• Is it possible to make a script/plugin for Finder to toggle hidden files without relaunching?

  There are several ways how to toggle hidden files in Finder - via a shell command, or AppleScript, or Automator action, or even a Dashboard widget. All of them are doing the same thing and unfortunately require to close and reopen Finder windows, which is quite annoying. On the other hand, for the Open File dialog one can easily toggle hidden files by pressing Command+Shift+Period. Is it possible to make a script or plugin for Finder to toggle hidden files w/o relaunching? How would you make it?

• Finding out event that called a CGI script

  What I want is to be able to make my CGI script do different things depending on what action initiated the calling of the script. For example, if one button is pressed, a database is cleared. If another button is pressed, a form is submitted and that data is added to the database. Should I be doing something like adding the name of the form/button to the end of the POST data submitted in jQuery and then .poping it off in the script? Or is there some other data that's already sent in the POST that I could get from FieldStorage that would give me the information I need to decide what the script should do when it's called? And what if I wasn't using javascript? Would I have to have a hidden field that gets submitted with the name of the form/button? Or is it best to use a different target script for each button on a page?

• How to I reference a pointer from a different class

  Hey team of awesomeness!, (Iphone Objective-C question) First off, I despise singletons with a passion. Though I should probably be trying to use one, I just dont want to. I want to create a data class (that is instantiated only once by a view controller on loading), and then using a different class, message the crap out of that data instance until it is brimming with so much data, it smiles. So, how do i do that? I made a pointer to the instance of the data class when I instantiated it. I'm now over in a separate view controller, action occurs, and I want to update the initial data object. I think I need to reference that object by way of pointer, but I have no idea how to do that. yes I've set properties and getters and setters, which seem to work, but only in the initial view controller class. But the same code without the pdf filename i.e var newwin=window.open("","Window1","menubar=no,width=430,height=360,toolbar=no"); opens up the popup window and show the print dialog box. Can anybody provide me a solution to this

  I have a strange problem where an onclick event on an input image is being fired when i hit enter in input text box <form id="MyForm" action="/someaction"> <input type="image" src="someimage.jpg" onclick="doStuff();$('#MyForm').submit();" /> <input type="text" name="textInput"/> </form> When the cursor is in the text box and i hit enter, rather than the form being submitted it calls the onclick event on the image input.   I'm working at a web application in Python/Twisted. I want the user to be able to download a very big file ( 100 Mb). I don't want to load all the file in memory (of the server), of course. server side I have this idea: ... request.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/plain') fp = open(fileName, 'rb') try: r = None while r != '': r = fp.read(1024) request.write(r) finally: fp.close() request.finish() I expected this to work, but I have problems: I'm testing with FF... It seems the browser make me wait until the file is completed downloaded, and then I have the open/save dialog box. I expected the dialog box immediately, and then the progress bar in action... Maybe I have to add something in the Http header... Something like the size of the file?

• Security when writing a PHP webservice?

  I am writing a web service in PHP for the first time and had ran into some security problems. 1) I am planning to hash passwords using md5() before I write them to the database (or to authenticate the user) but I realize that to do that, I would have to transmit the password in plaintext to the server and hash it there. Because of this I thought of md5()ing it with javascript client side and then rehashing on the server but then if javascript is disabled, then the user can't login, right? 2) I have heard that anything that when the action is readonly, you should use GET but if it modifies the database, you should use POST. Isn't post just as transparent as GET, just not in the address bar?

Is this a valid scenario? Because in the servlet, I couldn't retive these chines characters back using a filter that sets the character encoding to GB2312!! Please help

• MVC Serve audio files while preventing direct linking using HttpResponseBase

  I need to be able to serve audio files to an mvc app while preventing direct access. Ideally the page would render with a player control so the user can start/stop the audio linked to the database record (audio files are in a folder not the db). I have a controller action like this: Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = "audio/wav"; Response.TransmitFile(audioFilename); Response.End(); return Response; and the view uses the RenderAction method <% Html.RenderAction("ServeAudioFile"); %> this works but it won't display inline on the existing view, it opens a new page with just the media control. Am I totally barking up the wrong tree or is there a way to embed the response in the existing view? works exactly as I would like but I can't control access to the file.

• Convert long number as string in the serialization

  I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute. • TextBox loses text when InvokeRequired == false

  This is modified code I found on this site. When appending text to a TextBox and InvoveRequired is false the text will display in the box but the next time the function is called and InvokeRequired is true the text string placed by the first call is lost (""). Multiple calls when InvokeRequired is true work as expected. comBox is a type TextBox with multline = true. • Open Folder within ClearCase Remote Client using Windows Explorer

  Is there a way to open the folder location of a file from within CCRC? While I know I can open/copy from directly within CCRC, it is often useful to work directly with the file from within Windows Explorer. I am looking for something like "open file location" or "open in windows explorer". The folder within CCRC does not appear to allow opening it directly as the double-mouse-click action just expands the tree listing. The path is listed/copyable within the "ClearCase Details" tab, but I am trying to take my laziness to a whole new level by being able to open the folder with a single click. • Emulator batteryService not working

  So i've got a 1.6 emulator running. I have a receiver with action power connected and disconnected filters. when i connect to the emulator through telnet and issue the power ac on or power ac off command, logcat shows: 01-11 21:33:01.096: ERROR/BatteryService(67): Could not open '/sys/class/power_supply/usb/online' 01-11 21:33:01.104: ERROR/BatteryService(67): Could not open '/sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_vol' 01-11 21:33:01.104: ERROR/BatteryService(67): Could not open '/sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_temp' and my receiver does not get activated. It was working just fine yesterday and now it does not. I tried reinstalling the AVD, and also deleted and reinstalled the SDK from the SDK manager. Works fine in my 2.2 emulator. Any ideas?

• Objective-C and Cocoa : crash when calling a class function without entering the function

  Hello, I have a class function (declared and implemented) in a class MyUtils : + (NSString*) theFunction:(NSString*)param1 param2:(NSString*)param2 param3:(NSString*)param3; When I call this function, with : NSString *item = [MyUtils theFunction:@"abc" param2:aPreviousNSString param3:@"xyz"; my app crashes. In the debugger I have a breakpoint on the first action of the "theFunction" function. And this breakpoint is never reached. If I replace the call by NSString *item = @"youyou"; then everything is ok. Forcing a retain on aPreviousNSString before the call does not change anything. Do you have an idea of what is happening ?   I have this type that contains two overloads of a generic method. I like to retrieve one of the overloads (with the Func<T> parameter) using reflection. The problem however is that I can't find the correct parameter type to supply the Type.GetMethod(string, Type[]) method with.   What happens if you call dispatcherOperation.Wait() on an operation that has already completed? Also, the docs say that it returns a DispatcherOperationStatus, but wouldn't that always be Completed since it (supposedly) doesn't return until it's done? I was trying to use it like this: private void Update() { while (ops.Count > 0) ops.Dequeue().Wait(); } public void Add(T item) { lock (sync) { if (dispatcher.CheckAccess()) { list.Add(item); OnCollectionChanged(new NotifyCollectionChangedEventArgs(NotifyCollectionChangedAction.Add, item)); } else { ops.Enqueue(dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action<T>(Add), item)); } } } I'm using this in WPF, so all the Add operations have to occur on the UI thread, but I figured I could basically just queue them up without having to wait for it to switch threads, and then just call Update() before any read operations to ensure that the list is up to date, but my program started hanging.
