• ruby hash to object - Parsing data from JSON object

  Hi all, I'm just starting to dabble in consuming a JSON webservice, and I am having a little trouble working out the best way to get to the actual data elements. I am receiving a response which has been converted into a ruby hash using the JSON.parse method. The hash looks like this: {"response"=>{"code"=>2002, "payload"=>{"topic"=>[{"name"=>"Topic Name", "url"=>"http://www.something.com/topic", "hero_image"=>{"image_id"=>"05rfbwV0Nggp8", "hero_image_id"=>"0d600BZ7MZgLJ", "hero_image_url"=>"http://img.something.com/imageserve/0d600BZ7MZgLJ/60x60.jpg"}, "type"=>"PERSON", "search_score"=>10.0, "topic_id"=>"0eG10W4e3Aapo"}]}, "message"=>"Success"}} What I would like to know, is what is the easiest way to get to the "topic" data so I can do something like: topic.name = json_resp.name topic.img = jsob_resp.hero_image_url etc Many thanks for any help you can offer.   I'm not at all meaning to seem rude or arrogant or something like that to everyone here, but why must we all be so mean when trying to answer each other's questions? I mean people have the right to pick up a skill such as programming at any point in time. It's not like we aren't encouraged to ask each other for help, but alot of people who are doing the answering seem to generally say "this is simple. why aren't you getting this?". I mean some of it may be, but isn't it really kind of an indicator that we should make the documentations for these things a little more extensive?

  The purpose of this question is to play a joke, but the question itself is serious. Inspired by DOS on Dope, I want to make my own framework for Web Service development based on MFC serialization. However, my only experience in Web Service development consists in having written a toy ASP.NET Web Service. All I had to do to expose a method was... [WebMethod] public ReturnType ExposedMethod(InputType1 param1, InputType2 param2) { //... } ... and ASP.NET took care of the rest for me. Obviously, I will have to do everything by hand in my own framework. Thus, I would like to delve a bit more into the little details of how ordinary SOAP Web Services work, in order to replicate them. So I have mainly two questions: Where can I find the details on how SOAP Web Services work, and what ASP.NET hides from me? What are the main challenges I am going to find in my completely lunatic project?

• How can I tell what is using the memory when there is a heap overflow in Java?

  Hi all, I know a little about profiling, but what I am particularlly insterest in, is what has all the memory when I get these heap over flow exceptions. I will start getting them after about a hour of debugging. I am hoping there is some sort of dump or something, that I can use to get a list of what instances are around at the time the program starts. By the way, sorry if this is a lazy question. • Web UI prototyping tools

  Can anyone recomend me a simple web UI prototyping tool, so I could quicky prototype the look of a my web site. I have tried to use MS Visio for this, but found it very "user un-friendly". What I really need is to be able quicky sketch the layout of the page, put some links, images and buttons on in, play a little bit with a colors (CSS), and it would be great it this tool could support navigation between the pages - but it is not essential. I would rather consider a low-cost or an open-source solution, since I am not a web designer and not going to use that tool on a daily basis.

• For securing forms, when do I issue the token?

  So, I have a form, to make it a little more secure and potentially help prevent CSRF attacks I want to add a random token value in a hidden field that value is also stored server side in my session data. When should I issue a new token? Per form? Per page load where there is any form? Per session? I can render it invalid as soon as a form is successfully submitted but I'm wondering when to generate one. I ask as if I issue it per form or per page do I not risk the chance of a duplicate token value overwriting the existing (valid) token if a user opens a separate window but submitting the first form (with the now overwritten value)?

• .net c# datagridview populating with non database data/setup

  Hi, I have never used the datagridview in any other scenario other than one where it is populating by a database so suddenly my mind goes blank... I have 10 tubes, each with 8 vertical positions within it, so I have a 10 by 8 grid basically. Each has of those slots has (or not) an image in a folder. How do I get a datagridview to reflect this information, draw a grid, check the folder and if the image exists paint it white, and if not paint it red? Sorry it if sounds a little odd, thanks, R.

  I was wondering if anyone knows of some good community distributed custom DDL templates for Entity Framework 4.0. The default DDL to SQL10 Works well enough, but we're looking to do some customization to the naming convention that it just isn't offering us. I'm not really finding many samples out there of people doing this, so I was hoping someone might know of a resource I'm overlooking (perhaps I am searching for it wrong, or misunderstanding how the whole process works) Specifically we're wanting to change up how it writes out fields from relationships. For instance, the default template puts in.. tablename_propertyendpoint_propertyname. We're wanting to find tune this to our naming scheme a little more. And none of us can quite figure out where in the .tt files it is doing this exact behavior.

• Creating a popup tool bar in a full screen NSOpenGLView (OSX Cocoa)

  I have a Cocoa app in which one of my NSOpenGLViews can go into full screen mode (I do this with the method enterFullScreenMode:withOptions:). I would like to create a little widget that when you mouse over it, a toolbar pops up with some different controls. I am wondering what would be the best way to implement this widget? At first I thought about using a panel but I don't think you can bring up any windows when in full screen mode. Also, it seems that you can't add a subview to an NSOpenGLView? Are these two assumptions correct? What else could I use to accomplish this?

  Hi, In short: is there a way to compile and run single file in NetBeans or Visual Studio without having to setup and tinker with projects? I'm currently using code::blocks as my IDE. It's fast and very simple: perfect for my needs as a begginner. I wanted to dive a little deeper and try out a more advanced IDE such as NetBeans or Visual Studio. It appears I have to mess with projects and have a setup that seems overkill for having to compile and run one very simple .c/.cpp source file that contains less than 50-100 lines of code etc. Is there a way around this?

• Fonts in a multi-platform environment

  What is the best way to deal with fonts in a multi-platform distributed system? If I want to use a common font across all systems to show to the user, what's the best way to do this. From the little I've been reading each platform looks to have fonts that are of the same family (ie serif, sans-serif) but with different names. CSS looks to have the functionality baked in where it will make the best selection it can of font on the users machine. Is there similar functionality either in system libraries or external libraries for Windows & Linux. I'm using C++ mainly? Can someone point me in the right direction for documentation as well?   Hello, I'm working with a small team of developers. My job is to convert a Make project (with Intellij Idea 9.0) into a Maven 2 project. The problem is : we spend a lot of time during the development. With Make, only one complete build was required and then any change did not consume a lot of time (almost instantaneously). On the other hand, with Maven 2, a little change takes a lot of time to run. Any solution ? Thanks.

• Java: Is it possible to take a GUI Panel and output it into a picture?

  So I have this chart that's a little special. Kind of like an XY plot of points but my boss wanted to look like a bunch of boxes rather than dots connected by lines. And I basically made a chart using gridlayout and a whole bunch of cells that I'll be colouring in black or white depending on the data. Now he sorta wants it to be outputted to a image file. Is there any way to save a Panel into a picture? He wants to display not only the data but also save a visual representation of the data into an image file.

  Ok I know little about SQL so bare with me... I'm trying to see if certain values exist in a third level table and I don't know how to go about it. Here is the scenario... I have a Accident table that holds accident information. It has 3 one-to-many child tables (Units, Occupants, NonMotorists). An each of those child tables have their own many-to-many child table (Alcohol). I need to be able to have some way of seeing if a range of values exists in a field in those Alcohol tables. • UISearchBarDisplayController - Fixed SearchBar

  I've been trying to get UISearchBarDisplayController to not animate, and stay fixed below the navigation bar. Is this even possible, I've been getting some weird results. This is all configured through a storyboard. I am just trying to figure out If I should just create my own implementation of UISearchBarDisplayController since it kinda seems a little impossible to customize it to my need. Clicking the search box When I start searching the top has extra paddding (20pt). It's assuming its on top of the origin y: 0 to prevent overlapping of status bar. I can't click outside or the cancel, x buttons. What happens If I click cancel, before searching

• How does youtube enable ascii videos?

  Just by messing around a little it seems that the video stream is not ascii. i tested by downloading the stream. It would be insane if it was. Theres so many videos. So that couldnt be it. Youtube seems to not work with javascript disable (not counting mobile if true). How is it being done? is it javascript magic? is the SWF running the video through a filter in realtime? (I doubt its a native filter so how is the filter compiled) its really cool. I cant imagine how this is running realtime yet it is!

• Data validation between SQL replicated tables

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs. • C++: use array of strings wrapped in namespace?

  I got the following code, wishing to wrap a group of strings nicely in a namespace: namespace msgs { const int arr_sz = 3; const char *msg[arr_sz] = {"blank", "blank", "blank" }; msg[0] = "Welcome, lets start by getting a little info from you!\n"; msg[1] = "Alright, bla bla bla.."; msg[2] = "etc."; } The code inside works nicely inside a function, but I don't know how to return an array from it. The namespace idea LOOKS fine, but it returns on the last three lines: error: expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion before ‘=’ token Why can't I define the array inside a namespace, do I need to do something first? It's nice because I can call it like printf(msgs::msg[1]) etc. I want to do this I just can't wrap my head around what's wrong :(

• Storyboard changing controller (modal) not working

  I have problem with navigation between ViewControllers: here is my storyboard: http://postimg.org/image/dar9pkuvl/ The navigation between controllers in green rectangle works fine, I add to controller number 1 controller number 2 (by addtosubview) and then controllers number 3,4,5 to UIScrollView in controller number 2 ( controller number 2 contain scrollview). Everything work fine but if I click Send buttn on controller 4 nothing happens (It is strange because I was added connection between button and controller in the same way like between controllers 7 and 8). I know it is little bit confusing described, but I hope that someone tell me where is problem. Thanks

• Looping in filemaker using a local variable

  Been programming in C# for a little bit - trying to use file maker and I cant believe it but I cant even get a simple for loop to work. What I want to do is simple: loop through for the amount of entries in my "amountOfRooms" field and create an entry in a table for each room. Sounds so simple, but I cant get it to work. Right now I have this: Set Variable[$cnt[Customers::AmountOfRooms]; value:1] Go to Layout["rooms"(Rooms)] Loop Exit Loop If[$cnt = Customers::AmountOfRooms] New Record / Request Set Variable[$cnt; Value: $cnt + 1] End Loop Exit Script No new records are created. I know the script is running because it does go to my layout, but doesnt create any new records. There is a "Repetition" field for my local variable - not sure how to use that or what it means? Any thoughts on how to do this simple loop? Thanks.

• Can anyone explain how to configure the title of my block? I can configure "teaser" and "image", but not "title".

  In content management, I want to configure the title of my block. I do not want the title to show up on the top of the actual page (I want it to show up just in the sidebar where the viewer can click on it). I want a different title on the page that it goes to after clicking the sidebar block. How do I do that? There is no configure button for "title", but there is one for "teaser" and "image". I have little experience with computers, so any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  I have a couple of functions that loop around the surrounding cells of a cell. The grid is contained inside an array. In my code, I have checks to make sure it's not one of the edge cells, as checking an undefined cell causes an error. As such, I have code like this: if(x > 0) { var firstX = x - 1; } else { var firstX = x; } if(x < 199) { var lastX = x + 1; } else { var lastX = x; } if(y > 0) { var firstY = y - 1; } else { var firstY = y; } if(y < 199) { var lastY = y + 1; } else { var lastY = y; } A lot of lines of code to do very little. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

• swipe to delete uitableview cell; a bit jumpy?

  I have implemented "swipe to delete" on my table cell. It works fine, how ever, the delete button is a little jumpy; as in, i really have to position my finger on top of the button and carefully touch it to delete the record. I am not sure if am making it clear; let me do my best to explain When the delete button appears; the user has trouble clicking on it, it disappears the moment its clicked. THe user has to try a few times to actually delete the cell. Am not sure what the reason is, it just seems like the delete button gets hidden as though the user has clicked on a different part of the cell. Any suggestsions?

• Static keyboard in uitableview

  I have a UITableView that holds just two cells with a textfield in each. As my tableview is just for editing the text in these textfields I always want the keyboard to be shown static in the bottom of the screen. So in viewDidLoad I set the first textfield to become first responder. Something I have noticed though is that when I push the UITableViewController into the UINavigationController the keyboard show up a little bit slower so you can see it animate into the screen. It would be much better if it was there already there when the uitableview shows up. I also tried making the textfield first responder before pushing it as recommended but that didn't made the keyboard show at all: MyTableViewController *myTableViewController = [[MyTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyTableViewController" bundle:nil]; [myTableViewController.textField becomeFirstResponder]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:myTableViewController animated:YES]; [myTableViewController release]; How can I accomplish this? So I would like some help here,how could I modify my "matches" variable,to have buttons also shown inside the dialog. Thanks.
