• WPF AutoCompleteBox with ability to add new values to list.

  Hi, I would like to use autocompletebox with a list of values, but also add new values to the list if a user enters one that isn't present. I currently have a string property in my view model called 'Comment'. Currently this is bound to a textbox in the view - user types a comment and the view model is updated. Simple. To save time, my customer would like it to autocomplete from previous values, so the way I thought to do this is something like: ViewModel public string Comment; public ObservableCollection<string> CommentsList { ... } (populate the CommentsList when the viewmodel is created) View <AutoCompleteComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding CommentsList}" SelectedItem="{Binding Comment, Mode=TwoWay/> So when the user selects a value, it saves the value in the Comment property. This works fine if the user selects an item in the list, but if the user types in a new value, the comment property is not updated (it is null because the selected item was not in the list). Is this possible with autocompletebox? Thanks in advance, Will

• Creating ViewResults outside of Controllers in ASP.NET MVC

  Several of my controller actions have a standard set of failure-handling behavior. In general, I want to: Load an object based on the Route Data (IDs and the like) If the Route Data does not point to a valid object (ex: through URL hacking) then inform the user of the problem and return an HTTP 404 Not Found Validate that the current user has the proper permissions on the object If the user doesn't have permission, inform the user of the problem and return an HTTP 403 Forbidden If the above is successful, then do something with that object that's action-specific (ie: render it in a view). These steps are so standardized that I want to have reusable code to implement the behavior. My current plan of attack was to have a helper method to do something like this: public static ActionResult HandleMyObject(this Controller controller, Func<MyObject,ActionResult> onSuccess) { var myObject = MyObject.LoadFrom(controller.RouteData). if ( myObject == null ) return NotFound(controller); if ( myObject.IsNotAllowed(controller.User)) return NotAllowed(controller); return onSuccess(myObject); } # NotAllowed() is pretty much the same as this public static NotFound(Controller controller){ controller.HttpContext.Response.StatusCode = 404 # NotFound.aspx is a shared view. ViewResult result = controller.View("NotFound"); return result; } The problem here is that Controller.View() is a protected method and so is not accessible from a helper. I've looked at creating a new ViewResult instance explicitly, but there's enough properties to set that I'm wary about doing so without knowing the pitfalls first. What's the best way to create a ViewResult from outside a particular Controller?

• Sharepoint GetListItems using rowLimit parameter is not limiting the results returned

  In SharePoint I am using the default view of a list. When I use GetListItems method I can pass into it the following: public XmlNode GetListItems ( string listName, string viewName, XmlNode query, XmlNode viewFields, string rowLimit, XmlNode queryOptions, string webID ) I am passing in "" for the viewName and am passing a rowLimit of 1000. By Default view only returns 100 items. 100 Items are still being returned not 1000. Can you use the rowLimit when not specifying a view? Is it possible to bring back 1000 items using the query instead? I do not really want to use a GUID for the viewName as I would have to look it up for each list and perform a big refactor. Update I am now using the guid of the view and my list still returns the incorrect number of items. I know the guid is being used as I sued an incorrect one and it errord out. Any ideas what could be wrong? • Issue with dynamic array Queue data structure with void pointer

  Hi, Maybe there's no way to solve this the way I'd like it but I don't know everything so I better ask... I've implemented a simple Queue with a dynamic array so the user can initialize with whatever number of items it wants. I'm also trying to use a void pointer as to allow any data type, but that's the problem. When I call it, I lose the value because I free it right away. I can't seem to solve this dilemma. I want my library to be generic and modular. The user should not care about allocating and freeing memory, that's the library's job. How can the user still get the value from queuePop and let the library handle all memory allocs/frees?

• Help with stock ticker style scrolling using Core Animation

  Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on the best way to implement stock ticker style right-to-left scrolling of CALayers in Core Animation on OSX. I'm pretty new to Cocoa and don't know the best way to implement this. I have a continuous stream of news items and stock details that I turn into CALayers (made up of 1 image and a CATextLayer) and I want to animate the CALayers from right to left of my custom view. The news and stock information is constantly updating so I would like to add 1 item at a time to the view, scroll it right to left until the right-most point of the CALayer is showing, then add another CALayer to the view and start scrolling that as well. I would like to do this dynamic updating instead of taking a big snapshot of all my data, turning it into a big horizontal CALayer and scrolling that. I'm looking for guidance on how to achieve this sort of effect - do I manually animate each new CALayer along a path in the view? Or should I be using CAScrollLayer to achieve this effect? • RadComboBox Just Freezes

  I have two examples now, my first two, where a place a RadComboBox on a web form, and populate it, but it won't drop down. I first picked this up on a big web application project, and then on a simple little web site project, for investigating this. In my sample project, it is the only control on the page besides the ScriptManager, and there are rows in the data source, and it does display the first row, but it just doesn't drop down. Any ideas on this? BTW, this is theh first time I've restored this project onto a new XP machine, where I previously was working on a Vista machine that died.

  I get this cryptic error the first time (and only the first time) my view is loaded due to the following line of code: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [textField becomeFirstResponder]; } There is a noticeable (~3 – 4 second, even on the simulator) delay due to this that makes my app feel unresponsive. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't find any documentation on it on Apple's site, or any solutions here or on Google. Strangely, the opposite situation happens if I put the line in -viewDidAppear: instead of -viewWillAppear:; that is, instead of printing the error only the first time the keyboard is shown and never again, the error is not printed the first time but every time after. This is causing a major headache for me.

  I love my Delphi 4 but at the same time I see the need to talk to windows .net This is a recompiled dll that I found on sourceforge.net/projects/delphinet/ (DelphiNet03.zip) by some nice people that fund the dll from some were. The real answer is to make this dll so that fits into Delphi as true Delphi code, and not a dll clip on. So we can make objects that use dot net in Delphi. Because I’m not an assembly freak, I’m freaking out a little with a wee sweek for help! 1/ How do I link the asm code with the data info at the bottom of this code. Can some one show me which calls to look for to make this link to data. 2/ I need to find the beginning of all the procedures and functions, but I cannot find a ‘RET’ statement. • Scrolling issues with GridView in Android

  I am having weird scrolling issues in my pretty simple GridView. Each item in the Grid is simply and ImageView and a TextView. The activity itself is simply an application selector. It looks like a rough version of the basic App Tray in Android. The issue is that after spending some times scrolling through my view, it will inevitably allow me to continue scrolling past the top row of icons, to a blank screen, and the scroll bar will disappear, leaving me stuck. It doesn't happen every time I go to the top of the view, only sometimes, and usually only after some excessive scrolling. If I happen to notice the problem and catch it before the top row disappears off the bottom of the screen, I can usually scroll back through the view and spot some icons missing. There are empty spaces in the grid, and I can only assume that those icons have been moved to some bizarre position, which is allowing the view to scroll past the top. This is my first Android app beyond a basic Hello World, so it's likely that I've just screwed up something in my layout files. I also realize that this is probably a pretty confusing description, so I'm hoping someone has experienced this and my search abilities simply were unable to find it. I can post my layout files or other code if someone thinks that's useful. Oh, and the program is built against 1.5, but is running on 2.2 (whatever state of 2.2 that was that snuck out last week) on my phone. I don't have enough apps to test this on an emulator, but could probably set something up if someone felt it necessary. Thanks in advance for any help on the issue.

• ASP MVC2 model binding issue on POST

  So I'm looking at moving from MVC 1.0 to MVC 2.0 RTM. One of the conventions I'd like to start following is using the strongly-typed HTML helpers for generating controls like text boxes. However, it looks like it won't be an easy jump. I tried migrating my first form, replacing lines like this: <%= Html.TextBox("FirstName", Model.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> ...for lines like this: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> Previously, this would map into its appropriate view model on a POST, using the following method signature: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Registration(AccountViewInfo viewInfo) Instead, it currently gets an empty object back. I believe the disconnect is in the fact that we pass the view model into a larger aggregate object that has some page metadata and other fun stuff along with it (hence x.Data.FirstName instead of x.FirstName). So my question is: what is the best way to use the strongly-typed helpers while still allowing the MVC framework to appropriately cast the form collection to my view-model as it does in the original line? Is there any way to do it without changing the aggregate type we pass to the view? Thanks!

• Session State with MVP and Application Controller patterns

  Hi, I've created an MVP (passive view) framework for development and decided to go for an Application Controller pattern to manage the navigation between views. This is targeted at WinForms, ASP.NET and WPF interfaces. Although I'm not 100% convinced that these view technologies really swappable, that's my aim at the moment so my MVP framework is quite lightweight. What I'm struggling to fit in is the concept of a "Business Conversation" that needs state information to be either (a) maintained for the lifetime of the View or, more likely, (b) maintained across several views for the lifetime of a use case (business conversation). I want state management to be part of the framework as I don't want developers to worry about it. All they need to do is to "start" a conversation, "Register" objects and the framework does the rest until the "end" a conversation. Has anybody got any thoughts (patterns) to how to fit this into MVP? I was thinking it may be part of the Application Controller responsibility (delegating to a Conversation Manager object) as it knows about current state in order to send the user to the next view.... but then I thought it may be up to the Presenter to start and end the conversation so then it comes down the presenters to manage conversations and the objects registered for the that conversation. Unfortunately that means presenters can't be used in different conversations... so that idea doesn't seem right. As you can see, I don't think there is an easy answer (and I've looked for a while). So anybody else got any thoughts?

  I'm trying to animate a view sliding into view and bouncing once it hits the side of the screen. A basic example of the slide I'm doing is as follows: // The view is added with a rect making it off screen. The problem is when more than one view is being animated, the bounce becomes jerky and, well, doesn't bounce anymore. Before I start reading up on how to do this in Core Animation, (I understand it's a little more difficult) I'd like to know if there is actually an advantage using Core Animation rather than UIView animations. If not, is there something I can do to improve performance?

• Understanding asp.net mvc IView and IView.Render

  I'm trying to devise a method of doing VERY simple asp.net mvc plugins but mostly I'm trying to understand how view rendering works. I've distilled my problem down to this public class CustomView : IView { public void Render(ViewContext viewContext, TextWriter writer) { writer.Write( /* string to render */); } } Now, within that write method I can render any string to the view but when I put a line of code in there wrapped with <% % it renders the code to the view literally rather than parsing it and executing it. I've tried adding things like <% @Page ... to the beginning of the string and it just renders that literally as well. Among many attempts I'm currently calling it this way within a controller action: ... CustomView customView = new CustomView(); ViewResult result = new ViewResult(); result.View = customView; result.ViewName = "Index.aspx"; result.MasterName = ""; return result; What am I missing or doing wrong that this won't work? The ViewResult seems to have the WebFormViewEngine in its ViewEngines collection. I just want to understand this and after stripping it down to what I think should be the minimum it doesn't behave as I think it should. I'm guessing some other part of the machinery is involved/missing but I can't figure out what.

• UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone does not hide blue separator line when selecting in UITableView

  Before describing the problem, let me first point out that this is a distinct issue from this question. The Problem This screenshot was taken with a break set at tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath:, and as you can see in the simulator (far right of the image), there's a single-pixel blue line at the bottom of the selected cell. This is not the design asked for by the client, nor is it how this app used to behave: there should be no separator, even on selection. How I Got Here I'd initially designed this table view using custom UITableViewCell classes with corresponding nib (.xib) files and had no trouble with selections: the separator was hidden as desired. Predictably, scrolling was sluggish due to all the overhead from the view hierarchy, so I reworked the custom cells to use Loren Brichter's fast scrolling solution. Now scrolling is much faster, but I can't get rid of the separator for the life of me. What I've tried At the time of the screenshot above... the table view has "Separator [None]" in IB. the UIViewController that contains the table view has this line in viewDid Load: self.tableView.separatorStyle = UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone; As you can see in the screenshot, I inserted some unused lines to prove that separatorStyle is set as desired. Other testing confirms that tableView and self.tableView are equivalent pointers at that same breakpoint. I've also tried setting tableView.separatorColor to black and to clear, all with the same result: the cells look right until a selection is made.

• Application with two UITabBarControls

  Hello, I want to create an app, whith the following structure: UITabBarController ..UINavigationController ....UITabBarController So, in other words, I want to load first UITabbarController as my main ViewController, that appears on application start, in its' first tab there's a UINavigationController with a table, which shows another UITabBarController by pressing on a table cell. I started Tab Based application, set first tab to UINavigationController, and its ViewController to my TableViewController. I also created second UITabBarController in Interface Builder. Created a separate class for this controller. Everything works fine at start - my first UITabBarController is shown perfectly, but when I'm trying to push my second UITabBarController, using my UINavigationController, it looks like nothing is loaded from a .xib file - there are just an empty TabBar and NavigationBar pushed. Seems, that something is wrong with an architecture, but I can't figure out the problem. Thanks in advance and I'm sorry for my poor English. • JSF: How to get the selected item from selectOneMenu if its rendering is dynamic?

  At my view I have two menus that I want to make dependent, namely, if first menu holds values "render second menu" and "don't render second menu", I want second menu to be rendered only if user selects "render second menu" option in the first menu. After second menu renders at the same page as the first one, user has to select current item from it, fill another fields and submit the form to store values in database. Both the lists of options are static, they are obtained from the database once and stay the same. My problem is I always get null as a value of the selected item from second menu. How to get a proper value? • How to call PopOver Controller from UITableViewCell.accessoryView?

  Hi, First I would like to say that I'm really new to ipad/ipod/iphone development, and to objective-c too. With that being said, I'm trying to develop a small application targeting the iPad, using Xcode and IB, basically, I have a table, for each UITableViewCell in the table, I added to the accessoryView a button that contains an image. Here is the code: UIImage *img = [UIImage imageNamed:@"myimage.png"]; UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, img.size.width, img.size.height); button.frame = frame; // match the button's size with the image size [button setBackgroundImage:img forState:UIControlStateNormal]; // set the button's target to this table view controller so we can interpret touch events and map that to a NSIndexSet [button addTarget:self action:@selector(checkButtonTapped:event:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; button.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; cell.accessoryView = button; So far, so good, now the problem is that I want a PopOver control to appear when a user taps the button on the accessoryView of a cell. Also, as you can see, I'm telling it to use the "cell.accessoryView" for the "inView:" attribute, is that okay?

• Asp.net MVC Calling ActionLink in Codebehind

  I am new to asp.net and MVC, so please go easy on me. :) I have successfully made a small MVC application. There is a database that contains a table named "Entry" and I have made Controllers for this. Also I have a view for Details and list. This works fin. My problem is in my index page. (not the view Index, but the frontpage). There I dynamically build a TreeView as a menu, with some Categories. In this menu there is under the categories there is my Entries from the database. They show up fin. I insert the entries as a TreeNode what holds the entry id and so forth. What I want is: that the entries in my treeview work as a link to the Detail view of the Entry. So if I click on a entry in the TreeView it will show the Detail page of this Entry. But I can't make it work. How to I use the <%= Html.ActionLink() % in codebehind? Or is it this the wrong way? If calling the view or controller in codebehind is the wrong way to do it. Then how? Thanks in advance.
