• How do Go web apps function from a server perspective?

  Hey Everyone, I followed the directions on how to create web applications using Go, and I was able to get an application working great. One thing I am confused about though is, when you run the application (./8.out), the terminal will sit there and listen on port 8080 until somebody accesses a page. Does the terminal need to stay up all of the time to run the web application? Does the application act like apache? Does apache need to be run next to this app? Setting this up on a server environment seems very confusing to me right now because I dont understand what the best way to do this is. Thanks for any help on this, Metropolis

• problem with struts actions and redirections

  I am trying to update a simple web app that was built with struts2, jsp and standard servlets. I am trying to redirect a url to a specific action but can't seem to get it to work right.   Hi, I need to configure two name-based virtual hosts in my ubuntu pc. If I type the address "http://mypage1" in browser, it should display my first customized html page and if I type the address "http://mypage2", it should display my second customized html page. I tried out the following: 1. installed apache 2. created a file mypage1 inside sites-available with the contents as follows: VirtualHost *:80 ServerName mypage1 ServerAlias http://mypage1 DocumentRoot /var/www/mypage1/html /VirtualHost 3. created a similar file mypage2 inside sites-available 4. ran the commands "a2ensite mypage1" and "a2ensite mypage2" to generate soft links inside sites-enabled. 5. restarted apache using "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart" After doing the above steps, when I type mypage1 in firefox, I get dns_unresolved_hostname error. Kindly help me how to resolve this problem.

• nginx + ssi + remote uri access does not work

  I have a setup where my nginx is in front with apache+PHP behind. My PHP application cache some page in memcache which are accessed by nginx directly except some dynamic part which are build using SSI in Nginx. The first problem I had was nginx didnt try to use memcache for ssi URI. <!--# include virtual="/myuser" --> So I figured that if I force it to use a full URL, it would do it. <!--# include virtual="http://www.example.com/myuser" --> But in logs file (both nginx and apache) I can see that a slash has been added at the beginning of the url http ssi filter "/http://www.example.com/myuser" In the source code of the SSI module I see a PREFIX that seems to be added, but I can really tell if I can disable it. Anybody got this issue? Nginx version : 0.7.62 on Ubuntu Karmic 64bits Thanks a lot

• Php/Javascript to make a browser game?

  I've been on and off intrested in making a text based browser game. I have been turned off by the idea because of the daunting amount of things to learn. PHP (or another sever side scripting language) Javascript HTML MySql And the fact of severs and apache.. Can I just pay for web hosting and by-pass having to set-up apache? Also how long will it take me to learn all thoose things well enough to start work on my game? Should I just stick with Flash and then C# for XNA?

• What is good practice for writing web applications that control daemons (and their config files)

  Can someone suggest some basic advice on dealing with web applications that interact with configuration files like httpd.conf, bind zone files, etc. I understand that it's bad practice, in fact very dangerous to allow arbitrary execution of code without fully validating it and so on. But say you are tasked to write a small app that allows one to add vhosts to an apache configuration. Do you have your code execute with full privileges, do you write future variables into a database and have a cron job (with full privileges) execute a script that pulls the vars from the database and throws them into a template config file, etc. Some thoughts & contributions on this issue would be appreciated. tl;dr - how can you securely write a web app to update/create entries in a config file like apache's httpd.conf, etc.

  I have created some JavaScript files and they run well from my Mac OS X Server. Now I have put the same JavaScript files on my MS Server 2003. But they don't work. Do I have to install something on the server in order to get them work? EDIT: (Sorry, I'm new and English is not my native language, so its hard for me to describe the situation well) I have downloaded this free Ajax Chat app. After enabling PHP on my Mac, it worked. But on my MS Windows 2003 Server it doesn't work. I installed PHP and Apache on Windows. PHP and Apache work well. But everything that uses JavaScript (such as drop down menus or pop-up windows) doesn't work. Thanks!

  I have installed WAMP. I am using Tomcat 6 to run my PHP scripts. I am also using JavaBridge.war and I have copied my php scripts into \webapp\JavaBridge\project. I have removed the semicolon from php.ini file before the statements extension=php_mysqli.dll extension=php_mysql.dll I have added C:\wamp\bin into my PATH env variable. I have copied all dll's from C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.0\ext into C:\windows\system32 I am still getting this error. Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysqli_connect() in C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\project\pf_query.php on line 534 Note - I dont get this error when I run my PHP script from Apache 2.2.11 of the WAMP package.

  Hi, I'm new to PHP frameworks, and currently I'm trying Zend Framework (ZF). I'm old fashioned when it comes to installing software, I like to install apache/mysql/php all separetely since I find easier and it gives me more control of it. It seems that the "encouraged" way to develop with Zend Framework is using the Zend (CE) Server. I personally don't like this idea of a app install everything else (PHP/Apache and so on). From what I've seen if I include Zend Framework Library in php.ini path I'm ready to go. So is there any real advantage to use the Full Zend (CE) Server??

• The case of the mysterious MySQL caching across restarts

  I found a very slow MySQL query in my web app. The weird thing is that the query is only slow the first time it's executed, despite the fact that the query_cache is set to its default (query_cache_size 0) like so: mysql> show variables like 'query%'; +------------------------------+---------+ | Variable_name | Value | +------------------------------+---------+ | query_alloc_block_size | 8192 | | query_cache_limit | 1048576 | | query_cache_min_res_unit | 4096 | | query_cache_size | 0 | | query_cache_type | ON | | query_cache_wlock_invalidate | OFF | | query_prealloc_size | 8192 | +------------------------------+---------+ The even weirder thing is that this speedup persists even after the MySQL server has been stopped and restarted (I'm using OSX, and perform this restart using the system preferences pane.) The only way I can re-create the poor performance of the initial query is by rebooting the system. So my question is: how is this happening? Obviously some sort of caching at work, but where? And how does it persist across database restarts? This query is mediated through our web app, which comes via PHP/Apache, but there are no extra bells and whistles, and the curious caching also persists across Apache restarts. Help?

• Permission denied after image upload

  I've got a image upload script that works on my Apache on IIS development server, but on the Apache Lunix live server, although the images are uploaded correctly and the MySQL database is updated correctly, I can't view the images. Viewing the HTML source, checking both the FTP files and the database values, all look OK. But the image doesn't show, just the white box with the red cross in the corner. If I try to copy the shortcut of the image and open it in a seperate window, I get the following: I'm not sure what to try next, it seems strange that the files/database/source look good but it just won't show! I've tried both $HTTP_POST_FILES and $_FILES to upload the images, but both have the same result. If anyone has any ideas, please help!

• Additional options in MDL

      The Metadata Loader(MDL) enables you to populate a new repository as well as transfer, update, or restore a backup of existing repository metadata. It consists of two utilities: metadata export and metadata import. The export utility extracts metadata objects from a repository and writes the information into a file. The import utility reads the metadata information from an exported file and inserts the metadata objects into a repository.      While the Design Client provides an intuitive UI that helps you perform the most commonly used export and import tasks, OMBPlus scripting enables you to specify some additional options, and manage a control file that allows you to perform more specialized export and import tasks. Is it possible to utilize these options in MDL from Design Client? This article will tell you how to achieve it.      A property file named mdl.properties is used to configure the additional options. It stores options in name/value pairs. This file can be created and placed under the directory <owb installation path>/owb/bin/admin/. Below we will introduce the options that can be specified in the mdl.properties file. 1. DEFAULTDIRECTORY     When we open a Metadata Export/Import dialog in Design Client, a default directory is provided for MDL file and log file. For MDL Export, the default directory is <owb installation path>/owb/bin/. As for MDL Import, the default directory is <owb installation path>/owb/mdl/. It may not be the one you would want to use as a default. You can specify the option DEFAULTDIRECTORY in the mdl.properties file to set your own default directory for MDL Export/Import, for example, DEFAULTDIRECOTRY=/tmp/     In this example, the default directory is set to /tmp/. Be sure the value ends with a file separator since it represents a directory. In Windows, the file separator is “\”. In linux, the file separator is “/”. 2. MDLTRACEFILE     Sometimes we would like to trace the whole process of MDL Export/Import, and get detailed information about operations to help developers or supports troubleshooting. To turn on MDL trace, set the option MDLTRACEFILE in the mdl.properties file. MDLTRACEFILE=/tmp/mdl.trc    The right side of the equals sign is to specify the name of the file for MDL trace information to be written. If no path is specified, the file will be placed under directory <owb installation path>/owb/bin/admin/. However, the trace file may be large if the MDL file contains a large number of metadata objects, so please use this option sparingly. 3. CONTROLFILE       We can use a control file to specify how objects are imported or exported. We can set an option called CONTROLFILE in the mdl.properties file, so the control file can also be utilized in Design Client, for example, CONTROLFILE=/tmp/mdl_control_file.ctl     The control file stores options in name/value pairs. When using control file, be sure the file exists, otherwise an exception java.lang.Exception: CNV0002-0031(ERROR): Cannot find specified file will be thrown out during MDL Export/Import.      Next we will introduce some options specified in control file. ZIPFILEFORMAT     By default, MDL exports objects into a zip format file. This zip file has an .mdl extension and contains two files. For example, you export the repository metadata into a file called projects.mdl. When you unzip this MDL file, you obtain two files. The file projects.mdx contains the repository objects. The file mdlcatalog.xml contains internal information about the MDL XML file. Another choice is to combine these two files into one unzip text format file when doing MDL exporting.    In OMBPlus command related to MDL, there is an option called FILE_FORMAT which is used to specify the file format for the exported file. Its acceptable values are ZIP or TEXT. When the value TEXT is selected, the exported file is in text format, for example, OMBEXPORT MDL_FILE '/tmp/options_file_format_test.mdl' FILE_FORMAT TEXT FROM PROJECT 'MY_PROJECT'    How to achieve this via Design Client when doing an MDL exporting? Here we have another option called ZIPFILEFORMAT which has the same function as the FILE_FORMAT. The difference is the acceptable values for ZIPFILEFORMAT are Y or N. When the value is set to N, the exported file is in text format, otherwise it is in zip file format. LOGMESSAGELEVEL     Whenever you export or import repository metadata, MDL writes diagnostic and statistical information to a log file. Their are 3 types of status messages: Informational, Warning and Error. By default, the log file includes all types of message. Sometimes, user may only care about one type of messages, for example, they would like only error messages written to the log file. In order to achieve this, we can set an option called LOGMESSAGELEVEL in control file. The acceptable values for LOGMESSAGELEVEL are ALL, WARNING and ERROR. ALL: If the option LOGMESSAGELEVEL is set to ALL, all types of messages (Informational, Warning and Error) will be written into the log file. WARNING: If the option LOGMESSAGELEVEL is set to WARNING, only warning messages will be written into log file. ERROR: If the option LOGMESSAGELEVEL is set to ERROR, only error messages will be written into log file. UPDATEPROJECTATTRIBUTES, UPDATEMODULEATTRIBUTES      These two options are used to decide whether updating the attributes of projects/modules. The options work when projects/modules being imported already exist in repository and we use update metadata mode or replace metadata mode to do the MDL import. The acceptable values for these two options are Y or N. If the value is set to Y, the attributes of projects/modules will be updated, otherwise not.      Next, let’s give an example to see how these options take effect in MDL. 1. First of all, create the property file mdl.properties under the directory <owb installation path>/owb/bin/admin/. 2. Specify the options in the mdl.properties file, see the following screenshot. 3. Create the control file mdl_control_file.ctl under the directory /tmp/. Set the following options in control file. 4. Log into the OWB Design Client. 5. Create an Oracle module named ORA_MOD_1 under the project MY_PROJECT, then export the project MY_PROJECT into file my_project.mdl. 6. Check the trace file mdl.trc under the directory /tmp/. In this file, we can see very detail information for the above export task. 7. Check the exported MDL file. The file my_project.mdl is in text format. Opening the file, you can see the content of the file directly. It concats the file my_project.mdx and mdlcatalog.xml. 8. Modify the project MY_PROJECT and Oracle module ORA_MOD_1, add descriptions for them separately. Delete the location created in step 5. 9. Import the MDL file my_project.mdl. From the Metadata Import dialog, we can see the default directory for MDL file and log file has been changed to /tmp/. Here we use update metadata mode, match by names to do the importing. 10. After importing, check the description of the project MY_PROJECT, we can see the description is still there. But the description of the Oracle module ORA_MOD_1 has gone. That because we set the option UPDATEPROJECTATTRIBUTES to N, and set the option UPDATEMODULEATTRIBUTES to Y. 11.   I got cheap Ebay wifi dongle from HongKong, Im trying to set it up on my ubuntu server. Occasionally need to move server, so it cannot always be connected to router via lan. Anyhow, usb wifi came with a driver cd.   I am trying to install magento locally using nginx as the web server instead of Apache. I copied the magento folder to the html directory. When i try to call the magento folder, I get the 404 not found error. I am able to access other php files setup in the html folder and have PHP installed.
