[BEGINNER] Javascript Pop Ups

Hey All, My boss has asked for a page that will not change to have two timed pop ups load. I have found code and edited it to what I had thought it should do, but it is only loading the last onLoad event. I am a designer and I have helped with making webpages, but Javascript is so far outside of what I can understand. I have already learned how to use the single pop up and spent a whiiile learning the timeouts, but I cannot seem to get it to work with multiple popup functions. How do you place an Excel Sheet/Workbook onto a C# .NET Winform?

I am trying to create a stand alone application in Visual Studio 2008 C# .Net that will house Excel Workbooks (2007). I am using Office.Interop in order to create the Excel application and I open the workbooks via Workbooks.Open(...). The Interop does not provide any functionality to "move" the workbooks onto a form so I turned to P/Invoke Win32 library. I am able to move the entire excel application onto a WinForm with great success: // pseudo code to give you the idea excel = new Excel.ApplicationClass(); SetParent(excel.Hwnd, form.handle); This allows me to customize the form and control user input. All right click commands and formula editing work properly. Now, the issue I run into is when I want to open two workbooks in two separate forms. I do this by creating two excel application classes and placing each of those in their own form. When I try to reference one workbook to another workbook via =[Book2]Sheet1!A1, for example, it does not update. This is expected as each application is running under its own thread/process. Here are the alternatives I have tried. If you have any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.(OLE is not an option. VSTO must be available) Create a single application class and move the workbook window into my form. Results: The window moves into my form and displays correctly, however, no right click or left click works on the form and it never gains focus. (I have tried to manually set focus and it does not work either). My guess is, by moving the window outside of the XLDESK application (viewable in Spy++ for Excel Application), the workbook application (EXCEL7) does not receive the correct window messages to gain focus and to behave properly. This leads me to: Move the XLDESK window handle into my form. Results: This allows the workbook to be click-able again but also has an undesired result of moving all child windows into the same form. Create a main excel application that creates workbooks. Create a new excel application for each new window. Move the workbook under the new excel application XLDESK window. Results: This also has the same effect of the 1st option. Unable to click in the workbook. This must mean that the thread that created the workbook is also responsible for the events. Create a windows hook that watches the WndProc procedure. Results: No events watched. The targeted thread must export the hook proc in a DLL export call. Excel does not do this and thus you cannot inject into it's DLL (unless someone can prove me wrong). I am able to watch all threads within my own process but not from an outside process. Excel is created as a separate process. Subclass NativeWindow. Results: Same as #4. After I move the window into my form, all events are captured up until the mouse is directly over the excel sheet making the sheet seem unclickable. One idea I haven't tried yet is just to continually save the excel sheet as the user edits it. This should update all references but I would feel this would cause poor system performance. There will be numerous chart references as well and I'm not sure if this solution would cause problems further down the road. I think in the end, all the workbooks need to be created by the same Excel Application and then moved to get the desired results but I can't seem to find the correct way to move the windows without disabling the user input in the process. Any suggestions?

why the global variable value is not being set?

I can't figure out why my global variable workRegionCode is not set properly. In function getWorkRegion(), after getting ajax callback, it attempt to set workRegionCode global variable. (inside of function setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode() ). WPF Blurry Images - Bitmap Class

I am using the following sample at http://blogs.msdn.com/dwayneneed/archive/2007/10/05/blurry-bitmaps.aspx within VB.NET. The code is shown below. I am having a problem when my application loads the CPU is pegging 50-70%. I have determined that the problem is with the Bitmap class. The OnLayoutUpdated() method is calling the InvalidateVisual() continously. This is because some points are not returning as equal but rather, Point(0.0,-0.5) Can anyone see any bugs within this code or know a better implmentation for pixel snapping a Bitmap image so it is not blurry? p.s. Scan a Windows PC for Viruses from a Ubuntu Live CD

Getting a virus is bad. Getting a virus that causes your computer to crash when you reboot is even worse. We’ll show you how to clean viruses from your computer even if you can’t boot into Windows by using a virus scanner in a Ubuntu Live CD. There are a number of virus scanners available for Ubuntu, but we’ve found that avast! is the best choice, with great detection rates and usability. Unfortunately, avast! does not have a proper 64-bit version, and forcing the install does not work properly. If you want to use avast! to scan for viruses, then ensure that you have a 32-bit Ubuntu Live CD. If you currently have a 64-bit Ubuntu Live CD on a bootable flash drive, it does not take long to wipe your flash drive and go through our guide again and select normal (32-bit) Ubuntu 9.10 instead of the x64 edition. For the purposes of fixing your Windows installation, the 64-bit Live CD will not provide any benefits. Once Ubuntu 9.10 boots up, open up Firefox by clicking on its icon in the top panel. Navigate to http://www.avast.com/linux-home-edition. Click on the Download tab, and then click on the link to download the DEB package. Save it to the default location. While avast! is downloading, click on the link to the registration form on the download page. Fill in the registration form if you do not already have a trial license for avast!. By the time you’ve filled out the registration form, avast! will hopefully be finished downloading. Open a terminal window by clicking on Applications in the top-left corner of the screen, then expanding the Accessories menu and clicking on Terminal. In the terminal window, type in the following commands, pressing enter after each line. cd Downloadssudo dpkg –i avast* This will install avast! on the live Ubuntu environment. To ensure that you can use the latest virus database, while still in the terminal window, type in the following command: sudo sysctl –w kernel.shmmax=128000000 Now we’re ready to open avast!. Click on Applications on the top-left corner of the screen, expand the Accessories folder, and click on the new avast! Antivirus item. You will first be greeted with a window that asks for your license key. Hopefully you’ve received it in your email by now; open the email that avast! sends you, copy the license key, and paste it in the Registration window. avast! Antivirus will open. You’ll notice that the virus database is outdated. Click on the Update database button and avast! will start downloading the latest virus database. To scan your Windows hard drive, you will need to “mount” it. While the virus database is downloading, click on Places on the top-left of your screen, and click on your Windows hard drive, if you can tell which one it is by its size. If you can’t tell which is the correct hard drive, then click on Computer and check out each hard drive until you find the right one. When you find it, make a note of the drive’s label, which appears in the menu bar of the file browser. Also note that your hard drive will now appear on your desktop. By now, your virus database should be updated. At the time this article was written, the most recent version was 100404-0. In the main avast! window, click on the radio button next to Selected folders and then click on the “+” button to the right of the list box. It will open up a dialog box to browse to a location. To find your Windows hard drive, click on the “>” next to the computer icon. In the expanded list, find the folder labelled “media” and click on the “>” next to it to expand it. In this list, you should be able to find the label that corresponds to your Windows hard drive. If you want to scan a certain folder, then you can go further into this hierarchy and select that folder. However, we will scan the entire hard drive, so we’ll just press OK. Click on Start scan and avast! will start scanning your hard drive. If a virus is found, you’ll be prompted to select an action. If you know that the file is a virus, then you can Delete it, but there is the possibility of false positives, so you can also choose Move to chest to quarantine it. When avast! is done scanning, it will summarize what it found on your hard drive. You can take different actions on those files at this time by right-clicking on them and selecting the appropriate action. When you’re done, click Close. Your Windows PC is now free of viruses, in the eyes of avast!. Reboot your computer and with any luck it will now boot up! Alternatives to avast! If avast! and a liberal amount of Googling doesn’t fix your problem, it’s possible that a different virus scanner will fix your obscure issue. Recover Deleted Files on an NTFS Hard Drive from a Ubuntu Live CD

Accidentally deleting a file is a terrible feeling. Not being able to boot into Windows and undelete that file makes that even worse. Fortunately, you can recover deleted files on NTFS hard drives from an Ubuntu Live CD. To show this process, we created four files on the desktop of a Windows XP machine, and then deleted them. We then booted up the same machine with the bootable Ubuntu 9.10 USB Flash Drive that we created last week. Once Ubuntu 9.10 boots up, open a terminal by clicking Applications in the top left of the screen, and then selecting Accessories > Terminal. To undelete our files, we first need to identify the hard drive that we want to undelete from. In the terminal window, type in: sudo fdisk –l and press enter. What you’re looking for is a line that ends with HPSF/NTFS (under the heading System). In our case, the device is “/dev/sda1”. This may be slightly different for you, but it will still begin with /dev/. Note this device name. If you have more than one hard drive partition formatted as NTFS, then you may be able to identify the correct partition by the size. If you look at the second line of text in the screenshot above, it reads “Disk /dev/sda: 136.4 GB, …” This means that the hard drive that Ubuntu has named /dev/sda is 136.4 GB large. If your hard drives are of different size, then this information can help you track down the right device name to use. Alternatively, you can just try them all, though this can be time consuming for large hard drives. Now that you know the name Ubuntu has assigned to your hard drive, we’ll scan it to see what files we can uncover. In the terminal window, type: sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> and hit enter. In our case, the command is: sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 The names of files that can recovered show up in the far right column. The percentage in the third column tells us how much of that file can be recovered. Three of the four files that we originally deleted are showing up in this list, even though we shut down the computer right after deleting the four files – so even in ideal cases, your files may not be recoverable. Nevertheless, we have three files that we can recover – two JPGs and an MPG. Note: ntfsundelete is immediately available in the Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD. If you are in a different version of Ubuntu, or for some other reason get an error when trying to use ntfsundelete, you can install it by entering “sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs” in a terminal window. To quickly recover the two JPGs, we will use the * wildcard to recover all of the files that end with .jpg. In the terminal window, enter sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> –u –m *.jpg which is, in our case, sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 –u –m *.jpg The two files are recovered from the NTFS hard drive and saved in the current working directory of the terminal. By default, this is the home directory of the current user, though we are working in the Desktop folder. Note that the ntfsundelete program does not make any changes to the original NTFS hard drive. If you want to take those files and put them back in the NTFS hard drive, you will have to move them there after they are undeleted with ntfsundelete. Of course, you can also put them on your flash drive or open Firefox and email them to yourself – the sky’s the limit! We have one more file to undelete – our MPG. Note the first column on the far left. It contains a number, its Inode. Think of this as the file’s unique identifier. Note this number. To undelete a file by its Inode, enter the following in the terminal: sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> –u –i <Inode> In our case, this is: sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 –u –i 14159 This recovers the file, along with an identifier that we don’t really care about. All three of our recoverable files are now recovered. However, Ubuntu lets us know visually that we can’t use these files yet. That’s because the ntfsundelete program saves the files as the “root” user, not the “ubuntu” user. We can verify this by typing the following in our terminal window: ls –l We want these three files to be owned by ubuntu, not root. To do this, enter the following in the terminal window: sudo chown ubuntu <Files> If the current folder has other files in it, you may not want to change their owner to ubuntu. However, in our case, we only have these three files in this folder, so we will use the * wildcard to change the owner of all three files. sudo chown ubuntu * The files now look normal, and we can do whatever we want with them. Hopefully you won’t need to use this tip, but if you do, ntfsundelete is a nice command-line utility. It doesn’t have a fancy GUI like many of the similar Windows programs, but it is a powerful tool that can recover your files quickly. Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. e-interview: SunSpace to WebCenter migration

I had the pleasure to do an e-interview with Ana Neves around the SunSpace to WebCenter migration project. Below is the english version of the interview. Enjoy Peter, you joined Oracle in 2009 through the acquisition of Sun. Becoming a part of Oracle meant many changes. The internal collaboration platform was one of them, as per a post you wrote back in 2011. Sun had SunSpace. How would you describe SunSpace? SunSpace was the internal Community and Social Collaboration platform for the Sun's Global Sales and Services Organization. SunSpace served around 600 communities with a main focus around technology, products and services. SunSpace was a big success. Within 3 months of its launch SunSpace had over 20,000 users and it won the Atlassian "Not just another wiki" Award for the best use of Confluence (https://blogs.oracle.com/peterreiser/entry/goodbye_sunspace_hello_webcenter). What made SunSpace so special? 1. People centric versus Web centric The main concept of SunSpace put the person in the middle of everything. All relevant information, resources etc. where dynamically pushed to a person's myProfile ( Facebook like interface) based on the person's interest and needs. 2. Ease to use SunSpace was really easy to use. We spent a lot of time on social interaction design to optimize the user experience. Also we integrated some sophisticated technology to hide complexity from the user. As example - when a user added a document to SunSpace - we analyzed the content of the document and suggested related metadata and tags to the user based on a sophisticated algorithm which was integrated with the corporate taxonomy. Based on this metadata the document was automatically shared with the relevant communities. 3. Easy to find One of the main use cases for SunSpace was that a user could quickly find the content and information they needed for their job. The search implementation was based on: optimized search engine algorithm using social value based ranking enhancements community facilitated search optimization faceted search which recommended highly relevant content like products, communities and experts 4. Social Adoption - How to build vibrant communities You can deploy the coolest social technology but what if the users are not using it? To drive user adoption we implemented two complementary models: 4.1 Community Methodology We developed a set of best practices on how to create, run and sustain communities including: community structure and types (e.g. Community of Practice, Community of Interest etc.) & tips and tricks on how to build a "vibrant " communities, Community Health check etc. These best practices where constantly tuned and updated by the community of community drivers. 4.2. Social Value System To drive user adoption there is ONE key question you have to answer for each individual user: What's In It For Me (WIIFM) We developed a Social Value System called Community Equity which measures the social value flow between People, Content and Metadata. Based on this technology we added "Gamfication" techniques (although at that time this term did not exist ) to SunSpace to honor people for the active contribution and participation. As example: All social credentials a user earned trough active community participation where dynamically displayed on her/his myProfile. How would you describe WebCenter? Oracle WebCenter (@oraclewebcenter) is the Oracle's user engagement platform for social business. It helps people work together more efficiently through contextual collaboration tools that optimize connections between people, information, and applications and ensures users have access to the right information in the context of the business process in which they are engaged. Oracle WebCenter can help your organization deliver contextual and targeted Web experiences to users and enable employees to access information and applications through intuitive portals, composite applications, and mash-ups. How does it compare to SunSpace in terms of functionality? Before I answer this question, I would like to point out some limitation we started to see with the current SunSpace implementation. Due to the massive growth of the user population (>20,000 users), we experienced performance and scalability challenges with the current technology. Also at the time - Sun Internal Communications and SunIT planned to replace the entire Sun Intranet with SunSpace. We kicked-off a project to evaluate the enterprise level technology which eventually would replace the good old static Intranet. And then Oracle acquired Sun. We already had defined the functional requirements for the Intranet replacement with a Social Enterprise Stack and we just needed to evaluate the functional requirements against WebCenter Below are the summary of this evaluation MyProfile SunSpace WebCenter How WebCenter Works Home MyProfile: to access, click on your name at the top of any WebCenter page Your name, title, and reporting line are displayed. The entire Intranet serving around 100,000 users is running on WebCenter Content. For professional communities we use WebCenter Portal and Spaces. Currently we have around 6,000 community spaces with around 40,000 members. Does Oracle have any metrics to assess usage and impact of WebCenter? Can you give us some examples? Sure - we have a lot of metrics For the Intranet we use traditional metrics like pageviews, monthly unique visitors and unique visits. For Communities we use the WebCenter Portal/Spaces analytics service which gives as a wealth of data. The key metrics we track are: Space traffic (PageViews, Unique Users) Wiki,Documents (views, downloads etc.) Forum (users, views, posts etc.) Registered members over time Depending on the community we can filter/segment the metrics by User Properties e.g. Country, Organization, Job Role etc. What are you doing to improve usage and impact? 1. We integrating the WebCenter social services/fabric into all main business applications. As example The Fusion CRM deployment is seamless integrated with Oracle Social Network (OSN) and all conversation around an opportunity or customer engagement is done in OSN (see youtube video). 2. We drive Social Best Practice trough a program called "Social Networking & Business Collaboration (SNBC) program" You worked both with WebCenter and SunSpace. Knowing what you know today, if you had the chance to choose between the two, which one would you choose? Why? That's a tricky question In the early days of the Social Enterprise implementation (we started SunSpace in 2006), we needed an agile and easy to deploy technology to keep up with the users requirements. Sometimes we pushed two releases per day and we were in a permanent perpetual beta mode - SunSpace was perfect for that. After the social implementation matured over time - community generated content became business critical and we saw a change in the requirements from agile to stability, scalability and reliability of the infrastructure. WebCenter is the right choice for such an enterprise-level deployment. You are a WebCenter Evangelist at Oracle. What do you do as part of that role? Our role is to help position Oracle as one of the key thought leaders and solutions provider for Social Business. In addition we drive social innovation trough our Oracle Appslab team. Is that a full time role? Yes How many other Evangelists are there in Oracle? We are currently 5 people in the WebCenter evangelist team (@webcentervoices): Christian Finn (@cfinn) leads the team - Christian came from the Microsoft Sharepoint product management team and is a recognized expert in Social Business and Enterprise Collaboration. It brings together the most complete portfolio of portal, web experience management, content, social and collaboration technologies into a single product suite and is the product foundation of the Oracle Knowledge Management strategy. I am aware Oracle also uses Beehive internally. How would you describe Beehive? Oracle Beehive provides an integrated set of communication and collaboration services built on a single scalable, secure, enterprise-class platform Beehive is internally used for enterprise wide mail, calendar and real collaboration (Web conferencing) services. Are Beehive and WebCenter connected? Historically Beehive and WebCenter Portal & Content had some overlap in functionally. (Hey - if a company has an acquisition strategy to strengthen its product offering and accelerate innovation, it's pretty normal that functional overlap exists :- )) A key objective of the WebCenter strategy is to combine all social and collaboration offerings under the WebCenter product family. That means that certain Beehive components will be integrated into the overall WebCenter product offering. Are there any other internal collaboration tools at Oracle? Which ones There here are two other main social tools which are widely used at Oracle Oracle Connect was the first social tool the Oracle AppsLab team created in 2007 - see (Jake's blog post for details). It is still extensively used. ... and as a former Sun guy I like this quote from the blog post: "Traffic to Connect peaked right after the Sun merger in 2010, when it served several hundred thousand pageviews each month; since then, traffic has subsided, but still averages tens of thousands of pageviews to several thousand users each month." Oratweet - Oracle internal microblogging platform has been used since June 2008 and it is still growing. It's entirely written in Oracle Application Express (APEX) which is a rapid web application development tool for the Oracle database. Wanna try it out? Here you can download the code. Hello all, I'm trying to parse some returned html to look for currently playing movies. The pattern I'm trying to match looks like: <span dir=ltr>Clash of the Titans</span> Of which there are several in the returned html. (the html is huge, I've posted a sample at the bottom) I'm trying get an array of the movie titles with the following command: titles = listings_html.split(/(<span dir=ltr>).*(<\/span>)/) But I'm not getting the results I'm expecting. Can anyone see a problem with my approach or regex? Remote Desktop Connection Only Works One Way

I can't get my desktop to connect to my laptop through remote desktop connection. Unfortunately I can only get my laptop to connect to my desktop (quite useless). Desktop: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit SP1 Windows firewall is off for all 3 profiles (domain / private / public) Remote desktop connection is installed and set to allow all connections Under running services is: Running Remote Desktop Configuration Running Remote Desktop Services Running Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector Running Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Stopped Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Stopped Remote Access Connection Manager Stopped Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator Stopped Remote Registry Stopped Routing and Remote Access Stopped Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) Laptop: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1 Windows firewall is off for all3 profiles (domain / private / public) Remote desktop connection is installed and set to 'Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer' Under running services is: Running Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Stopped Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Stopped Remote Access Connection Manager Stopped Remote Desktop Configuration Stopped Remote Desktop Services Stopped Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator Stopped Remote Registry Stopped Routing and Remote Access Stopped Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) It should be noted that the Laptop that I'm trying to connect to is an Alienware and might be running some wonky Dell settings. Also, the settings are slightly different for remote desktop connection as it's a Home edition of Windows and not Ultimate like my desktop. Finally, both computers are on the same Homegroup so that RDC can be accessed by one click through the network section of Windows. They're also on the same workgroup, MSHOME, just to see if that helps.

Enabling WinRM by Group Policy

I'm having partial success enabling WinRM through Active Directory GPO's on our Server 2008 R2 environment. I've created a GPO that enables "Allow automatic configuration of listeners" and also enables all the necessary predefined WinRM Firewall rules. This GPO works fine for our webservers. Indeed, this is reflected by the "Server Manager Remote Management" nicely flipping to "enabled" in Server Manager Server Summary. However, the same GPO applied to both our Management servers, which are Domain Controllers, does not give the same result. I see the GPO settings being applied, including the listener as confirmed by C:\Windows\system32>winrm e winrm/config/listener Listener [Source="GPO"] Address = * Transport = HTTP Port = 5985 Hostname Enabled = true URLPrefix = wsman CertificateThumbprint ListeningOn = 10.32.40.210, 10.32.40.211, 10.32.40.212 But in Server Manager, Server Summary, Remote Management remains on "disabled" and indeed when trying to connect to one of these machines Server Manager gives an "Access Denied". Manually enabling WinRM locally via Server Manager "Configure Server Manager Remote Management" on either of these machines works fine. What can be the cause? Can it have something to do with theses machines being DC's and needing extra settings in the GPO? Nick Reid

I opened it, had it run as me with the "restricted access" unchecked, then ran the above. The file in question has the following ACLs: Administrators, SYSTEM, and OurCompanyUsers. All three have full control of everything. Nobody has any Deny bits set. I am a member of Administrators. So I don't believe it's a permissions issue. It's not a USB drive, so this time there is no question of USB hardware. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2. What does this mean? Is this more likely a hardware or software problem?

Importing csv list of contacts into Exchange 2007 GAL and create Distribution Group

Here's the situation: We have a list of about 1,000 contacts (Lawyers in the area our court serves) with name and email address. I've been asked to create an email distribution list that can be used to sent emails to all of the external users on that list. I've seen various articles using the Exchange Management Shell and the Import-csv command piped through a ForEach-Object to a New-MailContact to set up the contacts. However, Exchange Management Shell is rather unhelpful, and it isn't working. What I believe I need to do is: 1) Set up a new distribution group using the Exchange Management Console. Let's say this new distribution group (which appears in the list of Distribution Groups under Recipient Configuration) is called "FloridaBar". 2) Make sure I have a csv file of the information I want to import. 3) Open Exchange Management Shell, and enter the following command: Import-csv C:\filename.csv | ForEach-Object { New-MailContact -Name $."NameColumnName" -ExternalEmailAddress $."EmailAddressColumn" -org FloridaBar Now, creating 1,000+ contacts in active directory - I assume that shouldn't be an issue. Do I have the "-org" parm wrong? Do I need to spell out the complete organization unit name (my.domain.name/Users/FloridaBar)? Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks in advance Ken
