloading B5 to see if this clears this up) To me this seems like a bug, but maybe I am missing something. The linked test program illustrates this problem. I have several UITextFields that I am linking together using the Tag property. In textFieldShouldReturn I get the next UITextField and set it as the active responder. The problem arises with the IB settings for the keyboard type. In the test program I have the first two text fields set to default. The next three text fields are set to numeric and symbols. As you move into the set (bottom three) that use the numeric/symbol keyboard the keyboard will toggle between numeric/symbol and the default. What I mean is the third field will display the numeric/symbol. The second Default. The third numeric/symbol. If you add more text fields setup as numeric/symbol this will continue on. Now if you tab into the forth field (it should bring up the default) and then manually select the numeric/symbol. The problem will disappear. I have tried various things to track down why the problem disappears. No luck so far. Sample Project

  Hi I already have experience in developing websites using java technologies ... Now i have a task to develop another website and i have the liberty to select technology to built. I dont want to built using Java/J2ee standard technology as i want to learn new language. The specification about website i can give is that: 1) its a real estate based site. 2) so it will have a db of real estate data around million records 3) website will have more than 1000 hits /day and will have various functionality like search, add , delete,generate reports etc. So i mean UI should be good and fast. Technologies i have in mind .NEt( i have already worked on it but it licensed so may not go for it) , Groovy, Ruby on rails ,Play, GWT etc ... I am a college student and the website is again of a student(non techie guy) so i have 5-6 mnths to bring the website up I have read about them but all have adv and disadv but would like to hear from people who have used it and can tell me what they felt about the languages and problems while developing it..   This is somewhat related to the question posed in this question but I'm trying to do this with an abstract base class. For the purposes of this example lets use these models: class Comic(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=20) desc = models.CharField(max_length=100) volume = models.IntegerField() ... <50 other things that make up a Comic> class Meta: abstract = True class InkedComic(Comic): lines = models.IntegerField() class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) In the view lets say we get a reference to an InkedComic id since the tracer, err I mean, inker is done drawing the lines and it's time to add color. Once the view has added all the color we want to save a ColoredComic to the db. Obviously we could do inked = InkedComic.object.get(pk=ink_id) colored = ColoredComic() colored.name = inked.name etc, etc. But really it'd be nice to do: colored = ColoredComic(inked_comic=inked) colored.colored = True colored.save() I tried to do class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) def __init__(self, inked_comic = False, *args, **kwargs): super(ColoredComic, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) if inked_comic: self.__dict__.update(inked_comic.__dict__) self.__dict__.update({'id': None}) # Remove pk field value but it turns out the ColoredComic.objects.get(pk=1) call sticks the pk into the inked_comic keyword, which is obviously not intended. (and actually results in a int does not have a dict exception) My brain is fried at this point, am I missing something obvious, or is there a better way to do this?

• eclipse tomcat debug mode slow - pegs cpu

  Running Tomcat through eclipse works fine in non-debug mode, but not in debug mode. When I try to start the Tomcat server in debug mode, the console output looks fine for a while, but then starts slowing down and eventually just stops, pegging the cpu at 100%. I had been running fine in debug-mode for several months prior to this issue. I didn't make any significant changes to our project that would cause this. Eventually, I upgraded to eclipse galileo which solved my problem. Now 2 days later, I'm having the same problem in galileo. Like I said it works fine in non-debug mode. Any help is much appreciated. I should add that other things work in debug mode - for instance junit tests, so it is something specific to tomcat.

  Recently, I used my favorite image editor to make a 1x1 black pixel (which can come in handy when you want to draw solid boxes in HTML cheaply). Even though I made it a monochrome PNG, it came out to be 120 bytes! I mean, that's kind of steep. 120 bytes. For one pixel. I then converted it to a GIF, which dropped the size down to 43 bytes. Much better, but still... Challenge The shortest image file or program that is or generates a 1x1 black pixel. A submission may be: An image file that represents a 1x1 black pixel. The format chosen must be able to represent larger images than 1x1, and cannot be ad-hoc (that is, it can't be an image format you just made up for code golf). Image files will be ranked by byte count. A program that generates such an image file. Programs will be ranked by character count, as usual in code golf. As long as an answer falls into one of these two categories, anything is fair game.

  Hi ppl, I wanted to know the different standards of sorting. To be more specific take the sample set: (Please note there's capitals, small letters, special characters, null values and numbers here) A a 3F Zx - 1Ad NULL How would the Oracle Database sort this by default? How would LINQ sort this by default? How would db2 sort this by default? (the following may get even more vague) How does the Windows platform sort this? (I mean say you have a couple of filenames, by default how would this get treated in a name sort) How does the *nix platform sort this? Is there some sort of standard for alphanumeric/special character sorting? The Windows operating system orders with numbers first, then alphabets. The Oracle database however treats alphabets first. I'm not sure of the *nix platform. It would be nice to have one place to know all these rules for the most common platforms (listed in questions above). • Yet another Subversion "Commit failed" MERGE of 'blabla': 200 OK

  Hi! I get the infamous "MERGE of 'whatever': 200 OK" whenever I try to commit using a post-commit hook on Windows (running the repository and Trac locally), and I'm going crazy. I've been looking all over for a day now, without finding any solutions. So here's how it's set up and what I've tried so far: Settings: Windows 7 (64-bit) VisualSVN Server TortoiseSVN Trac 0.11.6 I'm using the three standard scripts for post-commit on Windows. Everything works when I run post-commit.cmd from the command prompt with repo and changesetnumber as parameters. After extensive trouble-shooting, I found that if I remove the last line in trac-post-commit.cmd, Python "%~dp0\trac-post-commit-hook.py" -p "%TRAC_ENV%" -r "%REV%" -u "%AUTHOR%" -m "%LOG%", the Commit failed error goes away. Adding 1/0 (generating a division by zero error) in the python script doesn't show anything different. From the command prompt I get an error, though. Removing all code in the python script also makes the commit failed go away, so I guess the culprit is in trac-post-commit-hook.py. • How can i handle a form submit using REAL OOP in PHP

  Im used to java and creating UML.. and i was wondering how can PHP be OOP, the objects live only until you make a request.. then they destroy, so if im using a database is useless to create a class and add the members (variables) to the class, they will be useless.. i cant pass the main system object from one page to another, or similar so how can PHP be compare to jave? you never do OOP .. i mean REAL OOP.. not creating classes , in fact your index will be a procedural file with some object instance and then ? how about if i make a html form and i want to submit the data.. i have to call a file which is not a class is a php procedural file were i grab the submited data with POST, from that file you will instance a class and do some logic there.. but for me thats not pure OOP.. can somebody point me to the right way of OOP using a form submit example ? • [Linq to SQL] Multiple foreign keys to the same table

  I have a reference table with all sorts of controlled value lookup data for gender, address type, contact type, etc. Many tables have multiple foreign keys to this reference table I also have many-to-many association tables that have two foreign keys to the same table. Unfortunately, when these tables are pulled into a Linq model and the DBML is generated, SQLMetal does not look at the names of the foreign key columns, or the names of the constraints, but only at the target table. So I end up with members called Reference1, Reference2, ... not very maintenance-friendly. Example: <Association Name="tb_reference_tb_account" Member="tb_reference" <====== ThisKey="shipping_preference_type_id" OtherKey="id" Type="tb_reference" IsForeignKey="true" /> <Association Name="tb_reference_tb_account1" Member="tb_reference1" <====== ThisKey="status_type_id" OtherKey="id" Type="tb_reference" IsForeignKey="true" /> I can go into the DBML and manually change the member names, of course, but this would mean I can no longer round-trip my database schema. This is not an option at the current stage of the model, which is still evolving. Splitting the reference table into n individual tables is also not desirable. I can probably write a script that runs against the XML after each generation and replaces the member name with something derived from ThisKey (since I adhere to a naming convention for these types of keys). Has anybody found a better solution to this problem?

• posting nutch data into a BASIC auth secured Solr instance

  Hi. I've secured a solr instance using BASIC auth, kind of how it is shown here: http://blog.comtaste.com/2009/02/securing_your_solr_server_on_t.html Now i'm trying to update my batch processes to push data into the authenticated instance. The ones using "curl" are easy, but i also have a Nutch crawl that uses the "solrindex" command to push data into Solr. Here are my question(s) Is this possible to do? ie push from nutch into a BASIC auth secured Solr instance? Is it possible to tell commons-httpclient about a credential without explicitly doing an _httpclient.getState().setCredentials(...)? Anyother ideas? One idea i had was to use an IPfiltering Valve for just the "update" Solr webservices. That would mean you could only make an update call from certain nodes. Thanks

• Incorporating the Windows 7 onscreen keyboard into a WPF app

  Windows 7 has a really nice onscreen keyboard program/control for touchscreens. I have a touchscreen app that was originally written for, and will be deployed on, XP. Is it possible to incorporate this keyboard directly into my app, rather than me using a custom control? I can find no programmatic information about it, so any links would be very helpful. Specifically, I'd need: To be able to use the keyboard on an XP machine that will have .NET 3.5 sp1 installed on it. To be able to hide the native keyboard on Windows 7, because I've already incorporated the touchscreen keyboard in my UI and so I don't need another one cluttering up the UI. This native keyboard has two attractive aspects to it. First off, it's automatically localized to the customer's language (though the rest of the app will need modification), and second off, it doesn't seem to suffer from 'touch lag' as the OS tries to figure out whether or not I'm doing a gesture, because I'm clearly typing on a keyboard. The app is WPF based, which should mean easy integration with Windows 7 based controls. EDIT: I'd really like the XP thing, but it's not a requirement. The ability to use the keyboard in Win7, though, seems like it should be possible and even the right way to do it.

• ng-grid checkbox with filtering

  If I have a huge table with ng-grid, and I enabled a checkbox to select all. Is there a way for me to combine this selectAll feature with the filtering box. I mean when I filter out the rows, I want to click the checkbox so that the rows filtered will be all selected; once I clean out filter, those selectedRows are still left so that I can add more rows into it with other filters. • jQuery UI Tabs customization for many tabs

  I'd like to implement a tab bar using jquery-ui-tabs that has been customised to work like it does on HootSuite. Try this on HootSuite to see what I mean: Log in to your hootsuite.com account Click the + symbol to the right of your tabs Add tabs named "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" until a "More..." tab appears You'll see this: HootSuite includes the following features, all of which I would like to do: Fit as many tabs as possible onto the screen. Users with larger screens would see more tabs. If they run out of space, a "More..." tab would appear with a drop-down list Clicking onto the More tab would drop down a list of additional tabs Tabs can be dragged and rearranged. Tabs in the More drop-down list can be dragged to the tab bar Delete tabs with a small X next to the tab name Add tabs with a + icon to the right of the last tab I already have a tab bar working that does 4 and 6. I found a Paging Tab Plugin which is pretty cool, but works differently. Does anyone know of plugins or techniques that would help me accomplish the above? My thought is to not really make the More tab a real tab, but just an object that looks like a tab. I'd add logic to the tabs.add method to calculate if another tab can fit. If it can't, then I would add the details of the tab to my separate "More" list. There'd be a fair amount of effort to get this all working, so if there are any plugins that would help, I'd love to hear about them.

• What's slowing for loops/assignment vs. C?

  I have a collection of PHP scripts that are extremely CPU intensive, juggling millions of calculations across hundreds of simultaneous users. I'm trying to find a way to speed up the internals of PHP variable assignment, and looping sequences vs C. Although PHP is obviously loosely typed, is there any way/extension to specifically assign type (assign, not cast, which seems even more expensive) in a C-style fashion? Here's what I mean. This is some dummy code in C: #include <stdio.h> int main() { unsigned long add=0; for(unsigned long x=0;x<100000000;x++) { add = x*59328409238; } printf("x is %ld\n",add); } Pretty self-explanatory -- it loops 100 million times, multiples each iteration by an arbitrary number of some 59 billion, assigns it to a variable and prints it out. On my Macbook, compiling it and running it produced: lees-macbook-pro:Desktop lee$ time ./test2 x is 5932840864471590762 real 0m0.266s user 0m0.253s sys 0m0.002s Pretty darn fast! A similar script in PHP 5.3 CLI... <?php for($i=0;$i<100000000;$i++){ $a=$i*59328409238; } echo $a."\n"; ?> ... produced: lees-macbook-pro:Desktop lee$ time /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/php test3.php 5.93284086447E+18 real 0m22.837s user 0m22.110s sys 0m0.078s Over 22 seconds vs 0.2! I realize PHP is doing a heck of a lot more behind the scenes than this simple C program - but is there any way to make the PHP internals to behave more 'natively' on primitive types and loops?
