• How do you fix an SVN 409 Conflict Error

  I used to use SVN 1.4 on OS X Leopard and everything was fine. A couple of weeks ago I installed a fresh copy of OS X 10.6. The version of SVN that comes with Snow Leopard is 1.6.5. I went ahead and built my own copy with 1.6.6. I'm using the built in apache server and just hosting repositories locally. Everything appeared to work fine until I actually tried to commit something. Everytime I try to commit a change, I get the following message: Transmitting file data .svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: MERGE of '/svn/svn2': 409 Conflict (http://localhost) This happens with my old repositories, so I created a couple of new ones. Same deal. I also tried using the 1.6.5 version that comes with the system...same. Finally, I tried upgrading to the latest stable SVN (1.6.9) and still got the same problem. I'm not using TortoiseSVN or anything special and commits fail on a new repository, so I know it's not a problem with my old repos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Using Apple’s Bonjour service from .NET?

  I have an iPhone app that publishes through Bonjour. The Mac counterpart works, they sync and exchange data. Now I have to port that little Mac app to Windows. I’ve decided to go with .NET (because that’s what I know). The app is not complex, but I’m in the early stages. I need to browse/discover Bonjour services. For this task, I’ve downloaded Mono.Zeroconf and Apple’s latest SDK (which includes a couple of C# Samples). I’m not really pasting code because I’m really copy/pasting the samples. In fact, Mono.Zeroconf has a MZClient.exe that can be used to test “all the API”. My 1st test was -on the same box- open two cmd.exe and launch a MZclient registering a service and on the other, launch it and “discover it”. It doesn’t work. Here’s the server: C:\MZ>MZClient -v -p "_http._tcp 80 mysimpleweb” *** Registering name = 'mysimpleweb', type = '_http._tcp', domain = 'local.' *** Registered name = ‘mysimpleweb’ On the other terminal: c:\MZ>MZClient -v -t "_http._tcp" Creating a ServiceBrowser with the following settings: Interface = 0 (All) Address Protocol = Any Domain = local Registration Type = _http._tcp Resolve Shares = False Hit ^C when you're bored waiting for responses. And that’s it. Nothing happens. I’ve of course tried with different services to no avail. Even played a little bit with that domain thing. Remember this is the same box. I tried on another computer, because this was a VM inside OSX, so I went ahead and tried on a “pure” win XP. Nothing. note: I have Apple Bonjour Service (up and running) and also the Apple SDK (installed later). Given that this didn’t work, I went ahead and decided to try the Apple SDK which has an Interop and a few pre-compiled samples (and its source code). Short story, neither the mDSNBrowser.exe nor the SimpleChat.exe work/see/discover anything. My box is a Win7 under Parallels, but that doesn’t seem to be affecting anything, given that the native XP exhibits the same problems. What am I doing so awfully wrong?

• DbgHelp.dll : Problem calling SymGetModuleInfo64 from C#

  Hello everyone, I have quite strange behaviour calling SymGetModuleInfo64 from C# code.I always get ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER (87) with Marshal.GetLastWin32Error().I have already read a lot of posts regarding problems with frequent updates of IMAGEHLP_MODULE64 struct and I just downloaded latest Debugging Tools For Windows (x86) , loaded dbghelp.dll from that location and I was quite sure it would work.Nevertheless I am getting the same error.Can anyone point me what is wrong here? • Classic ASP vs. ASP.NET encryption options

  I'm working on a web site where the new pages are ASP.NET and the legacy pages are Classic ASP. Being new to development in the Windows env, I've been studying the latest technology, i.e. .NET and I become like a deer in headlights when ever legacy issues come up regarding COM objects. Security on the website is an abomination, but I've easily encrypted the connectionStrings in the web.config file per http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/021506-1.aspx based on DPAPI machine mode. I understand this approach is not the most secure, but it's better than nothing which is what it was for the ASP.NET pages. Now, I question how to do similar encryption for the connection strings used by the Classic ASP pages. A complicating factor is that the web sited is hosted where I do not have admin permissions or even command line access, just FTP. Moreover I want to avoid managing the key. My research has found: DPAPI with COM interop. Seems like this should already be available, but the only thing I could find discussing this is CyptoUtility (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163884.aspx) which is not installed on the hosting server. There are plenty of other third party COM objects, e.g. Crypto from Dalun Software http://www.dalun.com, but these aren't on the hosted server either, and they look to me to require you to do some kind of key management. There is CAPICOM on the hosted server, but M$ has deprecated it and many report it is not the easiest to use. It is not clear to me whether I can avoid key management with CAPICOM similar to using DPAPI for ASP.NET. If anyone happens to know, please clue me in. I could write an web service in ASP.NET and have the classic ASP pages use it to get the decrypted connection strings and then store those in an application variable. I would not need to use SSL since I could use localhost and nothing would be sent over the internet. In the simpliest form I could implement what someone termed a poor man's version based on a simple XML stream, however, I really was looking to avoid any development since I find it hard to believe there is not a simple solution for Classic ASP like there is for ASP.NET. Maybe I'm missing some options... Recommendations are requested...

• Why does Celery work in Python shell, but not in my Django views? (import problem)

  I installed Celery (latest stable version.) I have a directory called /home/myuser/fable/jobs. Inside this directory, I have a file called tasks.py: from celery.decorators import task from celery.task import Task class Submitter(Task): def run(self, post, **kwargs): return "Yes, it works!!!!!!" Inside this directory, I also have a file called celeryconfig.py: BROKER_HOST = "localhost" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_USER = "abc" BROKER_PASSWORD = "xyz" BROKER_VHOST = "fablemq" CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = "amqp" CELERY_IMPORTS = ("tasks", ) In my /etc/profile, I have these set as my PYTHONPATH: PYTHONPATH=/home/myuser/fable:/home/myuser/fable/jobs So I run my Celery worker using the console ($ celeryd --loglevel=INFO), and I try it out. I open the Python console and import the tasks. • Cannot add Silverlight Maps Control to Windows Mobile 7 application

  I know the bits just came out today, but one of the first things I want to do with the newly released Windows Mobile 7 SDK is put a map up on the screen and mess around. I've downloaded the latest version of the Silverlight Maps Control and added the references to my application. As a matter of fact, the VS 2010 design view of the MainPage.xaml shows the map control after adding the namespace and placing the control. I'm using the provided VS 2010 Express version that comes with the Win Mobile 7 SDK and have just used the New Project - Windows Phone Application template. When I try to build I get two warnings related to the Microsoft.Maps.MapControl dll's. Warning 1 The primary reference "Microsoft.Maps.MapControl, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=498d0d22d7936b73, processorArchitecture=MSIL" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the framework assembly "System.Windows.Browser, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e" which could not be resolved in the currently targeted framework. "Silverlight,Version=v4.0,Profile=WindowsPhone". • Global Entity Framework Context in WPF Application

  Good day, I am in the middle of development of a WPF application that is using Entity Framework (.NET 3.5). It accesses the entities in several places throughout. I am worried about consistency throughout the application in regard to the entities. Should I be instancing separate contexts in my different views, or should I (and is a a good way to do this) instance a single context that can be accessed globally? For instance, my entity model has three sections, Shipments (with child packages and further child contents), Companies/Contacts (with child addresses and telephones), and disk specs. The Shipments and EditShipment views access the DiskSpecs, and the OptionsView manages the DiskSpecs (Create, Edit, Delete). If I edit a DiskSpec, I have to have something in the ShipmentsView to retrieve the latest specs if I have separate contexts right? If it is safe to have one overall context from which the rest of the app retrieves it's objects, then I imagine that is the way to go. If so, where would that instance be put? I am using VB.NET, but I can translate from C# pretty good. Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want one of those applications where the user has to hit reload a dozen times in different parts of the app to get the new data. Update: OK so I have changed my app as follows: All contexts are created in Using Blocks to dispose of them after they are no longer needed. When loaded, all entities are detatched from context before it is disposed. A new property in the MainViewModel (ContextUpdated) raises an event that all of the other ViewModels subscribe to which runs that ViewModels RefreshEntities method. After implementing this, I started getting errors saying that an entity can only be referenced by one ChangeTracker at a time. Since I could not figure out which context was still referencing the entity (shouldn't be any context right?) I cast the object as IEntityWithChangeTracker, and set SetChangeTracker to nothing (Null). This has let to the current problem: When I Null the changeTracker on the Entity, and then attach it to a context, it loses it's changed state and does not get updated to the database. However if I do not null the change tracker, I can't attach. I have my own change tracking code, so that is not a problem. My new question is, how are you supposed to do this. A good example Entity query and entity save code snipped would go a long way, cause I am beating my head in trying to get what I once thought was a simple transaction to work. Any help would elevate you to near god-hood.

The answer to the earlier question looks great, but I'm afraid that the Fluent Nhibernate API altered its .WithConvention syntax last year and broke the answer... either that or I'm missing something. I keep getting a bunch of name space not found errors relating to the IOneToOnePart, IManyToOnePart and all their variations: "The type or namespace name 'IOneToOnePart' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" I've tried the official example dll's, the RTM dll's and the latest build and none of them seem to make VS 2008 see the required namespace. • WPF Choppy Animation

  WPF Windows-XP SP3 I'm having a problem with a simple WPF animation. After a fresh reboot of the machine, this animation is nice and smooth. However, I tend to leave my machine on all the time and after a period time elapses (I don't know how long), the animation starts stuttering and becomes choppy. I thought that it may be memory or resource issues, but after shutting down all other apps and any services that seem unnecessary, the stuttering still continues. However, after a system reboot, the animation is smooth again! I get the same symptoms in a WPF app or in XamlPad. In the case of the app, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether I run in the debugger or if I run the executable directly. I applied the patch at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981741 and I thought that it had taken care of the issue, but it seems not to have. I have seen some posts that might indicate that using transparency might affect animation, but as you can see, my xaml does not use transparency. Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to determine what the problem is? Are there any WPF diagnostic tools that might help? UPDATE: I have checked my video drivers and they are the latest version. (nVidia GeForce 8400 GS)

  [Disclaimer: This has been cross posted on the Android Developers Google Group I am trying to use a CompoundButton in a project I am working on. Every time I try and use it by declaring it in my layout xml file I receive the error "01-04 12:27:46.471: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1771): Caused by: android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #605: Error inflating class android.widget.CompoundButton" After fighting the error for a half an hour I decided to try a minimalistic example. I am using the latest eclipse developer tools, and targeting android 2.2 makign the minimum sdk required 2.2 (8).   Hello, How to do bind data from DataTable to Chart series? I get null reference exception. I tried binding with square brackets and it did not worked either. So, how to do the binding? Thanks. P.S: I included DataGrid XAML and CS which works just fine. Converting data to List<KeyValuePair<string,int>> works good but it is kinda slow and is unnessesary trash in code. I use WPFToolkit (the latest version). • How to use AVCaptureSession to stream live preview video, then take a photo, then return to streaming

  I have an application that creates its own live preview prior to taking a still photo. The app needs to run some processing on the image data and thus is not able to rely on AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer. Getting the initial stream to work is going quite well, using Apple's example code. The problem comes when I try to switch to the higher quality image to take the snapshot. In response to a button press I attempt to reconfigure the session for taking a full resolution photo. (AVFoundationErrorDomain error -11800.)\" UserInfo=0x19d810 {}"; The documentation in XCode ostensibly provides more information for the error number (-11800), "AVErrorUnknown - Reason for the error is unknown."; Previously I had also tried calls to stopRunning and startRunning, but no longer do that after watching WWDC Session 409, where it is discouraged. When I was stopping and starting, I was getting a different error message -11819, which corresponds to "AVErrorMediaServicesWereReset - The operation could not be completed because media services became unavailable.", which is much nicer than simply "unknown", but not necessarily any more helpful. It successfully adds the AVCaptureStillImageOutput (i.e., does NOT emit the log message). I am testing on an iPhone 3g (w/4.1) and iPhone 4. This call is happening in the main thread, which is also where my original AVCaptureSession setup took place. How can I avoid the error? How can I switch to the higher resolution to take the photo?   I am trying to compare two tables to find rows in each table that is not in the other. Table 1 has a groupby column to create 2 sets of data within table one. groupby number ----------- ----------- 1 1 1 2 2 1 2 2 2 4 Table 2 has only one column. number ----------- 1 3 4 So Table 1 has the values 1,2,4 in group 2 and Table 2 has the values 1,3,4. The groupby field is the equivalent of a batchid for an extract and I am comparing the latest extract in a temp table to a the batch from yesterday stored in a partioneds table, which also has all the previously extracted batches as well. • who free's setvbuf buffer?

  So I've been digging into how the stdio portion of libc is implemented and I've come across another question. Looking at man setvbuf I see the following: When the first I/O operation occurs on a file, malloc(3) is called, and a buffer is obtained. This makes sense, your program should have a malloc in it for I/O unless you actually use it. My gut reaction to this is that libc will clean up its own mess here. Which I can only assume it does because valgrind reports no memory leaks (they could of course do something dirty and not allocate it via malloc directly... but we'll assume that it literally uses malloc for now). But, you can specify your own buffer too... int main() { char *p = malloc(100); setvbuf(stdio, p, _IOFBF, 100); puts("hello world"); } Oh no, memory leak! valgrind confirms it. So it seems that whenever stdio allocates a buffer on its own, it will get deleted automatically (at the latest on program exit, but perhaps on stream close). But if you specify the buffer explicitly, then you must clean it up yourself. There is a catch though. The man page also says this: You must make sure that the space that buf points to still exists by the time stream is closed, which also happens at program termination. For example, the following is invalid: Now this is getting interesting for the standard streams. How would one properly clean up a manually allocated buffer for them, since they are closed in program termination? I could imagine a "clean this up when I close flag" inside the file struct, but it get hairy because if I read this right doing something like this: setvbuf(stdio, 0, _IOFBF, 100); printf("hello "); setvbuf(stdio, 0, _IOLBF, 100); printf("world\n"); would cause 2 allocations by the standard library because of this sentence: If the argument buf is NULL, only the mode is affected; a new buffer will be allocated on the next read or write operation.

  It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard. • Confused as to how to validate spring mvc form, what are my options?

  Latest spring mvc, using freemarker. Hoping someone could tell me what my options are in terms of validating a form with spring mvc, and what the recommend way would be to do this. I have a form that doesn't map directly to a model, it has input fields that when posted, will be used to initialze 2 model objects which I will then need to validate, and if they pass I will save them. If they fail, I want to return back to the form, pre-fill the values with what the user entered and display the error messages. I have read here and there about 2 methods, once of which I have done and understand how it works: @RequestMapping(...., method = RequestMethod.POST) public ModelAndView myMethod(@Valid MyModel, BindingResult bindingResult) { ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView("some/view"); mav.addObject("mymodel", myModel); if(bindingResult.hasErrors()) { return mav; } } Now this worked if my form mapped directly to the form, but in my situation I have: form fields that don't map to any specific model, they have a few properties from 2 models. before validation occurrs, I need to create the 2 models manually, set the values from the values from the form, and manually set some properties also: Call validate on both models (model1, model2), and append these error messages to the errors collection which I need to pass back to the same view page if things don't work. when the form posts, I have to do some database calls, and based on those results may need to add additional messages to the errors collection Can someone tell me how to do this sort of validation? • compiling opencv 2.4 on a 64 bit mac in Xcode

  I have an opencv project that I've been developing under ubuntu 12.04, on a parellels VM on a mac which has an x86_64 architecture. There have been many screen switching performance issues that I believe are due to the VM, where linux video modes flip around for a couple seconds while camera access is made by the opencv application. I decided to moved the project into Xcode on the mac side of the computer to continue the opencv development. However, I'm not that familiar with xcode and am having trouble getting the project to build correctly there. I have xcode installed. I downloaded and decompressed the latest version of opencv on the mac, and ran: ~/src/opencv/build/cmake-gui -G Xcode .. per the instructions from willowgarage and various other locations. This appeared to work fine (however I'm wondering now if I'm missing an architecture setting in here, although it is 64-bit intel in Xcode). I then setup an xcode project with the source files from the linux project and changed the include directories to use /opt/local/include/... rather than the /usr/local/include/... I switched xcode to use the LLVM GCC compiler in the build settings for the project then set the Apple LLVM Dialog for C++ to Language Dialect to GNU++11 (which seems possibly inconsistant with the line above) I'm not using a makefile in xcode, (that I'm aware of - it has its own project file...) I was also running into a linker issue that looked like they may be resolved with the addition of this linker flag: -lopencv_video based on a similar posting here: other thread however in that case the person was using a Makefile in their project. I've tried adding this linker flag under "Other Linker Flags" in xcode build settings but still get build errors. I think I may have two issues here, one with the architecture settings when building the opencv libraries with Cmake, and one with the linker flag settings in my project. • jQuery nested sortables jumpy behaviour

  I want to allow user to drag and drop UI elements. I've 'container' and 'control', control may be in container, containers may include other containers (this is important requirement). I created simple prototype using jQuery. HTML: <div class="one"> <div class="control">Control 1</div> <div class="control">Control 2</div> <div class="control container"> Container drag area <div class="control">Subcontrol 1</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 2</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 3</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 4</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 5</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 6</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 7</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 8</div> <div class="control">Subcontrol 9</div> </div> <div class="control">Control 3</div> Then I created sortables using jQueryUI: $('.one').sortable({ items: 'div.control', placeholder: 'placeholder', forcePlaceholderSize: true }); Now when I'm trying to drag "Subcontrol 8" and place it between "Subcontrol 2" and "Subcontrol 3" for example I'm getting jumpy effect, you can observe it here: http://jsbin.com/egipu4/2 Interesting thing is - when I remove ability to drag "container" then it becomes smooth and perfect (you can see this on jsbin example below "jumpy" example, you can't drag using "Container drag area" span). I tried different "nested" plugins and techniques, google'd for a long time and the only one that worked was on this page: (StackOverflow doesn't allow me to post more than one like, google for "Brian Swartzfager's Blog: Nested List Sort Demo" should be first, sorry!) But it does work great only in jQuery1.2 and very old jQueryUI. If I include latest jQuery (1.3/1.4) and UI (1.7/1.8) it gets jumpy as well. What am I doing wrong?

• Long Running Stored Proc - Report Progress Using BackgroundWorker & Timer

  While a long running stored proc (RMR_Seek) is executing (called via a Linq-To-SQL data context) I am trying to call another stored proc (RMR_GetLatestModelMessage) to check a table for the latest status message. The long running stored proc updates the table in question with status messages as it executes. I want to display the status message on a message panel to advise the user of the status of the execution of Proc_A. For various reasons it is not possible to determine how long RMR_Seek will take to execute so a progress bar with percentage increments is not feasible. I thought I'd found the way to do it by calling the long running stored proc from in a BackgroundWorker process DoWork event handler. This worked fine and allowed me to update my message panel with some dummy status messages that were NOT obtained via Proc_B while Proc_A was running. However now that I have tried to implement this fully by calling Proc_B to obtain the status messages I am running into problems that seem to be related to the mix of the backgroundworker and my System.Windows.Forms.Timer. An extract of the code I am using is below. I have tried many different ways around this but each one seems to present its own set of problems. The code below is problematic in the bw_DoWork event. The RMR_Seek stored proc gets called but does not execute properly - it also seems to be inconsistent as to whether _IsCompleted gets set to true.
