  I have a SQL Server 2005 SQL Reporting Services implementation. It seems that the only way to actually access the reports is for the users to use Internet Explorer. The web page uses an ActiveX control to do its printing (and probably other functions as well). Does SSRS have a different way to access its functionality via the web browser? Like maybe Java or HTML based? If so, how do I actually turn it on? The reason I am asking is because the security is being tightened and ActiveX controls will be banished, thus the users won't be able to print.

  Hi I've just installed SQL 2005 and Database Engine is ok, however I can't access it for nothing. When I go to http://localhost/reports I get this prompt for a username and password and it fails with 401.1. When I tried to disable kerberos on the virtual directories, nothing changed. I've tried changing the auth to anonymous and get: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. When I access from another machine, I get the prompt only once and get this error. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. Can't access this with IE or SSMS 2005. If I try to access with Management Studio i get this error: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.   I have an external SMTP provider: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk I am trying to send SQL Server Reporting Services emails via this on an Windows 2012 Azure VM. It is configured sufficiently correctly for emails to be generated, but I've not configured something or mis-configured something as the emails then stay in the queue. Setup details Configured SMTP Virtual Server General: IP Address: Fixed value Access: Access Control: Authentication: ticked Anonymous access Access: Connection Control: All except the list below (which is empty) Access: relay restrictions: Only the list below (which contains 127.0.0.1), ticked 'allow all..' option Delivery: Outbound Security...:Basic Authentication with username and password completed, ticked TLS encryption Delivery: Outbound connections...:TCP port=587 Delivery: Advanced: FQDN=ServerName, smarthost=auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk I then set the following SSRS rsreportserver.config values: <SMTPServer>100.92.192.3</SMTPServer> <SendUsing>2</SendUsing> <SMTPServerPickupDirectory> c:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup </SMTPServerPickupDirectory> <From>[email protected]</From> Tried so far 1) turning the smtp service off and on again (just in case) 2) run SMTPDiag with no errors (also no emails) 3) tried turning off the firewall for the ports (and more generally to see if it made a difference) 4) tried generation from powershell which resulted with message in queue 5) added 25 and 857 as endpoint 6) perused the event log and found some warnings that appear to be about the recipient Message delivery to the remote domain 'gmail.com' failed for the following reason: Unable to bind to the destination server in DNS. Message delivery to the host '212.227.15.179' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'gmail.com' for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt. 7) tried pinging but this appears to be blocked on azure 8) tried more powershell sending on different domains variants (localhost, boxname, internal ip used in smtp properties, 127.0.0.1) - none resulting in success 9) tried adding a remote domain - no change Could anyone recommend what step 10 should be in fixing this issue please?

Basically I have defined Parameters!RP_cll_typ_l1 as multivalued into my subreport as per ssrs multivalued parameter passing method. The value is going on sub report as '1,2,3,4' (not understandable by data set) It should be like as '1’,’2’,’3’,’4' or 1,2,3,4 How can I resolve this please help if any have solution?   I am new to SSRS (2005) and am creating my first report. I need to create a group-based running value but is sorted or some other field. For example, from the data below |Employee| Day |Hours|Salary| |E1 | 1.1 | 5 | 5 | |E2 | 1.2 | 6 | 6 | |E3 | 1.3 | 7 | 7 | |E2 | 2.1 | 6 | 12 | |E1 | 2.2 | 5 | 10 | |E3 | 2.3 | 7 | 14 | |E3 | 3.1 | 7 | 21 | |E2 | 3.2 | 6 | 18 | I am calculating the salary to be a running value on hours grouped by employee, which works fine. The problem is I want the report to be sorted on the Day column. If I use the Day as a sorting criteria in the employee group, the report is grouped on the employee, but within the group, the data is sorted on the Day column. Is there a way to build the report and then finally sort the report on the day column ? Please let me know in case I am unclear. Thanks a lot! Siva.

  I have recently installed SQL Server 2012 Developer on my laptop. I created a simple SSRS report using AdventureWorks201. The report builds fine but will not deploy. I get the error "The specified report server URL http:/localhost/Reports_MSSQLSERVER2012 could not be found" I am able to browse to said URL without issue. I can even upload the report and run it just fine. I am using an administrator account in both cases (on the URL and within SSDT). Is there some reason why SSDT cannot see the URL I am specifying?

Our client only wants to use his existing Windows Server 2003 web servers. • How to enabled Printer Sharing on Web Server 2008?

  I am installing Web Server 2008 for my home network. I have 2 USB printers that I am connecting to this machine and want to share these printers so that my other machines can print to these 2 USB printers. (I previously had Win Server 2003 on this machine and was able to share both printers fine.) File and Printer sharing Inbound Role for my Private network is enabled, when I go into Network and Sharing Center and try to turn ON Printer Sharing, it never sticks. It always stays on OFF. I go to my installed printers and try to Share them and get the following error message: Printer Settings could not be saved. Remote connections to the Print Spooler are blocked by a policy set on your machine. I have not been able to find a policy on my machine that is preventing this. I have searched a lot over the past few days and most of the results say what I have done should work and there are also a number of search results that say Printer Sharing on Web Server 2008 is not allowed and you have to hack it. Has anyone installed Web Server 2008 and shared printers before? If so, what are the detailed steps you took to get this to work?

• MTD Expression on a single column - SSRS

  I need a bit of help here. I have been unable to create an 'Month To Date' expression to a single column on SSRS. I tested the following expression from a similar question in the forum, but it gives me a squiggly line below the variable 'd' =IIF(Fields!CreateDate.Value >= DateAdd(d,-7,Today()), Sum(Fields!Sales.Value), 0) If I run it, of course I got an error telling me that 'd' is not declared. ;) I changed it to ... DateAdd("d",-7,Today()), Sum(Fields!Sales.Value) ... following the example and the squiggly goes below the brackets of "today()" and needless to say it...but still not working. I tried a Dateadd(mm..Datediff ... and still nothing. My report has the following columns: Country | CustomerName | Sales | InvNotProcessed | Open Order | Orders | TotalbyCust What I need is to show the new MTD sales only in the column named "Sales" while the other three shows the rest of the query, which should be open as some orders may take quite a while to manufacture and invoice. the last column sums the totals of all other columns. I am doing a small charting application to track download statistics, and want to put the data into a pie chart. • PerformancePoint dashboard permissions problem in MOSS

  I have a PerformancePoint dashboard running in MOSS 2007 portal. The dashboard consists of one SSRS 2005 report, running in SharePoint Integrated mode. NT Authority\Authenticated Users have read permissions to the report library containing the SSRS report, the dashboard, and the report library containing the dashboard. Users that attempt to access the dashboard receive the following error message: The permissions granted to user 'DOMAIN\firstname.lastname' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Users that then click on the direct link to the report in MOSS will see the report with no problem. Subsequent visits to the dashboard show the report with no problem. The report is using a data source that is located one folder up from the report location. The report has been updated to point to the correct shared data source after deployment. Both the report and the data source have been published. The data source is using stored credentials, with a domain service account that has been set to Use as Windows credentials. This service account is serving other reports in other areas with no problem. Edit: Ok, I've gotten a lot more information on this problem. The request is never actually being made to the data source. The user comes in to the dashboard and requests a report for the first time using their kerberos token identifying themselves. The report looks in the Report Server database and finds that they are not listed in the users table and generates this rsAccessDenied error. Once they view the report directly their name is in this table and they never have the problem again. Unfortunately, removing the user from the Users table in the RS database doesn't actually cause this error to happen again. Everything I've read says that when you run a Report Server in MOSS integrated mode all your permissions are handled at the MOSS report library level, and all Auth users have permissions to the report library, as stated earlier. Any ideas?

• How to deploy RSWebParts.cab manually?

  I'm using the SSRS 2005 Web parts to display my reports in a MOSS 2007 SP1 Portal. I have successfully installed the Web parts in my development, testing, and UAT servers using the following command: stsadm -o addwppack -filename path/to/RSWebParts.cab. But when I tried running the same command in the production server, it will give me the following error: This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be deployed to a particular Web application. I know I usually will get this kind of error message when I tried to deploy my custom solutions having no Web application resources (such as web.config entries) to a specific Web application. But this is not my custom solution, it is an out-of-the-box SSRS Web part and it does have resources scoped to a Web application. I tried to even use different combination of the command by providing the -url, -globalinstall, and -force switches but it still give the same error. The configuration of the 4 servers are exactly the same, both from software and hardware perspectives. All other features are working properly on the production server. I even tried to extract the cab file manually to the bin folder of my Web application, then modify the Web.config manually to include the SafeControl element (copied from the manifest.xml inside the cab file). But it gave me an error saying it couldn't find the resources file. Even though, I extracted the whole file, including the resource files in the bin folder. Is there anyone who can help me resolve the problem? Thanks a lot.

• How to archive data from a table to a local or remote database in SQL 2005 and SQL 2008

  Often you have the need to archive data from a table. This leads to a number of challenges 1. How can you do it without impacting users 2. How can I make it transactionally consistent, i.e. the data I put in the archive is the data I remove from the main table 3. How can I get it to perform well Points 1 is very much tied to point 3. If it doesn't perform well then the delete of data is going to cause lots of locks and thus potentially blocking. For points 1 and 3 refer to my previous posts DELETE-TOP-x-rows-avoiding-a-table-scan and UPDATE-and-DELETE-TOP-and-ORDER-BY---Part2. In essence you need to be removing small chunks of data from your table and you want to do that avoiding a table scan. So that deals with the delete approach but archiving is about inserting that data somewhere else. Well in SQL 2008 they introduced a new feature INSERT over DML (Data Manipulation Language, i.e. SQL statements that change data), or composable DML. The ability to nest DML statements within themselves, so you can past the results of an insert to an update to a merge. I've mentioned this before here SQL-Server-2008---MERGE-and-optimistic-concurrency. This feature is currently limited to being able to consume the results of a DML statement in an INSERT statement. There are many restrictions which you can find here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177564.aspx look for the section "Inserting Data Returned From an OUTPUT Clause Into a Table" Even with the restrictions what we can do is consume the OUTPUT from a DELETE and INSERT the results into a table in another database. Note that in BOL it refers to not being able to use a remote table, remote means a table on another SQL instance. To show this working use this SQL to setup two databases foo and fooArchive create database foo go --create the source table fred in database foo select * into foo..fred from sys.objects go create database fooArchive go if object_id('fredarchive',DB_ID('fooArchive')) is null begin     select getdate() ArchiveDate,* into fooArchive..FredArchive from sys.objects where 1=2       end go And then we can use this simple statement to archive the data insert into fooArchive..FredArchive select getdate(),d.* from (delete top (1)         from foo..Fred         output deleted.*) d         go In this statement the delete can be any delete statement you wish so if you are deleting by ids or a range of values then you can do that. Refer to the DELETE-TOP-x-rows-avoiding-a-table-scan post to ensure that your delete is going to perform. The last thing you want to do is to perform 100 deletes each with 5000 records for each of those deletes to do a table scan. For a solution that works for SQL2005 or if you want to archive to a different server then you can use linked servers or SSIS. This example shows how to do it with linked servers.
