• A strange problem using jquery in IE6.

  I am using jquery load method to update divs , it works great until I test my code under IE6. The problem is : under IE6 , when I click a button to trigger a load method , the page is remaining unchanged until I move my cursor, that means if I click my mouse and keep my hand away from the mouse , the page is unchanged , if I move the mouse , the page is updated. This problem is only occurred under IE6 . IE7 , IE8, Firefox all have no problem. Have you guys ever encountered this kind of problem ?

  Hi, I'm trying to query a set of buldings listed on a table, these buildings are linked with tags. I'm able to do it, but my problem is how limit the number of tags to see: table buildings id building_name style 1 Pompidou bla 2 Alcatraz bla 3 etc. etc. table tags // they can be 50 or more per building id tag_name 1 minimal 2 gothic 3 classical 4 modern 5 etc. table buildings_tags id building_id tag_id I though to do something like this to retrieve the list, but this isn't compplete: SELECT DISTINCT(tag), bulding_name FROM buldings INNER JOIN buildings_tags ON buildings.id = buildings_tags.building_id INNER JOIN tags ON tags.id = buildings_tags.tag_id LIMIT 0, 20 // result building tag Pompidou great Pompidou france Pompidou paris Pompidou industrial Pompidou renzo piano <= How to stop at the 5th result? • Why does the jQuery on this page work for Internet Explorer 8, but nothing else?

  I made a web page that uses jQuery: http://benmccormack.com/demo/MichaelMassPsalm/Psalm16Mode5.html When you change the selection in the combo box from Higher Key to Lower Key, all of the music images are supposed to change their source to be images that represent the lower key signature. This works great in IE8, but it won't work in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome. Why not? • Regex - Modifying strings except in specified enclosures - PHP

  I have found similar answers to my current needs on SO, however I am still trying to grasp modifying strings based on a rule, except in certain enclosures within those strings. Example of what Im trying to accomplish now: preg_replace("/\s*,\s*/", ",", $text) I found the above in many places. It will remove spaces before and after all commas in a string. That works great. However, if I want to exclude modifying commas found within " ", I am not sure how that rule has to be modified. Any help? Thanks! EDIT: I want to clarify my question: I would like all whitespace before and after the commas in the following sentence removed, except commas found in double or single quotes: a, b , c "d, e f g , " , h i j ,k lm,nop Expected result: a,b,c "d, e f g , ",h i j,k lm,nop

• What's the best way to deal with limitations in Google AJAX Language API?

  I'm mostly interested in translation, but I'm sure someone else is looking for info on the other features of the language API (namely transliteration and virtual keyboard). I see alot of pages on the web about the limitations of the Language API, but I don't see anything about this in the official docs. Links to where this is described in the official docs would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm guessing that the best solution will involve breaking up longer texts and translating each piece. Does this violate Google's term's of use? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of having a limit in the first place? Again, links to official documentation would be great.

• Custom Build Step Paths Between x86 and x64 in Visual Studio

  For reference, I'm using Visual Studio 2010. I have a custom build step defined as follows: if exist "$(TargetDir)"server.dll copy "$(TargetDir)"server.dll "c:\program files (x86)\myapp\server.dll" This works great on my desktop, which is running 64-bit Windows. However, when I build on my laptop, c:\Program Files (x86)\ doesn't exist because it's running 32-bit Windows. I'd like to put in something that will work between both editions of Windows, since the project files are under version control and it's a real pain to change the paths every time I work on my laptop. If this were a *nix environment I'd just create a symlink and be done with it. Any ideas?

  Hey guys, As a personal project, I'm looking to build a rudimentary DBMS. I've read the relevant sections in Elmasri & Navathe (5ed), but could use a more focused text. The rub is that I want to play with novel non-relational data models. While a lot of E&N was great- indexing implementation details in particular- the more advanced DBMS implementation was only targeted to a relational model. I could also use something a bit more practical and detail-oriented, with real-world recommendations. I'd like to defer staring at DBMS source for a while if I can. Any ideas?

  I'm migrating a ~15GB database from SQL Server 2005 to a new server running SQL Server 2008, and along with that I need to create all the new Maintenance Plans. I can take care of all the backup stuff, but the table maintenance baffles me some. Does anyone have any input on how often I should (or how often you do would suffice too) the following tasks? Check Database Integrity Rebuild Indexes Reorganize Indexes Update Statistics Shrink Database? Am I missing anything? Again if you can share how often you do these tasks that would be great...and/or share any general information about your approach to table maintenance that would be helpful. Lastly does it matter what order I run these tasks in (when setting up a job)?

• Working local and upload on save in Eclipse with Aptana

  Currently I am working in Dreamweaver for my web project. The way I work is open local files, and when I save the files are uploaded via FTP to my server. This works great because I have the same files local and on the server, and I don't have to move the files around a lot. Is this possible in eclipse with Aptana? I have tried working with RSE(remote system explorer), but then I only work with the remote files. I have also tried the normal Aptana FTP features, but there is no 'save on upload' feature. Does anyone have some recommendations for me?

  i have to design a form with an input inside it. i use background image on the input so it would look like a button. so every time somebody click it, then it would send $POST, a behavior i want to achieve. But the problem is about the outline around the form. The outline show when we click the form. It's minor, but it would be great to make the form (or input) lost it outline. i test it using Firefox 3.6 and flock. Both of them show the outline behavior that i want to avoid

• Full Width Divs using ScrollTo.js

  This is my first ever post. I am using the ScrollTo jQuery plugin and i have stumbled across a problem... I have 6 rows, each with 6 child divs , I would like each of these child divs to be full width. The plugin works great but I cannot seem to get the child div to be full width (then use ScrollTo to 'slide' to the next div, or to a div on the next row. ) Here is my code: http://jsfiddle.net/RZjrV/ Is it even possible?   Railroad is a great UML tool for Ruby on Rails. It can automatically generate class diagrams of models and controllers. For models, a railroad-generated class diagram shows attributes of each model and the associations between one model and another. A sample diagram can be found here. It is very useful for a developer to see attributes and associations of models. While attributes and associations reveal the inner states and relationships of models, methods specify their behaviours. They are all desirable in a class diagram. I would like railroad to generate a class diagram that also lists methods for models, which will help me to know what each model does. I know methods are displayed in a diagram that is generated for controllers, but I don't see such an option for a diagram of models. Does someone know how to do that with railroad? Or is that possible? Thanks!

Now, we have upgraded the forum to phpbb 3.0, but i can't get my bot to write to the forum anymore. I have looked for a solution, but now i am out of ideas. So it would have been great if anyone have a suggestion. i have btw used CURL and php to make this bot. Usage of bot: Users log in on an external website to report results of footballmatches they have played online. The bot will then automatically write a post to the forum. So basically i need to know what $_POST[] i need to send.

• Visual Studio web tests: Can a coded webtest be run through the Web Test Editor run view?

  Hello, Full disclosure, I'm new to Visual Studio Web Tests and coding for them. I've written a webtest; coded in VB; it runs great. Our QA engineer wants to use this script for performance testing; but he wants the nice GUI that comes when you build a WebTest with the VS WebTest Editor and run it. Is there a way to run a coded webtest through this view? He wants to be able to view each test as it runs to see which pages are having issues, but within the GUI he's used to. Alternatively, I know I could just code something that writes out to a log file; but before I go with that solution; I just wanted to see if this is possible. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

  Ok I've just ran into this and I was only supposed to be checking my emails however I've ended up watching this (and not far off subscribing to TekPub). http://tekpub.com/production/starter Now these app is a great starting point, but it raises one issue for me and the development process I've been shown to follow (rightly or wrongly). There is no conversion from the LinqToSql object when passing data to the view. Are there any negitives to this? The main one I can see is with validation, does this cause issues when using MVC's built in validation as this is somthing we use extensivly. Because we are using the built in objects generated by LinqToSql how would one go about adding validation, like [Required(ErrorMessage="Name is Required")] public string Name {get;set;} Interested to understand the benifits of this methodology and any negitives that, should we take it on, experiance through the development process.

• Use only some parts of Django?

  I like Django, but for a particular application I would like to use only parts of it, but I'm not familiar enough with how Django works on the inside, so maybe someone can point me into the right direction as to what I have to check out. Specifically, I want to use: The models and database abstraction The caching API, although I want to avoid database lookups by caching, not HTML generation, and since the caching framework in Django is intended for the latter, I'm not sure yet whether that's really appropriate. I would not use: Templating urlconfigs Or, more exactly, I'm neither using HTTP nor HTML. So basically, I have a different input / output chain than usual. Can this work? My personal killer feature in Django is the Object / database mapping that I can do with the models, so if there's another technology (doesn't have to be Python, I'm in the design phase and I'm pretty agnostic about languages and platforms) that gives me the same abilities, that would be great, too.

• Need post-it notes that don't fall off the whiteboard after a week.

  In my company, we plan our develpment work with scrum. We track progress using post-it stickies on a big whiteboard, and it works great. It is my understanding that's kind of standard. We are just one location, so we don't need or want to do this electronically. But to our (and the Q/A rep's) annoyance, the sticky notes begin to fall off the whiteboard after a week or two, or even sooner if you stick them on top of each other. I've experimented with extra tape on the stickies. That helped, but it also ruins the whiteboard. So I am looking for a pragmatic and preferably low-cost alternative. Are some post-it brands better than others? Or do you have another solution for a scrum board does not suffer from this?

• Javascript is called in IE and FF but not in Chrome, why?

  I have the following code below for a button on an aspx page. When it is clicked it should call a javascript that will print the text in that div. Everything works great in IE & Firefox but when it is tried in chrome it is as if the OnClientClick is not kicking off the javascript. I receive no errors and it works in IE and FF now. • Are all languages used within .net Equally performant?

  I know the "Sales pitch" answer is yes to this question, but is it technically true. The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is designed as an intermediate language based on Imperative Programming (IP), but this has obvious implications when dealing with Declarative Programming (DP). So how efficient is a language based on a different paradigm than the Imperative Style when implemented in the CLR? I also get the feeling that the step to DP would incur an extra level of abstraction that might not model at all performant, would this be a fair comment? I have done some simple tests using F# and it all looks great, but am I missing something if the programs get more complex?

• Counting consecutive items within MS SQL

  Got a problem with a query I'm trying to write. I have a table that lists people that have been sent an email. There is a bit column named Active which is set to true if they have responded. But I need to count the number of consecutive emails the person has been inactive since either their first email or last active email. For example, this basic table shows one person has been sent 9 emails. They have been active within two of the emails (3 & 5). So their inactive count would be 4 as we are counting from email number 6 onwards. PersonID(int) EmailID(int) Active(bit) 1 1 0 1 2 0 1 3 1 1 4 0 1 5 1 1 6 0 1 7 0 1 8 0 1 9 0 Any pointers or help would be great. Regards Greg

• where do I submit the ipad apps?

  I read Apple is allowing developers to submit iPad apps for the great opening of the ipad store, but I cannot find anything in my account that says that or allows sending the apps. Another thing is: in order for an app to be accepted you have to sign it with your own certificate but to do that you have to select the device on Xcode. As far as I know, Xcode do not signs with certificates applications that run on the simulator. Beyond that, any try to build a distribution package on Xcode shows messages like "you should disable armv6", and others. So, I ask. Is this news true? If yes, how to I manage to have the app ready for iPad and ready for submission? thanks.
