  • Using AMQP to collect events

    Does AMQP has any advantages over an ad-hoc implementation for a simple stats gathering scenario? It works like this - clients send events (more than we care to put into persistent storage) to (several) web workers, the workers aggrregate them and write to a single database. I don't think I should consider using AMQP for this because I'll still need web workers to receive events from clients through HTTP and to publish them. Am I missing something?

  • SQLite Query to Insert a record If not exists

    I want to insert a record into a sqlite table if its actually not inserted. Let's say it has three fields pk, name, address I want to INSERT new record with name if that name not added preveously. Can we do with this in a single Query.     My custom callback class implements AsyncCallback (like MyAsyncCallback implements AsyncCallback) and planning use single instance of MyAsyncCallback for multiple rpc method executions. Is this approach safe?. Or should have to create new instance of MyAsyncCallback for every interaction from browser to server?. I am kind of tired of seeing so many anonymous AsyncCallback code blocks. Thanks for your input

  • Why do we have reinterpret_cast in C++ when two chained static_cast can do it's job?

    Say I want to cast A* to char* and vice-versa, we have two choices (I mean, many of us think we've two choices, because both seems to work! Hence the confusion!): struct A { int age; char name[128]; }; A a; char *buffer = static_cast<char*>(static_cast<void*>(&a)); //choice 1 char *buffer = reinterpret_cast<char*>(&a); //choice 2 Both work fine. //convert back A *pA = static_cast<A*>(static_cast<void*>(buffer)); //choice 1 A *pA = reinterpret_cast<A*>(buffer); //choice 2 Even this works fine! So why do we have reinterpret_cast in C++ when two chained static_cast can do it's job? Some of you might think this topic is a duplicate of the previous topics such as listed at the bottom of this post, but it's not. Those topics discuss only theoretically, but none of them gives even a single example demonstrating why reintepret_cast is really needed, and two static_cast would surely fail. I agree, one static_cast would fail. But how about two? If the syntax of two chained static_cast looks cumbersome, then we can write a function template to make it more programmer-friendly: template<class To, class From> To any_cast(From v) { return static_cast<To>(static_cast<void*>(v)); } And then we can use this, as: char *buffer = any_cast<char*>(&a); //choice 1 char *buffer = reinterpret_cast<char*>(&a); //choice 2 //convert back A *pA = any_cast<A*>(buffer); //choice 1 A *pA = reinterpret_cast<A*>(buffer); //choice 2 Also, see this situation where any_cast can be useful: Proper casting for fstream read and write member functions. So my question basically is, Why do we have reinterpret_cast in C++? Please show me even a single example where two chained static_cast would surely fail to do the same job?   • Where does abort() and terminate() "live"?

    Regarding the terminate handler, As i understand it, when something bad happens in code, for example when we dont catch an exception, terminate() is called, which in turn calls abort() set_terminate(my_function) allows us to get terminate() to call a user specified function my_terminate. my question is: where do these functions "live" they don't seem to be a part of the language, but work as if they are present in every single cpp file, without having to include any header file.

  • Perl daemon script for message queue hanging for 20 seconds after each process. Why?

    I have daemon script written in Perl that checks a database tables for rows, pulls them in one by one, sends the contents via HTTP post to another service, then logs the result and repeats (only a single child). When there are rows present, the first one is posted and logged immediately, but every subsequent one is delayed for around 20 seconds. There are no sleep()'s running, and I can't find any other obvious delays. Any ideas?

These methods allow a user to vote a post up or down; kinda like the vote up/down functionality for StackOverflow questions. Is there any way to implement the second It within the same spec? Note that the It should_not_let_the_user_vote_more_than_once; requires me the spec to call controller.VoteDown(1) twice. I know the easiest would be to create a separate spec for it too, but it'd be copying and pasting the same code yet again... I'm still getting the hang of BDD (and MSpec) and many times it is not clear which way I should go, or what the best practices or guidelines for BDD are. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is that I have to show size attribute of configurable product on category grid and list view. Every solution on google suggested something like $_product->getAttributeText('size') but I ended up at just a single string - "S" or "M" instead of an array. How can I fetch all possible sizes of all simple products which belongs to particular configurable product without much hassle?
