• How do I make PyScript work? Says it cant find python26.dll

  I installed PyScript to try it out but it just wont start. It only gives me the error: "Error126: Could not open Dll "python26.dll" followed by: "Python could not be properly initialized. We must quit." I think this may have something to do with the PYTHONPATH but since I'm a newbie and dont know what it is or exactly what to put in the PYTHONPATH, after some googling, I ask here. Also, when I tried to install wxPython it was impossible becouse the PYTHONPATH could not be found. I have installed ActivePython 2.6 and the PATH is set so I can access python in cmd.

• Communicate multiple times with a process without breaking the pipe?

  Hello, it's not the first time I'm having this problem and its really bugging me. Whenever I open a pipe using the Python subprocess module, I can only communicate with it once, as the documentation specifies: Read data from stdout and stderr, until end-of-file is reached proc = sub.Popen("psql -h darwin -d main_db".split(),stdin=sub.PIPE,stdout=sub.PIPE) print proc.communicate("select a,b,result from experiment_1412;\n")[0] print proc.communicate("select theta,zeta,result from experiment_2099\n")[0] The problem here is that the second time, Python isn't happy. • Getting a JFrame's actual current location

  Hello community, I am trying to create a (child) JFrame which slides out from underneath one side of a second (parent) JFrame. The goal is to then have the child follow the parent around when it is moved, and respond to resizing events. This is somewhat related to this question. I have tried using a ComponentListener, but with this method the child only moves once the parent has come to a stop, whereas I would like the child to move as the parent is dragged around the screen. Another option I attempted was to start a new refresher thread that continually updated the child's location using getLocation() or getLocationOnScreen(), but the lag was the same as with ComponentListener. Is there a way to get the true actual location of a JFrame even in the midst of a drag? or if not, is there a way to get the effect of a sheet sliding out from underneath and following the Frame around?

• Why does GC not clear the Dialog references?

  Is there way to use more than 1 layout manager in Java. Right now I'm using a gridLayout to implement a chess board but beneath it I would like to put some other stuff but not in a gridLayout. Maybe a FlowLayout or some other layout. How would I go about doing this? Thanks!

  I am using QT 4.3. I have created one custom widget plugin. I could be able to show it in the desiner tool box as well as use it on the form with no problem. This custom widget internally holds QGroupBox, QLabel, QTextEdit. Now I want to apply the styles to individual componets of this custom widget. I want to expose these internal conrols as sub-control and style them. This would be similar to tear subcontrol of QTabWidget. In style sheet we can refer it as QTabWidget::tear... Is there any way by which I can do similar thing with my custom widget?

It seems that the R warning message raises a python error. # enable use of python objects in rpy2 import rpy2.robjects.numpy2ri import numpy as np from rpy2.robjects import r # create an example array a = np.array([[5,2,5],[3,7,8]]) # this line leads to a warning message, which in turn raises an # error message if run within a script. result = r['chisq.test'](a) Running that code example in ipython works, however, running it inside a script raises the errorTypeError: 'module' object is unsubscriptable.   Is there a way to import a Python module stored in a cStringIO data structure vs. physical disk file? It looks like "imp.load_compiled(name, pathname[, file])" is what I need, but the description of this method (and similar methods) has the following disclaimer: Quote: "The file argument is the byte-compiled code file, open for reading in binary mode, from the beginning. It must currently be a real file object, not a user-defined class emulating a file." [1] I tried using a cStringIO object vs. a real file object, but the help documentation is correct - only a real file object can be used. Any ideas on why these modules would impose such a restriction or is this just an historical artifact? Are there any techniques I can use to avoid this physical file requirement?   I use outputPanel.setLayout(new BoxLayout(outputPanel, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); and then I add elements (for example JLabels, JButtons) to the outputPanel. For example: outputPanel.add(submitButton);. I see that all added elements are "centered". It is good, because I do want my elements to be in the center. When I write "center" I mean "equal distance from left and right". But the problem is that the left part of the element is put into the center. And I want to have center of elements to be put into the center. How can I get this behavior?

• When to use ellipsis after menu items

  In pretty much all applications that have a menu bar, some of the items have an ellipsis (...) after them, and some don't. Is there a well known convention on when to put that ellipsis there and when not to? When do you do it? Do you do it? I have looked at various windows applications, and this is what I have come to: Ellipsis Menu items which opens a form that require user input to do something (Replace, Go to, Font) No ellipsis Menu items which just does something (Cut, Paste, Exit, Save) Menu items which opens a form that does not require user input (About, Check for Updates) But then there always seems to be menu items that doesn't follow this rule. For example the Help items (How do I, Search, Index) and the Find and Replace (Quick Find, Find in Files, Find Symbol) in Visual Studio. So after thinking about it a bit more I know think this might be the thing: Ellipsis Menu items that will definitely open a modal window. No Ellipsis Menu items that opens a non-modal window. Menu items that doesn't open any window. Menu items that most likely won't open a modal window (Like Save, which does open a modal window if you haven't saved before or something like that, but otherwise don't) What do you guys think?

The preferences program ?should? write to a Property file(not a problem at all) and to send a "update signal" to the main program - which mean, to call the update method(that i wrote) that found in the Main class. There is the Q_OBJECT macros, no warning such as about no x slot. In addition to this, receivers(SIGNAL(snippetAdded())) gives me 1 but receivers(SIGNAL(variableAdded())) gives me 0 and i used commands qmake -project; qmake and make to fully compile. What am i missing?

• wxPython TreeCtrl without showing root while still showing arrows

  I am making a python tree visualizer using wxPython. It would be used like so: show_tree([ 'A node with no children', ('A node with children', 'A child node', ('A child node with children', 'Another child')) ]) It worked fine but it shows a root with a value of "Tree". I made it so that it would create multiple roots but then learned that I wasn't allowed to do that. I reverted to the original code but used changed it from this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self) to this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self, style=wx.TR_HIDE_ROOT). It worked but it didn't show the little arrows on the side so you wouldn't know which nodes had children. Is there any way to hide the root node but keep the arrows. Note: I am on a Mac using Python version 2.5 and wxPython version 2.8.4.0.

  Hello, I have seen many times on Java Swing GUIs buttons that look like images until the mouse rolls over them. They appear to not have their content area filled. When the mouse rolls over them, the content area fills in but the button looks as though the mouse is not hovering over it. An example of this would be the toolbar of buttons used to activate each demo in SwingSet2. How is this effect possible? Thanks!
