    A new article, by noted freelancer Steve Meloan, now up on otn/java, titled “JavaOne 2012 Conference Preview,” looks ahead to the fast approaching JavaOne 2012 Conference, scheduled for September 30-October 4 in San Francisco. The Conference will celebrate and highlight one of the world’s leading technologies. As Meloan states, “With 9 million Java developers worldwide, 5 billion Java cards in use, 3 billion mobile phones running Java, 1 billion Java downloads each year, and 100 percent of Blu-ray disk players and 97 percent of enterprise desktops running Java, Java is a technology that literally permeates our world.” The 2012 JavaOne is organized under seven technical tracks: * Core Java Platform* Development Tools and Techniques* Emerging Languages on the JVM* Enterprise Service Architectures and the Cloud* Java EE Web Profile and Platform Technologies* Java ME, Java Card, Embedded, and Devices* JavaFX and Rich User Experiences Conference keynotes will lay out the Java roadmap. For the Sunday keynote, such Oracle luminaries as Cameron Purdy, Vice President of Development; Nandini Ramani, Vice President of Engineering, Java Client and Mobile Platforms; Richard Bair, Chief Architect, Client Java Platform; and Mark Reinhold, Chief Architect, Java Platform will be presenting.     Want to drag and drop Java code snippets into the palette, in the same way as can be done for HTML files? If so, create a new module and add a class with the content below and you're done. You'll be able to select a piece of Java code, drag it into the palette (Ctrl-Shift-8 to open it), where you'll be able to set a name, tooltip, and icons for the snippet, and then you'll be able to drag it out of the palette into any Java files you like.     Back in Q2 of FY12, a division of ITT invited Oracle to demo our CRM On Demand product while the group was considering Salesforce.com. Chris Porter, our Oracle Direct sales representative learned the players and their needs and began to develop relationships. We lost that deal, but not Chris's persistence. A few months passed and Chris called on the ITT Shape Cutting Division's Director of Sales to see how things were going. Chris was told that the plan was for the division to buy more Salesforce.com. In fact, he informed Chris that he had just sent his team to Salesforce.com training. During the conversation, Chris mentioned that our new Oracle Sales Cloud Service could run with Outlook. This caused the ITT Sales Director to reconsider the plan to move forward with our competition. Oracle was invited back to demo the Oracle Sales and Marketing Cloud Service (Fusion CRM) and after it concluded, the Director stated, "That just blew your competition away."     How to start, shutdown and restart tomcat as non-root user. I have tomcat5.x installed on ubuntu machine(usr/share/tomcat). The tomcat directory has full permissions.     You probably recall the addition of TomEE and WebSphere CE at JavaOne 2011 to the list of certified Java EE 6 products. This time, Apache Geronimo 3 beta 1 was released with compatibility with the Java EE 6 full platform and is now listed on the Java EE Compatibility Page in both the Web Profile and Full Platform categories. Not surprisingly, a good number of the components used in this Geronimo release are similar to those used in the TomEE certification. We now have 11 compatible Java EE 6 configurations to chose from and expecting more soon.

It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features.     Java Runtime Environment 7u10 (a.k.a. JRE 1.7.0_10 build 18) and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 Windows-based desktop clients. What do you need to do and where are the official patch requirements?
