• Best Practice: Migrating Email Boxes (maildir format)

  So here's the situation. I've got about 20,000 maildir email accounts chewing up a several hundred GB of space on our email server. Maildir by nature keeps thousands of tiny a** little files, instead of one .mbox file or the like... So i need to migrate all of these several millions of files from one server to the other, for both space and life-cycle reasons. the conventional methods i would use all work just fine. rsync is the option that comes immediately to mind, however i wanted to see if there are any other "better" options out there. Rsync not handling multi-threaded transfers in this situation sucks because it never actually gets up to speed and saturates my network connection, because of this the transfer from one server to another will take hours beyond hours, when it shouldn't really take more then one or two. I know this is highly opinionated and subjective and will therefore be marked community wiki.

• Windows 2003 - RAS service - VPN client can only connect to server, not internal network

  Here is my diagram http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/vpnt.png/ Server has two NIC: One connect to Internet, one connect to internal network. RAS service is configured with static IP pool on the same subnet of internal network (10.10.0.x). The problem is when a client connect to server, client can connect to server(10.10.0.10), but cannot connect to another host locate in internal network (10.10.0.11) even cannot ping to 10.10.0.50. RAS configured with IP routing enabled, client connect with options: Use default gateway on remote network. I'm messed up and can not figure out what wrong. Please help me T_T. TIA, giobuon

• Conflicts with MS Office temporary files when using Offline Folders on Vista

  We are using Offline Folders feature of Windows Vista to make files on network shares available when out of office. Mostly it is working, but every time I do a sync I get a lot of such errors: D500E7B8.tmp - A file was deleted on this computer and changed on the server while this computer was offline. There are hundreds of them. I always select all of them and choose resolution "Delete from both locations". But what is causing this and how can I avoid it? I suspect the reason is that we are using Debian and Samba (3.4.7) on our file server. I've been looking for some Samba options that would cure this, but with no success. I learned that probably the cause is, that both Word and Excel are using specific pattern to change files - they never change the original file, but instead always write a new temporary file and rename it to original file, when you click Save. • Web server replica not working in other server

  I have a Drupal installation (php+mysql) in a server, and I'm trying to copy this installation to another server with the same configuration, same physical and virtual path, same db configuration, etc. The thing is, in my new server I get the homepage to work, but not the inner pages, so I guess has something to do with rewrite (mod_rewrite is installed) (both .htaccess are the same). When I access http://localhost/myweb/content/mypage I get a 404 or a "Forbidden" if I uncomment this in httpd.conf (original httpd.conf does not have this entry): <Directory path/to/docs"> DirectoryIndex index.php index.html Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Any clue? • scrape data from a website and post it on the blog (wordpress)

  This could be in DocType But I'm looking for a software or just a plugin for wordpress. I wanted to fetch those data from a website and automatically post it on my blog (Wordpress powered). It doesn't have rss or api to get those data, so I need to manually copy and paste it one-by-one and post it on wordpress. • IE 9 home page is hijacked by avg

  I definitely know how to change the home page in Internet Explorer (Tools -> Options -> General). The problem is, no matter what I put there, it never changes. Stop/restart Internet Explorer and the old home page is back. I did some research to see if there is a registry key that I could tweak to get the home page to set properly. I changed the start page registry key and refreshed the view and the start page key (without even restarting regedit) was reset back to its original value. Now I'm a little concerned. • What Software or tool to ease the building of an eye catching GUI (functional) [closed]

  I want to make a control panel that opens different files but I'm not sure what would be the right tool/Sw to make this. In the company we have about 30 files that we use almost every day. They are all related to each other. I would like to create a "Control panel" to ease the opening and searching of these files. Kind of a control panel with 30 buttons. The only duty of this control panel is to open one of the file selected by the user. I need this "Control Panel" to: Look GREAT Open very fast Could you please recomend me some tool/Sw to acomplish this. What tool or SW is specially focused to make stunning GUIs? Note: In the company We are all using MS Windos 7. Thanks for the help! EDIT: This would be a Stand alone program installed or saved in a network drive. Each person can open the porgram and it pops the GUI. Not for the web. "Looks GREAT" is definitively a subjective matter. I want something that gives me plenty options to display/modify the objetcs that compose the GUI. So i can experiment and find what looks and works the best.

  I am moving a scheduled task from a Windows 7 machine to a Windows Server 2003 machine. On Windows 7 I can configure my task to run every hour indefinitely by setting up a custom trigger like so: On Windows Server 2003, I assume I need to use the advanced schedule options, and I have got this far: Whether I choose duration or time, my task seems to have an expiry date, how do I get this to run indefinitely? The only thing I can think of at the minute is to setup 24 schedules for my task, one for each hour but there has to be a more elegant way. Thanks

• Cannot connect to wireless network

  I am quite new to using Ubuntu 12.10. All I remember while installing Ubuntu 12.10 was that I didn't check any box specifically to enable wireless connectivity. I tried looking into the various questions posted here - most of them refer to certain commands (redundantly sudo) and things of that sort. I am quite new and wasn't sure of understanding what those commands were trying to do (the network configuration settings - showed up different options, like 'Wireless', 'Wired', 'IPv4', 'IPv6' etc -- I am not sure of what sort of settings are to be made - like for example what sort of 'WEP' settings etc are to be made. Although I wasn't able to connect to the wireless network, I was able to connect to the internet, once I plugged in the ethernet cable. Can someone help me with: 1) Understandng a way to see if Ubuntu is configured to connect to a wireless network. 2) If so - Getting to configure to a wireless network (setting up a new one). 3) Where in ubuntu, should I look for seeing if there are any hardware devices (such as the Broadcom wireless adapter or things of that sort - like the way we use the 'Device manager' in Windows to look into the adapter settings). 4) Reference material to learn and understand the various ubuntu commands. (things like the -lshw etc).

  Hi, I have problem with one my conputer, it does not display any website properly. The background clouds on some websites do not show up, the layout of some websites are not properly displayed. And it only happen to only one computer. OS: Windows XP IE: 7 (not working on either IE7 or IE 8) I have tried to add my website as trusted site still that site is not working properly. I also tried Internet Options Advanced ... Check Show images, smart image dithering, enable visual styles in button and controls on webwage. Is there anything else I could do to fix the problem? • .NET app - Should we use SQL Server and duplicate some reference data from an external Oracle DB? Or use Oracle and have a DB link?

  We're looking to migrate some existing Excel/Access processes into a new system which will provide the users with a Silverlight frontend to run and view the reports instead of using MS Access. The initial idea was to have SQL Server 2008 as RDBMS. The problem is that we've got some static data such as country codes, counterparties, etc which live in an existing Oracle DB. Since we do not want to duplicate that data (if possible), we were thinking of having a DB link between SQL Server and Oracle, but our firm does not allow that. So the options are either duplicate the data or use Oracle as RDBMS - surprise, the firm does allow DB links between Oracle databases. The initial idea was also to use WCF RIA Services, Entity Framework, etc which we're not sure they play well with Oracle, that's why it was decided to go with SQL Server in the first place. Would you advise to go for Oracle so that we can just link the static data? Or use SQL Server 2008 and replicate it because it's "safer" to stay within the Microsoft land? To use or not to use Entity Framework and WCF RIA Services at all? Regards. UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your answers. Nothing is set in stone yet. We'll try to import the data instead of linking, as if the other DB goes down, our system can still carry on. We're likely to use SQL Server just because most developers are more experienced with it. Even if we used RIA Services, we can swap out the Data Access Layer and use other frameworks such those mentioned below.

• Completely hiding nginx server response header

  I'm having trouble hiding my server header (nginx 1.2.1). I've google'd it and it seems all I have to do is to set server_tokens off; in nginx.conf. But doing this only removed the version number, but it still shows nginx as the server. I've seen there's a module called HttpHeadersMoreModule but I don't need all those fancy options. All I want is to hide the header. How can I manually hide the header completely?

• Can't type text into table cell when form is protected in Word 2002

  I created several tables in an Word 2002 document to act as a form for users to fill out. In some cells I added check boxes and dropdown lists for people to select options from. When I click on the Protect form button the check boxes and dropdowns become active; however, I can't type anything in the other cells. If I click in an empty cell it automatically moves to the next checkbox. When I unprotect the form then I can type in the empty cells but then checkboxes and dropdowns become useless. I know that the user can double click on the checkbox and then manually select to have it checked, but they can't do this with the dropdowns. What do I have to do to allow the user to type in responses to the tables cells and also select answers from checkboxes and dropdowns? Thanks!

Complex: What is estimated price for an house at "DD,Some Street,XYZ Post Code" (worked out from average values of historic data filtered by various characteristics of the house: house post code, no of bed rooms, total area, and other deeper insights like house building type, year of built, features)? In addition to average price, the application should support other property info ** maximum, or minimum price..etc and trend (graph) on a selected property attribute over a period of time**. Hence, the queries should not enforce the search based on a primary key or few fixed fields In other words, queries can be What is the change in 3 Bed Room house price (irrespective of location) over last 30 days? What kind of properties we can get for X price (irrespective of location or house type) The challenge I have is identifying the domain (BI/ Data Analytical or DB Design or DB Query Interface or DW related or something else) this problem (dynamic query on historic data) belong to, so that I can do further exploration My findings so far I could be wrong on the following, so please correct me if you think so I briefly read about BI/Data Analytics - I think it is heavy weight solution for my problem and has scalability issues. DB Design - As I understand RDBMS works well if you know Data model at design time. • Is it possible to use bittorrent for a fileserver

  I would like to set up a file server that is searchable, preferable via the web. I'm wondering if it would be possible to achieve this using the bittorrent protocol and have a single client sharing every single torrent on the server. I guess I could use some available tracker solution for the webinterface or write one myself. My concerns are the if there are any limits to the number of torrents a single client can share since this may potentially be 10k torrents. The number of downloading clients is very small, only myself and my relatives. The idea is to have a single place to host everything from vacation photos to musical creations. Is there any other options for this kind of file server. It should also be easy to upload files to the server.

• How do I get PHP to work with UserDir

  I've got a fresh CentOS 5.5 box and have installed Webmin+VirtualMin 3.79. I've enabled UserDir in apache and the sites are visible via http://ipaddress/~user/ but PHP does not work. (PHP works fine if I visit the site via it's domain) Here's what I put in my httpd.conf to get where I'm at: <IfModule mod_userdir.c> UserDir public_html </IfModule> <Directory /home/*/public_html> Options -Indexes +IncludesNOEXEC +FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI allow from all AllowOverride All AddHandler fcgid-script .php AddHandler fcgid-script .php5 </Directory> When I try to hit a PHP file, I get a 500 error and the following is logged to /var/log/httpd/error_log: suexec failure: could not open log file fopen: Permission denied Any help/direction is appreciated.

• wget recursively with -np option still ascends to parent directory

  tl;dr: will `wget --no-parrent -r ' download from a directory above the given url's directory? when using wget to download, say images, recursively from example.com/a/b with the -r and -np options, will a picture that is under example.com/a/c/ be downloaded when example.com/a/b/ delivers a html-file containing a link to the picture? if so, how do i get all pictures, that are in a folder and it's subfolders and only those? the description of the option --no-parent says "Do not ever ascend to the parent directory when retrieving recursively". anyway directory browsing delivers a link to the parent directory, which wget will follow, despite mentioned option. now what did i miss? edit: using GNU Wget 1.12

• Vim quit insert mode when navigate with mapping keys

  In order to move the cursor in insert mode, I add the following key maps in my .vimrc(I use vim 7.3 on Sun OS) inoremap <Alt-h> <Left> inoremap <Alt-j> <Down> inoremap <Alt-k> <Up> inoremap <Alt-l> <Right> When I press the mapping keys, the cursor moves correct, but vim will quit insert mode and switch to normal mode, what's wrong with my vim? I also tried this with my gvim on Windows, it works well. Did I lost any options for the mapping keys?

• Encryption over gigabit carrier ethernet

  I would like to encrypt traffic between two data centres. Communication between the sites is provided as a standard provider bridge (s-vlan/802.1ad), so that our local vlan tags (c-vlan/802.1q) are preserved on the trunk. The communication traverse several layer 2 hops in the provider network. Border switches on both sides are Catalyst 3750-X with the MACSec service module, but I assume MACSec is out of the question, as I don't see any way to ensure L2 equality between the switches over a trunk, although it may be possible over a provider bridge. MPLS (using EoMPLS) would certainly allow this option, but is not available in this case. Either way, equipment can always be replaced to accommodate technology and topology choices. How do I go about finding viable technology options that can provide layer 2 point-to-point encryption over ethernet carrier networks?

• Recovering an old website

  I have a client with an old website that somebody setup for him long ago. The guy who set it up is unreachable, so how do we go about trying to take it over? A WHOIS lookup got us some contact information, but I don't have great hopes for that (it hasn't been update in quite some time). The nameservers are ns1.theplanet.com and ns2.theplanet.com, and we will try calling them, but I don't expect we'll be able to get much from them. What are our options? Is there a way I can discover the registrar so we can try contacting them as well? EDIT: It would be sufficient if we could get control of the domain name or put in some sort of redirect to the new site. Either hosting was prepaid for quite some time, or someone else is still paying for it, so we don't care about that.

• How can I generate a list of appendices with LaTeX, seperate from table of contents (toc)

  LaTeX' appendix environment formats sections differently and uses a different enumeration in the table of contents: \begin{appendix} \section{superuser} \dots{} .... Shows up as       A       superuser            11 in the \tableofcontents. Unfortunately, I have to use a different style: the appendix is not to show up in the table of contents, but in a seperate listing right before the appendix. I see the following options to solve this: suppress output in tableofcontents and somehow recreate the part on a different page generate a custom listing of specified / the following section manually create a list with the same formatting of the tableofcontents I use scrartcl as document class. PS: appedix / appendices is not a tag yet

  I'm running the Xubuntu 12.10 on a Lenovo T520 laptop. If I plug a FAT formatted usb stick, it's mounted automatically, but if I plug in a NTFS formatted one, I have to mount it manually. How to make NTFS usb sticks to mount automatically when plugged? • Windows 8 stuck installing update

  I just restarted my laptop to finish installing a Windows update and now it is stuck on please wait. I have tried a system restore but there is only one restore point in the list and it does not work for some reason... I also tried to do a refresh but it asks me for media. I plug in the usb I used to install windows 8 a while and go and says that the media failed to load. I'm kind of stuck on options now. I can't boot and I can't restore and it seems I cant format either! Is there anything anything else I can do to get things going?! I'm running Windows 8 on a dell xps 14 ultrabook. Win 8 is installed on an msata drive and booting using EFi.

  I'm teaching myself 3D maths and in the process building my own rudimentary engine (of sorts). I was wondering what would be the best way to structure my matrix class. There are a few options: Separate member variables: struct Mat4 { float m11, m12, m13, m14, m21, m22, m23, m24, m31, m32, m33, m34, m41, m42, m43, m44; // methods } A multi-dimensional array: struct Mat4 { float[4][4] m; // methods } An array of vectors struct Mat4 { Vec4[4] m; // methods } I'm guessing there would be positives and negatives to each. From 3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development, 2nd Edition p.155: Matrices use 1-based indices, so the first row and column are numbered 1. For example, a12 (read “a one two,” not “a twelve”) is the element in the first row, second column. Notice that this is different from programming languages such as C++ and Java, which use 0-based array indices. A matrix does not have a column 0 or row 0. This difference in indexing can cause some confusion if matrices are stored using an actual array data type. For this reason, it’s common for classes that store small, fixed size matrices of the type used for geometric purposes to give each element its own named member variable, such as float a11, instead of using the language’s native array support with something like float elem[3][3]. So that's one vote for method one. Is this really the accepted way to do things? It seems rather unwieldy if the only benefit would be sticking with the conventional math notation.
